First off, this is the second experience I've had with Haas Heating; the first was about a year ago when our (stellar) plumber recommended him to us to come out and run a to-code air intake on our newer gas furnace that was installed by the prior owner. In both instances, I admit that the quality of the work performed was above average and the first experience led us to re-hire him for this project. Where he garners low marks, in my opinion, is failure to communicate and his utter lack of professionalism. To start with, he quoted $500 to install the insert and said he would come out with a friend to do the install. The first "red flag" was that it took him several attempts to actually make it out, and he kept rescheduling (though all the rescheduling and communication regarding the scheduling was prompted by me...I gave him the benefit of the doubt as it was around the holidays and a busy contractor generally is a better contractor...or so I thought). When installation day finally arrived, he sent out his brother-in-law and another guy instead. Not a big deal, at least at first. Although I had communicated to him that we needed both the gas line ran and the fireplace installed, he called me after his guys arrived and stated that his quote was only for the fireplace, not the gas line. Again, benefit of the doubt, and I asked him for an updated quote. He told me that he'd have to wait to hear from his guys on the cost of the materials they had to go pick up. All told, there were a couple of valves, some short lengths of pipe/fittings and about 30 feet of flexible gas line involved. His guys spent about 5-6 hours doing the work, which again was above average and they were generally tidy. However, when they were finished, they asked my wife for a check for $1200 (she was working from home; I was at work). She called me to see if that sounded right. Because he had initially sent her the $500 quote in a text, and I didn't recall exactly the quote off the top of my head, I called Scott. He confirmed that that was the price and that in increase was due to the material costs and additional labor. It wasn't until I got home that evening and had a chance to sit down with my wife that we realized how much of a jump the price was. I immediately texted him to say that we were happy with the work but that the cost jump was unexpectedly high. What followed ultimately led to this negative review. He called me about 20 minutes after receiving my text and spent about 15 minutes on the phone. He spent the bulk of the conversation making excuses, whining about "only making $300 on this job" when he usually tries to make about $500 a day using his brother-in-law and other subs and telling me that the cost of materials was a few hundred dollars (this, after I pointed out that I could have purchased 75 feet of the flex line from Home Depot for $175). He also complained the cost of "wear and tear" on the van, having to put gas in it, etc. At one point, he asked me if I wanted the "$300 [he] made today" back. I was flabbergasted by his complete lack of professionalism during the conversation and it wasn't until the end when I finally told him that I honestly understand what it takes to run a small business (I run one myself) but that wasn't my point in saying something to him. My point was that the cost was over 100% higher than what he originally quoted and that he did a poor job at communicating why this was. He finally apologized for his failure to communicate and I finished the conversation by saying I wasn't going to cancel the check but that I would like a detailed invoice, with labor and material break downs and copies of the receipts for materials his guys had to pick up to do the job. After several weeks of sending him follow up texts (did I mention that the phone number I have for him is a cell phone without a voice mailbox set up and so the only way to leaving him a message was via text?) and several more broken commitments ("I'll get it to you tomorrow" followed by "Oops, I'll do it tonight" followed by "I'll sent it right when I get to the office, what's your email address") he finally dropped in our mailbox a month after I first asked for it. No receipts, no breakdown. Just a "installed gas line and fire place" with absolutely no detail whatsoever. I texted him (again). No response. Again, the work that Haas Heating performed was well done, when it was finally done. But I wouldn't hire him again for any future projects based on my project and have already contacted a few people whom I had previously referred to him for work to let them know about my recent experience.

They did a great job then ... coordinating with Exact Electric so that the new electrical panel and the heat pump installation could be done at the same time. They planned carefully, did exactly what they said they'd do, and cleaned up extremely well. Last winter the Haas crew did the annual checkup on the equipment ... again, coming when promised and doing a good job. When our electric heat fan had problems and then failed about a month ago, Scott Haas came first to check the problem (and the equipment worked just fine when he was here). When it died the next day, he had his crew here within a day with the correct part and did the warranty replacement promptly. An extra note, Scott also went out of his way to help me with a heavy box while he was here ... nothing to do with the heat pump. Just a very appreciated moment of assistance. We are very happy with both the heat pump and service and would recommend Haas Heating.

