Maxcare Hardwood Floors

My house is 45 years old, and has solid oak hardwood throughout, but was always covered with carpet. Maxcare pulled up all the carpet, with the exception of the bedrooms, and refinished all the hardwoods. There were some challenging spots from old water damage, and pet stain damage. They came out BEAUTIFULLY. I got a custom dark brown/gray stain, and I can't be happier. I've been doing a lot of house renovation lately, this was by far, the smoothest and most pleasant of the projects!

Jon was very professional and prepared. He came out for the quote with a list of references, license information, and explained his company's process well. It was hassle free which was great. He assigned a project manager but since we have not moved into the house we did not need to speak with her much. Jon provided a lock box so we could securely leave the key without having to let the workers in every morning or be there to lock up (we were not living at the house at that time). Quality: excellent, John identified the type of existing wood in the house and provided options on we could match the new floors to the old floor. Everywhere his crew installed new floors - there is not a squeak in the floor. The crew ensured that the subfloor did not squeak or fixed it before laying down the new floor. Something that may seem small but this company pays attention to those small details. Dust-Free: It is. The only negative is that the trucks run a vacuum that is noisy. But there is not a way to get around that. The crew worked quickly and efficiently so that the noise was for as short of time as possible. And they left behind a care kit that included polish and cleaning pads to maintain the floors for years to come. Their quote was more expense that some of the other quotes but it was their attention to details and customer service that made it worth it.

Estimate was timely and complete, follow up from office to schedule was quick. Work was done as promised and on time.

Jon Engles, owner/estimator, is articulate, well organized and experienced. His description of how to perform the patch-repair and the dust-free option were the reasons I chose his bid over the other (lower) bids. The written proposal/contract was amazingly comprehensive. I got what I paid for and you should see my floors! Gorgeous!

This is a great company. First rate across the board. We had a very nice wood floor that was completely hidden by a whitewash finish that was installed in 1990. It had become worn, and there were several places where it looked really bad because we had changed the footprint of the kitchen when we remodeled in 2006. I had been reluctant to have the floors refinished because our house is a very open floor plan and I could just imagine the dust that would be everywhere when they sanded/refinished. So I was particularly intrigued by the "dust free" process that Maxcare uses. We called and Jon came out very shortly afterward and went over our floors with us. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and informative. Very much the straight-shooter, which I appreciate greatly in a contractor. His bid was very reasonable and also provided more information about what the process would entail, what to expect, and what NOT to expect from a refinishing job. One of the best things he did was help us with the color. We had looked at stores previously, and the number of stains is simply overwhelming. He really helped us narrow it down and told us he would have his crew come out and put down several different stains for us to choose from. This was huge to us since we were actually able to see what the refinished floor would look like. Jon's crew arrived on time every day and accomplished the work in a very efficient and professional manner. I can't say enough about the work David and his team did. The fit of the stairs is simply amazing and the refinished floors look fantastic. And there truly was no dust, even though they were not just doing a refinish, but an installation also (on the stairs). We were so impressed with how the floors and stairs turned out that we hired them to install new, matching, cap rails on the half walls on the stairs to the upper floor and on the bridge that spans the foyer. Those also turned out great. The house looks so much richer and more elegant now. We already plan to use them to replace the carpet with hardwood in our master bedroom when we get around to remodeling that room. I would not consider anyone else.

From the moment I met John I knew he was the company to work with. John is the owner and knows his wood floors! We were extending the hardwood floors from the kitchen into the family room. They matched the wood beautifully. Jorge, Ryan, and Paul were the craftsmen that did the work and the floors are beautiful! You cannot tell where the old floor ended and the new floor begins. Melina was the scheduler and was great to work with and always responsive to my calls. Their "dust free" claim is true. They may not be the cheapest bid but thy are worth the price!! We went with price the first time we refinished the floors and you get what you pay for. We will ONLY use John and his crew from now on. We love our floors now!

Excellent job. Dust free sanding made a big difference. I had removed a chimney and needed the floor repaired. I wound up refinishing my entire upstairs and initially was disappointed that I had to redo the whole floor but after it was done I couldn't be happier. My floor had some rust stains that I had tried everything to get out. There were holes and damage to the oak and after the refinishing my floors literally look brand new. I also want to mention the work crew could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Good company and great job. Don't hesitate to call them.

"QUALITY" is the word that comes to mind when writing a review for MaxCARE Hardwood Floors. We had the unpleasant experience of a water leak in our kitchen which caused the hardwood floor to buckle. We found MaxCARE on Angie's List. They were prompt, friendly, and professional. We hired them on the spot. That was the best thing we could have done. It turned out that the water had done more damage than we realized. The job required mitigation to dry everything out. MaxCARE sent a fabulous crew to perform that lengthy task. Cabinets had to be moved which caused countertops to crack which meant the countertops needed to be replaced. MaxCARE has quality people working for them from the office staff to each and every one of the sub-contractors and they took care of everything. Every one of them went out of their way to make us happy. When insurance didn't cover some things that really needed to be done, MaxCARE covered the cost. We have never experienced a contractor so honest, skilled, friendly yet professional, and who cares so much about doing the job right. We ultimately ended up with a beautiful kitchen and MaxCARE was wonderful from beginning to end. Oh, by the way, the repaired and refinished hardwood floors are exquisite.

