We were worried about getting this painting done, because of the horror stories we'd heard about contractors in general and painting contractors in particular. Strangely, of the 6 painters we asked to provide estimates, only 2 showed up and Jim's estimate was good, but it was our rapport with Jim that made us go with his proposal. The work was done professionally and per the cost and schedule Jim gave us before he started. Our rental is 17 years old, but inside it looks like a brand new place. We will definitely rely on JRV Painting for any other painting job we need done, and we've already recommended him to or next door neighbor at the rental. Thanks again, Jim!

The two painters were friendly and professional. I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

No problems, overall great experience. I learned that JRV's schedule fills up early. I made contact in June for an estimate. I had a total of 5 or 6 estimates and JRV's bid was somewhat higher than the average, but it was certainly not the highest. I went with JRV because I could tell that Jim really pays attention to detail in his assessment of the house, questions he asked and time spent during follow-up. He wanted to know what we wanted and he wasn't trying to steer us in some other direction. I figured the house will not be painted again for 10+ years and I want it to look as good as possible. No detail was too small. If this is the type of contractor you are looking for then JRV is one that I would recommend. Jim was able to fit us in as one of the last exterior jobs this year (2013) with an end of September start. Start to finish was about 6 days with 2+ days being lost to weather.

They all were careful in all phases, including drop cloths for shrubs, carport and driveway. They even covered our neighbor's car with plastic tarp, since they were not available to move it. The overall project was well done!

Jim came out and explained everything he would do on painting our house exterior. We received the bid and everything was explained in detail and the bid was very reasonable and professional. We set up a time in Sept. and they kept us informed on the schedule because they had to work around a very rainy month. They always showed up when they said and worked long hours and did a very excellent job! Our house looks beautiful and we are very happy with the job they did. Jim and his crew wanted to make sure we were happy and satisfied before they collected any money for the job.We will hire JRV for all our future painting and would highly recommend them!

Jim was the first to respond to requests, walked the outside of the house with me and pointed out all of the issues to be addressed during the prep work. Therefore, there were no surprises during the work. His bid was a bit higher than the rest of the quotes but none of the others noticed or pointed out the issues such as problems with roof leaks. The work was done quickly, there was no mess to clean up, and luckily they were able to paint a month or so earlier than estimated. Jim and his wife were wonderful to work with and I will have them do the interior painting when that is needed.

I found JRV clear, helpful, thorough, and honest from the very beginning. They gladly put in extra effort here and there, and we love our new front porch step which has always been slightly broken. Jim saved us $500 refinishing on the door by competent sanding and oil treatment instead. Our Angie discount was $227. The total price was very reasonable and we really got our money's worth. The house is absolutely lovely and does indeed attract complements, one today from the postman. We upgraded our lamps and doorbell afterward to match the loveliness of the paint job. I rate them a solid A. But not A+, for the following reason: Two nasty surprises occurred during JRV's paint job! 1) The morning after power washing, our garage door went crazy, all by itself. Up, down, stop, start, part way, for 20 minutes. I finally traced the problem to our porch keypad entry, which must have gotten some water in it during power washing. I am familiar with the device so I was able to disconnect it and let it dry until after the paint job was finished. Upon reconnect, it has worked fine. One glitch like this is not really a problem. Glitch 2) The very evening that they finished the job and left, our hot water stopped working. Instead of relaxing, My wife and I spent a long frantic Saturday night waiting for an emergency plumber to fix our hot water tank. It turned out we have an outside earthquake valve the painters must have accidentally hit (ladder?) during their final walkaround touchup service. This cut off our gas! I am not very familiar with our gas/hot water system, and we had no friends or relatives to help us. Roto Rooter charged $515 with a 200 "discount" to $315. JRV apologized and paid us $150 promptly. This nasty $165 gas glitch was one surprise too many for me so I've waited a while to review them so the unpleasant memory fades and my long term happiness over their excellent quality paint job can enable me to fairly rate them a solid A. Jim honestly stated he wasn't familiar with the earthquake valve, but as a painter in an earthquake zone he probably should have been. (We've since found a much better plumbing service via Angie's List, too.) My annoyance is psychological, I know, but it's just hard to forget such a rotten evening until some months have passed. Customers would do well to check their home operating systems, electrical, gas, etc, to make sure they are working properly after the paint folks leave each day, and JRV should check and remind their customers about such things too. Even the best folks can make mistakes. (Check pipes, vents, etc for damage during your final walkaround with Jim, as well as the paint job itself. ) Our final impression of JRV is: Solid professionals who enjoy their work. Very helpful, friendly, prompt, knowledgeable and competent. They didn't just leave rotting wood and loose gutters behind. They were very careful with weakened shutters and aging garage doors. My wife and I highly recommend them, and we are very glad we found them to paint our house. Received a prompt detailed quote , answering all our questions and concerns. Paint samples were provided closer to the time of painting. The day before painting was scheduled the exterior was power washed. The first day the exterior was prepped along with windows and plants fully covered. Painting took several days. Through the whole process we were kept up to date on the progress and asked for input on any decision. The crew included the business owner, his wife and one other person. Everyone was professional and friendly, on time every morning and respectful of our property. The work done was excellent and completed to the bid quote. We were asked to do a final walk through prior to paying and received a discount for using Angies List :-). Overall I could not be happier with the work done by JRV Paining and would highly recommend them. Our house looks great and we get complements on the paint job all the time.

