They put on a new roof for us. It is recycled rubber that looks like slate. This has a 50 year guarantee and they provided that warranty for us. It took them about a day and a half to put that on; they did not have to tear anything off. They had very good clean up as well. They were efficient and did their job fast and well. We chose to get an expensive roof and they able to special order that for us. They are the only dealer of the product in the area.

very nice folks, from the schedulers to the workers to the followup ensuring all went well. wonderfully, they worked with us on our specific requests re possible date and time for the work, as we'd been going in and out of town caregiving family. and afterwards, they sent someone to check the skylight work at our request. always wish prices were lower :-) , but this was the best quality we could hope for by far!

Contacted State Roofing about replacing the boots, waited several weeks, even going by the business and talking to them about the job. Finally received a phone message back saying they were going to be in the area at the end of the week and could do the work then. Called them back and left a message saying that would be fine. They never showed up or called for the rest of the week. Called them again on Monday to find out if they were going to be coming out any time soon. They said something came up and would be out during the week. On Wednesday I received a call - the repairman was sitting in the driveway. After finally getting them out, the job went good. He quickly replaced all 4 boots, gave me an opportunity to look at the finished job, and added additional sealant to insure no leakage. He was very friendly and professional, even taking the old boots back to the office to show that they were not installed properly when State Roofing installed them originally (the downslope end should not have been stapled down to allow for expanding). I understand this was not a big money job, but feel they should respond faster, especially for a repeat customer.
Description of Work: Wanted the 4 vent boots replaced due to rubber detrition after 17 years. One of the vent boots was allowing minor leakage into the attic.

Nice job. Did a great job with attention to doors and windows. Placed metal flashing above each window and door. Barely noticiable but should limit any water intrusion. Cleaned up daily and did not destroy the wifes landscaping. Some confusion over the bill because of a change order, but was cleared up soon. They completed the job quickly, did not take forever, they had enough staff to get the job done.
Description of Work: Removed old siding, added plywood sheeting (shear walls) and resided with primed Hardi board. Replaced a porch support beam and the base of the other two with composite material. Two story house.

I should start by saying that I was waayyy too tired to deal with the estimator/salesman on the day I did and should have rescheduled or something. Also the level of tiredness should have been setting off alarm bells in my head. -- I Ignored all of them that did go off. Practically had to beg the guy (Philip) who came out to give me a quote; to give me a number. Took so much effort to get one number for a specific type of roof, that even though I would have liked to have a second roof type quoted I gave in and just ran with the first quote. Barely glanced at existing roof other than to determine (and identify the) that it was a material known to have a serious defect greatly reducing the roof's life expectancy. Second contact to sign paperwork for the loan for the roofing cost I didn't want to cover out of pocket again took a bunch of effort to organize. Original work scope did not include removal of the existing roofing material, because it is possible to install a new metal roof over existing shingle roofing. When roofing foreman came out to do the and quot;critical measurementand quot; he determined that based on the roof's condition there was no way to install over existing material while providing a satisfactory result. He had and quot;laid the proposal to modify the contract on management's deskand quot; for approval before contacting me. The modification was: and quot;Remove existing roofing material at no additional cost.and quot; Which I did not find out about until 2 weeks later on the day they were obtaining the city work permit. Barely heard from them for 2 weeks until the day they were at the city office to and quot;pull the permitsand quot;. They called to see if it would be convenient for them to drop off a modification to the work order. They dropped it off for me to sign and send/fax back to them. Another two weeks would go by before I heard from them again. Actual work progress: Contacted me late the afternoon before they wanted to start the work to tell me they were coming out the next day and quot;if that was okayand quot;; it was very evident that they were not really asking. Next morning a 5 person work crew showed up to start tearing off the old roof. About an hour later a 6th guy showed up to help with the roof removal, and to 'run the roof panels'. First day of installation I almost did not realize that there was anyone there working on the roof since there was no company truck in front of my house. Second install day the installer 'ran out of clips', and that was enough reason for him to leave for the day. Third day the installed brought a co-worker along with and they arrived in a company truck. As I was leaving for work I heard them talking which was how I found out about the 'running out of clips'. Fourth day at some point the installer 'blew the circuit for the outside electric plug' - again this was enough reason to call it a day. How did I find out he had tripped the circuit breaker well he left a note page stuck in the front door jamb. No call to me, no apparent call to the office; or the office couldn't be bothered to contact me. Fifth and final day of installation. he showed up with a generator strapped in the bed of his personal truck. The 'final' result that was on my roof that evening looked unfinished enough that I wasn't sure if they were done or not. So the next day I called the company scheduling office and asked very specifically if and quot;the installers thought they were work completeand quot; got a completely different answer that didn't satisfy my question but implied that yes they thought they were done. In less than an hour after my call the foreman called me back on his day off to try to answer my questions. Two days later the foreman came out to do his 'final inspection' and explain to me why the result looked the way it did. The roof seams look like they were done by an amateur. They are uneven and wobbly looking like a child or someone who can't draw a straight line did them. From a professional roofing company that shows pictures of the roof seams being sealed with a tool I would expect a much more consistent result. The building inspector signed off on the roofing portion of the work but forced them to come back out and demonstrate that they had done the sheeting correctly; since they had 'skipped' that inspection which was required between removing the roof and starting the install of the new roof. It took them five (5) weeks to get that inspection done. I don't even think the ink was dry on the inspection form before they were calling me to sign the 'disbursement form'. When I did not answer their call today (I was in a meeting at work) they left a message stating that if I didn't call them back they were going to 'call the home owner' and would lien my house. My roof is no where near finished having work done. I am looking at having to rip the entire thing off, and replace it again to obtain a satisfactory result. I will NOT be contacting this company to do the replacement. Overall communication and professionalism: Every attempt to contact me starts with: and quot;Is this and lt;my nameand gt;?and quot; or and quot;Is and lt;my nameand gt; there?and quot; like they were calling their friend or something; they don't even mention (say) that they are calling from a company of any sort. When I respond by asking who they are the reply always sounds as if they are being put out having to tell me who they are. No one in the company office seems to know anything about what is or was happening with my roof installation.
Description of Work: Removed old roof and installed a new metal roof. Took nearly 4 days to install the new roof. Only took 1 day to rip off old roof; probably because they sent 5 guys out to tear it off. The roofing install was completed by one guy working by himself over 5 partial days. Advertised one product and installed a different result.

