The owner came out to give an estimate and made us a good deal if we agreed to use paint he had left over from another job. I showed him all of the areas around the outside of our home that was chipped and peeling. I explained my frustration about how the last owner had only painted over the flaking areas instead of scraping and patching them appropriately. I told him I wanted it fixed correctly and I do not think the previous type of fix was ok. He wrote "paint 2 colors outside" on the estimate and a cost of 2600.00. We agreed to use the paint he had on hand and the color turned out very well. Once I agreed to go with his company a lack of communication seemed to begin. I was told the job would begin on Monday but no workers showed. I called late that day and was told the job was not set to begin until Tuesday. The owner had two workers come out to prep the home. I was concerned with the small amount of scraping that was done but assumed they would pressure wash the house the next day. This was NOT done and the house was painted. I called the owner with my concerns because to me this seemed like just a "paint over" and I was disappointed that more was not done to fix all of the cracking and flaking areas. I was told that they do not pressure wash before painting because the wood would not dry out. (It was in the high 90's - 100's for two weeks by this time) I waited two weeks to see what the paint would do (there was some bubbling happening) and then I called the owner back. I told him that there were cracks in the new paint and that I would like HIM to come to our home and walk around and inspect his workers work. I told him I was not satisfied with the scrapping that was done. He said "ok". He called me a few days later to ask if he could come out to finish the touch-up painting. I agreed and thanked him. I was disappointed to see the original two workers show up instead of the owner. I walked the workers around the home and showed them my concerns. They were polite but basically stated that I expected too much as this is what is typical when you hire someone to paint your home. I did not accept this statement as I had spoken directly to the owner about my expectations during the initial estimate. I just feel like there was a large breakdown in communication throughout this project. The owner and staff are very polite but I feel my house was not painted in the manor I was expecting. I could have done this type of paint job myself and saved a few thousand dollars. I suppose it is partially my fault since I did not get any wording written into the estimate about scrapping and prep work.
