We couldn?t be happier with choosing Blue Flame for our project. I found three different companies all through Angie?s list after reading through the reviews. The quotes we have gotten were all within 10% cost-wise. However, Blue Flame was really the only one whose professionalism really shined through. I made the consultation appointment on the phone with Kathy; she was polite and helpful. (This was a huge plus considering the other company I called previously was short and rude because I didn?t know exactly what I wanted with my conversion.) Pat came out and really took the time to explain all the options. He came out for a second time with Rodd to explain the technical details; they took notes, pictures, measurements, etc. This was still just the consultation process, but you can tell they genuinely care and take their work seriously. Plus, they were the only ones that repeatedly said they would work with us to ensure we are happy with every step. The other quotes we have gotten didn?t seem like they were as flexible. The installation took ~4.5 days. Chase was our main guy and he was awesome. The whole crew was polite, clean, and patient. They cleaned up at the end of the day as if they were never there, even though they were coming back the next day. I bought coffee and breakfast and they even cleaned that up. They would ask us if it was okay to leave some tools behind. They laid down drop cloth in the work area and respected that we didn?t want shoes in the house. Their communication was just impeccable, whether is with Pat, Rodd, Chase, or Kathy. Everyone from Blue Flame was so courteous, patient, and open. We were always able to get our questions answered and they met our needs and requests every time. We didn?t have any worries during the whole process because we knew we can count on them to do it right for us. Their work was A+++. We would recommend them in a heartbeat.

The initial contact by phone, the meeting with the designer, the scheduling of the installation, the preparation of the site, the installation of the equipment, the check for performance, the explanation of the system and the detail of the operation of the thermostat, the inspections, and the final check all went exceptionally well. There were no concerns that were not addressed and resolved immediately. Everything works and works well. Every person involved in the entire effort was professional, courteous and efficient.

I contacted a few companies to get quotes and Rodd came out to provide a quote for the gas pipe installation. All of the companies were in the same ballpark, but I got the best sense from Rodd and so went with Blue Flame. The technician came out a few days later, seemed knowledgeable, and got the job done fairly quickly and efficiently. They pumped the gas pipe with 15 PSI and told me to let them know if it dropped in pressure over the next few days. 5 minutes after he left, I noticed the PSI was down to 11, and after a few hours went down to 0. I called Blue Flame and scheduled someone else to come out to fix the leak. The 2nd technician came out to fix the leak, and he was even better than the first! He fixed a few badly angled pipe joints (which I didn't have a problem with at all) but after he saw them, he said it bothered him and so fixed it without my even asking him. He quickly found the leak, found a way to eliminate 2 additional 90 degree elbows, and made the work even cleaner/neater. I highly recommend this company and would definitely use Blue Flame again.

I priced-out three different heating companies, two of which on Angie's List. Out of the three companies, Pat with Blue Flame, was the only one to go under the house and into the crawl space to ensure my duct work was connected and functioning properly. As he mentioned to me during the estimate appointment, you can have the best furnace but if your duct work is not connected properly, it is not going to make a difference. The two gentlemen that installed the furnace were also professional, on-time, and knowledgeable.

The owner/salesperson Rodd is incredible in his detail. He did a heat loss analysis that showed my house needed a smaller furnace than we originally priced so the new furnace wouldn't short cycle. He really took the time to explain the pros (and cons) of everything heat-loss and furnace related. I got three estimates for the same exact work and his was the highest at first (one of the other estimates was from another trane dealer, the lowest estimate was an american standard dealer). AFter removing some optional warranties and prepaid service and some other discounts (thanks Angies List)...theywere the middle bid. What sold me was the owner/salesperson's attention to detail and willingness to explain the pros and cons of everything. I really felt like they gave me the best recommendations as well as a competitive price.

