I got an estimate from 2 moving companies and decided to go with A&E relocation services (even though their per pound price was higher) because I am disabled and they agreed to load and move on the same day. I researched everything and understood that I could be charged 25% more then the non-binding estimate if the weight was more than THEIR estimate. They came to my house and were aware of everything to be moved prior to the move date. There were a few issues like being really late etc but I wasn't upset about that. They loaded everything and we left Burien. My daughter, grandchildren and I drove to Spokane with all my animals and I got a message from the driver stating she was delayed. They got to the house and told me that their estimate was way off, that my boxes were "deceptively heavy" and that I needed to sign this "supplemental". I said I don't sign blank documents and she said that she would not start unloading until I signed it and said I understood I had to pay double the estimate. I started crying and said that I was told that I could only be charged 25% more than the estimate and they couldn't add charges at the destination. If there had been additional items, Washington state law says a supplemental must be signed PRIOR to loading the truck. She scowled at me and said "that's not the way it works". She stated legally they could charge 125% MORE than the estimate. I feel like I was scammed and it was definitely extortion. They knew that I was on disability and couldn't afford a truck at all but I am disabled and can't do it myself which is why I was moving to a cheaper area. She even told me she gave the office a lower weight to help me out (she estimated 6,000 pounds and had them write the estimate for 5,000 pounds then charged me for over 10,000 pounds) I know this can't be legal and I didn't know what to do. It was very late at night and I was in excruciating pain and needed to get to bed. I even had to have them put most of my stuff in the garage because after I was upset they banged stuff on my walls and complained loudly, the guy was coming down the ramp of the truck and fell off taking the wheeled cart with him crushing fragile things. After finding out he was ok I asked what it was and they said clothes, which confirmed their dishonesty for me. (plus they left cigarette butts on my property) and I told my daughter that I didn't want them coming in anymore because they kept damaging the property and acting like it was no big deal. After they left my daughter found many items marked fragile under heavy boxes marked books and my cherry wood full length mirror was broken beyond repair (wood in 3 places) and the glass was put in my outside garbage and the mirror was put in the garage in a fashion that we wouldn't see it until after they were gone. Many items that were supposed to be wrapped in furniture blankets were damaged. After promising my items would arrive intact, her response to the damage I saw immediately (parrot cages /playstand) I was told to "claim it". This was the worst moving experience in my life. I had a moving company move me from California for less and my items were all intact. I was quoted $2,259.57 but after loading the truck, driving to my new home, they charged my credit card $4299.97 (after originally saying it $4600 but I was getting a 5% discount)

Response from A&E Relocation Services
To Whom It May Concern; We have received [Member Name Removed] [Member Information Removed] complaint and appreciate the opportunity to respond. [Member Name Removed] had requested an estimate for services. On October 16, 2017, a survey was conducted by Joy, who also happened to be the lead driver for this customer'[Member Information Removed] move. Joy'[Member Information Removed] visual survey/estimate was 5,000 pounds. We also used a pre-set software that estimates the weight off this visual survey. It calculates the number of cartons and the weight of the furniture. The software estimated a weight of 5,200 pounds. Please note: The customer had packed her own belongings into cartons and totes. These were not available for us to view the actual contents. Upon arrival on load date, October 30, 2017, Joy (who had performed the visual survey on October 16, 2017), noticed, and had an in-depth conversation with the customer. Joy informed [Member Name Removed] that there were more items to load/transport than were present upon the initial survey. It was explained that the additional items and weight would increase the cost of the move. The customer acknowledged this at origin: that she added her daughter and grandchild to the move, and was aware that this was a non-binding estimate. Meaning the customer would be charged and billed on the actual weight and services requested and performed. The customer was advised she would be presented with a supplemental to sign for these additional charges. She said "it is what it is" and she still needs to move due to a domestic issue. With her consent, we continued with the move. The customer added 976.5 cubes, this is an additional 6,835 pounds with her daughter'[Member Information Removed] and grandchild'[Member Information Removed] household goods. Other assorted items were added since the survey date as well, including: a granite top desk, 4 baskets, a Christmas Tree stand, a step ladder, a step stool, a sleeping bag, a yoga mat, a suitcase, 2 folding chairs, a walker, and a dish washer. The customer changed the scope of her move with these additional items and additional weight. As this is a weight based job, Joy could not have completed the supplemental addendum until the actual weight was obtained. The customer was presented with the weight tickets and the addendum first thing upon arrival at the destination residence. The customer again acknowledged and accepted the charges. We have made attempts to follow up with the customer, including responding to her complaints and reviews posted on other social media platforms. However, [Member Name Removed] has been unresponsive to email, and her phone was disconnected when we attempted to call it. We sincerely apologize that the customer was not satisfied with the services that were received and wish we would have been given the opportunity to address the customer'[Member Information Removed] concerns directly. Both our industry state-regulated review board and Visa have both sided with A&E Relocation Services. Thank you for your time.

