They checked out the existing system before presenting us with multiple options from which to select. They were extremely helpful in pointing out the advantages and disadvantages of each option. They worked quickly with our city regarding permit and inspections so the new heating and air conditioning system would qualify for the city's energy conservation program and the low interest low program offered by the city. They did an excellent job of coordinating the work with two other companies I had working at the house at the same time: an insulation company and an electrical company. The work was successfully completed, inspected, and passed as proposed. They delivered as expected. Their were 7 different people work did various aspects of the work - all were professional, courteous, and respectful of us and the cleanliness of our house.
Description of Work: They replaced an old heating, air conditioning, and duct work system with a new one.

We were thrilled when this provider stated they would actually prefer to put the duct work under the house instead of in the attic. The sales person listened to our problems and came up with the perfect solution of combining the two systems. We needed individual heat control for the addition. And it is wonderful. The Mitsubishi system is nearly silent! The work was done in a timely manner (3 days) and they did an outstanding job (as always). They installed a gas fireplace insert for us a couple of years ago and we knew they do excellent work. They are expensive but well worth the cost since they do such a great job!

They were extremely professional. They came exactly on time with two trucks loads of workers and equipment. Did the job without hesitation and cleaned up afterwards. Very impressive. The new unit has worked well keeping us warm through this cold weather. The new AC kept us cool during the hot hot summer. Couldn't be more pleased with the total outcome.

It went fairly well with a few exceptions: The heat pump was coming on even when the temperature was near freezing. I was told it would not come on and furnace would come on at 40 degrees or below. When I questioned the technician he said the heat pump was just deicing itself. Another technician a month later said no, the system was set up incorrectly. They eventually fixed this. Campbell did send out multiple techs/inspectors and pretty much ffixed this themselves but it took some persistence on my part. Also, after the complete installation, a technician found that the return airflow was insufficient. They installed a bigger vent and duct for the return. Then, they tried to charge me an extra $500 beyond the original estimate. The heat is uneven. We have two warmer rooms nearer the furnace. They said that is normal but it wasn't a problem with the older system. Other than those caveats, all is well.

Provider arrived at the house at the appointment time. Inspected viewed the layout of the current system inside the house, and then went into the crawl space to inspect the furnace and ductwork. Wore protective clothing and booties, and was very careful about not bringing any dirt into the house. Had some worthwhile observations about the replacement, and some other construction we were contemplating. Within 2 business days, he emailed us his proposal, covering a number of options for how to proceed. The bid was about $3,000 higher than the outfit we went with.
Description of Work: Provider came out to the house to inspect a possible job of installing a new furnace/ airhandler, heat pump and chiller unit for AC. Provider did provide a bid, within 2 days.

They were not bad. They are polite. They are courteous. They are professional. They have always done a good job. I had no problems with them.
Description of Work: Campbell & Company fixed our air conditioner for the summer. We have a service agreement with them. They came in and checked the air conditioner. The first guy who came over checked out everything then he left. When it was time to turn on the air conditioner, it did not work. They were prompt to send somebody as soon as I made a phone call. The only thing that happened was that the guy forget to put the breaker back in. Everything ran perfectly after that. It was not a big problem because everyone could have done that.

The salesman came out right away to give me a bid for the job. He was very positive and was assuring me about the company and how much he knew. I had two other bids from companies, but chose Campbell and Company. I wanted the job done the next week as our old unit did not work at all. The Salesman knew this and told me there should not be a problem with that. When I called to let him know they had the job, he told me that it couldn't be scheduled until the following week. (So two weeks out) We went with that as I had already contacted the other companies to let them know I had selected a different contractor. So the workers came out On a Monday, did an excellent job, other than putting a hole in my ceiling. Accidents happen. They had to work on the system all day Tuesday as well. All the technicians were helpful and did an awesome job. The supervisor arranged to get the ceiling fixed. Took a day or so to arrange that. As far as the heat pump job is concerned I have not heard from Campbell and Company since job was completed. They have not called to see if my ceiling was fixed or if I am happy with any of the work. Hmmm, The office person did send me the information for the rebate and said to just call the rebate people if I had any questions. Did call and Lennox people were NOT helpful about rebate. So despite the fact the salesman said they would handle the rebate paperwork, I wouldn't have to do a thing, etc..... that was not done. Because I was very happy with the sevice people, I would probably recommend this company. Not happy with the "after" customer service. This was a lot of money and I expect great customer service.
Description of Work: Gave a bid for complete replacement of heat pump, plus addition of some additional items, duct seal, add a return and supply to master bedroom. Completed all above work.

