Acquire a fantastic landscape for your home or office! Bear Creek Landscapes LLC is an Eastside landscape company which offers terrific looking landscaping that is within your budget.
We had Bear Creek Landscaping, LLC hired to do our weekly yard maintenance. We had a contract with them that of course they created and we agreed to. After starting out with ok service we noticed items very clearly stated to be taken care of were not being done. We sent text messages, photos and even talked with the staff and still large areas of our yard were completely skipped for months. Items such as pruning shrubs and ground covers, weeding, fertilization, etc. that were explicitly written in the contract as to when and how these would be performed were completely ignored. Overall very poor customer service! We had enough dealing with this company and let them go.
Description of Work: Hired for weekly yard maintenance.

I got a quote from Ray for removal of my 10 stumps and a couple were small so he only quoted me for 8 at $50 each. Joel did the removal Saturday morning and it took him less than 30 minutes. He was also accommodating when I asked about taking out the juniper that wasn't part of the original request. I also looked at stump grinder rental and truck to bring it back and it was a no brainer to go with these guys. Time saved and money well spent! Fast, efficient, professional, and priced fairly. I would recommend and refer people to Bear Creek Tree Service for any tree work. Thanks Ray and Joel!

I usually don't write reviews but before signing anything with Bear Creek, I encourage you to read this. Our first ten months (2016) were great but when our account manager left, their responsiveness has fallen by the wayside. While the owner does respond, his team does not. I have been assigned numerous account managers and no one has contacted me personally since our representative, Mike left in January. There has been no follow-through. While waiting months for a response to replacing dead plants that were planted during an installation in 2016, they responded with an increased invoice on services. They sent two contract renewals - the first being a mistake. I would seriously vet them before signing another contract - especially since their staffing seems to be influx and they seem to be having some internal issues. You may or may not get a response, let alone quality service for a very expensive monthly contract. While they do a good job on mowing the lawn, their customer service is less than adequate. I'm still waiting on a request I made last fall. I've worked with lawn companies for a long time. I had used a lawn service on the east coast for 8 years (Mow Cow) and never had this much trouble or such unresponsive service. Hopefully, they can turn it around.
Description of Work: We were regular customers on a contract but following the departure of a key staffer, their service has fallen dramatically. They provided weekly lawn maintenance.

I like the service I think the communication could improve a little bit but the service is been fine. They actually came out when they said that they were gonna come out cause I told them I needed them to be out at a certain time frame and they accommodated me, the problem I had on the twenty fifth was that their truck broke down and no one never communicated with me that there was a problem until if I had not called the manager he wouldn't have known it himself because the crew didn't tell him. They got a little behind and did not tell him the truck broke down. They were supposed to come this morning, there's another mix up because they left my address they couldn't find my address. There was something I had to call but when they do come out they do a good job I just think they need to improve on communication a little bit.

TOTALLY AMAZING - exceeding all our expectations. Bear Creek was recommended by 2 of our neighbors. Rob McJunkin was our consultant and project manager. He is so caring, a keen listener. Rob truly loves his work and indeed does Great Work! Basically we wanted a new lawn and simplicity in the landscaping. Rob's vision for the yard was so perfect. We didn't realize the slope in the yard could be leveled. Rob's crew of 5 worked so very hard - there were MANY rocks they discovered. They removed every one. Perhaps the best feedback would be the words of my 90 year old mom when she saw our backyard. Wow!! Your yard looks fantastic. Her hands caressed the grass and she loves the newly planted Arbor Vitae and beautiful rhododendrons. Thank you Rob and team! I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: A total redo of our backyard. We essentially had "let it go" since we bought our home 25 years ago.

