It went poorly. They sent us a letter from their lawyer telling us in so many words that they were the victims. Our next step is to go to the State Attorney General with our complaint. And, to present to the the other real estate company in the deal the same details for their response. If they are unresponsive, then we go to the BBB and Washington State Attorney General.
Description of Work: They represented a seller along with another real estate company and sold me a home which after the closing I found out I could not move into because it did not have a valid certificate of occupancy. They represented the house as a new house ready to move into. They maintained that they had no responsibility for checking whether all the documents were in order. We found out after the offer had been made that the house was due to go on sale on the courthouse steps for builder non-payment of taxes and other bills. How could a reputable real estate company not know that? I maintain that it is part of the due diligence of a consumer based business to know what they are representing to the buyer. As a consumer I did not expect to buy a house I could not move into. If I can't trust the real estate agent, then why bother with them? The seller had a not so good reputation in the community and most everybody I have spoken with knew that, so it makes me believe that the real estate agent knew that also. The bottom line was that we spent in excess of 12,000 dollars to obtain the certificate of occupancy and Windermere has refused to help us out or even acknowledge to us that they were sorry we had problems occupying the home.