On our routine annual check of the HVAC system, the service tech noted two items needed to be replaced. The parts were ordered and within one week he was back to replace the condenser fan motor and dual run capacitor. Within the hour the job was finished. The service tech reviewed what he did and we talked about the warranty.

The fan on heat pump for my daughter's home quit running on a Sunday. I suspected it was due to failure of Run Capacitor. My daughter purchased one from Campbell & Company for $50+ tax the following Monday. When I learned of the price, which I felt was an exorbitant amount, I visited Campbell & Company. I noted that such parts are available from The Home Depot for $15.49 (order only) and Grainger for $21.09 and wanted to know why they charged so much. Parts Manager's response was that they couldn't compete with pricing from "Big Box Stores." I personally feel Campbell & Company discourages Do-It-Yourself repairs by over charging for parts. I wonder if a man versus a woman had purchased the part if the price would have been different, e.g., possible unethical behavior based upon gender.

We had a good experience with Campbell & Co. The technician arrived within the scheduled time and his work was very professional. The technician wears disposable booties when entering our house. He spent a good deal of time in his examination of the unit. The only service that was needed was the change of filters. We decided to install the HEPA filters to help with allergy control.

I've had a service contract with Campbell to check my HVAC since 2010. My house was built in 93, I got 20 yrs. on my Rheem heat pump and furnace which is pretty d*** good. My last service visit in March 2013 the tech told me that I can spend $1000.00 to keep it running and I'd probably be spending that much or more in the future to keep it going. My heat pump controller was just about shot, the points were wore almost to nothing where they couldn't be adjusted anymore. That's a $500.00 bill. My Freon pressure was low by quite a bit, another $300.00 bill, plus they'd have to do a pressure/leak test another $300.00. Can you see where's this going? My compressor was on it's last legs and the fan was eating itself up, metal flakes around the shaft. That's another $1500.00. So I had a choice, band aid the system till total failure or get a new system. I set up an appointment with Campbell that day for an estimate. Kerry the service rep gave me 3 options. Replace the heat pump with a dry pump with the old furnace, $3500.00. When either failed I'd have to get a new system. Remember the furnace is 20 yrs. old. 2nd choice was a middle of the road system that would cost $6300.00 plus tax, so I'm looking at 7K, not eligible for any rebates, 5 yr. warranty . 3rd option was a top of the line system. With the PUD and Fed rebates of $1200.00 it came to 8K and the warranty is 10 years. I checked around and I came up with several competing bids. Everyone was close on the bids but I feel pretty comfortable with Campbell. So I set up for the 22nd to take the old out and the new in. The crew got here at 8:15 and started in. They worked their a**** off. I was very impressed. They laid tarps down from the front door to the attic access in my bedroom closet. There was one crew working on the attic furnace and another working on the outside heat pump. They had everything tore out in 3 hrs. The attic crew did a lot of sheet metal work for the new furnace, they also laid down and secured 3/4" plywood for the furnace so it's easy to change out the filter. Which I won't have to do cause I'm keeping the service contract and the tech will change it. The guys kept me informed through the whole process, no question was to stupid. I'd hire these guys in a second and I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Removed my 20 yr. old HVAC system. Replaced with an energy efficient system. They did excellent sheet metal work for the new furnace and all of the piping that was replaced. Totally professional in everything that was done. They worked on the project for 9 hrs., they worked hard to. Laid down tarps where they walked, carted off all of the old material. They didn't have to leave to pick up anything they forgot cause they had everything on site. From the start to the finish was very professional and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. Loved working with this company from my initial contact to the end. A very good company to do business with.

