The audit took several days. First they installed air monitoring equipment, took thermal images of the house looking for heat and air leaks and did a vacuum test. When the results were in a complete report with photos , recommendations and pricing options was provided. We opted to have all the ceiling can lights replaced with more efficient ones with better seals, updated the fire and carbon monoxide detectors, upgraded our insulation and installed a whole house air filtration system and a few other items. The service was scheduled over several days due to the extent of the work. All the various technicians were on time or phoned to let us know of any delay. They were all clean, professional and treated my house like it was theirs. Everyone provided me with a business card so I knew who they were.

Over the last two years this provider has up-sold me repairs and services. The last repair this season was very disappointing. We purposely get this done prior to it getting warm so that we aren't calling when it gets hot (and in a line up for services). However, after it got hot this week, the a/c unit didn't work -- at all. Wasn't even on. We called to get quick service and clearly they didn't believe a word we said since we had to threaten them about losing a customer to get them to even pay attention to us. They also went so far as stating that any work not related to the previous repair would have to be charged to us. So -- after my wife arranged for service by LETTING THEM KNOW WE WOULDN"T BE THERE AND THE GARAGE WOULD BE OPEN ETC, the first guy left since we weren't there. No notes in the call. Terrible. We had to call to complain AGAIN to get them out the next day. Finally, the next day when we had to rearrange our sched for them to arrive and ensure they didn't walk off again, they discovered that, "yup -- the previous repair had not been completed correctly." No charge, but then again, a very unsatisfied customer.

I've used BelRed for a number of years, doing annual maintenance on my furnace and A/C unit, but I will not use them again. They have become very aggressive in their upselling and have highly marked up prices on supplies they are upselling. I needed a new thermostat and they wanted $333 for one that could be purchased for $150 at Lowes (and less on Amazon). They also wanted $276 for two simple metal filters. I realize that they build their labor costs into their price but I'd be happier to see a fair price for the supplies and then a separate cost for the install/labor. When I called BelRed to talk to a Service Manager about my frustrations with the upselling, the receptionist took my info but I never received a call back from anybody. Finally, regarding the maintenance itself, they made a mistake that resulted in the furnace ignoring the thermostat and heating the home continuously. I had to turn off power to the furnace to control the temperature in the house. Fortunately, they were able to come back the next day and address that. In scheduling that return visit, the receptionist, who knew of my frustrations the previous day with the upselling, commented that she'd put a note in for the technician coming out to fix the mistake to be sure not to upsell me anything. I appreciated the gesture, but, really, would they be upselling me again while fixing their previous mistake? That pretty much sums up what BelRed is all about.

Went well. We went with the 95% high efficiency heater and high efficinecy air filter. The decision was based on current trends in regulations, natural gas cost, and home value. There design person created an estimate of our last year gas cost. When he showed up I did not have that number in hand. Once he produced an estimate, I went back and looked at our gas bills. His estimate was way off by. Our actual cost was about half of his estimate. But in the end it did not play into our decision.

Greg took time to explain the equipment and answer questions. The unit was in stock so we were able to schedule installation almost immediately after making our decisions. Kyle and Brendan were punctual, polite and the work was done in the time frame promised. Overall we are very happy with the furnace and our choice of Bel Red.

The second person came out at 8:30 AM until 1:00 PM. He measured, looked everywhere including the attic, the crawl space and put numbers in his computer. We all sat at the kitchen table and he showed us three options. The least expensive was $16,000 and the most expensive was $19,000. When I asked him to explain the problems to me in a way I could explain it to someone else he text me, and quot;In general, both the furnaces are oversized both for the homes need and ductwork...and this is creating a number of issues related to efficiency, comfort, reliability and potentially safety.and quot; He was extremely impressive with a college degree in economics but had always intended to work in energy. His presentation was intellectual and he told us we could get rebates until the end of the year. He had a spot on Monday December, 30 three days away. If we signed the contract he would save us a spot and if we called him 24 hours before starting we could get out of the contract except for any permits the company had paid for. We had already scheduled a second estimate with West Seattle the same afternoon. This person said we needed to clean our filters which he did. He said we did not need new furnaces and that most homes have furnaces that are bigger than needed. He said if that was going to cause a problem it would have happened before the 9th year in service. We were charged $147 for his 20 minutes of time. I then called Bel Red and told them we were not going forward. There was no pressure to go forward. I also called the city to make sure no permits had been purchased and I was told the permits are $134. Today Washington energy Services came out for $99 to tell us the furnaces were okay and the reason the furnace went off and then on about 24 hours later is because it got cold and the filters needed to be cleaned. He also said there were three filters missing. It is extremely hard for me to believe a reputable company would charge us $19,000 for something we don't need but that is what seems to have happened. I can only think they justify this quote because it would be an improvement to what we have without taking into consideraation the debt burden we would incur for furnaces that work. I will write back if anything bad happens from not buying new furnaces. Unfortunately I paid forward an additional furnace service for next year. I am afraid to have them back. After reading my review Bel-Red called me. I think in a perfect world what was recommended might be a good option but did we need to be worried about installing it immediately? I still believe the answer is and quot;noand quot;. The first inspector told us to use the furnace as little as possible because in the four days it would take for the technician to come out we could cause serious damage to the furnace. When we do need a new furnace I would consider their bid along with others. However, I would make sure I have several experts' opinions to determine if what is recommended is not beyond what I need.

