Dennis at Emerald State went above and beyond to replace my panel, which was a much less straightforward job that we had originally thought. He kept me informed through the whole process of what they were doing, what my options were, and what code and safety standards we would need to consider. The team ended up working for much longer than they had planned, but they were extremely professional and thorough, and I have called them again for future work.

This is the third time I used Emerald Electric and highly recommend this company. Bradley communicated with City of Tacoma to determine violation of city codes I was to correct. He got all necessary permits (which the previous house owners neglected to get) fixed all code violations to include upgrading the electrical meter housing unit and electrical outlets. He kept me up to date on all issues/progress. He was extremely timely since the city only gave me 15 days to make the corrections. He coordinated with the city inspector to re-inspect and ensured I passed inspection and notified me that I passed the inspection with flying colors. I am so pleased I found this company and extremely pleased with Bradley. This company is extremely skilled and knowledgeable on all electrical issues and code standards.
Description of Work: Performed an electrical inspection of the house. Replaced old electric meter, upgraded electrical outlet, and did all communication with the city of Tacoma to ensure city permits and service provided passed city inspection.

We were very pleased with the service provided by Emerald State Electric. We had gotten a few quotes and they were comparable in their pricing, what set them apart was their personable people. We called for an estimate and Dennis was able to come out that same day. Dennis was positive they could take care of all the things that we asked to have done, rather than discouraging as some other companies had been. He clearly explained everything they would be doing and made sure to schedule plenty of time for the service to be done. Brian and Brady came right on time to do the work and finished early. They were both really nice and took time to answer questions and explain what they were doing as the work progressed. When they were finished they cleaned up and even took away the old fixtures. We would definitely use this company again as well as recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Electrical panel swap with upgrade. Upgraded meter housing. Installed 4 11x11 LED fixtures. Installed dimmer for LED fixtures. Installed 4 2x4 trousers. Installed ceiling fans in living and dining room. Installed wall switch for fan in living room. Replaced 2 exterior light fixtures.

Dennis was very prompt in responding to my initial email and call. He walked me through several questions he had about our electrical service and generator so that he could evaluate what we needed. In this conversation he realized that we already had everything in place in our panel and on the exterior of the garage that we needed to use our generator in a power outage. Dennis was extremely helpful during our 20 minute conversation. He walked me through how to test the system and what I need to get for the cord to plug into the wall outlet to run our panel. During our first power outage in November everything worked just as he described. He did not charge me for this advice. I will use his company for future work that we will have.

Dennis was awesome to work with. This may not have been a very complicated, multi day job, but he provided top notch Customer Service! Everything that is important to me, he provided. He came prepared, well equipped, great communication, on-time, fair price and performed a quality install. He took the time to review the condition and installation of my original panel, explain load capacity and possible future options. He's a great example of a successful small business owner, doing it RIGHT!

After the power outage we still were not able to get power to our bedroom and closet even though the rest of the house had power. I called Dennis around 4pm and he was able to get out to our house that night by 5:15. I was under the impression that maybe there was a gfci that had tripped but I checked all of them and they were working fine. Dennis checked some of the outlets upstairs and then checked the panel and determined it was a faulty arc circuit breaker. That was replaced and we had lights! Dennis also checked a can light in our bathroom that wasn't working and determined it was a broken wire that caused the light not to work. He gave me some quick suggestions and instructions on how to fix it and what to buy. We are very happy to have this issue resolved.

I saw a panel replacement deal on Angie's List for Emerald State Electric. I had extra questions about additional work, so I attempted to contact the company via their online web submission question form. I didn't receive a response. Due to a price drop I went ahead and booked them on Angie's List. About 3 days later I received a call from the owner Dennis. I enjoyed meeting with Dennis to discuss what was needed. He answered all my questions and gave me good advice on a project I discussed with him. The installers came on the day expected, did nice work, were professional and cleaned up after themselves. A county electrical Inspector wrongly advised me ESE would have to return to install a clamp on the ground wire. I tried again to use the ESE web submission form (which says it texts them directly) because I was working nights at the time and could not call during their business hours. I did not get a response. I was able to call ESE another day. I asked Dennis about the web submission form. He apologized and said they'd had some problems with their website during the time frame I attempted to contact them. Dennis immediately sent his installers that evening to inspect the work. They said they had done the work correctly within code, showed me the clamp, photographed it and got the issue cleared up with the county inspector, following up with me afterwards. Overall, ESE was professional, offered a good price and did great work.

It went fine. They explained the report in detail and did not try to sell me on anything that I didn't really need. They came prepared with shoe covers which I really appreciated and were patient in answering my questions. Overall they performed both jobs in a very expedient and non-invasive manner. I'd definitely use them again. I rated "good" for pricing because I really don't have any idea what the rates for the work they did are.

They were prompt and helpful. Very knowledgable and took the time to explain several options. In the end we chose to replace one heater. They had to come out several times afterwards due to a malfunctioning product, NOT their fault. He even stopped on Christmas Eve when the new heater did not work. They replaced the thermostat but still no go. Finally brought in a new replacement (exact heater from manufacturer) and we have had no problems since. Although stressful to constantly have to contact them about the unknown reason why the product did not work, both electricians were beyond polite, helpful and intent upon service and therefore made a potentially bad experience much much better.

Sorry for any confusion on this project, and thank you so much for updating this review. We worked late into the evening on this project and accidentally left without installing an electrical junction box cover, explaining the exposed wires inside. Once we heard that we had forgotten the cover, we did make a trip back to the job site to install the cover. At that time, we also handed the customer a copy of the receipt in person, the previous original receipt had been mailed to the customer the day before, as the customer was not present on the job site at the time we had finished. Thanks again for your business, electrical panel upgrades and panel changes are one of our most popular services, especially in the Tacoma area with such a large number of older homes. We strive to ensure the best customer experience possible, and always appreciate any feedback on anything we did right, and anything we can do better.

