I bought a furnace from them which came with my first service free, they failed to show up at my 6 mo and didn't check in until year 2 where I showed up in their marketing system to try to get me to re-activate and buy into a service plan. Then when I did have an issue, I called because my furnace is still under warranty. They come out to tell me what I told them, my thermostat is dead and needs replacing. Did they bring the part? Nope, and that still cost me $160. On top of that they said it would be a second service fee plus labor to bring the part back the next day and install. Then they thought they could get cute. Since I was going to be out about $350 bucks for a warranty replacement they said I could sign up for a service plan today to save $10-20 because they would just count this as 2 of my 3 service visits. Since I wasn't able to be there, as I'm taking my fiancee to the doctor to get diagnosed with cancer the service member gladly took the cc# from my son and automatically enrolled me because he was doing me a favor.

This is the third time we have used Foss in the last four years. Your technicians have always been professional, knowledgeable, and respectful. Today Andre came out and did not disappoint. He maintained the high level of professionalism we have come to respect. He was able to answer our multiple questions, explain what he had done and what to expect. Thank you again for maintaining a high quality organization."

Thermostat failed during night. ? if thermostat or gas forced air. Heat. Call just before 8am. Service just after 10am. Replaced thermostat after troubleshooting. Did a service on furnace. Suggested furnace may be oversized for house. 14+ years old; therefore will have one of the specialist come evaluate furnace further & recommend options for upgrading or replacing. service was very professional & fast. Any sales component for upgrade is segregated to another person who specializes in that area. Andre made clear he was trained only in service & others in the company specialized in other facets of the business. He called back in 1 to 2 weeks to be certain everything was working correctly for us. Appreciate prompt professional service with offer of follow up evaluation, but no pressure to use that service.

Replaced furnace filter system and air cleaner, brought plumbing and install up to code. Most importantly found and repair intermittent small, but scary gas leak that several had tried to hunt out before. Dug deeper into the install that others did and kept working util they foiling it. The install is clean and neat. It s working well and October gas bill is down significantly from last year. Air cleaner doing what they promised and really helped with the smoke of last summer.

It went very well. My furnace is located in an area where it is a very tight squeeze so it is not very easy to move around. Everyone I had contact with from Foss was very professional. Everyone was prompt and went out of their way to make sure I knew what they were doing and why. They did not leave anything undone and cleaned up after themselves, something I could never train my family to do.

My furnace wasn't working reliably, it would turn on for about 15 minutes then switch off and the house would not heat up. I found Foss on Angie's List and called to make an appointment. They were pretty booked, the first available time was between 12 and 4 today, which wasn;t ideal, but I agreed, hoping it would be done inbetween the times I needed to go get my children from school. They called and said they were nearby and would I mind them coning early. They came about 10:30 and were done in about an hour. They were very kind and professional, they explained what was totally necessary and what could wait and also ways to save me money for their service. they worked with me on the price to make it as reasonable as possible and left my house toasty warm. Thanks Foss, I will for sure be using you i the future

There were many, many issues during the transaction/service. The one that remains is the persistent leak down the stovepipe. Foss refused to use my existing ducting when they replaced the fireplace. Ever since installation, I have had leaking every single time we get heavy rains. They have been out numerous times to "recaulk" and "remedy", to no avail. They even went so far as to say that I was overwatering the (one succulent) plant in the room and that is what was causing the leak. Are you kidding me?? No resolution, no follow-up. I now have to hire a roofer to repair the leak and then will have to go through the ordeal of seeking reimbursement from Foss. Nothing but a nightmare. Would absolutely not recommend.

My interaction with Foss Heating and Cooling was EXTREMELY unsatisfactory. I selected this company in large part because they claim to be experienced with Trane zoned systems. Despite telling them up front that I had a zoned system (more complex) and that it was probably a short in the low-voltage wiring, they sent out a tech who appeared to have little experience with zoned systems or isolating wiring issues. He spent 3 hours, but didn't find the problem. He did however remove most of the wiring to my zone controller board thinking the issue was there (which it wasn't). On day two a different, more experienced tech came out (45 mins. late) and put some of the zone controller board wiring back in. He diagnosed the problem to a short somewhere in the heat pump - but also didn't have time to find or fix the actual problem as it was late again by the time he finished putting back the wiring the first tech had removed. He also quoted me $180 to replace a leaking capacitor in the heat pump... a job that I ultimately did myself for $30 in parts and 10 mins. of my time - which makes their price seem exorbitant to me . Before he left, I told the tech I definitely wanted them to finish finding the short and correct it, replace the capacitor, and service both the furnace and heat pump - about $500 worth of work. His last words as he left were "We'll be in touch soon". I figured that meant a day or two at most to collect parts, etc. (especially since we were still on temporary heat). Two days later I got an email billing from them (without the Angie's list discount they advertise and that I had clearly informed BOTH techs about). I wrote back immediately and informed them that only the diagnosis had been completed and that they still had to do the actual repair and other work the tech and I had discussed. One would think that this would have raised a BIG red flag somewhere in this company... i.e. billing a customer who informs you that the job isn't done yet. But it apparently didn't. After waiting over 10 days for them to contact me and come out to complete the repairs, I ultimately completed the repairs myself . It's now been almost 3 weeks and there STILL has not been one word from them!. They left my furnace in a jury-rigged "temp heat" state, left wires detached from my zone controller, left my thermostat hanging by the wires, and seem to have just forgotten about the job! Oh... and Tech #1 took some personal documentation of my system to study, and it was never returned to boot!.