Response from STATE ROOFING INC
We contracted with the member in April of 2013 to install a new standing seam roof on the home at (address removed) in Kent. The work has been completed. She is now stating that the panel we contracted to install is not the panel that we did install. The work order calls for installation of an SR 150 standing seam panel. This is the roofing material that we did install. Also, the homeowner was exploring installing solar panels with another company immediately after our roofing was installed. The SR 150 panel is the correct and only panel we install that complements a solar panel installation. (There are clips that attach solar panels to standing seam roofing that only work with the SR 150 style of panel.) So we are very clear that the correct panel was ordered and installed. In addition, the roofing needed a one layer tear off and we wrote an addendum after the initial contract to remove this extra layer at no additional cost to the homeowner—and again we stated the SR 150 roofing panel would be used in the installation. A permit was obtained and an inspection with the city was scheduled and approved. We are frankly confused as to what we have done wrong. The job was installed professionally and looks very good and is the material that was ordered for the job. At this point we have not received any payments at all on this project—and would like to reach resolution. We are now being asked to tear off the properly contracted and installed roofing material—and that all of this material and labor cost be absorbed by our company. We look forward to resolving this issue. We would suggest that a meeting be scheduled with all of the parties to attempt to understand each other’s issues and points of view and find a reasonable way to conclude this project. Sincerely, Lance Smith State Roofing

Salesman came well prepared with samples and literature. He failed to physically check the existing roof but provided a cost on site at that time which was 33% higher than the next lower bid. The salesman was very polite, curteious and well versed in roofing. He did not however ever follow-up on his sales call?

Couldn't get a fair price-no work.
Description of Work: The estimator/sales person was inexperienced in roofing and simply a salesperson with a tape measure. Any company who offers a "special deal only if you sign now" which obviously doesn't allow for competitive bidding, or even a night to "sleep on" a $20K decision isn't professional or trustworthy. When they made a follow-up sales call I communicated that based on their sales representative I'd never do business with them and to remove my name from their sales list. I've received two sales calls since that time. Apparently they are so inept, or careless, they can not even respect one's request for privacy.

It went well. They were willing to accomodate me, as I wanted to do some of the work myself. The framing around the old windows wasn't done well, I replaced the Headers and redid the King studs. They gave me the measurements they needed for the new windows and I reframed the openings to their specs. Unfortunately I wasn't plumb with one of my studs. Nick the installer gave me some good natured grief about my framing skills - pointed out what was wrong and then quickly fixed my goof. The install went fast and was very well done.

