I think they used the 'bait and switch' technique that I did not understand at the time. They inspected my attic and reported that they could NOT just add insulation on top of my old insulation per code reasons and thus must remove all the old insulation at a very high price before they could add more. When I told them that I could not afford that price they then offered to add insulation on top of my old insulatiion at a lessor price which I could afford.I agreed to the work but after they left and I reflected on the deal I realized that I still paid in excess for this service and felt they just jacked the price to insure I would accept a lower price. I feel they falsely represented why they could not add insulation in the first place. I agreed to proceed with the work but his was my mistake.
Description of Work: They cleaned up an old rat nest in my attic and then added insulation over the entire attic.

They were very unobtrusive and considerate (we work at home, so we were there). They spend a couple of hours, mostly in our crawl space. No complaints, and now no more rat noises.
Description of Work: Was a special from Angie's List. We had rats that had gotten under out house and into some wall spaces. They sealed, inspected trapped and generally advised.

Terrible company ---- we found them through Angie's List and they offered a "special" on an inspection. The person came for roughly 30 minutes and found two holes which he said he filled, and left two traps (both in the area where the rats had been going to the bathroom). We asked him if two traps were enough and he reluctantly left two more. We later learned that rat traps are not supposed to be left where the rats are littering. After having them come, and not catching rats, we did some research, spoke with a friend who is knowledgable, and called a couple of additional companies and learned that just about everything done by Pest Free was useless. Two weeks later, we had another company come, and they quickly found the point of access for the rats, and they said that the two "clogged holes" were not really filled by Pest Free, and the rats could easily get through. We paid less for the new company and they were at our home for 2.5 hours (versus the ~30 minutes by Pest Free). I asked Pest Free for a refund and they refused. They siad thay had high ratings and they would rather have us give them a bad rating versus refund our money. They said they would send someone to our home to re-inspect... however, I saw no reason to ask them back to our house after such a poor experience and a refusal to refund our money ---- STAY AWAY.

We had a few extra visitors living under our house, and wanted them all gone so I called Pest Free. The person on the phone was knowledgeable and polite and made sure we were paying for only the services we needed and nothing more. The Tech arrived on time, and did a very thorough search of our home, garage, and crawl spaces. He then explained what needed to be done and got to work. Once he was done we scheduled the follow up visits (included in the cost) which were also preformed with the same level of professionalism.
Description of Work: On time, clean, thorough and professional is all that needs to be said.

I used the $139 coupon for inspection, sealing entry points, and setting traps. I thought the inspection of my attic and crawl space was professional and thorough, and I appreciated all the information and advice. I thought the inspector was very knowledgeable and I appreciated his service. The reason I was not satisfied is because the inspection seemed to be only an opportunity to sell more expensive services. I was told that I had a rat problem in my crawl space. I called Pest Free and expected that they would close off all the openings and set traps as stated in the coupon. After the thorough inspection, the inspector suggested necessary work that included installing doors in my crawl space openings, sealing gaps between my storm sewer pipes and other openings like a dryer ventthe outside, taking out all the insulation, disinfecting, and replacing the insulation. The work was estimated to be about $5000, which was the higher end of the apparent market price - I got several free estimates after they left. When I asked about the traps and sealing services covered by my $139 coupon, the inspector set a couple of hardware store rat traps, stapled a wire mesh over one opening, and then said they would do the sealings with the larger job. I could have had the same result and saved the $139 I paid by just calling other companies for free estimates which I did later. I ended up using another company that offered some additional services (foam sealing around all my pipe and vent openings beneath the house for better insulation), and also installed doors to the crawl space, taped the joints of my vents, sealed old storm sewer openings with concrete, wrapped the vents with insulation, replaced my insulation and disinfected, and replaced the vapor barrier, and all for $1000 less. I had no problem with the Pest Free inspection services. The suggested work to remove the rats needed to be done. But even if they leave the traps on the first visit, you must enter into a $500 per year contract to get them to check the traps and replace them, so the whole $139 coupon is to get you to contract for more services. If you know you have an existing pet problem, just call the companies for their free estimates. Do not waste your money on the $139 coupon.