Scott and Dave did a fantastic job. They were everything you would hope a contractor would be: responsive, respectful, on time, and professional. They gave us our options and were able to replace our furnace the next day. Our experience with HASS Heating was very, very good and I would recommend that before you call anyone else - call Scott.xt mornign
Description of Work: Our gas furnace stopped working on a Monday afternoon. I called HASS Heating the next morning. Tha afternoon Scott and Dave were early and called to insure it was ok to come by then. The furnace was 23 years old and we knew it was time to replace. We had them replace the furnace the next day.

Scott was great to work with. He came over to the house to look at the work and gave me an estimate right away. He explained how he got his numbers, and he arranged for the work the following week. He and David showed up promptly, and worked quickly. He explained exactly what he was doing as he did the work. The work went great, with no hiccups.

We were able to use the system right after they installed it and it is working very well. We feel nice and comfortable. We are very pleased with them. They explained everything to us about the air conditioner. I understood that we would be able to use it and would benefit from it. They did a very good job and we are very happy with them. They are very easy to work with and we would recommend them to anybody. They seem to be very honest and a very good company as well. They are excellent and knowledgeable. I thought that the price was very good and so was the quality. The air conditioning unit was about $4000 and the furnace was a little bit more. We were very satisfied and we would definitely use their services in the future too.
Description of Work: Haas Heating installed a new furnace for us about 6 months ago. We also had them put in an air conditioning unit about a month ago.

Scott and his team did an excellent job. A/C was installed in one day, that the team was very professional and consiencious about their work. Will definately do business with again for rountine maintenance services of our furnance and A/C.
Description of Work: Haas Heating installed A/C in our home. We selected Scott because his bid was reasonable and he was honest about the cost/benefits of different priced units. He did not try to sell us something we didn't need.

After getting bids from four vendors, I selected Haas heating because they were very competitive and had by far the best knowledge of what we needed to do. Our furnace is in a very tight spot in the middle of the house, which makes it a bit complicated in terms of exhaust venting. After evaluating a number of different approaches, Scott came up with a great recommendation. It was also a bit tricky because the previous owner had not bought the correct type of air conditioner. He was able to work around that and make the furnace work well anyway. He did a great job with the installation. Because the filter is very tricky to get to, he also installed filters in the air intake registers, and only charged us cost for parts on that part of the work. Scott and his team were very knowledgable, clean, and worked quickly to help us get our furnace in at the start of winter season. He also installed the furnace of a friend of our and they were very happy with his work as well.

Overall, I was impressed with Scott's service. He was there from day one on doing the estimate and also did nearly the whole job with another guy. I did have to contract an electrician to do the electrical work and pulled my own permits, but the extra work for me was good in saving costs and making sure quality electrical work was done. There were a couple of issues that slowed the job. One, the wrong furnace was delivered and the other was just the timing of everything for inspection and the gas piping to be installed. I think it delayed everything by almost a week so that was hard to go through considering I was working and had to shuffle shifts. Scott was very informative in his work and made sure I was aware of any issues that came up and the plan to make it work. I received estimates from 5 other companies and his estimate was typically 15-20% lower than everyone else, so that was great.

Scott was very professional and was able to install the new system very quickly. We wanted the new R-410A system with the new refrigerant rather than the soon to be banned R-22, and even though he had not done very many of them, he and his crew were able to get the system and all the parts necessary for the R-410A type and get it done. Scott was very prompt and his crew was very conscious of keeping the noise and disruption to a minimum. Everything went well and we are enjoying our new A/C system. We would recommend Haas to all our friends.