Bel Red (Brandon Fargo and Jose came out to do the job) properly sealed our HVAC ductwork and replaced all the insulation that wrapped the There were so many leaks that it was warmer in the basement/crawl space than in the house. Brandon F. and Jose even checked all the heat registers inside the house and sealed any leaks. When our dog inadvertently dropped his favorite toy down one of the open registers all the way into ducts under the house, they went down and spent a good deal of time successfully retrieving it for him. Bel Red took care of all the paper work fora rebate of the job after the rebate. When the utility company required a thicker insulation (R11) than we bid the job at (R8) to qualify for the rebate, they substituted that at no additional charge. I would recommend them without reservation. This is the second time that Brandon F has been here and he is very professional and customer service oriented, as is Jose. Bel Red stands behind its work (see my previous review for earlier this year) and I would not hesitate to use them again. Plus no upselling.

The on-site team was professional and couteous. They quoted a very high price $850+ to install, during the service call, an induction fan motor ($200) they said may fail. They had a compatible part in the truck but not the exact part -- the exact part was cheaper, but would charge me $90 to go to the shop and get it which seemed silly. They had to call their main office frequently during the service for technical and business advice related to the service and the induction motor. The office was very inflexible on price, and gave the on-site team no flexibility.

We have to pay our technicians for their time to drive to and from your home to get the part (in the 4th worst traffic in the nation), we pay for the fuel for the truck, etc. We also pay the carrying costs to have that part in our warehouse. While we wish it were free for us to run to get a part, it is not, and unfortunately, we have to pass those costs along to you. In the end, we charge you a price that allows us to hire the best staff, provide them with exceptional training, benefits, etc., provide all the office and back-end support required to run our business, and still make a fair profit. You can find someone who will charge you less, but you will not find anyone who treats their staff better, can do the job better, or who will stand behind their work like we do. Lyle (installation supervisor), Brandon R. and Brandon S. from Bel Red were beyond great! Bel Red had installed a TRANE HVAC system in our home 2004 and the AC was not adequately cooling our home because someone (not Lyle but a predecessor) had installed it in a way that did not allow for adequate air flow over the coil. Bel Red has a lifetime warranty on its installation and it stood behind that warranty 100%. Lyle and both Brandons spent all day at our home fixing the installation. They pumped down the unit and rotated the furnace for better air flow and replaced the existing coil as well as installed and sealed new ductwork. The next day Russ from Bel Red came to our house to reinspect the HVAC unit and make sure everything was working properly. Bel Red did not charge us a dime and was very professional. They left the place spotless. I would not hesitate to use Bel Red again. It is rare to find someone who has a lifetime warranty that it honors and unequivocally stands behind its work.

One of their technicians came out for a pre-paid maintenance on our heat pump and found the coolant to be low. They quoted a price in excess of $1000 to repair it and suggested that since it was running the older R-22 Freon that it would be more economical to replace the unit. They scheduled a consultant to come out to discuss our options. The consultant arrived, looked the house over, then recommended a replacement unit with a price tag of $13,502. Additionally he stated that all piping must be replaced, and so we would have spent over $20,000 had we followed the consultants recommendation. When I asked and quot;why not just find and fix the leakand quot;, he made it sound as if attempting to repair it was not a realistic option. It was a pretty hard sell. When I researched the pricing of the units he had quoted, the best information I could find seemed to indicate a new heat pump of this model should be under $5,000. I contacted an acquaintance who works in HVAC and when I showed him the quote he started laughing, and confirmed the Bel-Red price was ridiculously high. He also confirmed that the pipes would not need to be replaced, and that an inexpensive flush kit was available. He then did what Bel-Red should have done, which is diagnose the leak and recharge the system, and charged me only $300, less than 1/3 of what Bel-Red's initial quote for a repair.

