We have lived with in wall electric heaters since we bought our home near Mill Creek almost 20 years ago. Our home has no existing ducting for heat or air, so converting to a central HVAC unit was not really an option. I began to see information about "ductless heat pumps" in the substantial power bills we received. I called the PUD conservation number and requested their information about rebates and tax credits for improving energy efficiency in the home. Their list of approved vendors for ductless heat pumps included several companies. I visited their web sites and decided to give Blue Flame the first call. The owner, Rodd scheduled a time to come to our home as soon as we would be available. He fully explained how ductless heat pumps work, the most recent technology and how they might best be utilized in our home. We decided on a unit that would serve both our family room / dining / kitchen area and our master bedroom on the second floor. We enjoyed visiting with Rodd, who was clearly an expert on energy conservation and showed obvious concern for our needs and for our budget. The installation crew arrived exactly as scheduled and went to work with installation of the exterior unit . An electrician worked on wiring the exterior unit. From the external unit, "ducting" no larger than a gutter downspout. These service lines blended in perfectly with the exterior paint and carried the insulated supply lines and wiring for the interior units. They cut two - four inch holes where the interior units were to be installed, then proceeded to mount the units as planned near the ceilings in the respective location. The entire process took less than 8 hours and was choreographed beautifully. The job made very little mess, and what small mess there was was thoroughly cleaned. Rodd was there nearing the installation to see that everything was in working order and to explain how to operate the system. The installation crew was extremely pleasant and professional and all that was left behind was the heating and air conditioning that we now so enjoy. The units are so quiet and clean that they are not even noticed. With our climate, we have used both heat and air conditioning during this summer. Both were so comfortable that we only wish that we had done this sooner. In addition to being the lowest cost means of having heating, we received an instant rebate that saved us about 20% of the actual cost of the units. We are very happy campers and so pleased that we chose to work with Blue Flame. They are good people with a great product at a fair price
Description of Work: Blue Flame acted as consultants on how to most efficiently heat and air condition our home. We selected a ductless heat system that they recommended and they installed the units as promised, on time and within our budget.

This company is top notch. Kevin came out to discuss bid and examined crawl space work. Flex ducting had many holes in crawl space due to rodent damage. My increased heating bills confirmed I had a problem this winter. Had Pest control come out and exterminate all rodents in late winter. Kevin had inspected and said all flex ducting needed to be removed and new flex ducting installed. They did a terrific job. They even found some flaws from original construction work that was not done correctly on main trunk. They corrected the flaws from main trunk. I am super happy with their work, professionalism and customer service. Highly recommend. Very easy to work with and good quality workmanship. Thank you Kevin! :)

Adam arrived right on time and was very professional. He first checked out the fireplace and quickly addressed the issues there. He then checked out the furnace and found that the condensate pump was broken. He said he had one with him and would be able to replace it on the spot. He also performed a regular maintenance of the furnace. My only qualm with the service was around pricing. They charge $99 just to look at a problem, never mind fix it. So, $99 later we have a working fireplace, which seems fair since he didn't charge us anything more than that to actually fix it. But it also cost $99 to look at the furnace and then a separate cost to actually fix it. This might be industry practice (I don't really know) but it seems a little nickel and dime-y. However, Adam worked some financial magic for us and got us a discount which included servicing for next year. Overall, we were happy with how quickly and easily we were able to take care of the furnace issues and how professional Blue Flame was to deal with.
Description of Work: We purchased a new home and wanted to have the furnace serviced. In addition, we knew the furnace was leaking water, so we needed to have that checked out and there's a gas fireplace which wasn't turning on. Adam fixed the fireplace by turning on the pilot light and replacing some batteries. He replaced the condensate pump on the furnace, and he did a full maintenance of the furnace. The price also includes next year's furnace maintenance.

Member, We appreciate this type of detailed feedback and are constantly trying to improve our processes and procedures to meet our customer’s needs (in order to be as fair and competitive as possible in our market). Our policy when responding to a repair call is to quote a “Trip and Diagnostic fee” plus any repairs that may be needed. This fee covers our cost to travel to the customer’s house and a modest amount of time for diagnosing the problem. Once the diagnosis is complete, the technician will discuss the nature of the repair/failure and quote a flat fee to repair the problem. That flat fee includes any parts & labor required, as well as our one year warranty. The scenario where multiple units are not working at the same address is not encountered often. This type of feedback is great, as it helps us to reconsider how we will charge for multiple diagnostics at the same address. We are currently re-evaluating this process in an effort to be as fair as possible with our customers, yet stay afloat as a small business. Thank you again for the great feedback as we truly strive to become the best Heating and Air Conditioning Contractor in our area. (Ps. Watch out for a letter in the mail from us!) Sincerely, John Falletich Blue Flame Service Manager

