Amazingly incompetent and/or devious! Step 1 on 7-29 Project Manager Bob Paz completed a Roof Replacement Description & Data Sheets. I then presented my first check. Step 2 Materials and a crew arrive and install a roof. I notice that the Shingle Shield defined on the detail sheet is not on the roof. I decline payment. Now some more waiting. Step 3 A crew arrives. Shows a document that they are to install Shingle Shield. (Note that this is a RETROFIT to a 'completed' roof). They "finish' and request a check. I check the roof and they have installed 'Atomic 30'. They did not get a check. Now some more waiting. Step 4a A crew arrives to rip off the 'Atomic 30' & install Shingle Shield. This time I stand by to observe their activity. They run out of material and depart to return tomorrow. [the crew had a cement gun on the roof. Step 4b The crew arrives and tears off the remaining 'Atomic 30'and 'completes' installing the Shingle shield. the crew did not have a cement gun on the roof. Step 5 The President of Polar Bear & a staffer come to get their money. The RETROFITS, the missing cement gun, the lack of cleanup, the rearrangement of the items originally on my back porch, my concern of the integrity of my now not so new roof, it was explained that Bob Paz (salesman) was given the Project Manager title to make him happy, I was offered the opportunity to get up on the roof [I'm an 84 year old retired Industrial Engineer],... and if they didn't get a check from me a lawsuit would be forthcoming. This has been the most disgusting business transaction of my life! Sorry for my delayed response, I've put off dealing with this unpleasant topic.
Description of Work: On 7/31 they received $7,939 to initiate my new roof. On 10/21 they received $7,939 on "completion" because a lawsuit could have increased my cost.

Mr [member name removed], We installed a quality roof on your home in full accordance with industry best practices. Furthermore, the roof met all manufacturer requirements to come with an extended 50 year non-prorated warranty covering all materials and labor. We are able to offer this warranty because we have achieved the certification as a Select ShingleMaster installer from one of the largest roofing manufacturers in the world... and in holding this status, we are in the TOP 1% of ROOFING CONTRACTORS IN THE STATE. We earned this distinction through a track record of quality work, ongoing training and thousands of satisfied customers. If is unfortunate that we weren't able to please you. Everything was installed and completed per contract. We did not ask for final payment until we went above and beyond in our obligations to you and your project. As with all of our customers, we stand by our products and our workmanship and will be ready to promptly address any service issues should they ever arise.

The sales team was elbow shattering, could not get them out of my house. I guess that was my fault for letting my spouse invite them in. The deck negotiations started at $25K and I wanted to pay under $10K. We ended up paying $15K. The actual deck creation guy was very professional and knowledgeable - he did a very nice job. The crew that came to demolish what was left of the deck - we did 80% of the removal - were loud, smoking, obnoxious gentlemen who caught the eyes and ears of the neighbors. The owner showed up the last day and gave us a 50% off coupon if we decide to do windows in the next year. The building process took 3 days. I am satisfied with the outcome but I may have been satisfied with a deck half the price from another company as I don't plan on living in the house another 20 years. It's a wash. Would I use the window coupon? Maybe - if I don't get a better bid from a better reputed company. They should have done a call back two weeks after completion. There are a few pickups that we decided wasn't worth setting up another appointment for. If they would have returned I would have given them a small p/u list.

Thank you for your feedback, we are constantly struggling to improve. Decks are unique in that there can be a wide range of options that we can do, which means price ranges can be wide as well. We do not cut corners in any of our installs, so we do not build "cheap" decks, but we do offer a variety of materials and styles that can complicate the decision making process. We apologize about our guys being loud on the job-site. Finding the best installers in the industry to join our team is is a constant task and we have high standards for who we employ. It is after all construction, and talented craftsmen and skilled carpenters can sometimes be a little brash and noisy. We appreciate your feedback and we will continue to improve not only the quality of our work, but the experience our customers and their neighbors have while we are performing our installations.

