Darrel came to the house and investigated where rats & mice might be entering the crawlspace. He found at least two places that the previous company had missed, and a couple of other guys came and sealed them up. Pest Free came back a few times to check traps and remove critters until there was no more activity. I liked Darrel and Angel the best. Some of the other crew members didn't seem as experienced or thorough. At some point I'll probably have Pest Free clean out the crawlspace and reinstall insulation.

We had rodents traveling in our walls and called Pest Free to help us deal with the problem. They looked around the interior and exterior of the house and identified the point of entry. They did not block the hole, however. We had to do that ourselves. The rep did set traps in the crawl space and attic to catch the roaming mice. These were effective as we found three mice. They came back a few weeks later and the traps were empty and our problem was resolved.
Description of Work: Pest Free identified the source of entry of the rodents and placed traps in the crawl space and attic. They came back a few weeks later to verify and reset traps.

I’m just not happy about not getting a call. I’ve actually called three times. I called once before Thanksgiving and she said they were busy. I asked that they call me after the holiday.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for $75 for Complete Attic & Crawl Space Insulation Evaluation. The young lady was very kind. Her technician was out in the field and was supposed to give me a call when he got back into the office. I’ve gone through this twice. I understand if they are overwhelmed, I would just like to get a courtesy call back saying they are running behind. I was not asking for an immediate appointment, but at the first of January, we are going out of town, and I wanted to get this taken care of. I purchased this on 11/16, and I think I have been reasonable.

We were able to get a hold of the customer today and apologized for the delay. We have been swamped and are trying our best. We were able to schedule a time for the work to be done. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Life happens, and next thing I know, I have an email from Angie's list asking for this review. Yes, I could call and hassle them, and probably will. BUT--the reason I have Angie's list in the first place is to void such hassles. I'm incredibly disappointed in both companies at this point. And any critters hoping to find shelter in my attic are likely already in place. Removal is an extra fee, of course....
Description of Work: I decided to indicate a date of service, since this was required. In fact this was the date, I purchased the Angies's list "Big Deal" for a Rodent Exclusion package from this company. When I called to schedule, was to told that they were really swamped due to the offer, and couldn't schedule me. They said that, in fact, they didn't have my info from Angie's list yet, and would call ME when they received it. The person I spoke to was adamant that I shouldn't call back later, but instead wait to hear from them.... I left my number, and wondered if I was being suckered.

The representative was prompt, courteous and knowledgable. He was efficient yet did not rush the inspection. He fully explaned what he had done and his recommendations for future actions. It was an very good experience and I will hire them again for any future work.
Description of Work: We have had mice in the past and set up exterior traps. Although I inspected the crawl space and sealed some loose vent screens we wanted to make sure no other entry points were missed. I purchased the Angies deal to have Pest Free do the inspection and any corrective action. The representative did a thorough inspection. He found a couple of openings around pipes exiting the foundation and sealed them, He found no evidence of recent pest activity but there was some insualtion damage from past invasions. He said the damage was minor and could be fixed in the future.

The technician was onsite for about 2 hours in which time he sealed all entrances in the crawlspace foundation and furnace room (gaps around the vent piping, etc). A month later and everything seems great so far!
Description of Work: Pest Free did a great job of rodent exclusion (blocking entrances to prevent rodent incursion) in my crawlspace and furnace room. Exactly what I have wanted, but most Pest companies only want to place traps, etc, not work to solve the underlying problems.

re big deal - our foundation and crawlspace were inspected and openings closed up. After the initial inspection we went ahead and had Pest Free renovate our crawlspace. The crew arrived in the morning, removed all of the old insulation and mess, checked that our ductwork was all connected, installed new vapor barrier and new insulation. At the end of the day, we had a well-insulated crawlspace and they hauled off all of the old material. The crew was great and even took pictures for us of the before and after.
Description of Work: Crawl space and foundation inspected and openings closed per the Big Deal. Because of problem we opted for a year of quarterly inspections. Because the old insulation had been pulled down by rodents and was in poor condition, we had Pest Free remove the old and install new.

They came out, inspected & filled in some holes where rats were possibly coming into my attic. They up-sold us, recommending new insulation. Just to do the new insulation was over $4000.00 – We didn’t take advantage at that time. The guy who came out was very professional, prompt, & spent a lot of time with us explaining things. However, I still have rats so I’m not sure how effective the treatment was.