We're sorry if you felt you were being sold, or if we did not communicate the situation clearly enough to your wife so that she could convey it to you (our technician spoke with her, not with you). To be clear, we did not charge you for anything except for a tune-up, which was on special for $99. We recommended that you look into replacement options, as R22 costs were rising dramatically, future repair costs would be high, and your system could be replaced with a much more efficient one, but we did not tell you your system had to be replaced. The price you were quoted was for complete replacement of your heat pump system, including the air handler, line-set, electrical work, permits, etc. The $5000 price you mentioned is a low-end price for the outdoor unit only. While that price can be found in our marketplace, it is not from companies that invest as heavily as we do in their staff, in training, in quality work, or who offer a similar type of equipment or the warranties that we do. There is always a low price solution out there - it is a question of what you are getting for that price. As for the linset- as a rule, we replace the linnet EVERY time we install a new heat pump. This ensures a quality installation, with a much lower possibility of leaks, kinks or restrictions, etc. that can effect performance and longevity. In addition, while it is technically possible to flush out R22 lines when installing newer R-410A equipment, it is NOT advised. R22 equipment operates a lower pressures, and actually requires a different size line than R-410A equipment does. While the new equipment might work - it will never deliver the performance you paid for. The charge can be adjusted, but that can create other issues. In addition, it is impossible to remove all of the old R22 by flushing the lines, and this can create additional problems in the line. As we guarantee our linesets for LIFE, we insist on changing them with every installation. This is part of why me may cost a bit more, but ultimately, is a great example of how we deliver a better value than a lot of companies that will do with work cheaply. Again, I'm sorry if this wasn't explained to you clearly enough. From the extensive amount of work we have done for you over the past 6-years (which you don't mention), it would seem that you have been happy with the value we have provided to you. In the end, we do our best, but we are still human, and we can't be perfect all the time. I hope this explanation has helped to resolve your concerns, and in the future, would encourage you to call us directly to clear up any concerns.

Tech came out to perform the prepaid annual service on our furnance and AV unit. We have this service performed annually and this year there were a few issues. The issues are pretty bad and seems as it would have been noted in the previous year and wasnt. $700 later, it came down to the guy that did the maintenance work the prior year was sloppy, lazy and doesnt work there anymore. We have not had any bad experiences with this provider and i feel the pricing was in line with similar companies. When I select a provider for next year's service, I will include this company in the search and if selected I will possibly request the same tech as this year, he was fabulous and a bit embarrased about the work that was needed to be done.

The dude was nice enough, but it seems at every corner there was something wrong. my furnace 'needed' a surge protector, there was dead frog in my A/C unit. I was suspicious but what could I do, I don't know this stuff very well, and when an expert tells you are at risk of having this end up costing you thousands more if you don't deal with it now, I just coughed up the extra money. The clincher for me is that he told me that my water heater was on the verge of being toast and that it needs to be replaced. Here I am a year later, I had another company come through and they took one quick look at the water heater and said that the water heater is fine in a matter of 20 seconds. He also said that the gas valve in the furnace was way too high and that it eventually would burn out one of the best furnaces out there.

Our furnace stopped working: the burner would light, but the fan would not come on. The technician initially diagnosed the fan motor was burned out, and estimated nearly $600 for a generic replacement unit. Then he remembered he hadn't tested the fan control board, and determined that was the problem. This seemed like a pretty poor troubleshooting process. The parts department called me later with pricing of over $600 for the circuit board. Researching the part online, I discovered it could be had for under $100. I called the parts person back with this info; she said the markup included warrantee and labor, but given that a reasonably handy person could change this part in about 30 minutes, I cancelled the order. I'm perfectly willing to pay a reasonable markup and for labor, but adding $500 to a $90 part seems completely unreasonable. I also looked for the fan motor, and a replacement made by our furnace manufacturer is in the $200 range. Also an awfully high markup. I will not be using Bel-Red in the future.

To begin with, we only use the highest quality replacement parts, and we offer a 1-year guarantee on all repairs. The part you purchase online is not typically of the same quality (or cost) as the parts we use. If you install it yourself incorrectly, or the part you bought online fails, there is also little to no recourse for you. We stand behind our work 100%, and are here to help you should you ever have a problem with it. All of our staff are licensed and/or certified, and spend over 100 hours a year in training. Unlike an online store, we also have higher overheads that you are paying for, including a fleet of vehicles that must be insured and maintained, fueled, etc., to ensure our prompt response to your calls, extensive and expensive tools to ensure proper diagnostic and work quality, local business licenses (for every municipality we work in) and state licensing, insurance, bonding, etc., office and support staff, warehouse staff, and much more. I wish our business was as simple as you might think it is, but that is not the case as you may now see. In the end, we make a fair profit on our work, but shopping for what we do is not like buying a toaster, and can't be compared with an online vendor. We hope that you will re-consider us for work in the future, but wish you the best regardless.