I am very sad to say that we will likely never use Bear Creek Landscaping again. I had initially looked into using goats to remove the over grown bushes and clear out our yard, but Bear Creek's rep talked me out of it saying they could make our backyard look great with minimal work. We asked for two trees to be remove, a trail cut into the back of the yard, and rock garden placed on one tier right off our porch, and the lowest tier cleared out and placed bark. -Multiple times they emailed and said they'd call to schedule us, when I checked in after three weeks of silence they still didn't have a date for us. -I emailed pictures of trees I wanted added to the back yard. They checked availability and said they could get them. I asked them to order them. We NEVER got the trees. -Instead of clearing a path, they completely ripped up all the shrubbery around the back, and never replanted plants. - A trail was supposed to be put in with cedar chips. There are no chips, just a barren chunk of dirt around the perimeter -They sold our Chinese maple trees and weren't forthcoming they were doing so when we asked for removal. You'd think they'd offer a discount for making a profit off of you, right? Nope. -They offered no Angie's List discount despite me always mentioning this during service arrangements. -Instead of a rock garden like we asked, they removed weeds and dumped cedar chips randomly. They didn't even place a weed protector over the area. Essentially the weeds have been fed a lovely bed of wood chips and completely grown back. I asked for complete removal (never to see them again). - Dark new soil was only placed on the middle tier, making the rest of the yard and back look unfinished. -We asked for Ivy to be trimmed on both sides of the fence. This was not done. -The ivy tops on the fence were not trimmed and are growing unkempt upwards. -We asked them to return our tree at the end because we were so horrified with how the yard looked. They instead gave us a Charlie Brown sparse 8ft tree. -Instead of calling to arrange a time to plant the tree, they dropped by, found we weren't home, and left it on our walk way. All and all this was a huge mistake. We spent TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS for little return. I cry sometimes looking at the yard. Long story short? Should have gone with the goats. We'd have saved $9,500 for pretty much the same outcome.

The communication was good. They were pretty timely and completed the tasks written into their proposal. That said, the crew was a little rough around the edges. They damaged a number of our landscape lights (they did come back and fix them) and buried one of our azaleas in a pile of compost. The sales person seemed to be concerned about some of these issues but never offered to compensate us in anyway. We also did not like that the salesman sat at our dining room table asking for final payment in full before the crew even loaded their trucks and a number of our landscape lights were not working. We would not hire them again.

I initially contacted them on October 29th. At that time, the Bear Creek representative, said he would come to my site to view the situation, then provide a bid for the project. The day of the appointment for his site visit, the Bear Creek representative texted me saying he had an emergency to attend to and couldn?t make it. But he asked that I email him my project specifications. I emailed him the project specifications at that time. Nearly two weeks passed and I hadn?t heard from him. So on November 11th I emailed him asking for a status on his bid. He never replied to that email. Then yesterday, November 23rd, I emailed him again asking if and when he would be bidding on my project. He finally replied this morning, stating that he was withdrawing from consideration for the project. I mostly want to complain about the service I received from Bear Creek Landscaping. I waited nearly a month to learn that they couldn?t (or perhaps wouldn?t) do the job.