Jason was punctual. Price seemed a little high but it ended our rodent issue and that was a plus. The only issue I had was that the foam he used to seal any holes was a bright orange and really showed up against the paint color of our home. We had to go around and chip off the excess that was visible. Other than that he did a really good job.
Description of Work: Jason was very punctual and did an okay job explaining what he would be doing. He checked areas where the could be a possibility of intrusion. This included the attic area, moving the tiles from the dropped ceiling and checking those areas (I did have to point this out to him) as well as the garage and perimeter of the house. Every area were intrusion might be possible was filled in.

Our contract was for initial service plus six additional services in the year. Services were to be performed inside (including under the main floor of our home) and to the exterior of our house and at various points on our property. Their policy is advise you of proposed next service date and time by email announcement. They will adjust the selected date if you contact them sufficiently in advance. I'm not satisfied with the service date selection by announcement rather than active collaboration. They feel this method is necessary to efficiently utilize their service crews in the area serviced. There are two unforgivable problems: (1.) Once a date and time convenient to us and them has been established and we altered our activities to be present, their personnel have been late, failed to appear at all or came on an earlier date without prior coordination. PestFree advises that the resident doesn't need to be present, but we found that our presence was needed to insure that the complete and necessary service was performed. (2.) The worst business (or non-business) practice occurred when we called to speak to managers or supervisors. None was ever available the two times I asked to discuss these problems and none returned my calls which were made a week apart. I have discontinued trying to make contact and I am considering my options to terminate the contract. This company is very adept at signing you to a contract. In fairness, the service personnel who have come after the initial contract meeting have been courteous, respectful and appeared to be competent. I can not assess their professional services due to their specialization. The technicians do not appear to be involved in the scheduling fiascos (they are victims like us we believe), nor the unresponsiveness of the company managers.
Description of Work: At the time the services contract is established an inspection of the house and property is performed to define problems and proposed solutions. An initial service is performed which involves applying various pest treatments in and under the house, to the house exterior and on the property grounds. During the initial service pest traps are distributed inside and outside the house. PestFree offered to assess pest damage and prepare a damage repair cost estimate to be determined at a separate appointment which we agreed to. The contract includes six followup treatments over the following year.

Angel from Pest Free came out with his partner about 20 minutes earlier than scheduled, which wasn't a problem. They quickly and professionally taped up all high-traffic areas and got to work air sealing and vacuuming. I had been up in the attic a lot to perform electrical work and do some air sealing, so I knew how long it should take to move around and do a good job. He asked if another company had been out to perform some of the work. I said I had done some of it, but I wanted a pro to do everything and finish up for me. Over the next 6.5 hours, Angel vacuumed out an unbelievable amount of rat poop, air-sealed all cracks, installed new baffles (and showed pictures from his phone to provide proof if I needed it), and then blew in what had to be at least R49. The specs for the brand of insulation they were using showed 17.5 inches were required for R49, but Angel blew in probably at least an inch more than that. He allowed me to inspect the work afterwards (unbelievably clean and professional job) and was clean, thorough, fast, and friendly throughout. Pest Free should advertise their insulation work more - as I couldn't even find any mention of insulation services on their website. This experience really couldn't have gone much better. Great job to Angel and to Pest Free. Very highly recommended. *Update for work performed approx 11/30/2012. After the insulation job, I noticed that on cold days the edges of some of the ceilings were dripping wet with moisture. At first I thought I had a roof leak, but I realized it was around all of the edges of the roof all around the house (I also have a steel roof, making a leak unlikely). I speculated that not enough insulation was blown in around the edges so I called Pest Free and told them of the problem. They sent Angel back and he went back up the attic and showed me there definitely was insulation to the edges. but because of the roof height, less of it was at the edges vs. the middle. He then suggested he would manually fill-in the edges with traditional insulation. He came back a week later, put in the additional insulation, blew back more insulation where it was compressed, and we haven't had a problem since. I would give them 10 stars if possible.
Description of Work: I originally had Pest Free come out for a rodent exclusion package where they also provided me a quote to perform attic insulation services. I was a bit surprised since I hadn't expected insulation services from an exterminator-type company, but I asked for a quote anyway for insulating fiberglass blow-in in about 1300 sf of attic space. I had called around for basic quotes and knew roughly what to expect, but Doug from Pest Free gave me a great quote that included vacuuming all the rat poop in the attic, installing new baffles, air-sealing, and then blowing in R-49 worth of insulation. In this case, I gave Pest Free the edge since I figured they would really know all the nooks and crannies of where rat poop would be in the attic, not to mention their overall quote was very competitive. I told them I would call them out in a few months to perform the work, and as promised, I called them to schedule the work approximately 5 months after the quote.

