We purchased the Angie's List $111 deal after doing a bunch of construction on a short sale. We knew that the system had not been maintained in at least a couple of years and we had generated a whole lot of dust with construction. We used Angie's list because we were looking for a long-term relationship with a company that would take care of us in the coming years with regular maintenance and having no pricing games. The friendly professionalism I experienced from the home office scheduling, phone time and actual work was terrific. Josh, our technician, took everything apart and then showed me what he was finding, how different parts work and the signs that parts are good shape and the ones that are in a later stage of their life cycle. I did not feel for one second that he was trying to do so in order to sell me on a maintenance package although it was part of what they offer when they come to your home. They way he handled himself was far more about allowing me make an educated decision on whether to take a risk of the parts going out or essentially insuring them to a degree. We actually like that they only do residential work...so their business isn't split. Given that all not all HVAC companies are created equal - we HIGHLY recommend BlackHills.

Financing and Cost: Let's face it. Heat pumps are not cheap. Financing was better than expected as they had their own provider (local credit union) that beat the home improvement credit service I had planned on using. We qualified for a PSE rebate also. Initial Consultation: Their estimator came on a Wednesday to inspect our old system (old heat pump was removed after vandalism years ago) and had everything set to go for a Friday install (just 2 days later). They have one big advantage over other companies in that they have their own in-house electricians so the install date was the actual date for the job to be completely done. David Griffis is one of the nicest, down to earth, estimators there is. My husband hates getting any company's quote as most companies have an "attitude" of talking as if you know nothing. Not so with this company. The Installation:There were three workers all together, including the electrician. They don't appear to be rushed or cutting corners. They were careful to check everything along the way as I was asking plenty of questions of what they were doing. NOTE: They are not bothered by these questions! What a nice plus for a company. An informed customer is a happier customer in my opinion. It turned out an outdoor potted planter needed to be moved and they took care of it. They crawled under the house and dealt with our MANY indoor cats as if nothing phases them. Heat Pump: The heat pump is a great one! A York with variable speed. It's always running on a very low fan and when It starts up, it is slow and builds to a level that is necessary. We're getting close to retirement and wanted something that would last and have some extra features to it to improve air quality since we have a dog and many cats (notice I'm not stating how many - that's how you know its over the legal limit). The Perks: My father had a lower quality heat pump installed about 5 years ago and they came out regularly to change his filters AND overcharge him for them. He would get so upset and he also couldn't figure out the thermostat. I couldn't figure it out either and my job involves computers and software. This company provides FREE filters for life. They come out every 6 months to drop them off by the door or put them in if you're home. PLUS for us, the installers gave an extra one so that we can change at 3 month intervals because of having so many pets! He told us to just ask for an extra one when they come out - at no extra cost to us. y iI asked why when other companies charge and was told it is their customer service policy to treat the customer well and that most of their jobs are on a referral basis. These filters look pretty fancy to me and I was told they cost a pretty penny if bought in a store. Overall impression: An excellent company with high standards within, highly trained workers, high quality products. The air quality is so much improved with the pump and ultra-violet filtration system that I cannot emphasize enough that this was the best purchases we've made.

After many quotes from other heating companies we decided to choose Black Hills. We were impressed with the price as it was significantly lower than the other bids. We were also impressed at the quality of furnace they were selling us as well. Some of the other companies were selling cheaper machines that were of lesser quality. From the minute we signed the agreement, everything went like clock work. The crew arrived on time at 8 AM and worked until after 6 PM. The job was extra big because they installed duck work through the attic, not fun for a couple of large guys and 90 degree temperatures. The crew was friendly and courteous. They wore plastic caps over their shoes and cleaned everything up as they went along. I can't say enough about this top notch company. Another perk is that they will come and change your furnace air filters every 6 months for free! Now that is service! Thanks Black Hills for an amazing experience! I am looking forward to being warm this winter!