Blue Flame sent Adam out to troubleshoot the issue on Feb. 27th and confirmed that the capacitor was indeed dead and he replaced it from truck stock. He mentioned that the blower motor could also possibly die in the next few days, but he didn't want to do it if it wasn't going to die, but for me to be aware of the possibility. Sure enough, by Monday evening, the blower motor ceased to work. I was away from the area all day on Tuesday and called Blue Flame again Wednesday morning to ask them to send another technician to fix the motor issue (furnace trouble code 133). Adam was not available, so they sent Johnny. Johnny removed dead motor & reconnected new motor and tested to make sure everything worked. He noticed that the flame igniter was showing signs of wear and advised that I should watch it & replace as soon as I could. It will be a repair I could make on my own without needed to call a technician. Johnny took the time to show me how to remove the existing one & how to replace the new one when I get the part. Both technicians were friendly & knowledgeable about what they were doing. I would definitely hire Blue Flame again for future repairs & issues that I would be unable to tackle myself. Prices for the replacement motor & capacitor seemed a little high, but overall a good value for the money for the service provided & peace-of-mind that it was done right.
Description of Work: To fix blower motor issue with my 15 yr old gas furnace. With own trouble-shooting, had it down to a problem with the capacitor on the blower motor, as the furnace was showing a trouble code 12, but wasn't sure that was the only trouble.

After receiving a couple of other quotes and recommendations, Blue Flame was the obvious choice. The owner spent hours in the house looking at the existing system and going over options and costs for the new. His superior knowledge (and salesmanship) were evident from the minute he walked through the door. We ended up buying the Cadillac system and could not be happier. We have consistent and eaven heat throughout our tri-level house, which we knew from experience was difficult. We completely remodeled the house and hired over a dozen contractors. Blue Flame was easily the best of the bunch. Their people were on time, cordial, and very professional. Best of all, they performed work that I was sure would be an extra, but didn?t charge an extra dime. As long as they are in business, they will have my HVAC bussiness. These guys are the bomb, consider no substitute!

From working with Kevin on the bid to the installation with Chase, Ben, and Dustin, and startup of the system with Johnny, the folks from Blue Flame were efficient, courteous, and professional. Very responsive over the holidays to set up for install just after the new year. Clean install and let me watch and ask questions. I have to say, the system worked great during this week of cold and snow. Very consistent heat with the variable air handler fan in combination with the 2-stage compressor. I would recommend Blue Flame for consideration in your home heating services.

Things went pretty well. The installation was performed and everything works fine. The price was a little above the original estimate and one thing that I thought was in the original estimate was extra/additional. So you're fine going with this company as they do very good work. However, be sure to be very precise with the estimate. For example, the estimate included vacuuming/cleaning out the existing duct work. However, this was done by a different company and the cost was in addition to the original estimate even though the original estimate included the work. The explanation was that the work was included but not the cost. (Which didn't and doesn't make complete sense to me).

I am very happy with the ductless heat pump system. Previously, I relied solely on in wall electric heaters at my house which did an awful job of keeping the indoors comfortable. It's only been a week, but the comfort level in my house is now wonderful! The machine is quiet and keeps my house warm and toasty. I haven't seen an electric bill yet, but I'm optimistic it will be drastically less. Also, I look forward to the summer now to see what kind of cooling this unit can provide. I'm a firm believer in ductless heat pump systems and Blue Flame provided excellent service overall. Only time will tell if the investment was worth it, but so far I am very pleased.
Description of Work: After getting three estimates, I chose Blue Flame to install a ductless heat pump system in my house with two indoor units. Their estimate was not the cheapest, and did take the longest to get (even after some prodding) but it did seem to provide the most value given the size of the units they were offering, energy savings and utility discount. Once the City of Seattle discount was approved (~1 week), the work was scheduled and completed within another week. Their team arrived late on install day but I was notified about it beforehand (via courtesy call). They completed the work in one day, which was a pleasant surprise for me and so far, everything seems to be working great.