Our current furnace was operational, but we were looking to upgrade to a unit that would be more energy efficient. Blue Flame was one of three companies that we obtained quotes from, and although they were not the least expensive, they were the most professional, and explained all of our options. They clearly explained and offered suggestions based on our house size, layout, etc., as well as the warranty options. The services were then performed on time as scheduled, including removal of the old unit, and as a bonus the installers also tidied up the ductwork and heating pipes in the crawlspace. It now looks better than ever, and our heating unit is more accessable for filter changes and/or future service. After the installation was completed, the installer took additional time to ensure we understood how to opperate the new furnace, and were clear on how to fill out the government paperwork for the energy efficientcy rebate that was being offered (which this company matched!), and the warranty paperwork. We recieved a followup phone call within a few days from the company asking us to rate our experience, and another call again after the winter had begun to ensure that we were satisfied with the units opperation. Their follow up was commendable. This company delivered as promised, and our house is consistently warmer, and our heating bills lower, as a result. We have since reccomended Blue Flame to friends and family members (one who has indeed used them with similar satisfaction results as ours), and will continue to use them for our heating needs in the future.
Description of Work: Relacement of existing furnace to a more efficient heating unit.

They were out within two days, totally rebuilt the defective furnace mount, replumbed the exhaust and intake and added sound deadening material. They then notified the city who came out. inspeacted the installation and gave us a clean inspection report. We could not have been more happy with Blue Flame's work from beginning (problem diagnosis) through inspection. The Installers did a superb job with a difficult installation putting in a solid 9 hours to do it. We will be back to BF for our next gas or hvac problem and heartily recommend them to any other Angie's List client looking for this kind of work.
Description of Work: Our relatively new, but incorrectly installed, furnace broke down and we called BF after looking them up in Angie's. They came out and, after measuring the exhaust, told us the heat exchanger of the existing furnace, because the furnace was installed incorrectly, was shot. They then wrote us estimates for replacing the heat exchanger and replacing the furnace. Since the price wasn't all that different, we decided to go with a new furnace.

On a cold, Sunday morning, our hot water tank went out and my husband tried re-lighting the pilot, to no avail. Which meant no hot water to take showers! And it was freezing, so there was no way we were taking cold showers. Early Monday morning we called the company who had worked on our furnace, but they wouldn't work on Whirlpool hot water tanks. We called another company, but they wouldn't come out until the end of the week. We finally called Blue Flame and they said they could send out someone in an hour. Tony was there even earlier than expected and he quickly lit the pilot. He recommended that we call Whirlpool and order a part called the "thermalcouple". Because it was still under warranty, we didn't have to pay for the part. To re-light the pilot and diagnostic test we were charged $98. I ordered the part, which came the next day. The hot water tank seemed to be working without having to replace the thermalcouple. Unfortunately it went out again, that Friday night. Once again, leaving us without hot water for the weekend. We called early Monday morning and Tony was there even quicker than the last time. We told him that we had lit the pilot, but it had only stayed on for a couple of minutes. He was able to light the pilot, but after 5 minutes it went out. He replaced the thermalcouple and suggested we get a new tank. The total cost to replace the part, labor and diagnostic fees was $125. Since then we haven't had any problems with our hot water tank. We were super thrilled with the quick response time and the professionalism that Tony and the people at Blue Flame displayed. We definitely will be using them again! On a side note: we got an estimate for a tankless water heater, to get rid of the eye-soar of a hot water tank in our laundry room. Unfortunately our house is older than the hills so we need to replace our galvanized plumbing with copper, but once we do that, we'll definitely get Blue Flame to come out and install the tankless water heater. Davis came out to give us an estimate and was very knowledgeable and answered every question I had.

It started with a quote from Pat. I had car trouble and wasn't able to make it back home in time and he was very accommodating. In addition to receiving a quote from Blue Flame, I received quotes from three other companies and three of the four were very close in price. We ultimately choose Blue Flame based on Pat's professional, straight-forward demeanor (he didn't try to upsell non-essentials as some others did), the A-List reviews and a word-of-mouth recommendation. When we set up the appointment, I was told it was important for someone to be home at the beginning and the end of the appointment. We scheduled the time with that in mind so I would be home to let them in and my wife to let them out. Unfortunately they showed up 35 minutes early meaning my wife wouldn't be able to be there for the final inspection (because they'd already be finished). Contrary to what I was told before, the techs said this wasn't important--despite the fact that we planned our day around this schedule. The two techs got to work right away. It went fine until one of the techs had to do some work on the outside of the house while it was raining. Shortly thereafter, I came downstairs to change the laundry (which was right next to the install project) to find the dryer still running, except with all of *my* clean clothes laying in a pile on top of the dryer. Turns out the tech got wet outside, so he took it upon himself to cut in the laundry line. THE TECH PUT HIS DIRTY, SOAKED SHIRT DIRECTLY INTO THE DRYER. Unfortunately it smelled like an ashtray. In the following days, I received a follow-up call from one of the owners to ask how things went. I told him about "the dryer incident" and he seemed genuinely embarrassed and apologetic. But that's as far as it went--the thank you note made no mention of this faux pas and there was no price break or gift card included which would have been a nice touch. As for the work itself, they did a good job, particularly the skilled tech. The "dryer tech" however was a bit rough on the wall while installing the new thermostat. He did manage however to get the job done without damage. They also did a nice job of cleaning up in the basement leaving little evidence of their work. All in all it took them about 5 hours. Assuming the inappropriate behavior has been addressed (which I was assured it would be), I'd still recommend Blue Flame... As we're now nearing the end of winter, the system has worked well and as advertised. They also included a free inspection at the one-year mark which you might have to ask for?