I spoke with 6 paint companies in the last three years. Many of the estimates were extremely high or the painters were not personable or helpful. From the first meeting, all of our experiences with JRV painting were positive. Jim gave us a detailed, thorough, and affordable estimate of the costs to paint our circa 1906 South Tacoma home with detached garage. The project started in late August. Jim, his wife, and a crew member worked diligently, even when they were interrupted by unseasonably heavy and early rain, they used the time to scrape or prep sheltered areas ? not a moment was wasted. Jim gave great advice on paint types and even suggestions on painting the trim on our craftsman home. The suggestions were very helpful. JRV did a magnificent job on the details and kept the area clean in accordance with EPA standards. They spoke diplomatically with neighbors to make sure that no one nearby was affected by the work. They were extremely considerate of us and our home. It is obvious that Jim and his crew have high standards for their work. From prep to the final walk through, he and his crew made sure that every detail was perfect for us. Our home has a beautiful paint job and we had a very pleasant and fun experience working with the crew of JRV painting. I would not hesitate to recommend them to family and friends and will call them again for future paint jobs.

I received the bid in early February with work to start in July. The communication about the start date could have been better but with the busy painting schedule it was hard for them to provide a specific date until they were close to starting my job. Once my project came up an employee came out a week before to pressure wash the house. This only took a couple of hours. The house painting was completed in three days. The company is professional and easy to work with. I would absolutely recommend them.

Received an estimate in early March. Estimate seemed reasonable and was thorough. Agreed with the proposal with the understanding that painting wouldn't occur until late June early July. Painting actually began the first week of July. Work was outstanding. Contact and updates throughout the process was excellent. Would strongly recommend this firm.

Fantastic. It took three days like they estimated. They moved all the furniture out and back. When they were finished the paint was beautiful and you would not know they had been there. They cleaned everything up and vacuumed. Plus they were really friendly and thoughtful. They did everything they promised to do and more. If you want a beautiful job call JRV.

They were really professional and did a good job. It was a tough job too. I just like the fact that they showed up when they said that they would and they gave honest pricing. They did everything that we asked them to do and it looked good.

We are very pleased with the quality of work and attention to detail provided by Jim and his crew. Jim noticed all the issues that we had with our LP siding and provided an excellent solution to deal with the problem. Jim was professional and his estimates were right on target and very competitive. While replacing some of the siding he discovered there was some dry rot underneath which he gracefully repaired at a minimal cost. They also replaced some missing foundation vents. They arrived each day promptly and were very respectful about the noise while we were home. They checked with us multiple times during the project to make certain that things were progressing exactly as we wanted and that we were happy with the results that we were seeing. They did an excellent job of clean up every day and we truly enjoyed working with Jim, Bonnie, and Travis. We are extremely happy with the work performed and will definitely hire Jim and his crew on any future jobs we need completed.

Don't know what this guys issue is but he stood us up twice. Had an appointment a week ago for a bid on our house painting but he never showed up. Called a week later and asked if he could still come out and we said "sure", but again he was a no show. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS COMPANY...just find someone else. They are not reliable.

Two appointments were set up by Jim and he missed both on the same day! The first one, on May 8th at 7:00 am, he was a no show, never called till later that day. Then he wanted a second chance, so he picked 6:00 pm, later the same day. Once again, never showed up or called. Very disappointed!!