This was a home owners insurance job because of water damage. The water restoration company that subcontracts through Maxcare is wonderful. They were very professional and explained the whole process of their actions. Much care was taken from the crew that replace the cabinets and countertops. When it was time for the flooring to be replaced, we were extremely pleased with the flooring crew. They are a group of people who are highly efficient and courteous. They work together like a well oiled machine! They were AWESOME! We can not say enough good about the flooring crew!

Jon was on time, professional and very knowledgeable. His bid was very fair for the dust-free system but we wound up going with a different company based on timing/availability.

Jon and his crew did great work installing our new floors! We especially liked how much Maxcare interacted with us to make sure that our very challenging floor install was done exactly the way we wanted it. Jon personally ensured that his crew did everything that needed to be done to make us happy. We love the way our floors brighten the home and give it a warmth it was lacking, and we highly recommend Maxcare for complete floor installs!

Everything from the bid to the final inspection was done perfectly. Everything went as scheduled and with extreme care for our home. When they say no dust they mean it. The employees are great and gave us confidence that they knew what they were doing. The floor look better than when they were new. I could not recommend them more!

Hiring a "Handyman" Problem: I had a badly damaged maple hardwood floor that needed to be refinished. I had hired a "handyman" to do the job who had refinished many hardwood floors before but NOT a maple floor. He tried twice in three weeks to do the job which included two bouts of sanding lasting 3 days each. The house was deeply coated in sawdust even with the entire area being masked off with plastic sheeting. The first go around left the floor with a horrible uneven/blotchy stain. This required the second week of sanding to remove the stain. The second time around the stain was better but the entire surface of the floor looked like it had a rash. Small bumps over the entire surface. We had been living in two of our bedrooms with no kitchen for 3 weeks and it looked like we were going to have to start over again. I was distraught. Hiring Maxcare to Save the Day: I looked on Angie's list and found Maxcare and Jon Engles. Jon came out the next day and assessed the floor. He was honest and direct with me about what was needed. We talked about a plan A and plan B scenario. He was willing to try plan A which would require a screening of the floor and the application of a top coat of new varnish. He couldn't guarantee it would work but was willing to try it. And Jon was able to work me in in a few days. Monday Jorge and team arrived and within 4-5 hours the floor was screened, vacuumed, and re-coated. The finish looks beautiful. AND there was not a speck of sawdust anywhere. The equipment they use is fantastic. They may be a little more expensive but it is worth it to not have to deep clean every inch of your house after the process is done. I am so grateful to Jon Engles and Maxcare Hardwood Floors who rescued me from a hardwood floor nightmare.

Prompt bidding, very good work, cleaned up as they went, no dust after sanding. Easy to work with.

The salesman was prompt, efficient and gracious. We were not living in the house during the project but occasional visits allowed us to see that all was going on schedule. The house was locked up each day and kept neat throughout the process, with no damage. There was minimal dust on the window sills etc. We moved into the house two weeks after completion. It took about a month in total for the fumes from the coating to dissipate so that windows could be closed. Fortunately we had warm fall weather. Also, we were cautioned to restrict the use of rugs and avoid sliding furniture across the floors for up to 90 days to avoid scratching the surface before it was fully cured. The company left detailed instructions on floor care/cleaning along with equipment (Cleaning solution and an adjustable aluminum mop handle with washable microfiber cleaning pads). The floors are like new....visitors assume they were replaced! I would not hesitate to refer Maxcare Hardwood Floors or ask them back.

I can't say enough about the quality of service MaxCare provided. They were absolutely amazing. True craftsmen. If you didn't know it, you'd swear the hardwood stairs were put in when the house was built. They seamlessly tranisitioned the area from old hardwood to new. A PERFECT match. Everything came out much better than I anticipated. I plan on using them again for sure! Very nice folks as well!!!!

Started on time, finished a day early and even corrected some mistakes from the original installation

Jon Engels gave us an estimate back in February, but since we were having our kitchen remodeled he agreed to keep the estimate good until after the remodel was done. The work was finally started on Aug 11, 5 days after the remodel was complete. Jon's technicians were outstanding to work with especially Jorge who did most of the work. Maxcare's dustless system is truly dustless. We had other floor refinishing jobs that supposedly were "dustfree" but we had dust on the walls downstairs and on shelves upstairs. We had several bad dents in the floor and I have yet to find any indication of them even though I know where they were. The floors look better now that they did when they were new 23 years ago. Job well done.

