Response from Polar Bear Exterior Solutions, Inc
[Member name removed], I would like to apologize again about the miscommunication regarding your project and the estimate we left you. When we initially spoke back in July, I had explained that I was partially at fault regarding the mistake we made in pricing your job. Insulation work, especially in crawl spaces, can be tough to estimate because it can be difficult to fully see and access all parts of the home, and sometimes once we get into doing the removal we find more work than we initially planned for. As you recall, you were on a time crunch that day, so my estimator left you a bid based on the full footprint of your home (if that was what was needed). There was also more extensive removal/cleanup and duct work included in that bid than we probably would have needed to do, however we like to prevent surprises so we left you with an estimate for a worst case scenario. Had we had more time to fully examine your project and get a more detailed estimate, we might have been able to get a more accurate measure (as some of your home didn't need insulation under it) and we also could have inspected the existing insulation better to see how much more involved the work would really be. We have established prices for all of the projects we do based on every possible option and upgrade a homeowner might want based off of square footage, and for some types of projects, even down to the inch. Every time we contract with a homeowner, a secondary measurement is done by the install department and if a mistake was made in pricing the job, the contract is adjusted to the benefit of the customer. We do that not only because it is the law, but because it is the right thing to do...and if we didn't do it we wouldn't deserve to be in business long. We also like to prevent surprising our customers with extra charges at the end of the job, so we are very clear upfront about what unforeseen issues we might run into, so they can prepare and budget for them, should they arise. Many less reputable contractors often leave this stuff out of their bids so their price appears lower and they get the job, and then they surprise the customer with up-charges after they have already committed and work has begun. All of us here at Polar Bear want to work for a company that we are proud of. When Justin and myself started this business, it was very important to us that honesty, integrity and transparency are at the forefront of everything we do. We sincerely apologize about this problem we had with your estimate and any distress it may have caused you. Thank you for your initial consideration in us and giving us an opportunity to earn your business, and also for pointing out this mistake we made so we can learn and better serve our customers in the future.