I was excited about having a regular maintenance service with all of the included services described in the Big Deal for my yard, as it seemed like a good deal and included lots of beneficial items like weekly edging, one time of yard aeration and seeding, two times of annual planting, and two times of pruning of shrubs along with clipping removal among other things. I scheduled a appointment to meet with Mike and do a walk-through of the property. Mike arrived at my property, but apparently he did not remember that I had already purchased a "Big Deal" and initially was treating the visit as an estimate for work until I reminded him that I had already hired them. That would not have been a big issue had he actually been aware of the terms described in the Big Deal, but he was not clear on those terms at the time and was unable to answer some of my questions about specifics. He assured he he would look at the terms and then provide me with answers, but this never happened. The deal included two hours of initial yard clean-up, with more clean-up being available at additional cost. I had a suspicion that my yard was going to take more than two hours to clean-up. While my yard is not a jungle or close to it, my previous weeding/pruning situation was not ideal, and there was a need for some significant pruning and weeding, which I freely acknowledge. I was willing to pay for additional work, but when Mike quoted me a price, it was more than the price of my entire package. I had already paid for twice annual pruning, so one would think that could be done as a part of the package, but that was not offered or discussed. Mike also insisted that my yard needed to be in "maintainable condition" before they could start, something that had never been mentioned at all in the Big Deal or the fine print associated with it. I was taken aback, but Mike seemed knowledgeable, and I did understand the need for some clean-up, so I was willing to try and get a clean-up done. Because the cost was so great, I told Mike that I'd have to get some other estimates on the clean-up, and he encouraged me to do so. I eventually was able to find another company who was willing to do the work for a great deal less (less than half), so I chose to hire them and try to get the work done as quickly as I could so that I could begin my maintenance service. When I contacted Mike after having had the work done, he seemed offended that I had not contacted him prior to hiring another service, but he had previously been quite clear about his price, and the difference in cost was so great that I had no reason to believe he could come close to matching the price.. He insisted on coming out to see the results of the work I had done, and he proceeded to walk through the property and critique everything that the other crew had done. He seemed quite unhappy to not have done the work himself, and when I reminded him of some of the terms listed in the Big Deal, he still did not seem at all familiar with the specifics of my package. The other crew was coming back to finish a few last details, and I told him I'd point out some of his concerns to them. He said that he would send me a contract and we could commence service after that. This is where things took a turn for the worse. The contract he sent me sought to rewrite the entire terms of the Big Deal. it imposed time limits rather than covering the whole service that the Big Deal had promised--the Big Deal never mentioned any time limits on the service, but merely that it would be done. It also sought to exclude aeration specifically, which was something specifically mentioned in the Big Deal as part of the package. Furthermore, it included only one annual planting instead of two, explicitly promised to charge for any work not mentioned in the contract, stated that they would not reprune or train new growth on any plants previously pruned by other parties (wouldn't that be all of my shrubbery?), and said that all weeds that had not been pulled at the start of their service would not be removed by them--given that new weeds appear all the time, I cannot even imagine how that part of the contract would be enforced, making it even more ridiculous to include in the contract. None of this was acceptable to me, and unsurprisingly, I was not willing to sign that contract. I don't know whether Mike sought to write up a contract that was so unpalatable that I would terminate the service, thereby freeing them from their obligation to carry out the deal or whether he actually believed that was a fair contract. I asked the Angie;s List concierge to contact him and review the terms of the Big Deal with him, but he would not respond to her/talk to her, according to what she told me. No attempt was made to reach out to me to revise the contract after she sent him the information either. At that point, I decided it would be more trouble than it was worth to try and obtain what I had paid for. Given that I would have had to work with Bear Creek for a year, there is no telling how things would have been handled if I had been a stickler for the terms of the deal and tried to compel them to honor it or go back and forth with them over the contract. In any case, I do not find any of this to be a fair or proper way to conduct business. If your business posts a deal, you should be aware of the terms of the deal and honor them. You should not seek to take away services someone paid for already via terms in a service contract. Because the Big Deal was purchased through Angie's List, I was able to obtain a refund from my Angie's List concierge. I will say that I found Mike to be a knowledgeable individual, and it's entirely possible that he could do good job for someone else under different circumstances. However, I also found him rather intimidating. He did not strike me as flexible or easy to work with, and that would have been problematic in terms of my trying to get what I paid for going forward.

Response from Bear Creek Landscaping LLC
Really! This long of an explanation for a Big Deal package! We are talking about yards here. Summary- This persons yard was a disaster. She was using this package to try to get something done for free . She hires a mow and blow company who had no knowledge what they were doing for cheap . They ruined her yard , had no knowledge of pruning other than to hack. Weeds in the beds that were just mowed off. Quote" My husband does not want to spend any money on the yard" This was just not a good fit.. The big deal is to maintain a yard that is not that out of shape. If it needs to be brought up to a minimum standard , the customer will receive a quote. AS she mentioned , we didn't mind her getting additional quotes... I would suggest , if you are considering this deal to contact us first to do a free assessment, before diving in. It will eliminate this sort of experience.