I contacted Maxcare and left a message requesting a quote to refinish approximately 900+ square feet of maple hardwood. Within 24 hours Jon Engels had returned my call to set up an appointment to see the floors. While there he explained, at length, the process they use, the materials, some of the issues with my floors (pre-finished hardwood has a slight bevel at the edges) and how they would be addressed, and some of the extras they offer. All the while he was taking measurements and generally surveying the area. Within 24 hours of the appointment they had provided a detailed written estimate (a must for me). In an effort to do my due diligence and round out the quote process with three companies, I called a friend to find out who had done hers. She informed me that she, and another friend, had used Maxcare to refinish their floors. I had unknowingly seen the company's work and was sold at that point. They were kind enough to schedule the job while I was away so I did not have to kennel my dogs a second time. This was over and above what they needed to do. The work was started promptly the morning of July 30 (I have good neighbors who watch out for my house) and were complete with the job on August 2. This included removing and reinstalling baseboards and doors, along with the refinishing of the hardwood. One of the workers even called to inform me there was a power outage for a period of time, just so I would know what was going on. Upon my return home, the house was dust free and my floors look better than when they were originally installed. Jon followed up with a visit the next day to make sure everything was acceptable. The work is clean and efficient, and the workers professional.

Jon Engels was wonderful to work with! He sent me a detailed estimate after thoroughly examining my floors and advising me on what options were available. Jon was friendly, knowledgeable and prepared with information outlining the state of the art equipment and process that would be used. And the estimate was very competitive. The floors are absolutely gorgeous and I couldn't be happier! And the system was truly "dust-free" much to my surprise. My floors reflect the level of MaxCare's craftsmanship. And there were no hidden costs. They also left me with extensive information on how to care for the floors and provided a boxed of special cleaning tools to boot! Thank you SO much, Jon!

MaxCare was professional and timely from start to finish. It took us a while to get started because we had some other decisions to make, but they were patient and once I was ready to go they scheduled around the other work and kept their word. Our floors look fabulous! We are amazed at how well the old floor matches the new - you can not tell there is a 30 year age difference. The crew was extremely professional, and the office staff was easy to work with. It is apparent that everyone at MaxCare takes pride in their work and values their reputation.

I like the way he explained things and went through the process and he was very explicit in what they would do. We had some concerns about him taking off the base boards around the floor and have it redone. He's very explicit in how they'd take care of that. I was concerned that they would get everything and re-install it correctly and I think he answered the question that gave me the assurance that things would be put back like they are down to the paint and refinishing part. He was certainly punctual, he was very knowledgeable about what he was telling us and went through the whole process with us.

He turned out very well. They did an extremely good job. They were great. They really cared about what they were doing. They were very knowledgeable. They were good craftsmen. They took great care to make sure that everything was done correctly. They called back or showed up personally whenever I asked.

Excellent from beginning to end. Employees were courteous, respectful of our home, and very hard workers. Jon, the owner, was accessible and periodically visited during the two week duration of the project. They started on time, kept us informed of their progress, and finished on time. I would highly recommend this company for any hardwood jobs.

The most impressive part of the experience, besides the beautiful finished product, was how they handled the big speed bump that came up as soon as they pulled the carpet up. I will attempt to explain... The bid was for the following work: Remove existing carpeting and refinish existing oak "shorts" floor, remove the veneer flooring strips from the 4' x 6' entrance landing and install new oak "shorts" with a decorative border there, Install a decorative "Fan" design fireplace wrap in front of the gas fire place and also remove 14 fir steps and replace them with solid oak steps. They guaranteed a 100% dust free job, which I was very skeptical about, but they delivered wonderfully on that guarantee and believe me I looked in every nook & cranny for dust and could find none anywhere, which impressed quite a bit. The "Speed Bump" I referred to earlier came in the form of a 1' x 3' slab of solid concrete that was hiding under the carpeting in front of the (Originally Wood) Fireplace. This concrete protruded approximately 1/2" above the oak floor and would make it impossible to install "Wrap" flush with the rest of the floor. This was not foreseen or planned on and I fully expected to be approached for additional funds in order to pay for the obviously unplanned on removal of this large slab of concrete before the work could proceed, having budgeted a certain amount towards this already large portion of our overall remodel budget, I was apprehensive and nervous about this development. I never heard a word from Jon Engels, the owner of Maxcare, about this issue, instead he sent out a second truck with a jack hammer and separate large vacuum to contain the dust and spent the next 2 days hammering the concrete out of my floor, they then proceeded to finish the fireplace "wrap" very beautifully and the rest of the job was done so far above my expectations, words can not express my overall Satisfaction and down right love of our new floor. This was unquestionably the most positive experience I have ever had with a contractor and would recommend MAXCARE to anyone without hesitation.