My experience with them was very good. I have no complaints at all. He was very prompt and actually came a little early which was nice. He involved me in everything and asked me if I wanted this done and how much it would cost. He kept me in the loop the entire way. The price was good.

I was very impressed with every single person I dealt with at this company; from the person that answered the phone, the initial service person (Tim), the sales person (James); to the installers. They were professional, nice. and an absolute pleasure to deal with. I felt no concern whatsoever about not getting any other estimates. I saw the other good reviews on Angie's List, plus I had other people who had used them confirm how great they are. They sent a technician the same day we called; on Monday, 11/11/13. The part to fix our gas furnace would have been $300+. We had been told by Gas Works (another good company that only services, not installs heaters) that we were due anytime for a new heating system. The water heater was looking pretty sad too. Our house was built in 1996 and we've owned it since 1998. They gave us space heaters to use (even if we didn't go with them for the install). We weren't sure whether to spend the extra ($5k) to go from all gas to a heat pump, but ultimately was convinced by James in a very non-pressured way, that it would the best option for us. We went mid-range. Not the cheapest and not the most expensive. James was very clear about why Black Hills currently recommends York over some other brands that have gone downhill in quality in recent years. Every employee seemed to be exceptionally well trained and it is clear that the owner's idea of customer service is understood and implemented by his staff. We feel 100% confident that we chose the right company for this very important (and expensive for us) work.

Great experience from scheduling the estimate through installation.

I contacted the contractor in response to a mailing they had sent out. David came to the house as promised, and did a good job of checking the existing system to see what was needed to do what I wanted. He concluded he could do the job OK, but did not call my attention to the need for additional cold air return to handle the greater air flow that would be necessary for the 4 ton furnace fan needed to handle the 3.5 ton heat pump. This issue was mentioned by several other contractors who looked at the job. Most of the contractors I interviewed came up with prices that were within a few dollars of each of each other, and I would have been willing to give David the job after more discussion on the need for additional cold air return (which would add to his price) if he could have matched significantly lower prices I had from two other vendors, both of whom offered discounts that David did not offer.

Work was completed in one day. They removed the old gas furnace and cleaned the area so you could not teel were it had been. The duct modification was professional and the system has worked very well. All inspections were past the first time. They explained & showed how to use the new electronic thermostat. and also left us new CO detectors to make sure we complied with the new law.

The representative arrived as scheduled, cleaned the furnace and changed the filters as well and climbing in the crawl space to inspect the ductwork, etc. Was a very pleasant person to deal with and the whole transaction went well.

The technician was professional and friendly. He explained what he was doing and what the results meant. He cleaned up the furnace and heat pump as he went and it looked better than it has for years. He had reasonable recommendations and was not pushy with further service. I plan to use them in the future should the need arise.

The service was very good. I had purchased a big deal for the service and we used them a few days later. The guy that came seemed very knowledgeable, he was very polite and respectful.

First off I would like to thank Black Hills salesman David Griffis for being a true profesional and making me feel very comfortable in the estimate process. They installed two ductless heaters in approximatly 5 hours, the installers were very profesional and polite. Everything about this company was profesional and customer service oriented. I had questions regarding the permit process and calling City of Tacoma, they called for me and set up my appointment while I was on the phone. Great Company that worked with my wife and I very comfortably.

I contacted Black Hills and informed them of this and they didn't argue and sent their own tech out to check for leaks. They didn't find any and sent me a check for the $546 for reimbursement ! I would recommend them as they stand behind their work even though it cost them a large sum for their mistake. They were extremely pleasant throughout the whole ordeal.

David the sales person arrived the same day, I chose the system I wanted along with a $650.00 instant rebate from the power company and 2 days later the work began. The installation took 2 days because of improper installation of the previous system. New piping(the correct size) was installed, piping redirected,etc. Everyone at Black Hills is very prompt, professional, courteous,and went "the extra mile" to make sure I was satisfied. 4 days total(Monday the purchase,Thursday the system was up and running) The installers(I can't remember their names) both took great care not to damage any property, and left no mess behind. David called the following Monday to make sure everything was ok. I will use Black Hills again. Could I have found someone cheaper? yes. Could I have found someone better? NO.

