Abel's Flooring

We hired him because somebody recommended him and his price was good to start with. But his quality of work is so bad that we ended up paying a lot more to fix things he did. His punctuality is terrible. His deadline to finish work changed 5 times and after 3 months he just stopped showing up and did not finish the job. We had to hire other folks to fix the mess he left behind. He will promise to come at a certain time and then never show up or show up at 6PM in the evening when we are getting ready to have dinner and go to bed. He makes all kinds of excuses - my van broke down, I ate something bad, my uncled died, I have covid, my co-worker did not show up, I have no gas money. He will show up on the day he is expecting to be paid and then after that he will be a no show. He claims to specialize in flooring but his work lacks quality in every aspect. His attention to detail is terrible and he tries to get away with shoddy job. He did not level the subfloor and this caused many areas of bulges and uneven floor. He did not sand the floor enough to even out wood seams. He applied stain and finish on top of a dirty floor trapping all the dirt in the wood. The staining he did was blotchy, uneven and unprofessional. He made a royal mess of our stairs by using some goop poly stain that looks horrendous and wont come off. The contractor we hired after him said he cant fix the stair and had to pull everything off and start all over again. He put back the baseboards uevenly after installing the hardwood and did not even caulk them. Now we have gaps all over the floor. He said he can do bathroom remodel. We asked him to install a granite slab and he made so many holes in the granite for plumbing that we had to throw it out. He promised to do plumbing work in his bid only to backout at the last minute leaving us to find another plumber. The masonry work he did was unclean and he left patches of cement on top of the stone. He dropped cement on the wood floor and we had to spend money to refinish it. He sub contracted the painting job and the floor finishing job. His subcontractors stopped showing up after part of the job was done because he would not pay them. Working with him was a 3 month nightmare. DO NOT HIRE HIM!