Doug from Pest Free came out right on time (although he apparently doesn't do this type of field service often), and walked around the house with me. He answered any questions I had, and gave some suggestions on how to prevent rodent problems in the future. He also crawled up into my attic and verified that they had probably come in through a hole in one of my gable vents and sealed it up. Later I was able to inspect his work and it looked like the screen was properly repaired as he promised. He suggested a couple of rodent prevention services they offered and I told him I would consider them. We also talked about attic insulation, since there was no insulation anywhere in the whole house and asked if I was interested in an insulation quote as well. I said to please go ahead and send me an estimate for insulating the attic to R-49, though it would be a long while before I would be ready to pull the trigger on the insulation. Overall, a solid experience.
Description of Work: The piece of crap house I bought previously had rats. Lots and lots of rats. I started to demo some of the floors and walls (not to mention the horrible stench coming from the garage) and that's when I discovered an unbelievable quantity of rat poop. Everywhere. After starting to clean everything up, I gave the whole house a top to bottom inspection to see where they had previously been coming in from and was fairly confident I identified potential problem areas. For good measure, I wanted a professional opinion so I bought a pest exclusion package from PestFree, which was offering a special on AngiesList.

Looking at feedback from others and my original gut feel I believe that Pest Free has all of the components to be a great company. Over the past six months that I have been under contract with them I have repeatedly ran into issues. Most of these issues were due to poor or no communication at the office. First Visit 1. Tech showed up 30 minutes before the scheduled appointment 2. When requesting the service I was unsure if I wanted a onetime visit or a year contract. I asked to get an assessment BEFORE deciding. The tech showed up with a 1 year contract that was incorrectly filled out. 3. After the tech completed his work I asked about the carpenter ants. He told me that he did not see any. At a later date we confirmed the end of the house was covered with them. Second Visit 1. Since I was still finding pests in the home I asked for an interior coverage again. The office told me that they would have to talk to the tech and would call me back. After two days of waiting I had to call in to make a new appointment. PestFree did not call me as committed. 2. Tech was 20 minutes early with no advance phone call as I asked for. I need the call so I can get to the door. I have limited mobility. I was told that the tech did not get the message. Third Visit 1. Tech showed up on time with an advanced phone call. Carpenter ant source was found and it looked like they were stopped. I was VERY HAPPY with this call. Office Communication 1. During my conversation with Doug I was asked if I wanted to keep a credit card on file for payment. I agreed and issued my account. Last week I received a Past Due statement. When I called in before 5:00 I left a voice mail explaining that I was not happy and that I needed a return call. After two days I called back in. In speaking with Doug I confirmed that, yes, they did have the credit card on file. I asked about closing my account and was sent to Cameron. Cameron confirmed that Doug ran the charge through while we were on the call. 2. After looking at the invoice I noticed there was finance charge. I called. Cameron back and asked about the charge. He insisted that I was NOT charged a finance charge and that he would send me a complete accounting print out along with a contract cancellation. The next day I did receive an email from Cameron stating that there was a finance charge and that it had since been credited. 3. The last communication came from Cameron. - He corrected the finance charge. He stating: "We had done away with finance charges but I guess it wasn?t until after yours hit." - Cameron confirmed that the account had been cancelled. - Cameron also explained that there have been changes in the office: "We hired four new office staff this summer and they have shown great progress but we are still training and have some areas to work on. This time next year we should be running like a well-oiled machine. " As I mentioned above, I do think PestFree has what it takes to be a great company. Based on the feedback from others I would have to say that they know how to get to that service level. Once we started out on a miss step it the service just was not there. It is my hope that they do become a well-oiled machine as Cameron mentioned.
Description of Work: Spray both inside and outside to stop pests from entering the home. At the time of the first call I explained there were carpenter ants that needed attention. I would decide if I wanted one visit or a year contract after the tech did the assesment.

