I had 3 contractors come out to bid and discuss my project. All three were fairly good at assessing and discussing my needs and what would work best (not a heat pump). Kyler from Blue flame was the most thorough in assessing what size equipment would work best, measuring windows and discussing insulation. The others "just knew from experience". Greenwood Heating's bid was $2k higher than Blue Flame for essentially the same furnace (Trane vs American Standard, but they are the same, same model #, etc). I was weighing options, and delaying pulling the trigger b/c it's a large cost. Kyler checked back in with me several weeks after bidding, he was again the only one to do so. I told him I was concerned about some negative reviews on Yelp for Blue Flame, and asked about it and the causes. He acknowledged that Yelp wasn't there best look, but that Angie's list and google had much better reviews and he stood by Blue Flame b/c he felt as long as he'd worked there he felt they would back up what he told clients, important b/c he is the customer facing side of the equation. The third company that bid was a few hundred more but excellent reviews, better than Blue Flame but much younger company. I chose Blue Flame b/c of Kyler's thoroughness, follow up, and their 10 year labor warranty above the 10 year parts (if you do their maintenance plan). No one else had that. Kyler missed one appointment with me but followed up apologetically, he had been tied up with another appointment and we rescheduled. Feedback on installation: First, Kyler said I should receive an email with photos of the installers the day before, never got it. When I called the office they said I should get it same day, never got it. Twice I told Kyler and the assistant at the office that I wouldn't be home until 9am in their 8-10 window, they both said they would tell the installers. That never got communicated, they showed up at 8:35 and had to wait, but were pleasant about it. 2 guys came, one was primary and the second more of an assistant. The primary installer was efficient and quick, seemed rushed but also that he knew what he was doing as far as putting furnace in and taking old out, assessing ductwork, etc. He wasn't sure about the codes that the furnace was showing on start up, and had to look them up which was concerning (he stated it means it's running properly, and if true, shouldn't he know what proper install looks like if he's experienced?). Also, he didn't know about my Nest thermostat, a running theme of bad reviews for Blue Flame since their website says they are authorized installers, then their folks need more training on these thermostats I think. Finally, it seemed like the assistant was in sort of an apprentice relationship, and had a question about some wiring for the thermostat. When he asked the primary, he said "I have no idea", instead of suggesting they look it up later or something. I always feel for apprentices and think on the job training is important so this made me feel a piece was missing. Maybe they don't have this apprentice set up and it's not to be expected, but it would have demonstrated professionalism to do so. The assistant was good, he even took some pictures of my crawl space for me when I asked how the ductwork insulation looked. He hooked up the thermostat wires wrong, but the primary installer did check his work and identify the problem and fixed it before any issues (and made sure assistant knew correct way). They used drop cloths and shoe covers. They recommended I keep an existing duct work over installing their new one as it was a better fit, which I did but didn't get any savings. I love my new furnace, the air is warm, working with my Nest thermostat, all ready for family visiting for Xmas and I am happy with the work that Blue Flame did. The issues I outline here were small scale, included here mostly to help Blue Flame with their communication issues--easy fixes for a much improved customer experience. As a customer I would use them again, their people are good and I think they are responsive. I am confident if I were to have an issue they would handle it as promised. The first year's maintenance is included, and from there you prepay or pay monthly to keep the 10 year labor warranty (exclusively) through them. It's sort of like paying a little extra over 10 years for a labor warranty, in my view, as their service is more a bit more expensive but with the labor warranty it's worth it for us.
Description of Work: I needed to replace a furnace, my old one was threatening to fail. I was interested in heat pumps, as cooling would be a benefit.

tuneup went ok. Technician advised to replace the ignitor. He also offered to replace it for $208 which seemed bit high for the ignitor replacement so we declined to replace the ignitor.

Cleaning was done, but when we started using furnace next week the furnace won't start. We had to call the technician again. It appeared that he did not complete the maintenance and left furnace in non-working condition (left some switch or valve in off position)

Blue Flame put in a new air conditioning unit for us. Generally they do excellent quality work and are very professional, however, when installing the air conditioner, the lead didn't properly pressure test the line for leaks so we had to dig up the dirt around the lines again to find and repair the leak in the copper line.

The initial tech, the sales rep and the installation crew were all very friendly, professional and efficient. I was pleased that they were able to swap out the furnace the next day. My one caveat is that they accidentally damaged the internet cable that ran through the utility closet. Comcast probably should have unit through there in the first place.
Description of Work: Gas furnace problems that PSE tech couldn't resolve. Blue Flame tech found a couple of problems, checked for me to find that the furnace was 17 years old. I decided to replace the furnace and they applied the cost of the repair call to the new furnace.

The HVAC tech was knowledgeable and courteous. She used a checklist and was very thorough. She did note that my blower was leaking oil and gave me an estimate of replacement cost. After the furnace checkup, they sent their salesman to write up an estimate for a new furnace. He was also prompt, professional, and very helpful answering questions.

Great! Blue Flame had it diagnosed and replaced within the time the competitor could make their first visit. They communicated everything especially well and were here when they said they would be on each occasion with a pre-visit call to ensure we were all on the same page. I thought the price was very fair considering I needed to replace the unit and its location under the house.
Description of Work: My 20-year-old gas furnace quit working just as fall arrived. I called Genessee who we've used in the past with mixed results and who couldn't even come for a week and then decided to try Blue Flame. They came within two days and diagnosed my old furnace as needing major repairs. It is located under the house and Washington Energy Services had earlier said that not only would they no longer service it, but that I had to move it up into the house somewhere when I replaced it. Blue Flame said they go under houses all the time and would be happy to work with me to repair or replace and service it in the future.

Perfectly. Service tech Fernando had recommended this after showing us the accumulation of dust in the blower motor at the previous annual service. Requested him to be installer for this job as he is punctual, professional and friendly and per previous experience with Blue Flame, they don't try to sell you extra unneeded stuff. Blue Flame, and Fernando if his schedule allows, will be our go to company and tech for any future necessary furnace work.

Eric from Blue Flame arrived on time to perform cleaning and annual maintenance check on our gas furnace. The house had been rented for some time, and it was clear that the tenants had not serviced the furnace. Eric did not rush the service, but carefully returned the furnace to clean operating condition. He showed me the parts of the furnace that had excessive wear and that would need replacing in the near future. I have had annual servicing on furnaces for the past 30 years. I can say that this year's servicing was the best. Also a shout out to Erica, conscientiously called me with reminders of the upcoming service. She also informed me of a special that the company was running that saved me money on the service. This company's staff knows how to keep the customer happy. Highly recommended!

It went well. The technician found that I needed additional work done (that I could not, at this time, afford). He explained the reasons I needed the work and its importance. He wrote down what was required, and then he continued what he was working on. I appreciated the careful explanation and the lack of hard sell. I am always impressed with the service I get from this company.

The serviceman was Fernando, he was great. He discovered I needed a lot of work that I did not have done. He was not terribly pushy but he did say it would be to my benefit. I am going to consider it. I did appreciate he was not a hard sale. He actually arrived early. He made a real effort to get things cleaned, it really needed it. I think he spent a little extra time. Everyone, the workers, the people on the phone seemed to be great.