I contacted the provider about looking at some lights that intermittently don't work. He responded promptly to my inquiry asking to contact me by phone to discuss it further. After waiting three days for a call, I scheduled someone else to look at the lights. I feel that he should have returned the message or called explaining he was booked or otherwise couldn't get to it. It was poor service and let a bad impression.

Twice I had used Emerald State with verbally agreeing to price and scope of the work. All discussions were between myself (branch manager) and Dennis, the owner. I was a very satisfied customer. For this job, Dennis wanted to send a tech out before the work to get an idea of the layout of the warehouse, to which I agreed as long as it wasn't additional. I was outside of the branch the day Brian, his tech came by to look at the warehouse layout. In his visit he spoke with a warehouseman with no authority and somehow thought he could get approval for 13 (not 3) ballasts and nearly 30 lamps (instead of none). Brian had done previous work and knew that we were upgrading our lighting completely in the next year and we only wanted to make the area safe and have minimum coverage, not bring the warehouse ballasts to 100% functionality. At no point did Brian or Dennis contact me to go over new pricing or estimate. Brian shows up on day of work and presents tablet for me to sign with 13 ballasts. When I told him absolutely not, he said my guy and him discussed it on the Wednesday visit. My employee knows he is not authorized to approve any work, let alone thousands of dollars of additional work outside what Dennis and I spoke of. At time of booking, Dennis estimated $100-$150 for scissor lift, but ended up only finding one for $300. This increase was not discussed with me. Dennis justified the cost saying the industry was so busy it was the only one he could get. On our initial phone call, I told him we could provide an order picker lift if need be and have done it with previous electricians. The previous 2 jobs that came in under budget included 2 people, but labor was reasonable. This job was billed for 7 hours labor when the second person was basically watching and handing the tools to Brian. Dennis indicated this is for safety reasons, which I get. But the labor expectation was set the first 2 jobs and then jumped huge in the third job. I was then presented with an invoice that included over $150 for restocking fees for the parts I never ordered, that Brian took upon himself to greatly expand the scope of the project and buy the parts without consulting Dennis or myself. I naturally refused to pay that. After a lengthy, professional discussion with Dennis, he was able to present a new invoice with no restocking fee, but with the same labor and scissor lift price. Brian, the tech I have dealt with in each instance is very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. However, how the communication from my phone call of troubleshoot a circuit and replace up to 3 ballasts after we see which lights came on to getting "approval" from a general warehouse worker to increase the scope of the work fourfold is beyond me. And to be asked to pay the restock fee, increased scissor lift, and labor outside the pattern of the first 2 jobs assured that my only advice to anyone using this company is to get a written exact proposal and disclaimer that no additional work or costs will be approved without written consent. Is $2000 too much for the work they did? Not at all. Does this billing practice feel a bit of and bait and switch? Absolutely. Dennis has been nothing but professional and a good communicator. However, relying on your tech to talk to someone not in charge of anything in a warehouse to greatly change the job is not responsible. I suspect that based on my previous conversations and experiences with Emerald, that this is poor communication, not purposeful, deceptive practices.
Description of Work: Troubleshoot circuit that was tripping and replace 3 ballasts in warehouse was description I gave to Dennis over the phone. Setting up a pre-site visit and not communicating was the worst thing that could have happened.

Dennis called the next day after I sent in my inquiry and came out shortly after to assess the work to be done and give us a quote. I appreciated the fact that he didn't try to get us to purchase more than what we needed and that he provided so much detail on how things work and what was not working for us. When the two electrician's came out to do the work they were punctual and efficient. The outcome was what we were looking for and, importantly, they were respectful of us and our home. We would definitely recommend them and would use them again ourselves.

While in the process of doing a kitchen remodel I need electrical work done before the kitchen cabinets were schduled to arrive in a couple of weeks . That's when I went to Angie's list and found Emerald State Electric and read the reviews. I have to say I'm very happy I called them! I spoke to the owner directly and he was kind enough to fit me into their busy schedule right away ! The next day a couple of the electricians came to my house and gave me a bid for the work I wanted done which was reasonable. I found the electricians to be very knowledgeable, easy to converse with and professional . With in a week they came out to do the work they arrived on time and confirmed with me the work they were doing . They did a great job and went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with the work done! I would use this company again and highly recommend using them to anyone who needs electrical work done! They did the work all in one day as promised. Brian and Brandon were very polite and professional. I would use them again. They did not make clear to us that we would have to set up the inspection ourselves and that we would need to have Seattle City Light come out to reconnect our service from the road to the new mast. And that would be an additional expense. We currently have a temporary connection. This was not made clear to us until after the work had been done. Also, I had to contact them the following week to get the permit. They dropped it off at the house when we were gone. I am assuming that we need to call the inspector and set up the inspection. Having this information ahead of time would've been helpful.

I made a list of known issues, just so he would know I was aware of them while he did the inspection. I received a bid on those know issues. I did not receive a report of the outcome of the inspection. I wanted the inspection, not the bids, so I wish I had not named the known issues. He may have inspected, but I have no idea what that entailed because I did not get a report. I called and asked for a report of the inspection...he said he would have to go back to notes and would get it to me.....that was a couple of months ago. All contacts were pleasant and professional... I just wish I had asked what to expect and had made it clear that I was naming issues, not asking for a bid. The quotes are reasonable, but I really wanted to know if their were underlying issues or additional concerns I should address. IF I had ever received a report of the inspection I paid for, I would be pleased. Unfortunately, I wasted the fortunately small amount of money. If someone pays you to inspect they want the results of the inspection. Bids optional.