I had used JRV painting last summer for the exterior of my house and shop and was very pleased with the attitude of everyone, quality of work and friendly personalities that I chose them to do my interior painting of my home this spring. The results were the same. Jim and his wife Bonnie and employee painter Travis was excellent as usual. They even painted a couple ceilings for no extra charge that were not part of the contract, and helped me take apart, move from an upstairs bedroom and put back together and store in my workshop a heavy oak desk that my mother left me when she passed away 7 years ago, and I didn't want to part with it. Again, no extra charge. These people are great. I highly recommend them for painting both the exterior and interior of a home, as I have had both done now byh them in the past year.

This husband/wife team were great - very professional, prompt, enjoyable to work with and they got the job done in good time with excellent results. I have been extremely happy with the work that was done.

This is the second time we have worked with JRV and it was again a great experience. They were very quick to come out and bid on our project, and were able to fit our very tight timeline into their schedule. Their prices are always reasonable compared to the other bids we received, especially when you consider the quality of the work. Everything was completed on time (in fact, they got done early) and it all looks fantastic. Would definitely recommend using JRV!

Our work just finished yesterday and my husband and I are extremely pleased! Jim and Vonnie were great to work with. They arrived on time and went step by step with me on all the details that they would be doing throughout the process. They made me feel very comfortable with their knowledge and expertise, and I felt very comfortable letting them in my home to preform the work.They prepped and painted our ceilings and offwhite color, they painted and accent color on a huge wall, and painted the rest of our interior home that was designated with our other choice of color. We were originally just going to go with a stark white color for our ceiling, but Jim had told me that an off white color on the ceiling would be more efficient with the colors we had chosen. He was right on, and we couldnt be more happier! It pays to hire experience! They finished the job earlier than expected with the quality of work that he quoted for us. We will definitely hire them again to do the other projects in our home in the future!

Jim and his partner worked well together. All holes were filled and the hand trim was excellent. Going from white to black was no problem for the team. I had them spray silver glitter over the black to resemble expensive Star Tiles and wow!. Not only do you get reflections from the eggshell finish, the glitter also gives multiple flashes of blinking stars. Jim was careful and gained my input at each step to get my results I was hoping for. This was one bold move and the first time I seen it my jaw dropped as to how realistic the ceiling is to a clear night sky.

We were extremely pleased with Jim and his crew, and the outstanding job that they did. Jim and his wife, Bonnie, answered all of our questions, kept in communication with us, and followed-up after the job was completed. We got painting bids from 3 other companies and JRV's bid was very comparable. The job was completed in 31/2 days and our house looks terrific. We are planning on having them come back in the winter to do some interior painting. We highly recommend this company!

From the moment we met Jim, Vonnie, and Travis, we found them to be friendly, easy to work with, and yet absolute professionals. Their estimates were excellent, timely, and competitive. I called several of their references, ALL of whom raved about JRV and their work. All said they would absolutely hire JRV for any future painting needs, and now I understand their enthusiasm (and if you call me, I'll say the same thing.) After pressure washing, treating for any algae or mildew, and letting the wood dry for a couple days, they came back and used their testing equipment to make certain the wood was dry enough to take the paint properly. One side of our home is very close to the fence, which created a very steep ladder angle for their work, yet they managed it extremely well. When they needed to access our neighbor's yard for additional space, they were courteous with them also. While working, they discovered a small hole in our siding, which they sealed for us (had offered to replace the siding with any extra siding we might have, but we had none to use.) They also found some dry rot behind some window box planters and helped us get the board replaced and painted. Everything was well-covered and protected in the yard and around the house and was then cleaned up completely when the job was done. Extra caulking and extra coats of paint were added wherever they saw the need. We were so impressed that they were consistently more concerned with getting the job done with excellence instead of merely doing the minimum work required. A few weeks after our painting was completed, they gave us a courtesy call, which I missed, yet they continued to attempt to reach me instead of simply leaving one message and moving on. They truly wanted to hear from us and asked whether we had had a chance to look over the work carefully. They wanted to know if we had found any spots they might have missed or that might need touching up. We had found none, but were amazed that they would ask and offer to return for touch-ups. (They had also left us a can of extra paint in case we needed to do any touching up in the future.) In all, we were just so pleased with JRV's rare combination of both expertise and superior service. In our opinion, this makes JRV an oustanding value. We are already planning to have them back in the Spring to stain our fence.

We had a couple different companies come out and bid the project. JRV was a little more expensive, but I think the things that made our decision were personality and attention to detail We are very happy with our decision. I don't think the trim/soffits have ever looked this good (we bought the house when it was brand new).