We had our furnace serviced in our previous home before we sold it, and I was so impressed by the service call , that my husband and I decided to call Bel Red again when we moved and needed to service our new home's gas furnace. This review is for the service on our current home's gas furnace, with Dwight. He was extremely honest, thorough and explained every option. He made really appropriate recommendations, without overcharging or trying to upsell us in any way. In fact, the service we thought we needed was overkill for such an old furnace. So, he saved us money. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to others.
Description of Work: We had our gas furnace checked. We had just moved into our home and the furnace is twenty years old. Dwight gave us detailed information about how each part of our furnace was working, and what kind of life we may expect from it.

Michael arrived on time for a first of the day appointment. Explained what he would do.. He then removed and cleaned the filters and took part outside to clean with the hose. Answered any questions I had and was courteous and friendly. The entire appointment lasted about 1.5 hours. Recommended a surge protector to be installed in the furnace. He explained why he was recommending it, but did not and quot;hard sell.and quot; I told him I would think about it and contact the company if I decided to go with it. After research I decided to forego the surge protection.

Everyone we delt with was very curteous and respectful of our home.
Description of Work: Annual furnace cleaning and inspection. We were also notified and shown problems with our 12 year old furnace (which Bel-Red installed) and advised we should consider replacement. Bel-Red sent a person out the following day to give us an estimate for various units.

Technician Gabriel Matamoros arrived earlier than the scheduled 3 hour window given to me because of a cancellation. He had called ahead to confirm that it was convenient. He covered his boots, as has always been Bel Red's standard practice, and allowed me to show him to the furnace and the thermostat. He quietly went about his business, occasionally asking for the location of the heat vents. His work was very professional, he clearly explained the results of the service, and we rescheduled for the following year. He also suggested that we check our dryer vent, indicating that it was their standard practice to help clients ensure their safety.
Description of Work: Annual pre-paid furnace service. Checked operation of furnace, changed the air filter, cleaned the burners, checked all specifications, and ensured that the furnace was operating correctly.

My Furnace stopped putting out heat on the Sunday before Christmas and I was expecting house guests. I called Bel Red and described in detail what was going on with the furnace (blower worked, no heat) and asked if there was anything I could check or do before having them come out on a Sunday as there was a $250.00 after hours charge. The service person on call (who later came out) had no suggestions. When he arrived he took one look at the furnace and said I needed a new igniter, went to his truck and got the part and installed it in under three minutes. It involved one screw and one plug and was easily accesible in the front part of the furnace. It took less time to replace the part than write up the bill which was $650.00! He charged me $350.00 for the part. When I checked on the price of the part I found that it sells for $27.00 and is readily and locally available. As the repairman headed back to his truck to leave he stated that this is usually what the problem is in these situations. I wish he had been honest enough to tell me this when I initially spoke with him on the phone. When I called to complain about the outrageous bill I was told that they were sorry but this is their pricing policy. I will avoid this company in the future.

We make every effort to provide our customers with the information they need to make an informed decision, and always receive WRITTEN authorization in advance before making any repairs. There are multiple reasons a furnace can fail to ignite, including problems with the gas valve, circuit board, ignitor, burners, limit switch, roll-out switch, etc. And it is not possible to accurately diagnose them over the phone. As this was an emergency call made outside of normal business hours (the Sunday before Christmas), the customer was informed, and accepted that there would be additional charges. They could have waited until Monday, and not had any additional charges, but they chose not to wait. Once the on-site diagnosis was completed, they were informed of the required repairs, and the cost. While it is always possible to find a "bargain" on the internet, the value of a skilled technician who can correctly diagnose and repair a problem (on a Sunday) can not be found online. Nor can the value of having the correct part in stock and on-hand at the time the repair is needed, instead of waiting a week while it is shipped from an online vendor. We only carry the highest quality parts, and guarantee all repairs for 1-year. Try getting a guarantee on the repair from on online retailer. Ultimately, the value we provide is not something you can buy online. We find it frustrating that this customer did not have an issue accepting our service or price when they needed heat, yet chose to complain about it after the fact while sitting in their warm home, surfing the web, and looking for a "bargain" price that does not include any of the benefits we provided to them. To give us an "F" grade when we came to their home on the Sunday before Christmas (he obviously didn't find anyone else who would or could), when we informed him of the price in advance and he accepted it, and when we completed the repair promptly and professionally, and guaranteed that repair for one year is completely unreasonable. Our goal is to exceed our customers expectations, but there is no way to do that when those expectations are unreasonable.