Response from Foss Heating & Cooling
We have attempted to contact this customer to rectify the situation to the best of our ability. To date, he has not responded and we were told by his wife to not expect a call back. The lack of communication to this customer was entirely our fault. We dropped the ball in doing more research on his system to find out if we could find parts (it turned out we couldn't, as it is an obsolete system.) After we exhausted all our options and waited for phone calls from distributors, more than a week had passed and the job had fallen off our radar. Again, our fault. In regards to the time spent on site, this was a complex problem with multiple issues occurring, we spent a lot of time performing our diagnostic, around 5 hours total, which we know is not exactly convenient for the customer. We performed this diagnostic for the originally quoted price of $99 and he did receive his $20 Angie's List Discount. If our quoted price for repairs seemed exorbitant, that is a matter of not understanding what our direct costs are above and beyond the cost of the part, and that is exactly why we quote the work before we perform it. Finally, the documentation our technician was studying was an install manual that we printed out here. When we attempted to contact the customer, we offered to give him this printout. I do understand this was a frustrating experience and we take full responsibility. We are a small business that strives to provide excellent service every day and we take it seriously when this doesn't happen.

I thought they did a top notch job, techs were very skilled and courteous. Although, we had a small issue with the thermostat , it was fixed quickly. They made sure I knew how to work the system before they left, which I appriciated since it was an expensive project. Sam, Joe, Andrew, and Mark, among others were very professional and reliable. In my opinion, I would give them straight A's as if it's on a report card.

The outdoor unit plus an air handler of our Rheem heat pump installed by Foss Heating & Cooling in early 2005 at a cost of approx $7100 required approximately $1300 of repairs over the ensuing 8 years including the replacement of the compressor (parts under warranty but not labor.) It then failed in early 2013 just a few days before we were going on a 2 week trip. Foss promptly sent a technician who found the unit to be completely out of refrigerant, which subsequent testing proved to be due to a leak in the outdoor coil itself. The coil had to be replaced as it could not be repaired, and a matching compressor would have to be used also with a repair quote of $3,644. Since the technician found other worn parts, which would likely have to be replaced sooner rather than later, he also gave us a quote of $6944 to replace the entire outdoor unit. We decided to go with the new unit, though became increasingly upset with the only 8 yr life span of the initial unit. I discussed our angst with how much we were paying out for our heating equipment, and the lack of warranties on the coil, etc., with Roger Foss, the owner, and asked him to go to bat for us with Rheem in hopes of some mitigation of the cost. Roger was very pleasant and agreed to look into it. He later visited us, looked over the equipment, and discussed it further with his vendor. He ultimately met with us and stated that the technician overlooked the fact that replacement of the outdoor unit should have been linked with replacement of a matching indoor coil to maintain efficiency. He agreed to replace the indoor unit at no cost to us, a savings of $1758 plus tax. With a further slight upgrade we would then qualify for $850 worth of rebates and tax credits. We elected to go ahead with his proposal While we were still not happy with the expense of our heating system over the years, we thought Roger Foss put a lot of time and effort into reaching a satisfactory solution which gave us a more efficient system with a better warranty and allowed us to take advantage of almost $1000 worth of rebates and tax credits, while his company absorbing almost $2000 of the total cost of the new system. He was a gentleman throughout and treated us with respect and courtesy. His technicians were all prompt, pleasant, and did good work.

I recently bought a gas range to replace my old electric stove in the kitchen. I already have other gas appliances, but needed a gas line run into the kitchen through the crawl space under the house. I called to about 8 plumbing and HVAC companies in the area and Foss was by far the least expensive. They weren't able to come out for about a week after I called, but for several hundred dollars in savings I was OK with that. The tech was prompt, finished the job in about an hour and a half, and even used his own connectors for the range so I could return the ones I bought. The line was finished nicely behind the stove and wasn't just a loose connector like I was expecting. I was not billed extra for the range hookup and was charged exactly what I was quoted. He even took my old hot water heater at no charge, saving me a trip to the recycling center.