I was satisfied with their product but I feel like it was overpriced. It seemed like they tried to sell me extra stuff and they were very efficient and clean when they actually did the work. Thank you very much for choosing us to do your window project. We apologize about the length of time it took to get the job completed. Unfortunately with window replacement, every window must be custom ordered from the manufacturer...and with a big project like yours it can take up to a month when considering that along with the measure and confirmation process, as well as shipping and delivery. Furthermore our install department is trained to do the job correctly, not quickly. However, we will do what we can to improve and try satisfy both of those goals. We very much appreciate your business and your feedback. We are glad you are please with the final project and we will constantly continue to improve.

My original review was not that good. Since then, after talking with the owner and listening to his sincere apology, we gave them another chance and had two more windows installed. I'm convinced that ours was one of those times we all have where everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. They have made some personnel changes, which were the cause of some of the difficulties we had with "the ball being dropped" and some follow-up issues. The owner came out and personally apologized and asked for one more chance to show that they could, and do, take customer service seriously. My father got hurt and is in the hospital, and they were very accommodating in adjusting the install dates, etc. I am now able to say that they did an outstanding job and were/are very concerned with satisfying the customer. My old review is below, and I can honestly say that our subsequent experience was 180 degrees from the first experience. I would now recommend their service. The windows are great, and the prices were good. Like most people, I normally would not bother or take the time to re-write the review, or bother with giving them a second chance, but they worked so hard at making sure we were satisfied, that I couldn't, in good conscience, let the older and negative review stand. I can now say that we are very satisfied. If you should decide to use them, and something is not to your satisfaction, I would advise that you give Nate Harrington a call and he will make sure that nothing falls through the cracks, and that your satisfaction is complete. (To be honest we were not that thrilled. The workmanship and installation of the windows was fine, but I had trouble getting dates. Things kept getting delayed because they forgot to place orders. When the orders came stuff was missing. Between the time their two salesmen came out to do a presentation to completion, every single communication was initiated by us. They did not call us once about anything. There was no communication from them to us other than making the sale. Once the sale was made they forgot us. I told them this.)

Polar Bear started about one week earlier than they had estimated, and had the job completed in four days. One cannot complain about a contractor that is faster than expected. This was a big roofing job because it included conversion from torchdown gutters. When polar bear noticed some rotten timbers, they immediately replaced them, too. Polar Bear had a large crew and they worked long hours to get the job done soon. Polar Bear kept us well informed of the progress. We have a beautiful new roof. In the month after our new roof was installed, we had many days of heavy rain. Yes this is the Seattle area, but this was unusual heavy rainfall even for here. Our new gutters worked wonderfully well. Or course the roof did not leak. We are very pleased with Polar Bear Energy Solutions.

When the two gentlemen came for the quote, they sat with my husband and I for approx 5 hours where we learned about every piece of material, why they use it and what other people use. They answered every question about warranty, installation and their product that you could possibly imagine. Basically the quality has to be there to offer such a long warranty. Once we decided to go ahead with this company they said they would likely start 10 to 14 days later. They came out to take final measurements and were started on the job only 6 days later. They began on a Thurs and finished on Sat. The roof flashing was not as we expected it and it was mentioned prior to them leaving and someone was out Monday to fix it and put on the final touches. They cleaned out the gutters and picked up the yard and decks as best they could. There is expected clean up inside and out after such a big job but overall the quality of roof that was installed should be the last roof we should ever need to buy. We are very please with the finishing look of the roof and skylights and they even found some plywood that didn't need replacing which saved us some money in the end.

Our overall feeling about the experience with Polar Bear Solutions is that they were inexperienced in the whole construction field. They were very pleasant to do business with, but seemed overwhelmed with the details of our renovation. Their contractor was competent but was either overwhelmed by the work that Polar Bear management was assigning to him, or perhaps just didn't care about finishing our job on time. We were promised completion in approximately 2 weeks, and it ended up being two months - all thru the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. I don't think I would recommend this firm for any construction jobs. They could be excellent with windows, but not so much with more extensive home remodeling/renovation jobs.