The packers in Olympia did a fantastic job but after that it was a nightmare. When the rookie driver ( I don't think I would have a rookie carry a seventeen thousand dollar load cross country for his first cross country trip) he had 3 movers join him around 2:00 pm. He was afraid to drive the truck to the front of the apartment where an elevator was easy access so parked up the street. ( he was told other eighty foot trucks have parked in front, but he was afraid to try it) So, they started unloading, putting boxes into personal trucks to drive to elevators, and using dollies to take things up one floor to apartment or the two garages we rented. Noticing this was taking a long time, I asked the driver how long they would work , he informed me they HAD to get everything off the truck that evening as he was heading north the next day for another job. I started carrying boxes myself to help out. Notice, I had both knees replaced and a shoulder replaced less than eight months prior to this and was carrying end tables, boxes, etc myself. In tears, I, called husband home from work, and he started pulling boxes off the truck himself. A half hour later, the maintenance man from my husband' s place of work, my son, and his girlfriend, showed up and was amazed at the slowness and unprofessional ism of the guys. My son, his girlfriend, and the maintenance man started taking loads to the apartment and to the garage just to get things off the truck as the driver stands and folds blankets instead of helping. Now it is dark and as was PREARRANGED with A and E, part of the load was to go to a storage unit. Again, driver afraid to bring truck up to unit and was SHAMED by maintenance man who was former driver, to get it closer as we had all been working for over five hours doing THEIR job! The furniture was stacked randomly, dining room chairs without protection on top of a barbecue, broken furniture, scratched cherry Wood pieces, etc..... Now it is after 11:00 pm and they need to return to apartment to do paper work and take a couple boxes, like clothes that we didn't want to pick up storage unit smell, food, etc.. Again, slow process emptying the last items, and It is 1:30 am when they finish! Or should I say, WE finished! No beds assembled as was in the contract. Hoping to at least get an apology from A and E, they denied they did anything wrong. "You signed a contract to have furniture delivered, and we delivered it," was their response. They only said to file the usual damage of belongings sheet. All I asked for was maybe a twenty percent reimbursement. After all, we had 5 extra people doing their job until wee hours of the morning.. To top it all off, the next week we had to hire a local moving company, which were professional and efficient, to take all the boxes from the storage unit to one of our two garages. Another expense...on top of that seventeen thousand dollar job! The owner didn't take responsibility or the manager. The manager did say, in hindsight, they should have made arrangements to come back and unload the following day! DO NOT use this company. Customer service and satisfaction is NOT their priority. They got their money and that was all that mattered.

Response from A&E Relocation Services
Moving is one of life’s biggest stressors. We strive to insure our customers are satisfied with our service every step of the way. This move was challenging on several points and we worked with our customer and the crews to insure that everything went smoothly. When A&E Relocations initially picked up the shipment we were told that all 21,000 pounds were to be delivered from storage at origin to a single destination. The customer called prior to commencement of the move and asked that we separate out portions of the shipment for a second start. The customer sent a list of items that she wanted delivered into a mini-storage and our crews spent hours, at no additional charge to organize the 21,000 pound shipment into 2 different deliveries; one for the apartment and one for the mini storage. Warehouse handling charges are customarily assessed in these instances but we performed these services at no additional charge as a customer service gesture. When our driver arrived at destination he discovered that access was difficult. It is our policy to trust a driver’s judgment as to what he can safely access the location without damage to the property, our vehicle and surrounding vehicles. This driver was hauling a 53’ trailer behind his large semi tractor. The apartment at destination was a narrow driveway off of 2 tight corners surrounded by landscaping and curbs. The driveway following the 2nd turn was lined on both sides by vehicles which was narrow and would also have forced the driver to move the truck each time a resident wanted to leave. Pulling straight in as the customer suggested would have blocked one lane of the properties exit and the exit to a parking garage. Due to these issues the truck was parked at the road and the items carried around the building, up an elevator and down a long hallway. Drivers perform long carry deliveries out of necessity. We have no advance knowledge of what the locations at destination look like and try our very best to be accommodating under all situations and circumstances. Despite these circumstances our crew worked diligently in temperatures exceeding 90 degrees until the job was completed to insure that the customer had their belongings and that the customer the following day also had a timely delivery. Regarding the delivery to the mini-storage this was done at the customers request; we would have been happy to delivery into an on-site garage had that option been made available to us on the day of delivery. We are unsure why this was a complaint lodged against our company as we were following the customers’ request. The customer who had a delivery the next day with 3 of the same crew submitted the following comment: “Well Saturday was a long day because it was hot here but the loading went smoothly and the loaders worked very hard all day long and right up to when we finished at 9:15 at night. They were all a pleasure to have this team loading us.” The claim for damage incurred during the move will be handled by the claims department. The claims process includes an inspection and repairs by a professional repair firm. The [member name removed] have been sent both a claim form and on-line filing instructions via email to both email addresses on file. We realize that moving can be an extremely stressful time and despite everyone’s best intentions to provide a superior standard of service, we occasionally experience an incident that can undo all of the good work done by the many people involved in a move. Our office spoke to the customer throughout the move and apologized for the inconvenience and we apologize again that the delivery of this large shipment took so long and into the night. Please accept our best wishes as you settle into your new surroundings.

My move kept getting postponed and they were excellent at working with me until there was a firm date. 3 movers and 2 trucks arrived on time. Loaded all packed boxes and furniture on vans. Unloaded everything from both trucks into house, garage and shed. I was exhausted and they were more than kind to me. Cheerfully put everything where I wanted .Very careful not to damage either of the houses and my belongings!! Everyone I dealt with was professional and I felt like a valued customer.