I though the sales guy was kind of pushy, but we did buy from them anyhow. Their work was pretty good. Their installer people were very good, but we did have a couple of issues with the state inspection, so they needed to come back twice to fix things to satisfy the state. They did take care of them, though.

I would say it went very well. We called another company on the list, but they were unable to come out until the following week. Black Hills was our second call and they were able to come within two days and even ended up changing the appointment time to earlier. I don't know if because we mentioned we got their name from Angie's List, we got better service, but they certainly did everything right. This is our first time using a service from the list. It works!

Timely, professional and thorough service. We did however, get another bid and chose a different service provider based on product offerings and best value for our home.

I like Black Hills' equipment. I think their equipment is very solid, I had researched it pretty carefully. I think they have a good medium price on the furnace and heat pump. They were very organized when they came, although they left equipment at our house and it took them 2 weeks to come back and get it. I thought that was rather annoying. They did a good job where they actually had to effect the structure. Everything was neat, clean, and they knew what they were doing. Which I thought was very nice. They did not inspect the duct work, which I did not like at all, because then before going in we would have known it wasn't the furnace in need of repair it was the duct work that was in need of repair. In the end I had to pay a separate charge which I thought wasn't very good of them at all. I couldn't get them off the phone, it would have been better for them not to respond. I don't think I would use them again.

Every step of the way, from my initial phone conversation with the receptionist, to the meeting with Jeff Nugent the salesman/estimator to the installers was done in a very professional manner. Everyone concerned was clean, respectful and friendly. I will hire them in the future to install or service any of my heating/cooling needs. Thank you Black Hills.

While the cost was $5000, this included a very seriously needed replacement of my electric panel (Federal Pacific). I contacted the company to replace the filter (for free) and while there I asked if it was possible to check the condition of the 19yo furnace. As I suspected, it needed replacement. They were able to work with my work schedule and met with me following work 2 days later. David was very nice a personable, interested in me and once it was discovered that the electric panel was in serious need, he suggested I review a website about this particular panel. I checked other sites as well and became increasingly concerned about the safety of my home. I was never pressured to purchase. I cost was split evenly between the panel and the furnace. David kept in contact and the replacement was scheduled and completed a week later. I feel much safer and I'm very pleased with the service. Everyone was kind and listened - answering my questions when I knew very little about how these things all work... Thank you!

They are fabulous. I have a deal with them where I pay $30 a month. They would come as many times as I need them to come for whatever reason I need them to come. They also come for one big service in the fall or t he spring. I had something go wrong and it took them three visits to get it. They just didn’t send one of the regular check it out people, they sent a technician who crawled under the house, into the house and over the house and found out what was wrong. It was Christmas time. He took personal pride in doing a good job. I would appreciate it. They had to order the part. I didn’t have to pay anything because I had paid for their service. I like them and they are good. I can call them and ask them stuff. They will send somebody if I am twisted.

I was satisfied with the service Black Hills provided. Everything was uneventful which was great! I was happy with the price, professionalism, and punctuality. I will use them again in the future.

The installer was a great guy. He was professional. He came out on the same day and even answered my dumb questions. It was just one person. He did the whole job in one day. I am totally happy with Black Hills Inc. so far. Everything is working fine. There was a small leak in one of the hot water tanks, but he came right back out that day and took care of it. I have had no trouble so far, but it's pretty early to talk about it. I had estimates from three different companies. The guy from Black Hills was the only person who put coveralls and crawled under the house in the crawlspace to look at the ductwork and make sure that it was up to par. The quality of his work was excellent. I would use him again if I had something similar to do.