The "Do's." Do your homework! If you're going to spend a lot of money, take the time to research what you're buying, not just the brand but the company who will be servicing it for the next 15 years. Get multiple bids from a variety of companies. I spent approx. 5 hours researching (internet, Consumer Reports, etc.) I got 5 bids which took about 10 hours getting bids. (2-Lennox, Trane, York & Rheem). Having someone in your home to go over your unique system tells you a LOT. How much time they take; how thorough they are, what they see-what they don't. You get educated as you go through the process & see what isn't mentioned or glossed over. Get a detailed bid. Does your utility company offer a rebate? If so, you want someone who is familiar with it. Not someone who says "I'll have to look into that. Don't think you'd qualify" when you KNOW you do. DO get a list of referrals from companies you are considering, including older customers (5-10) years and new ones. 5 customers should give you a good feel for the product they sell as well as their service responsiveness & cost of that service. DON'T be limited to a brand name unit like I was initially. I thought I'd only buy a Lennox. Same with companies that have a large presence in your community. Sometimes bigger isn't better. It might mean they service a larger market (including commercial where bigger money is) & not take the time or send experienced techs to service your unit which was my experience. I went with a small company (Delta) that I fully researched and am very happy with my decision.
Description of Work: I have a duplex (I live on one side). Have 2 Lennox (elec) heat pumps installed 1995 and had them provide service from time to time & then in more recent years went on maintenance program. From 2/2012 to 11/2012 I have spent a bit over $1700 in heat pump repairs/maintenance as more problems (due to age) was discovered. Each time I have a different tech who wasn't experienced in servicing older Lennox systems which meant several trips out that I had to take time off work. Finally, in November 2012, yet another tech came out to do maintenance even after I had requested the same tech who had come in summer or at least a Sr. tech. The tech told me this time that one unit would need an est. $2,390 to repair. The other unit about $6-700. He recommended a new heat pump as the repair costs were so high. OK, I asked for someone to come give me an estimate. Terry gave me 3 estimates ranging from $6,500 to $7,500. (Lennox). I did some research on internet. What I learned was the most critical factor of any top-grade heat pump system was the installation rather than the brand name. With that in mind I got 4 other estimates for a new heat pump system (various top brands-Lennox, Trane, York & Rheem). I looked at cost (of course) but even more than that, was how satisfied were customers with reliability of product, service, responsiveness and integrity of company. I went with Delta Heating & Cooling (Rheem) because of their loyal customer base and reputation & honesty. Cambell & Co bid the EXACT system (Lennox) one of their competitors did. Cambell's price was $1,720 higher.

Response from Campbell & Company
Thank you for taking the time to provide members and our company very valuable feedback and information. I took the time to review your account and found that you have been charged $639.90 in repairs on your duplex in the last year, with some items failing that would be typical or even good for two- 17 year old heating and cooling systems. We find that the life cycle of most systems is 12 to 15 years before major components begin to fail, much like a car transmission or engine. It appears that during a routine maintenance visit one of our experienced technicians also gave you an idea of the recommended replacement for components that were beginning to, but had not yet failed. Thank you for the mostly "A" and "B" ratings for our previous service. We are very sorry to lose your business, but respect your considedrable research and time. You have made a very good point about the most critical factor being installation and this is where I would like to caution you and other Angie's List members that the comparison of our price for a Lennox system to a competitor and an "F" rating for pricing is unfair. Our company is about ten times the size of the typical heating and air conditioning contractor which allows us considerable buying power from the major equipment manufacturers and we buy direct with no additional middle-man. If a competitor can install the exact same system for more than 25% less, what corners do you feel they cut to provide that heating and air conditioning system? At Campbell & Company you will find that we will never be the lowest priced, but will always provide the best quality installation, fair pricing, and will stand behind every product we install or service. We know that purchasing an HVAC system may be one of the single biggest investments you make in your home and we are responsible for comfort in your home - we simply won't short-cut on our customer's comfort.

From the initial phone contact to the installation to the ongoing maintenance, Campbell and Company has provided excellent service. We recently moved into a home with a 15+ year old gas fireplace that was quite dusty and didn't always run reliably. We chose Campbell & Company after the 1st place we contacted said our only option was to replace the fireplace & surround (at a cost of $5000-$10,000). C&C was very professional.
