First Choice Home Inspection

I hired Tyler to perform an inspection on a town home that I am purchasing. In the first 15 minutes, Tyler explained the furnace and water heater to me and provided an estimate of when I needed to replace them. I followed Tyler to the electrical panel and he answered a personal phone call that he was on for about ten minutes. I wanted to ask about the panel, while he was checking it, but could not because I did not want to interrupt his phone call. At that point, we went upstairs in the bathroom, and Tyler took a business call and explained his rates and was looking at his calendar on his phone for his dates of availability in order to schedule an appointment. I found this to be extremely unprofessional as I was paying him for his time while he was conducting other business. At that point, I asked him if he could please take the call after my appt. At that point, he was not very helpful and stopped explaining things to me. He did send a report after the inspection with pictures, but it would have been helpful if he would have pointed out where the problem areas in the house were when I was there, rather than just providing the pictures.

I recent put an offer in for a condo and needed to get a home inspection done quickly. I sent an email late in the evening on Friday and got a call from Tyler before lunchtime on Saturday. On the phone and throughout the entire process he was professional and reliable. On the scheduled day, he arrived a few minutes early and actually got there before my real estate agent. I was impressed that he checked each and every outlet. He checked the radiant ceiling heaters and even discovered that one was not working. He made sure all of the sinks and tubs drained and that the water heater could get the water hot again reasonably quickly after all of the hot water got used up. He answered all of my numerous questions and even helped me figure out that my building has concrete floors (I thought they were wood and was going to change the location of two bathroom drains. I may still move the drains, but I now know to budget extra $$$$ for concrete work). I really liked the inspection document he provided. It was useful to quote from the inspection report as I filled out the real estate inspection response. I am certainly hoping this deal goes through, but I would not hesitate to use Tyler again if I have to continue to look for properties.

We were interested in having our current home inspected because we suspected termite problems and were not confident in the quality of the inspection performed during the buying process in 2009. We needed a "peace of mind" inspection. Tyler was awesome! Quick response to my initial contact, easy to speak to on the phone and was able to make an appointment the same week. He arrived on time and was very attentive to my concerns and questions. He did a thorough inspection and found issues that probably should have been mentioned on our original inspection that were not. I am so glad we called as he found a major leak that we would not have known about otherwise. He was friendly, patient and took extra time to explain to me probable causes of his findings and our best course of action. I would highly recommend First Choice Home Inspection to anyone who is buying a home or has concerns about their current home. Tyler did a detailed inspection and report and was honest in his pricing. He had the opportunity to recommend mold testing for an additional charge but advised that it was probably not in our best interest to do so at this time.

Tyler is punctual, honest, and very professional. Both home purchases failed due to extensive flaws that was found by him. He is very thorough and detailed with his reports. His reports are not only in written form but also in picture form with problems circled for clarity. I made an offer on a home that was a total remodel on the outside and inside. It was beautiful and it even had a new roof. He was so thorough that he inspected the new roof. He found many areas had rotted and that it was covered with new tiles. It was a home that had cosmetic surgery but that the bones or structure was never fixed. I will not buy a house without his inspection.

Seems like whenever I consume anything these days, whether it's a professional service or a cheeseburger, I find myself wondering if anybody behind the counter is listening or thinking. Competence and pride in workmanship is a d***ned endangered species today. This is why Tyler's inspection, and the resulting report, are such a delight to me, despite the fact that the inspection findings themselves were disheartening. I have seen only three home inspection reports in my life, but Tyler's was far and away the most thorough, useful, and comprehensible report I could have imagined. The report sorted and color-coded failures by urgency and hazard potential; it included clear photographs of findings with red arrows pointing to trouble spots; it was delivered to me by e-mail less than 12 hours after he completed the inspection; and it was well-written, easy to understand, and typo-free. Ultimately, Tyler's thorough report influenced me to reject this house and continue looking. Though that's a bummer, I have to thank him. His $450 report saved me tens of thousands in repairs on a house that looked like a peach from the exterior, but was actually a lemon. Tyler also showed up to the inspection on time, was professional, thoroughly knowledgeable, well-prepared, and friendly throughout his time on site. I will definitely schedule him when I find another house that I'm considering.

Very well organized and competent from beginning to end

Tyler was great,thorough and professional. When he was done spent alot of time explaining the findings and helping with prioritizing the necessary repairs. After I got a plumbing estimate I emailed him with questions about the products they recommended. Tyler replied promptly with great advice.

Overall the experience was great! Tyler was able to schedule a quick inspection and I received the inspection report that same evening. The report was clear including photographs to illustrate various potential issues in the condominium and even rated where they ranked in terms of concerns. Tyler was personable, helpful and even helped us to open a jammed door which was much appreciated. I would definitely use him again.

My first contact with Tyler was outside of an actual home inspection. I needed some advice on a roof installation of a home my wife and I were considering making an offer for. He called me back within 2 hours of sending him a message via Angie's List and answered all my questions (free of charge!). It was great advice enabling us to make an educated decision on making an offer for this particular home or not. Eventually we made an offer for a different home and chose Tyler for doing the home inspection. Scheduling was very easy with him plus he was able to accommodate our preferred date. I had a couple of questions before the actual home inspection and Tyler answered them all in great detail. At the day of the inspection Tyler arrived at little bit early and instantly starting working on inspecting the exterior of the home. He is very focused while working, records voice memos and snaps pictures as he finds issues. Whenever he found a bigger issue he explained it to me right away while we both looked at it and then continued with the inspection. Overall it took him about 2.5 hours to inspect a ~1,600 SF house. At the end of the inspection he ran me and my agent through the bigger issues he found and answered all questions we had in great detail. I forgot to bring my check book, but wanted to pay Tyler right away for his services. So we both drove off after the inspection to meet up at an ATM machine close by. While I was at the ATM machine he actually got me a coffee! What more can you ask for from your home inspector? The inspection report (PDF document) was sent to me via email about 3 hours after the inspection. His reports are not the typical pre-canned check lists with minimal comments. Instead his inspection report was full of comments on issues he found accompanied by pictures showing the defect as well as suggestions on what to do. He also puts the issues he found into different categories so that you know what needs to be addressed right away and what can be done in the future. It's a document that has a lot of value not just for making the final call on the home purchase, but also down the road as far as maintenance and improvements are concerned.