The problem of mice into the crawl space was not solved.
Description of Work: I first signed up for the Angie's List special. They came and inspected and set traps. The mouse problem continued. I then called and got a 6 month service program for an additional $250. They came about 6 times and the problem wasn't solved. This is a 15 year old house with a crawl space underneath the first floor. The problem of mice entering was not solved. We agreed upon a refund of 1/2 of the $250 extra fee to terminate the service. The problem was not solved.

The timing of the rat's appearance couldn't have been worse. We had just listed our home for sale and a photograper was there taking pictures when she saw a rat run across the floor in front of her! It turned out that two of our neighbors had just had their homes treated, and the rats apparently moved on to us. Or maybe they started at our home and moved from there to the neighbors', Who knows how rats plan their travels... The Pest Free technician was very professional. He pointed out several entry areas and sealed them completely. In the five months since the incident, we have not had any pest incidents, nor found any droppings.
Description of Work: The technician went under our home and spent 2 - 3 hours sealing up every entry point a mouse or rat could enter. He also showed me where ground water was entering the crawl space, plus told me how I could fix places where the insulation had fallen down.

This is the story of actual work accomplished: The crew arrived promptly at 8 AM on New Year's Eve and worked diligently until 3 PM. They removed all the old insulation and installed new R-30 insulation. On January 2nd they arrived again at 8 AM and finished everything up by 1 PM. Angel answered all our questions about the process and gave us insight and pictures of the progress. The crew went the extra mile to seal up additional pipe entrances not on the original bid. After they were finished, I was invited down to review the work and was astounded at the difference. It had never looked this clean and tidy, ever. I think home builders should look at BPestFree's work and make it a model for what a finished crawlspace should look like at the end of the build process! Thank you BPestFree for a job well done.
Description of Work: These are the details of actual work accomplished: Removal of all old R-11 insulation Removal of all debris, carcasses, feces, etc. including footings Sealed all pipe entrances Re-screened all air vents Repaired numerous air ducts Installed french drain Sanitized entire crawlspace Replaced entire vapor barrier Replaced insulation with R-30

This project went very smoothly, start to finish. Angel provided a detailed explanation of what he found, what he recommended, why he recommended it, and the options. His recommendations were objective, with no sales pressure. I personally intensely dislike working in crawl spaces, but Angel considers it his profession, and he is proud of his work. When he and his co-worker emerged from the crawl space covered in dirt after completing the work there was no doubt in my mind they had done a thorough job.
Description of Work: Checked attic and crawl space for existence of rodents and checked existing rodent exclusion devices. Replaced all crawl space vent screens and filled other small openings. After completing this work, Angel discussed with me the current condition of the crawl space (very poor). He recommended removing the existing vapor barrier, leveling the surface, treatment of developing mold, installation of new barrier, and insulation of heating duct work and insulation of water pipes. I k$new this all needed to be done as I had been in the crawl space before, and his observations were directly in line with mine. Initially I opted for fiberglass insulation for the water pipes and was given an estimate of $840.00 which I considered reasonable. The work was scheduled, but before he returned I called at the last minute to change the piping insulation to foam. They were very accommodating and made the change. Angel and his co-worker started around 11:00 am and were finished around 5:00 pm, impressive considering what they had to do. They removed all old barrier material and other existing junk, leaving no trace of it.

The work was done well with rats being trapped between the initial visit and the inspection and then again between the time of the inspection and the time of the clean-up work and barrier installations. The only problems were in communication between the office and us and then finding that the new threshold blocked our water drainage in the basement after the rainy season set-in. They came back out and fixed the problem by installing new screens under the threshold free of charge.
Description of Work: Initial visit: set rat traps, set bait station, spray for insects 199.00 + tax Service agreement for 12 months 99.00 + tax every 6 months Inspection and estimate for replacing/improving insulation and blocking entry points for rodents 6591.90 including tax. Remove soiled and damaged insulation, forms, cellulose and construction debris, remove any nests, sweep and sanitize attics and crawlspace, rescreen foundation vents and seal other access points after removal. Installed 700 sq ft R-30 insulation plus 700 sq ft 6 mil vapor barrier in crawlspace Installed 1800 sq ft R38 13" blown-in insulation in 3 attics and eve vent air flow guides Installed new threshold to basement door, blocking behind door to under-house storage, and screened around 2 pipes in inner basement to storage room in outer basement.