Hi [member name removed], Thanks for your review. We apologize that the project took longer than we had anticipated, often times with remodels that is the case. There are many unforeseen things that can drag a project out, especially when doing remodels, which requires dealing with different vendors and contractors. For example, we have to wait for the cabinets to be done before we order the granite; we have to wait for the granite in order to get the hardware, etc. We have realized that remodels are not our strong suit and have been sticking to what we are best at - windows, solar, roofing, decks, and siding. We appreciate your business and were happy to see that you were pleased during the final walk through with the finished product. Please know that should you ever have any issues or concerns with the work we did, we will be here for you now and in the future. Thanks again, [member name removed].

Polar Bear's representative offered a $25 gas gift card in exchange for allowing them to bid on a job to replace a 14 year old cedar shake roof. The offer made me feel that the time would not be wasted. I was favorably impressed with the presentation, particularly with its attention to detail. The Polar Bear representative explained why his company is dedicated to top quality work,, and went into detail to about what that meant. He discussed each step of the reroofing job, from stripping the original shakes, to re-sheathing the roof, to underlayment, shingling and finish steps. He had samples of the various materials involved, and explained why each was top quality. The bottom line was that the company was offering a premium quality re-roofing job, with a 50 year non-prorated guarantee. I felt that the price we negotiated was pretty much in line with two other reroofing jobs that had been completed recently on our street. While I was paying substantially more, my roof is far larger and cut-up than those of my neighbors. The combination of price and quality seemed attractive. The work crew appeared the following Monday, and the job was entirely complete a week later. While the crew was often only three men, and the progress often slow, I was very favorably impressed with the attitude of the workmen. They were obviously very eager to please me, consulted often about my preferences for storage and cleanup, and were visibly proud of the high standards this job was meeting. The single time I noticed a defect (one partial row of shingles was incorrectly offfset), they hurried to remove and replace the shingles in question. Upon completion, they showed me many pictures taken from above, showing the work close-up. I am very happy with the look of the new roof, and have had many positive comments from friends and neighbors. Therefore, I can warmly recommend Polar Bear for similar work.

First of all we knew this was going to be a different type awning built than most you have done. Communication between employees involved was not good. A measurement was taken at LEAST 3 times (WHY?) and was not thought out well for appropriate materials needed to do the job. Probably 2 good full days wasted going back & forth to get correct materials Salesperson present a fair price/knowledgeable? Salesperson appeared to know what was wanted but somehow brochure for patio showing colors we wanted and basic pattern disappeared and he didn't call back on some occasions when problems came up. Informed about decision we made? Still not clear on what material was bought in "bulk" to reduce the price NOW. Patio roofing? All other material is readily handy. Informed about decision made? Was real difficult getting through peoples head what we wanted. It took some pushing to get them to understand that we wanted a gable roof style high enough to keep our view of backyard from kitchen. Jim did an outstanding job on the whole project. He was new to the company at that point. He left the company not long after finishing our project due to unprofessionalism and being very unorganized. Did crew arrive on time and work in a professional matter? See last line of comment above about Jim. Overall we ended up with a product much better than we expected. Went through some hurdles with them, but is usual with contractors. A great aspect about them is that they provide financing.

Hi [member name removed], Thank you for your review and feedback. We are thrilled that you are happy with the overall look of your new deck and awning. We do apologize for the misunderstanding regarding the gable roof but we are very happy that we were able to come to a meeting of the minds to get the project to your liking. We recognize that the plans and designs changed a few times, and that was just a part of us trying to come up with the best completed project in the end. Our motto is "measure twice, cut once." Unfortunately, sometimes we have to measure 3 or 4 times to get the project done right. Thanks again for your review and please let us know if you need anything else.