Overall good job. Would have been an excellent job had they not dumped so much rocky soil on our lawn, which I had them come back out to smooth out. My great grass went from looking great to bad in a hurry. Fast forward I think it will help filtration over the long run but to spend a whole summer with splotchy grass was not cool. Other than that, very easy to work with, punctual, and fair value. Referred to neighbor and would hire again.

I called the company to have someone come out and look at my pond that came with a purchased home in August, since the pump stopped working and there are live fish in there. Rob McJunkin was an absolute pleasure to work with through both phases as well as the landscaping crew. They were communicative and punctual and after each day they completely cleaned up the project area as well as completely hosing down and cleaning our driveway and any areas of use. In our initial meeting with Rob, we gave him a run down of the changes we wanted to make. Rob picked out the stone shapes and colors for us and when I went to look at the materials prior to phase one, I was very pleased with his selections. His choices look absolutely beautiful in our backyard. The colors complement our existing stamped patio, our house color and a new Trex deck on the horizon. Bear Creek Landscaping will be our go to landscaping company for years to come!
Description of Work: Two phase project starting this summer with phase one and phase two was complete in one day on October 5, 2015. Phase one was a complete remodel of 3/4 of our backyard to create a beautiful hardscape with a stone patio, stone path and stone wall the length of the yard, also adding in a beautiful arborvitae hedge. Phase two was a continuation of the stone wall as well as stone border around a boxwood hedge and replacing our lawn. We are very happy with both projects. It looks beautiful!

While we were very pleased with the final result of the work, Bear Creek Landscaping was not terribly communicative, polite, or terribly clear about how their pricing worked. I was working with Kyle, and every time I got a communication or scheduling it was last-minute; after my consultation, I didn't hear about when the work was going to be done until literally 14 hours before it happened. Additionally, the price per manhour seemed reasonable for the additional services outside of the deal that I was receiving, but I was told that I would be charged on actuals. When I received my final bill, I was charged exactly what I was quoted despite the fact that I saw the work being done and know that it didn't take the manhours I was being billed for. They did give me a credit when I brought this up, but it was token and obviously not reflective of actuals. 4/10. Would not use again =/

Bear creek landscaping were the only company who promptly returned my calls and had someone come out to do a small job of fixing a retaining wall that a large delivery truck had crashed into. I couldn't find anyone willing to come out for such a small job. They not only came out right away, but they were out two days later and completed the job within an hour! We were so impressed we hired them back to do our yard. They did such a fantastic job on our yard. It was amazing to see the before and after of it. We had an unusual yard, a small hill that was mostly bark, weeds, and ugly bushes. Their landscaping contact came out and we discussed what we would like done, and received an estimate. Their employees work fast, diligently, and enjoy what they do. We also had a communication error in which they ordered the wrong retaining wall part for a part of the yard, but one quick call and 45 minutes later they had redone and fixed their error- no cost to us and completely smoothing over the incident. I love this company, if you want guaranteed good work, use them!

Jim was excellent to work with. I enjoyed walking around with him and learning about the new property, ways to cut costs, do things myself, and hear his ideas. The quality of the work was excellent, but we began to lose time and the men needed to accelerate their work pace at the end to get closer to what I was promised would be completed. Jim was helpful in motivating them and we were able to accomplish a lot. I think we all underestimated how long this one huge holly tree would take to come down, so that swallowed time. The workers were clearly detail oriented and had an eye for aesthetics and beauty, which came through in their pruning and trimming work. They also just "knew what to do" and I didn't have to babysit them after we did the property walk and discussed the plan. I will call them again in the future for some projects and major yard work. I may even call for maintenance if it gets out of control for me again. The hourly labor costs seemed a little high when calculated and broken down, but Bear Creek Landscaping was indeed professional, and had Jim follow the project closely with me even the day of on site, which was great service.
