We had been having issues with two fireplace inserts in our home from the time we moved in several years ago. When turned on, the fireplaces would start up and shut down intermittently, and, generally, fail to behave properly. Adam Pedersen, the Blue Flame technician, arrived at our home the day following our initial call to the company, and gave us advance notice of when he would be arriving at our home. Adam quickly determined the cause of our issues as faulty installation that caused the switches to short out, advised us how to remedy the problem, and cleaned the glass fronts of the two fireplaces of the build-up from several years use. He charged us a very reasonable fee to fix our problem. To top it all off, he advised us to sign up for Angie's List for future home repair related needs, and here we are. Should we have additional needs in this area in the future, we will certainly contact Blue Flame.

The work was high quality in the end but not until several attempts. Somehow we got a bad combination of the inexperienced new guy and a supervisor who was overwhelmed. It was very hard to get them on the phone to discuss fixing the initial problems in the installation. We finally got a hold of the owner who settled everything quickly. Based on the eventual quick resolution, it seemed as though our experience was just bad luck with a few small and temporary problems in their service.

The installation went very well and I was very happy with the finished product.
Description of Work: I had a twenty year old furnace that decided to stop working and just produce a gas smell. I also had an old water heater that was ready to be replaced. I got three bids to have the work done and went with Blue Flame to replace both items. I had a York 9C multi-speed furnace and a new efficient water heater installed. Blue Flame was able to schedule the work within the week which was great considering the cold spell that had started the Sunday before the install. The two person crew that worked on the installation were very professional and were able to complete the installation in one day. They arrived around 10:00 AM and stayed until around 6:30 PM to complete the job. The furnace needed to be rotated 90 degrees and the water heater needed to be relocated so the installation was involved. I am very happy with the work and the City inspection passed with no issues. I am also extremly happy with the new furnace. The house seems to stay a constant temperature with no indication that the heater is on or off. It is also very nice to have consistent hot water. I would recommend Blue Flame to anyone needing heating work done.

When I first called they accommodated me for coming out on my day off, as I did not have an emergency, although waiting the whole afternoon (12-4) was a drag. When the representative arrived at 4:00 p.m., he thought I had a gas leak - which would have been an emergency. This seemed strange. Anyway, he went into the crawlspace and brought out all the filters for the air cleaner - GROSS!! He cleaned them and reinstalled them and then went to look at the ducting issues. I had explained that my contractor had done significant work on my ducting and insulation in the crawlspace following my flood, and he recommended that I call my contractor, rather than pay them for a return visit to fix the ducting. I did do this, and my contractor happily came out and resolved my issue, but I do think this guy could have simply hooked up a couple of ducts in the same hour he was in my home, but he was not motivated to do so. My furnace is working better since the cleaning and I believe I probably need annual cleaning of it. If I would have been offered an annual contract or something I would have jumped at it, as I will not be going in my crawlspace to clean the filters. This guy was not motivated to do the work, go beyond the basic cleaning of filters, or offer any other service. I will be looking elsewhere for someone to clean my ducting and annually service my furnace. Blue Flame was adequate but I am looking for some good customer service.
Description of Work: My furnace wasn't working well, and I suspected it needed cleaned. My furnace is in my crawlspace which does not make for a easy job of cleaning it. I also had some issues with some ducting that had been disconnected after a flood in my home earlier this year.

The combo system described above working fine on the hot water side, but was failing as a space heater. Of course, this happened during the weekend when there are only a few companies that provide emergency services and none had any interest in servicing a system that was anything but a common single purpose furnace. Even the company that installed the combo water heater declined to trouble shoot the system. But, Natasha at Blue Flame got right on the case and arranged for her top service tech to take a look at the system. Their diagnostic services for standard equipment are priced very competitively unlike some of the larger and top rated Heating and AC companies on Angie's list. Since this was a combo system, she had to quote me a higher price for their top service tech. But, after the tech tested the system and discussed with me, we quickly isolated the problem and got the system running again - it was an obscure switch that was inadvertently turned off. While Blue Flame executed the service call flawlessly, my ego was badly wounded having not found the problem myself and, worse, paying top dollar for an expert to help me find it was just rubbing salt on the wound. This was turning out to be a very bad day. I was not ready for what happened next. Natasha called to tell me that she was lowering the invoice amount to their standard rate given what was found. When does that ever happen these days? These guys get FIVE big ones hands down!