Blue Flame came out and did the work promptly and as agreed. They immediatley followed up on some small concerns I had. My only issue was that they didn't closely check the heat vents and they ended up needing replacement. Instead of the work being completed in one stage. They had to order parts and come back to complete the work at a small upcharge. They did this to save me money but I think I would have rather paid extra up front to have the work 100% complete. Not a big deal. We are now insulated and the house is heating and staying warm. I have hired Blue Flame before and would hire them again. I do recommend them to friends.
Description of Work: We have a hundred year old house. I was insulating and wanted to make sure my heating system operated to it's peak performance. I called Blue Flame to look at replacing ductwork, insulating ductwork, and installing a zoned system. The project manager convinced me that the cost to zone the system was not worth the expense, and also recommended some building improvements that would make more sense (weatherstripping, replacing a couple of rattling windows, and plugging up old ductwork chases. The final scope of work included replacing the old damaged ductwork with insulated, sealed ductwork, replacing dampers, and installing other miscellaneous parts that would better deliver heat to our rooms.

The bidder gave a very good explanation of the differences between furnace brands and types, and we chose the most expensive option which we thought would heat our house more uniformly. The did an excellent and thorough job, fixing one of the ducts that was not included in the bid for no additional cost. The workers were punctual, prfessional, and cleaned up after themselves. The furnace has been working well, and we are very happy with Blue Flame!

Our furnace is in our garage, situated such that there's a wall on one side and the cold air return duct on the other. Everyone we got a quote from said they'd need to move the cold air return duct out a few inches to accomodate a slightly wider furnace. Everyone besides Blue Flame also said they'd need to run the exhaust out the side of the house with a new PVC pipe (since you can't use a metal pipe with high-efficiency furnaces due to condensation), but Blue Flame said their guys could run a PVC pipe inside the existing metal exhaust pipe. The installation process was pretty quick, only a few hours. Indeed, they were able to run the PVC exhaust pipe inside the existing metal pipe. The installer even offered to spray-paint the part that sticks out of our roof to match our other roof protrusions if we had any of the spray paint handy. (We unfortunately did not.) Even more surprising, it turned out they didn't have to move the cold air return duct either -- the installers moved the power switch around to the other side to make it fit in the existing space. This was a great surprise since we were a little worried that we might hit the duct with our car if it stuck out any further than it already did. Though also surprising was to see the yellow EnergyGuide tag on the front of furnace that said it was rated at 97.5% efficient, even though we had been told that the furnace we were getting was 98% efficient, both in the quote we got from Blue Flame and in the brochure from York they gave us. When we looked back at the brochure, we noticed it actually said "up to 98% efficient" with an asterisk. The asterisk led us to some small text at the bottom of the page that said "97.5%". But the confusion made us wonder if we had gotten the correct furnace. (We checked the model number confirmed it.) We think it would've been better had both York and Blue Flame represented it as 97.5% efficient as opposed to 98% up front. After the installation was done and they were gone, my husband tried opening the cabinet to the furnace filter and it wouldn't open. We called them and they sent someone out to have a look very promptly. It just needed a good yank to open the first time. (My husband had been afraid he might break something if he pulled too hard.) We did have one additional question after a month or so of owning the furnace. Somewhere along the way in getting quotes from various companies, we had gotten the (mistaken) impression that 98% efficient modulating furnaces tend to run "continuously" at low power, but our furnace definitely turned on and off more or less when the thermostat they installed clicked on and off. My husband emailed the sales rep that came out to our house asking about that. The sales rep said that it was probably because the weather hadn't turned that cool yet, and he'd pass the email along to their service manager and have him give us a call. My husband took a look at the installation manual which talked about "communicating thermostats" versus "non-communicating thermostats", and emailed back asking if that could possibly be making a difference in the operation of the furnace, since we had a "non-communicating thermostat". (Though it is worth noting that all three companies we got quotes from offered to install the exact same thermostat we got, even the one who installed furnaces made by a different company.) A month and a half went by and my husband hadn't gotten any response, either email or a call from the service manager as was offered. We were thinking about calling the manufacturer after the holidays to ask them. But shortly before we were going to do that (also not long after first turning in my review on Angie's List), their service manager did email my husband back and thoroughly answered his question. He apologized, saying that he only just then had gotten my husband's email forwarded on to him. I guess my husband's email had fallen through the cracks. Now that a couple months have gone by, we've started to see some lower energy bills even on months that were cooler than they were last year. We're pretty happy about that.
Description of Work: Blue Flame tinstalled a York 97.5% efficient modulating furnace with new exhaust pipe, pump, and thermostat to replace our 1980s furnace that didn't always start anymore.