Tyler was great. We would certaintly recommend him in the future to anyone who needs a home inspection. He was available to answer questions when we didn't understand some of the problems he found. He made it all very clear. We were very happy with his service.

He didn't find any problems and he told me the house was in pretty good condition. The report was pretty positive, and a couple weeks later the faucet broke in the kitchen. Everything else was positive with him and he showed up on time though.

Tyler did a very professional job and provided us with a very professional easy to read report. He was very responsive. The only feedback I have is that I wished he had scheduled a little more time for a house of this size to give us a more detailed walk through. Other than that he was excellent.

I was late getting to the property for the appointment but Tyler was already inspecting the outside of the house and taking pictures. It was a very large house but he tested every appliance, outlet, and plumbing fixture. He tested every area that appeared to have moisture and got underneath the crawl spaces. He came with his own ladders and thoroughly examined the roof and the chimneys. The real estate agent I had with me commented that he was more thorough than most. I sincerely believe that the money I spent is going to save me tens of thousands of dollars. Well worth it.

Tyler was very professional, responded to emails within a few hours, and showed up on time for the inspection. Unfortunately for us, the property had been massively damaged by an incompetent plumber who had de-winterized it the day before our inspection and failed to notice a burst pipe when he turned the water back on. So we turned up on inspection day to find a house with major water damage. Tyler did the full inspection regardless, talking us through the work that would be required to remediate the (impending) mold problem. He had a full report out to us in < 24 hours and helped us make the right call - walk away from the deal. Highly recommended.

Tyler is very skilled, thorough, and professional. He examined every aspect of my potential buy in detail. He submitted an extremely detailed report well documented by many photos. Furthermore, he delivered his excellent report by 3:30 pm on the same day as the inspection, when the inspection itself was only completed at about 11:30 am. I very much appreciated that, because the seller had demanded an relatively short inspection period and time was of the essence. Tyler's attention to detail revealed many problems with the purchase that were not readily apparent, and he probably saved me tens of thousands of dollars as well as much heartache. Based on his thorough report, I exercised my contingency and backed out of the sale. I am still in the market, and based on his performance, I would not consider using any other inspector for my next attempt at purchasing. Tyler is the ultimate professional in his field.

I hired Tyler to act as an independent inspector to confirm that all was well (or to identify any problems) with the attic mold remediation done a few days ago on my townhouse. In particular, I wanted to know if there are any remaining roof or attic ventilation problems that could cause the mold to re-occur. He did a superb job, explained it all verbally, and also sent a detailed report with his findings and recommendations. He found roof moss and loose roof vent nails (not the responsibility of the mold remediation company, but important to be fixed anyway to avoid roof damage that could eventually cause more mold). In the attic, he noticed that the mold remediation company (who says they have a 25-year warranty) did not attach a warranty tag (apparently, this is the typical thing to do). He also discovered that the way the mold remediation company fixed the attic vent pipes is *not* according to the current standard and explained what the current standard is. He also pointed out that fixing attic vent pipes properly is not a big deal (so hopefully the mold remediation company will respond positively to the need to redo this fix appropriately). He also indicated (and included photos) that some stains remain that might still be mold. Finally, he pointed out that, due to the roof design, the attic does not allow for ventilation on all sides. Again, this issue is not the responsibility of the mold remediation company, but it is important for me (and other townhouse owners) to know so that we can have the attics checked periodically and perhaps (when our roofs are replaced) it might be possible eventually to fix the attics so that ventilation occurs on all sides. His price was very fair. Tyler is clearly very smart as well as knowledgeable and capable. I don't know why he isn't an engineer, but I'm very glad that he is a home inspector.

Tyler preformed a home inspection for us as we prepare to list our home for sale. We wanted to foresee issues that may complicate our future sale. He was very punctual, friendly, and thorough. He provided an excellent report with pictures identifying the exact issues noted. We were so impressed that we have him scheduled to inspect the new home we are buying. His price was higher than what I have paid for inspections on previous homes, but well worth it.

This was the second home inspection that Tyler did for me. I'm a first time home buyer, and Tyler was very good at explaining the process, pointing out potential problems, and identifying repairs that I should plan on down the road. His reports are very detailed, include good photographs, and are easy to understand. He simply does excellent work and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone in need of a home inspector.

Tyler was early and even though I was late he got started right away. He systematically went though the house looking for any and all the typical and not so typical problems with a home. He was well prepared carrying a complete set of inspection tools with him. He measured the moisture content in the bathroom floors, inspected the roof, attic and crawl space and the functionality of the heating and plumbing systems. He documented issues with photographs and kept notes to himself with a voice recorder, tracking any and all concerns. He promised the report early the next day and it was right on time. The inspection report was very thorough and clear with a stoplight (red, yellow green) type chart for all the inspected items. I asked many questions and he answered all of them professionally and stated clearly when a matter went beyond his expertise. That is not to say he wasn't knowledgeable. Specifically, he noted some cracks in the foundation and recommended that someone with detailed expertise take a look at them. A good experience all around.