Went very well. The sales meeting was on time and an accurate quote. They were very reasonable and flexible in scheduling the work, when some other projects I wanted completed prior to the new roof got delayed. I replaced my old roof as part me getting a solar panel system installed. They have a good relationship with Sun Energy, my solar contractor and coordinated with them that the roof I selected was a good match for the solar system I was getting. The work was done well and on time. The work crews were very professional. The tear down crew dealt with the concerns of a neighbor on debris possibly reaching her gardens. She was so pleased with their effort, she baked them cookies. I am very pleased with their work and have since used them to replace some windows.
Description of Work: Stripped off 2 top layers of old comp roof and base layer of cedar shingles. Took down chimney below roof line ( we converted to natural gas heating & no longer need / use chimney). Removed old gutters. Repaired/replaced rotten soffit areas. I contacted them to give me a quote on the roof of my house. I knew they did financing so I wanted to find out the cost. I was naive going into this meeting and they prayed on it. the guy was sitting in my place like he was my dad shooting the sh*t. I didn't realize he was trying to get me to sign on the dotted line now so I could then be stuck in a contract with them until he left. He called me back numerous times but I didn't need to talk to him any further to know I wouldn't use this company. To top it off, they called me about 3 months later wanting to come back to give me another quote. Why would I have you return if you overquoted me the first time?

State did a nice job on my roof and I think I would use them again. Overall, they did it pretty quickly though there were some hiccups getting Sam out for the estimating. Recently, I sold the home and there were some roofing and quot;issuesand quot; which came up on the home inspection and none of them were really in error from State however, they did come out and and quot;correctand quot; several items free of charge. My only issue was a lack of communication in this process...calls weren't returned and no status updates on when they would be performing the corrections but they did do the work. Thanks.

I bought a 30 year roof from State Roofing a long time ago (20 years in 1992) and my roof has a leak so i thought i would call them since they installed it originally. They did not respond by returning my message after my 1st attempt to talk to them about about the leak. I called back to try again they said that they had lost the paperwork on my roof and someone would get back to me, and i did not hear back so i wrote an email. In the mean time I found my paperwork and gave them the job number off the invoice from 1992. I think it was about 3 weeks later from my initial call that Sam called me back and he seemed very unprofessional. Saying that they would charge to come out, and I told them that then i do not want them to come out if they would not give a free estimate. He agreed to come out. He said that there is 5 years warranty on labor, ok, and that they do not have or find the paperwork for the warranty on the singles. In the mean time I had several roofers come out to look at my roof and everyone of them said that the roofs venting was installed incorrectly, that the roof located over my cathedral ceiling had no venting at all and that the skylights were flashed incorrectly. I called Sam back and cancelled our appointment. I do not want to deal with State Roofing, even though I will probably end up replacing my roof.

The work while a bit pricey was performed very well. The designer helped us to upgrade the decking materials to a better product and had the design include railing to match the existing deck. The carpenter did an excellent job of clearing out the old deck and then putting in the new one. All accomplished in just a few days. We had a problem with one of the boards cracking where it was screwed down and State Roofing was prompt in sending out the carpenter to fix it. Our new deck is beautiful. Thank you State Roofing.
Description of Work: Complete replacement of 2/3rds of our deck. The old deck was demolished and material was hauled off. New piers and understructure were put in, then decking was screwed down and new railing with 2 sets of steps out into our yard added to finish the project.

I was very satisfied with my experiance with State Roofing. They worked with me to schedule this job in between other upgrades that were going on at my home at the same time. Their crews worked hard and were experianced at their job. I would have no hesitation in recommending State Roofing to any of my friends.
Description of Work: Old tar and gravel roof was removed and a new metal roof installed. The removal was accomplished in one day as was the clean up. The crew worked hard and the clean up afterwords was very satisfactory. Approximately (13) sheets of plywood had to be replaced before the new roof could be installed and that was accomplished on the second day. Detail measurements were taken and the entire roof was covered with the vapor barrier. Early on the morning of day three a different crew showed up with the ''metal'' machine. This machine is used to form the metal pieces that are then installed on the roof. The raw material that comes in is flat and in a large roll which is fed into the ''metal'' machine. My home has a number of different slopes on the roof and each piece of metal had to be trimmed differently to accomodate that condition. All the metal installation was accomplished by one individual and his skill and attention to detail was second to none.

After searching for the source of a leak from our roof which was dripping inside the house, we finally called State Roofing who had installed our roof several years ago. We suspected that skylight but could not find evidence that it was the source. They came out several times when it was raining and checked out the roof. Finally after diligent searching they determined that the source was the skylight. We had a new skylight installed which was bigger than our original one. And they installed additional framing to complete the project. We are very pleased with the results. The service was thorough, courteous and professional.
Description of Work: Searched for source of leak from our roof. Found that the existing skylight was the problem. Installed new skylight.