Daryl arrived promptly at 2:00. He explained the process of what he will inspect and asked me for any issues I might have. He spent a good 45 minutes inspecting the crawlspace. I was able to watch the initial inspection from the opening and ask questions from my vantage point. Afterwards, he showed me the pictures he took and explained the problems we face. He then inspected the attic which I was able to view from the ceiling opening. After the inspections, he wrote up the quotes for work that needs to be done. They were quite thorough and informative. He split them up realizing that the work required is very expensive considering the amount of damage done. We chose to address the crawlspace first since it is in terrible condition. The appointment was made to start work on December 31st. We finished up around 4:00. All in all a good experience, even with the bad news!

We hired Pest Free to check our house for rodent entry points. They did a thorough examination of our home, including the attic and were able to offer us peace of mind that we were secure from rodents. We do not have a crawl space but if we did have one they mentioned that that is a big entry point for rodents. They went above and beyond and because our house actually was so secure from vermin, the serviceman double checked everything because he wanted us to "get our money's worth". I appreciate that. It probably would have been just as easy for him to have just done a quick once over and left but he did stay long enough to let us know that he was working hard for us. Great and friendly service.

The guys showed up on time, and immediately zeroed in on the crawlspace as being the place rodents had taken up residence. After a lot of searching, they were able to identify points of entry and a nest, and even encountered two live ones. Entry points were blocked, and much of the mess was cleaned up and hauled off. Although I was very glad to take a sizable step toward resolving the overall problem, I was disappointed to find that one of the nests was not removed. And also, the initial visit is only the first step conquering the problem.
Description of Work: Service was performed to identify type of rodents that had taken up residence in my basement, determine the entry points -- and block them, remove the associated nastiness, then set traps and bait stations. Later also paid for the quarterly maintenance service, as well as the add-on insect elimination service.

We got the rodent exclusion package that Pest Free had and used it in July when we saw some suspicious spots in our garage. They sent out someone to take a look. Our fears turned out to be harmless but as part of the package the pest expert did go around the house and our crawl space to make sure that there were no entry ways for rodents. He assured us that everything was clean and no extra work was necessary. But in November, we found a dead rat in our garage that was caught in a trap we set up years ago. We called Pest Free again to take a second look and this time they added a mesh in one spot which could have been a point of entry. I wish they had thought of this the first time. It could have saved me and them the second trip. In both visits they were punctual, professional.

I saw the Angie's list Big Deal for a rodent exclusion package but I had some questions to ensure that what I needed to be done could be done by Pest Free. Before I purchased the package I called their office and explained to them that it was a Manufactured Home with metal skirting and that the rodents were getting through under it somehow. The lady at Pest Free assured me that it was covered and that if there was something that wasn't covered they would give me an estimate as well as an estimate to fix any rodent damage. Based on that conversation I ordered the Angie's list "Big Deal" on 09/13/2012. It was not until almost November until they first arrived to complete the work which was over a month after purchase. However they did not complete the work all. I asked for an estimate for any additional work and they gave me an estimate that exceeded $2000. I tried to work with them to figure out some solution but ultimately they insisted on charging between $2000 - $3000 to do the work that needed to be done. I fully realize that the exclusion package was for a certain amount of work however it is very concerning that they strung me a long so long and that they came up with a greatly exaggerated bid. What is worse I chose them rather than another contractor and when I went back to the original contractor it was too late and they weren?t interested anymore. To date I have not received any refund for the money I paid and because it is winter I must pay another contractor much more money to do the same work that should have been done in September! My losses from contracting with Pest Free are in the hundreds of dollars rather than just using the contractor I had originally. They NEVER once offered any quote anywhere near $800 or I would have had them do the work. The response from Pest Free stating that they did not know what kind of house I had and they offered to do the work for $800 is flat out untrue!

This particular Angies list purchase was to cover common and minor entry points. The scope of work requested at the time of service which was much more extensive than originally indicated at the time of purchase. The description of the home prior to the purchase of the Angies list would have indicated that we would have been able to perform this job. Once the technician arrived to the location and had the opportunity to discuss in detail; the work scheduled to be done was found to be far more extensive than common and minor entry point repairs. We made several documented attempts to rectify the difference in the work Angies list offered and what was requested also offering a substantial discount of the bided cost, which was less than a thousand; in addition waiving the cost of the Angies list coupon. The final cost was quoted below $800.