We do our absolute best to be as accurate as possible in our estimate of our time of arrival. With today's traffic condtions, and our work being spread out around the Puget Sound- perhaps we at Blue Flame try too hard at setting the bar high regarding our actual arrival time. We do our best to accomodate our customers schedules, but are at the mercy of traffic conditions and other variables. But were truly sorry we showed up early- in fact, I don't think we've ever received a complaint about being early. But, we understand with people's tight schedules and that early can be inconvenient as well. As for the dryer incident, we should have never asked to use the member's dryer in the first place- it places our customer in an uncomfortable situation. We had two installers on hisjob that day, one of them being our install manager (Brandon) who was filling in that day. Brandon was there during the "Dryer Incident" and said that our apprentice installer (Mike) did ask the member before using it, and that he did not remove any clothes from the dryer before putting his sweatshirt in it. Whatever the case may be, we never should have asked to use his dryer, and as professional contractors working in the Puget Sound- we should carry rain gear anyway. (It is known to rain here once in awhile!) So, again- our apologies- and yes I should have sent the member a gift card after I met with him . I guess were not used to these kind of things happening with our company- our customers experiences with Blue Flame are usually very positive expereiences. Although I do think the member would say that he is overall happy with Blue Flame beyond the "Dryer Incident"! We appreciate the feedback, and we will use it to make us sharper in the future. Sincerely, Rodd Walker- Owner.

The compressor went out on our old heat pump in early January. The company that had been servicing our old unit gave us an estimate, but since it's an expensive item we decided to get a couple more estimates. Thank goodness we did! The Blue Flame sales rep gave us what looked like a good, honest estimate that was significantly lower than the other two estimates we received. He was also very knowledgeable about incentives available through Snohomish PUD. So, besides giving us the lowest estimate out of 3 for exactly the same equipment, the PUD incentive saved us an additional $1200. It took a little while to get all the paperwork done and approved before the work could start, but the Blue Flame installers showed up promptly as promised as soon as the paperwork was approved. They finished the work in a little over a day and the system is great - we love it. A few days later PUD checked the system and gave them some feedback that the air flow wasn't high enough, Blue Flame came out and made some adjustments which PUD was happy with - so we're happy, too. The Blue Flame sales rep also told us about Angie's list, so I became a member, printed off their coupon and got a little rebate check for that, too. All around a good experience.
Description of Work: Replaced our heat pump and heat exchanger with new units.

Blue Flame was highly responsive to our needs. When our furnace was out, they provided temporary heaters and were able to respond in a very timely fashion. At at time when we felt quite vulnerable (no heat), and could have been taken advantage of, they were completely professional in all our dealings and a pleasure to work with. Also did a great job of providing us with options for different furnace manufacturers and thermostats, and got us a solution that was right for us at a fair price. Highly recommended.

Everyone throughout the process was professional, well-mannered, patient, helpful and informative. They cleaned-up thorughly. Addressed any questions or concerns we had through-out the entire process from estimate, deciding to acquire them for the job, paying the deposit and final payment. Even after we paid our bill in full they still remained at the same level of customer service. They are VERY willing to work with customers, they believe in the true meaning of "Customer Service" something that is not found these days.
Description of Work: Remove old furnace, install new furnace, earthquake valve, condensation pipe and thermostat. Acquire permit to do so. Perform air flow duct balancing and later duct testing. Haul everything away and clean-up after themselves.

They were quite good. I had a contract with American Home Shields and I could add them to my mortgage. They covered all the appliances in the house. If something goes wrong you can call them and they send a contractor who would look at the problem. They will fix it if they can and I just have to pay the service charge. When my water heater went out the guy came out and said that the water heater was old that it was starting to rust and I was getting rusty water when I ran my water. He called American Home Shield to get approval for a replacement of the water heater and they refused. I finally used Blue Flame to replace my water heater. The guy who came to do the work had to replace a lot of piping as it was rusting. I was very thankful for that. I felt the guy was very knowledgeable. The workers are very experience and very professional. They take their time as far as diagnosing what the problem is. They don?t rush through and they told me what was going on. Instead of forcing a product on me they let me choose. They give specifications of various heaters and give you the advantages. I felt very confident with them. They even fixed my furnace once. Since I had used them before, they did not even charge me for the service call. I will use them again and again. They are on my list.
Description of Work: I used Blue Flame Heating & Air Conditioning to replace my water heaters four years ago.
