I am the owner of Emerald State Electric. I would like to start by thanking you for your business and for purchasing our online special electrical inspection. I would like to mention that I personally came out to your property and did the electrical inspection myself. I did not try to sell you on any upgrades, or up-sell you on anything you did not need. I did point out a very dangerous situation that I found during the inspection within your electrical service. Someone had replaced the existing original 100 amp service with a 200 amp panel, and the work was done work without the proper required permits. The 100 amp meter enclosure and service entrance conductors were never upgraded for the new 200 amp panel. You had 100 amp rated wires fused with a 200 amp breaker. In the event of an overcurrent situation, your service entrance wiring could have caught fire before the main breaker would trip. This was not a safe or legal installation. We thoroughly inspected the entire electrical system, notified you of a major safety concern, spent extra time looking into viable fixes for the safety concern, and provided you with a detailed estimate on the repairs and a clear explanation of how we would make the repairs to the system. I also personally spent hours looking for a smaller main breaker that would work with your panel in an attempt to provide you with a lower cost alternative. I would like to think that finding this red flag safety issue and presenting you with solutions to repair it would have left you satisfied with the $49.00 investment you made in our electrical safety inspection. I’m sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the estimate that we provided for the repairs. The repairs were going to be quite difficult, and there were challenges to overcome that are not present in most homes.