I called three HVAC companies in the Seattle area to make an appointment for a replacement of a furnace and water heater. They called me back promptly and I had them come over to give me an appraisal of what it would cost to replace my furnace and hot water heater. One company came over with two representatives and from the get go I knew they weren't for us. They could not answer many of our questions, told us it would take a couple of days, and would have to route piping between floor joists and they weren't sure about the right thermostat location. They were in the house for 4.5 hours as they kept measuring the same areas over and over. Kevin, from Blue Flame came over promptly and was in the house for 2.5 hours analzing what kind of configuration I had and what was actually needed. He sat down with us and he indicated that our old furnace was too big for our house. He accurately described that our old unit was probably cycling too often and therefore not very efficient (which was right on the money). He informed us that no routing between floor joists was needed as he could have the ventilation pipe exposed in the garage without it looking utilitarian. He offered us three different types of furnaces and water heaters and throughly went over the advantages and disadvantages of each as well as the price differences. Kevin told us our old thermostat was in an area that was not in the best of location and made a recommendation as to where it would better serve us. Kevin did not push or pressure us into any particular system and we made a decision that we felt was best for us and our price range. When it came to the water heater, we had an old 80 gallon gas fed heater that needed replacing. He noted that the tank location and furnace were located to close to each other (code violation) and the water heater would have to be moved to the garage. I confirmed with our local municipality that the units sitting across of each other was indeed a code violation; Why our home inspector did not pick that up is up for debate. We decided to spend an extra $1500 and purchased a tankless water heater because of the added expense of a new tank as well as the expense of bringing it up to code (safety parameters). Overall, the tankless is more money, but we felt it would better serve us in the long haul. After we decided on the type of furnace and tankless water heater, a crew of four came in and completed everything in a little under 8 hours. They were on time, courteous, and very professional. They encouraged us to ask questions and their clean-up was fantastic. We are VERY happy with the work done and the products selected. Blue flame was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive as I am very leery of going with the lowest bid--you get what you pay for. Without a doubt, I will use Blue Flame again.
Description of Work: I had the old furnace removed and replaced with a newer model with better efficiency. I also had a gas 80 gallon hot water heater replaced with a tankless heating system.

The technician arrived on time and was did a professional and excellent job in all respects. He removed and cleaned the burners in the furnace, inspected it any sign of damage or wear and replaced the filter. He then turned the furnace on and heated the house to a high enough level that the air conditioner could be tested. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient with his work.
Description of Work: Blue Flame cleaned, tested, replaced the filter, and checked operation of both the furnace and air conditioning system.

Service Tech (Johnny) was prompt and courteous, in fact he called ahead of arrival to let us know how far he was out, very nice!!! Once he arrived he was able to isolate the problem with the heater within 15 minutes. He did a wonderful job of explaining the issue as well as the associated costs with the repair. The part was changed out in another 15 minutes and we had full restore of heating to the home. Pricing was reasonable and was glad that they had the servicable parts on-hand without any additional delays to the repair. Outstanding outfit would use them again!
Description of Work: Service run to repair heater which wasn't working.

Gas leak in wall resulting in gas smell in one lower floor room. PSE shut off gas. Blue Flame responded the next day and found the leak(s). Disassembled the line and resealed several leaking and/or poorly fitted connections. Whole job took less than two hours. Also checked furnace and gas fireplace.