Our Kirkland office is open from 8:00 AM to 6:00PM welcoming calls and making calls all day. Throughout the summer our office phones do get extremely active, however we always have someone manning the phones, returning, making calls and scheduling appointments; no one is unattended to. Our technicians do have numerous services throughout the day, which may be spread apart on occasion, so we emphasize that our customers allow a window of about an hour within the service time as indicated in all our emailed service notifications. Our one time services run a little higher depending on the service, which is one reason we advise signing a one year agreement which offers free call back services as well as additional discounts; second, it’s imperative to have multiple services in order to maintain a protective shield around your home. All of our products degrade over time, as per federal regulation. All our technicians are experienced in the field and evaluations are not absolute and conditions may alter over time. When call backs are requested, our technicians contact the customer as quickly as possible; it is policy that we return callback requests with a call directly from the technician within 24 hours of placing the request and is policy to complete the work requested no later than the first Monday following the request; if a customer can not be reached by the technician the office will always attempt to contact as well. The vast majority of our customers prefer to keep a credit card on file in order to automatically bill their services, nevertheless cards can expire and situations will arise but we make it our goal to work with all customer situations to the best of our ability on a per situation basis doing whatever possible to rectify any problems and fix them whenever possible. If ever a problem with a credit card we always work through the problem while on the phone with the customer so if any setbacks arise they can be fixed while on the line with the customer. Our first priority is our customers, and we always strive to provide the very best customer service possible and the most effective treatments possible.

It all went very smoothly. If you do this kind of work through Pest Free, you want to try to get Angel's crew for your job. I've never seen two guys work that hard. They did the entire job in about 28 man hours. They were very careful with the house interior when dragging their vacuum hoses and screened the rest of the house from airborne debris with plastic sheeting. When they left, they took all the debris from the attic and crawlspace with them and cleaned up the yard where their equipment had been sitting. There are no huge dents in the yard from the equipment (a problem I have had at a different house). All in all, their performance was above and beyond the norm. I inspected both the attic and crawlspace and each phase of the work and am satisfied with the quality of the work. The job was, perhaps, a bit expensive, but we feel we were well served. The force of air through the repaired heating ducts is manyfold the airflow we were getting previously, and we expect a significant savings over time since we are no longer heating the entire crawlspace and now have adequate insulation in the attic.
Description of Work: This started as a pest control issue and then became a major insulation project. First, the rodent control portion went fine. Pest free came, surveyed the property, set traps, caught a few rodents and all went well. My tomcat was insulted, but he'll get over it. The major part of the job, however, was attic and crawlspace clean-out, insulation and pest-proofing. Here is what they did: Vacuumed out the entire attic, removed debris including a huge old bird or squirrel nest, cleaned the insulation wrap around the furnace fresh air supply ducts, installed roof vents for bathroom and kitchen fans that were venting into the attic, screened the ends of the attic where creatures were entering, installed soffit ducts between rafters to preserve air flow and then blew in about 15 inches of insulation covering the entire attic space. In the crawlspace, they pulled up the old 3 mil vapor barrier, which was filthy, replaced it throughout the 1450 square feet crawlspace with 6 mil vapor barrier which they pinned in place. They also removed animal fecal material and old construction debris. Then, they repaired and replaced the furnace ducts which had come apart due to raccoon, opossum and, probably, cat activities. They screwed the ductwork back together after applying mastic and then wrapped the entire furnace duct system with insulation and repaired hangers, as needed. They also installed screening and pest proofed the crawlspace.

The owner, office staff and service techs from Pest Free are great. They have worked with me in a friendly and respectul manner and have addressed my rodent and spider problem effectively.
Description of Work: The former pest control company that I had contracted with was bought out by Terminex. Terminex honored my contract but I had to terminate my contract with them this past spring because of poor work. I was looking for an "organic" way to handle the rodent problem I was having. My yard attracts lots of birds with an occasional, wandering cat population and I didn't want chemicals that would harm them. I found Pest Free and have been very happy with their program. I set up a quarterly program with them and they send an e-mail reminder ahead of next scheduled service. I do think it is a little expensive, ($126 per quarterly visit) but the results of their work has been very good.