Looking for integrity? Look elsewhere. The incorrect sales tax for my location was quoted, and it was 1.6% higher than it should have been. The estimator's excuse was that he was doing it on the fly so didn't know the exact rate. However, 2 months went by in which the estimator had a chance to check his work, and never did. (The WA State Dept of Revenue has a simple web page where you type in a residential address and it tells you the exact sales tax rate for it. It requires internet access and 15 seconds to type in an address.) I then requested the Angies List discount. The estimator said they'd already given me the best price they could, and could go no lower. After contacting Angies List, and having them contact the company, they agreed to give me the discount. But they complained about my complaint, despite the fact that it was the company's voluntary decision to offer a discount to Angies List members. I then asked about York's current rebates and was told they had given me the current rebate on the quote. But according to one local York distributor, the actual current rebate available was twice that amount. I still was willing to proceed, but I wanted a Disclosure notice that the WA State Dept of L&I says is required. At this point, the company said they didn't want my business because they were concerned they couldn't satisfy me. Their brochures claim that my satisfaction is guaranteed. But I guess if you insist on being treated fairly, they don't want your business, so it isn't guaranteed.
Description of Work: Requested estimate on furnace replacement. Waited 2 months, then contacted company again to proceed on contract negotiation. Ultimately, company decided they didn't want the job.

I picked Blue Flame based SOLELY on the Angies List rating and how fast they would come out. They were the highest-ranked Angies List firm that would send a man out same day. The tech that showed up, Adam, was extremely impressive, especially for a young man. He called ahead, showed up right on time and found the problem in about ten minutes. Because repairing the problem was expensive (cracked heat exchanger), I had a lot of questions about what to do next and he was very helpful and patient. Ultimately I took his recommendation to replace the furnace. The sales guy who then came out, Pat, was again very patient and brought me a lot of options. Given the availability of a tax credit I opted for a new high-efficiency furnace. There were complexities with our set-up that had to be addressed and he made intelligent recommendations that he discussed with me thoroughly. The furnace was installed four days later. Now I used to be a retail executive and I will tell you that the true test of a service provider is when things go wrong.... and they did. The installer, Brandon, accidentally hit the air conditioning evaporator with a screw, puncturing the coil and causing a refrigerant leak. I was standing right there watching and he took a lot of care not to hit the coil, but there was a hidden bend that I doubt anyone would have seen. They finished the furnace installation in a very professional manner and took the old a/c part away, assuring me they'd take care of things. I was a little nervous; these were strangers after all.. The plan had not involved replacement of the air conditioning, so I was concerned that this firm would get flaky. They didn't. As noted above our configuration has some complexities and they had to work hard to find a suitable replacement coil for the air conditioning. They did so, and we ended up with a system that is almost certainly better than if the accident had never happened. The whole process took about two weeks, and I could have wished for better communication during that time, but there was no whimpering or complaining from them, and the repair installation was just as professional and clean as their first visit. So I have a new HVAC company and I have recommended them to two neighbors.
Description of Work: Furnace was shutting down intermittently. I tried changing the filter and checking everything I could and it would run for a day or two then shut down again.

The whole experience was excellent - from the front office person I talked to who explained the varying service levels and answered my questions. I had spoken with another company and they acted like the questions I asked were out of the ordinary; they were cheaper than Blue Flame, but I decided to go with Blue Flame. Johnny was punctual, explained the different parts of my furnace and it was great. I would definitely recommend using them for servicing your furnace.

The person who came out to do the estimate was great. However the estimate I received was not broken out by cost and the estimate came back quite high. When I called to ask for more detail, the person I spoke was very slow to answer and a little vague when I asked how many hours and how many persons it would take to complete the job, since the bulk of the cost was going to be labor, as if he wasn't sure what he based the estimate on. I've never received an estimate that didn't have a cost breakdown for different parts of the job - there were was some ductwork I deemed as absolutely necessary and some other ductwork where I was trying to figure out the best option. The estimator said I would be provided with a breakdown and I wasn't. I did use this company for furnace service and they were great. Not sure what happened here when it came to the estimate. I ultimately went with someone else for ductwork.

