Not well.
Description of Work: Late October system would not heat. Tech came out and added Freon and called it good , no leak test performed. $400 bill. Late March system would not heat again. Tech came and discovered a leak in the coil. Tech topped the (leaking system) off with 2 1/2 pounds of Freon. Had to order a coil. $471 bill. System worked for 8 days then wouldn’t heat. When questioning the bill owner said pay the bill or find someone else to fix the system that is still under warranty.

Description of Work: Our gas water heater broke on a Tuesday. We had to wait a week for them to come out, because there were so many calls for house heaters out. |But when Mark came out, he fixed it and an hour later, we had hot water. Hurrah! from a happy customer

All went well, except for a delay in parts. They are very expensive though and will only use them again if we can't find anyone else.

Within 10 minutes we got a call back and within 30 minutes they showed up. It was Jordan and Eddy two young men that knew their stuff. They were here in less than 30 minutes and the problem was fixed. We are still waiting for the bill but being on a Sunday evening they told us that it will probably be around $240.00 including parts and labor. I believe they said around $135 an hour plus trip time on weekends. It is well within the going rate for a Sunday evening. They were professional, polite and will ask for them again. Wish we had called them first!
Description of Work: Fixed our 45 year old air conditioner on a Sunday evening when the other provider we called Hochstatter Electric kept us waiting and waiting and waiting for a phone call back.We had an electric storm the night before and a power surge that knocked it out

I had a low cooling problem and the repairman assumed it was the freon and a leak. That was not the problem and he over charged my system.
Description of Work: Polhamus Heating & Air Conditioning charge the freon and checked for leaks.

Description of Work: The thermostat in our recently purchased home was displaying a flashing red light when the furnace came on. There was also a decrease in warm air coming from the registers on the floor. I couldn't find anything on line or in the manual about it so I contacted Polhamus. They were prompt in responding. The tech had experience with the model of thermostat we have but had never seen a red flashing light display on one before. Also said we needed a new piece for the outside heat pump. The part was quoted at $300.00 but actually cost much less. The part was ordered and would be installed when it arrived just a few days later. The tech was very informative as to the operations of the system. He was also very talkative. He spent about 45 minutes each visit chatting with my husband. When the bill arrived, we were charged for 3.5 hours of labor. The tech only worked about 1.5 hours total during both visits. I called the company to ask about the billing process and was told the tech calls the company when he arrives at the job site and a computer starts a timer. He calls when he leaves the job site and the computer records that as well. That is the amount of time you are billed for-not for the actual amount of time worked. So if you tech stands and talks to you for half an hour, you are getting billed. I contacted the company and told them I wasn't pleased. Since the charge I thought would be about $300.00 was over $500.00 I would like to pay it in two installments. The gentleman I spoke with said this would not be a problem. I then got my bill this month for the second half of the charge. It was stamped past due and came with a service charge of over $6.00 for a $245.00 balance. I again contacted the company and expressed my concern over being threatened with having my account turned over to a collection agency for a payment plan that was accepted by the first phone call. All the contacts I made with the company regarding their billing procedures and charges were listened to but not one person ever offered any type of remedy or apology for their billing practices. The tech himself was knowledgeable but he also knew he was billing us for standing there talking. I don't think that is a fair business practice.

In summary, the first guy didn't find the probelm. The second guy found the leak and fixed it, but broke the drain pipe fitting while he was there. The third guy fixed the broken fitting, but over tighned it cracking the drain pan to the coil. This seems never ending. I told them the better send me their best when they fix this last problem. UPDATE 9/20/11: I'm still waiting for the last problem to be fixed. I called them on 7/8/11 about it. It has been 2.5 months. I finally have an appointment scheduled for it after I called them yesterday to find out the status of the parts. I'm hopeful this will be resolved and I won't have to call them again.
Description of Work: We called Polhamus back in the Spring (of 2011) when we suspected a probelm with our system as our Electric bill had nearly doubled. They came out and did a check and said everything was working fine. When we turned on the AC in June, it couldn't keep up with the first day that was 80 degrees here. So we called them back. This time they found a leak. The technician told us that leak had been there for several months and was there when the first guy came. So I had to fight with them to not charge us for the 2nd visit as they should have found it the first time. The billing lady was rude to me and told me with a system that age it is bound to leak. At this time I told her our system is two years old. She didn't know what to say to me then (as she wronly assumed I had an old system). Two weeks later we had water leaking through our light fixture that is right near the unit (as it is in the attic). My husband went up there to find that the drain pipe fitting coming out of the unit was cracked. The only reason this would be cracked is if it was stepped on. So, we called Polhamus back again, this time on a weekend. We told him what fitting to bring and he fixed it very quickly. After a conversation with the office lady, they agreed not to charge us for this visit. When that tech was there, he told me our unit wasn't level. So I called the company who installed the unit (not Polhamus) and they agreed to come and level it for us. When they came (another 2 weeks later) I was told it was barely off, but that the duct work was sagging. Then he told me there was water up there. I told him it had been 2 weeks since the fitting was replaced and it shouldn't be wet still. So he started looking around and found that the guy who came to replace the broken fitting (that the 2nd tech stepped on) over tightend it and broke the drain pan to the coil. So, they are now scheduled to come and replace the coil and drain pan. I am very nervous to have them in my attic gain. The only reason I'm letting them do this is it will cost me $500 if I call someone else to do it and they have aggreed to replace it for free labor (the parts are under warranty). So, although they are agreeing to pay for stuff, I'm never calling them again.