We bought their deal on Angie's List last month. The crew arrived on time and were nice enough. They proceeded to go into our crawl space and plug some access holes and to take pics. We had pointed out the area beneath our fireplaces where we have found mice before. There were two dead mice there and this seemed to set the stage for what transpired next. They proceeded to go down into our crawl space and to plug some holes and take pictures. The 'work' they did was less than 30 minutes. They then went back to their truck and spent almost an hour just writing up a bid to get rid of our 'infestation'. Our house is not old by the way. He came back in and said we had to tear out all the insulation and redo everything in crawl space and it's a 2 day job. He said we had an infestation. The bid was alsmost $3800.00!! We were shocked to say the least. He kept asking us to sign the proposal as the price is only good for the month and might go higher next month. We said no thanks and called another company to come out. They did a thorough inspection the following week and it disagreed with this one and they also took pics. They said there was not an infestation. And their bid was a fraction of this one and they also went into the attic to inspect. By the way, we have caught a total of 6 mice and none after that in the crawl space or anywhere else. So in fairness, I called this company and asked to have the owner call me back. Instead the 'assistant manger' called me back several days later saying the owner was in Portland (they don't have phones in Portland?). He only made matters worse on the phone. I am very disappointed the owner didn't call me back and that this was our experience.
Description of Work: Inspection and sealing of holes for mice.

Bought Angies List deal several month ago for a rodent exclusion package. Pest Free left messages on my answering machine a couple of times trying to set up a time to provide the Angieslist rodent exclusion package. I finally called last week and said I was ready for them to do the work. originally set up for a Monday morning, they called back and asked to reschedule for a Tuesday morning at around 8:30 AM. I was OK with this and the appointment was reset. Two people showed up at 8:20 AM. The lead introduced himselft and asked me questions about where the exclusion was needed and what I have had done in the past. They then set work for an hour inspecting and sealing some spaces. After an hour they were finished with the Angieslist Deal and told me what they had found and done. They had install some 1/4" mesh in two locations and sealed it with a caulk or polyurethane. The lead pulled out one of the traps with a large, dried up, Norway Rat probalbly caught last winter. He also rebated the traps with some peanut butter. They left the rat in the trap outside in the front yard for me to dispose of and left a old piece of 1/4" mesh next to where the new mesh was placed. The lead showed me pictures of some other places that needed to be sealed and gave me a written report which stated that several places of tunneling were found under the foundation near the furnace and a gap between a rim joist and my stem wall. They said concrete would have to be placed between the wood and top of the stem wall to seal the gap as well as the holes. I asked if mesh could be used instead for the rim joist and was told no. They said they couldn't do any more sealing today because they didn't have the material (concrete) to seal the holes. I offer my own quick set concrete but it was declined. They gave me a verbal price of $350.00 to finish the sealing of the house. They also gave me a written estimate of $840 plus tax to seal by ducts with mastic and insulate my ducts with R-11 duct wrap under the house which I had asked for. They left a 09:30 am.
Description of Work: Angies List deal to exclude rodent with limited materials plus inspection for other services.

I asked for estimate on the roof insulation. The estimator came on time, which was good, but then the rest, not too cool. First of all, he was not up-to-date on the city required R value. When everybody else quoted for R40-something, he was the only one quoted for R-38. I friendly double-checked with him was he sure, and he said he was. So considering he's giving me less insulation, I should get better price? NO~~~ I got the highest bid from him. It's actually close to 2x more than what other estimators gave me.

The servie man was nice. I expected more from the service than they provided. But I couldn't find the details of the deal saved in my Angie's List account. So i had no way to verify if he did everything he was supposed to do. I thought that the deal included baiting or trapping the mice to get rid of them. He just came out and looked for the entry points and sealed them up. He put one baiting station in my crawl space. Made it seem like he was going above an beyond what he was supposed to do. Told me that if I wanted to hire them it would be a monthly charge for them to come out and place baiting stations and clean out dead mice. I think they did an adequate job. again was dissapointed because I was expecting more.
Description of Work: He came in and looked for potential entry points. He looked inside, outside and underneath the house. He sealed up the entry points he could see.

The inspector and installation crew were very professional. The inspector explained in detail the rationale for wanting to cut a pipe. However, my husband did not want to do so (based on other advice) and the installation crew was very accommodating and installed barrier around the pipe to his satisfaction. The initial inspection did miss 3 access holes. We paid for a separate home inspector who found these. PestFree came out immediately to patch these additional holes.
Description of Work: Trapping and removal of rats from crawlspace. Patching holes in crawlspace through which they had entered. Removal of destroyed insulation and vapor barrier, cleaning and disinfecting crawlspace. Then re-installation of insulation and vapor barrier. This all occurred over the period of many weeks.