Response from Blue Flame Heating and Air Conditioning
We regret that there was a breakdown in communication from our end to the customer. We take responsibility for the poor communication. The job mostly was comprised of labor / travel time. Our jobs are billed at a flat rate to complete the entire job. We could have optioned a time and materials proposal, but didn't offer it at the time. The request was made by the customer for a breakdown on particular parts of the job and we didn't have good communication back to the customer. We have discussed this particular issue internally and have come up with solutions / ideas on preventing this type of failed communication in the future. As a customer-driven company we regret when mistakes are made with our customers, but we always admit when they are made, and strive to make improvements so they don't happen again.

One word for my experience....easy. No hassles. Great folks on the phone who actually make you feel like they would like to help you. (Who are these people?) The work they did was great. I know I sound like a commercial, but dealing with everybody at Blue Flame is a pleasant experience.
Description of Work: Assessed a problem with an apt. gas heater and fixed it with only a trip charge. The technician called me and explained the problem. He seemed knowledgeable. It is a hybrid furnace which is about 98% efficient. It was more expensive to have it installed since the insulation in our house is not very good. They were pretty good and professional. I didn?t have any problems. The work was all done in pretty much one day. We are getting a lot of work done before we go back down to Las Vegas. They also came back and did some other things. The job is done and we have already closed the permits, but they are still doing some little things. I felt that the price was pretty fair since I am not sure about the price charged by other companies. I think they come out and do a spot job for nothing. So I would use their services in the future too.

Called them up a couple weeks before. Natasha was very helpful on the phone, answering all my questions and setting me up with an appointment, telling me the tech would call roughly 30 minutes before arriving. On the day of service Johnny called telling me he was 20 minutes away. He a quick and completed the job in about 30 minutes. When he came into the house, I noticed that he was wearing shoe covers! John and Natasha (who scheduled the appointment) were great. I had to reschedule the day after making the appointment; they were very accommodating and were out by the end of the week. I was called 30 minutes before they came out, right at the beginning of the estimated window of time, and they showed up on time. They were happy to accommodate my service-person requirements before entering the house (e.g. truck with company logo, uniforms with company logo, business card), wore booties whenever they came in the house, and had no problem with my dogs. They explained the problem, showed me the busted capacitor that they replaced, and explained a bit about refrigerant to help me understand how likely it was that we would need to replace it anytime soon. I would definitely use the company again.
Description of Work: John checked our A/C to determine why it was no longer working and found a blown capacitor. After replacing the capacitor, he and his assistant checked that the system worked and that we did not need to replace the refrigerant. (Our initial guess was that we needed to do this.)

From estimate to installation, everything went very well. The estimate process was very professional and I was given written estimates on three options before the sales rep left our house. He was very knowledgeable about the products they offered and was able to discuss with me options and solutions for what we wanted to get done. Price was very competitive (middle of the three estimates we received). I really liked the product that was offered and that was a driving factor in why we chose Blue Flame, but the confidence I had in their ability to stand behind the product and installation was equally important. Installation took two days, and even though it has only been a week, I am very happy with our decision to use Blue Flame and would most definitely recommend them to anyone who is willing to listen to me.

First of all, the technician (Johnny) put on booties so as not to track dirt into my house. He checked the furnace and then also discovered that my natural gas water heater also was not working. He knew immediately that gas was not coming into the house. He and I went outside to check my gas meter. He found that the earthquake valve shutoff had been tripped. It's a safety feature that detects vibrations and shuts off the gas. I told him that on Tuesday, I had my gutters torn off and replaced with new ones. The tech said that the vibrations and electric hammering is probably what activated the valve shutoff. He re-set the valve and showed me how to do it. Then he went in the house re-ignited the water heater and the furnace. And voila, I had heat and hot water again. I was so relieved and also glad I didn't have to get my furnace repaired. I have used Blue Flame before and they are so professional. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an honest, reasonably priced, and competent contractor.
Description of Work: I woke up in the middle of the night (2 am Wed) as I was very cold. I checked the thermostat and it read 67 degrees but when I turned it up to 70, my natural gas furnace did not kick in. I called Blue Flame at 9 am and they said I was their 3rd customer and that they could be at my house in a couple of hours. The company called me at 12 noon to say they were on their way.
