We had a custom home built on our property while we were living 2000 miles away. Scott did a great job on the construction and often pointed out ways we could reduce costs. Could not have asked for more from him, his attention to detail was amazing. You might find a cheaper contractor but you will sacrifice the quality and the service.

In retrospect I am quite happy that I took the path I did as there were several unexpected developments and/or requirements that I had asked for that were "unexecutable" during the course of construction that we were able to fix on the fly. I was very happy with Scott's attention to detail during the course of construction and his quality of work far surpassed most other residential contractors I have dealt with. One of the first challenges was trying to get a permit to do the work. It turned out that the property I purchased had a barn on it that had never had a permit issued for its construction. (Not disclosed in the seller disclosure). As a result the issuance of a permit was delayed a bit until we reached an agreement with the county that we would retroactively get a permit for the structure and do any required fixes that a structural engineer determined were necessary. I ended up having to get Scott to do some additional concrete work on the barn foundations to make the county happy and hired a separate contractor to do some of the wood structural work to keep Scott focused on getting the house completed on time. I am a retired engineer with some experience in doing construction projects. Scott would be the first to tell you that I am a somewhat uncompromising taskmaster and I really appreciated the fact that Scott would push back based on his extensive experience in what works in home construction. We made several adjustments to the layout of the home as we went along and we had a good give and take on what I was adding vs items that were abandoned for a credit and the overall cost impact. The only issue I had with our project centered on critical path planning. For those not familiar with large projects this is the planning that determines what work that needs to be done today (eg: material ordering) to ensure that the work we are going to be doing in the next several weeks goes smoothly. This improved as we got through the project and at the end we ended up getting it done in the agreed time frame (excluding the delay in getting the permit at the outset of the project). I would certainly recommend Scott to anyone looking for a quality contractor to do either a renovation or construction project.
Description of Work: I wanted to build a new house and was originally planning to build a foundation and put a manufactured home on the foundation. I was looking for contractors who would do the foundation before the manufactured home was installed on the foundation and ancillary work after it was placed. When Scott became aware of what I was actually looking for he asked if he could bid on both the foundation and the whole job as a stick built home. I had just toured the factories of several manufactured home suppliers and became aware of some of the restriction that they placed on the homes due to road transport restrictions as well as the quality of some of the "behind the wall" components. There were a lot of items I wanted that could be supplied at extra cost to the manufactured, but several that could not such as a 2- 4'X4' skylights as well as a steeper pitch roof. After a couple of iterations with both Scott and the manufactured home suppliers I decided that despite the fact that stick building would take longer than dropping a prebuilt home on the foundation, the cost difference was not as great as originally expected and I could get everything I wanted. Schedule was extremely important to me and we covered this at length in our pre contract discussions and Scott promised that it would be finished in 6 months.

Description of Work: Scott is building a house for my retirement and doing it while I am 2200 miles away. He seems to be doing very high quality work and puts up with my wife changing her mind continuously. I receive regular updates and photos. Looking forward to the finished product.

Description of Work: I have been working with Scott for several months on the design and now construction of a new home. We went through several design and cost iterations during this period. Since we were not in town to do this face to face we accomplished it via telephone, email and drawing markups scanned and printed at office depot. Scott also submitted the permit applications to the county on our behalf and worked well with them to try and move the approval process along as quickly as possible. We have just started to pour concrete so still have a long way to go to completion. So far our collaboration on this project has been great and he has been open, honest and helpful.

We are in the infant stage of our project. So far, so great!
Description of Work: We are still in the process of working out a couple scenarios of our retirement home. What I love about Scott is his knowledge in the construction industry, and then some. He always answers his phone, or immediately calls us back. So comforting. Although we are in the infant stage of our future retirement home, I feel we are off to a fantastic start. He has answers to all our questions. If he doesn't know the answer - there is no B.S. and he tells us upfront that he will get back to us on that.... which he does.

He's the definition of all the word and quot;professionaland quot; means; high integrity, work ethic, and the kind of treatment you would expect from a loyal best friend. His wife is superwoman as far any financial questions.

8/30/2012 by Sherry Roberts, Port Angeles, WA Kattau Construction just completed a water damage repair caused by the hot water tank leaking into a bedroom of my mobile home. My call to Kattau was returned immediately and Scott was able to assess the situation that same afternoon, including his (very reasonable) bid. I needed to wait a bit for their availability but that waiting time was well worth it. EVERYTHING about their work was A+. This included excellent communication, materials used and labor. At the end of each day's work, the site was totally cleaned. Scott's crew is efficient, knowledgeable and works quickly. I was extremely pleased with the sub-contractor and Scott's recommendations saved me money. Any concerns or questions I had prior to and as the work progressed were answered to my satisfaction. I trust this company and each individual who worked in my home. The bedroom and hot water closet are now better constructed than when this home was new. In the future if more repairs are needed, l will call Scott first to get his opinions and bids. To every other and ldquo;Little Old Ladyand rdquo; I highly recommend this same action. In fact, my neighbor did just that. My work was completed yesterday and today the Kattau crew is working next door. I couldn't be more pleased with the entire outcome.
Description of Work: A 10' x 5' section of my floor needed to be taken out and replaced. New beam supports, subflooring, insulation and top flooring were put in. This included replacing approx. 5' of the outside corner supports. A built in chest of draws had to be partially dismanted to allow the floor work. This was done with no damage and then put back. A new hot water tank was installed. That required moving and replacing pipes and fixtures.
