My roof was 21 years old—not yet leaking but certainly past its prime, looking tired and worn. I got 3 bids and chose Star Roofing based on the fair price, the Certainteed product, and referrals from two friends. Kris is knowledgeable and took the time to answer my many questions. After doing some research I chose the Ridgevent external baffle shingle vent system for better roof venting than regular roof vents, and the high profile hip and ridge which look amazing. My roof was done in two days and the crew cleaned up the yard well. I can’t get over the dramatic improvement in curb appeal. I highly recommend Star Roofing.

I am a reasonable person and expected to pay something toward the repair, but I have not been contacted by anyone after numerous calls asking to have the repair made.

I called them 4 times. Each time I was told that their repair person was out of the office but they'd have him call me. I was never contacted. The 5th time I called they gave me the name of another company -- I contacted them and they provided much better service, but they don't do repairs. I would give Star's customer service a very low grade.

Communicated clearly, professionally done, clean up was immaculate.

The Star Roofing crew and dumpster arrived when promised. Being a small house and a three person crew, the roof was easily done in a day. The workers were friendly and our renter and my husband and I couldn't be more pleased with the new roof. Thank you Star Roofing and Kris.

After filling out an on-line form through Angie's list, I had no response. After a week went by I called and left a detailed message. I never heard back.

2 weeks before we were to head out of town for 2 weeks for our wedding, the skylight in our livingroom started leaking! We called around to multiple roofing companies to ask for help, but no one could come estimate and do the repair in two weeks. That was true until we called Star Roofing. They came out to estimate the repair within a few days after our initial call. The man who came to estimate the repair was very nice and gave us some good information about our cedar roof. A few days later, the roof was fixed and we were soon off to our wedding and honeymoon without worry about coming home to a flooded living room. Thank you Star Roofing. When we do replace our roof we will be calling you first.

Kris, who is part of the family who owns the company, was great. He was knowledgeable, prompt, and professional. I felt that he had a lot of experience and knowledge and would have felt very comfortable hiring them. I got 8 bids for my 4000 sq. foot home with a very steep (12/12) pitch roof with 50 squares of roofing material. They came in tied for 2nd as far as pricing. I paid about $30k and they were $36k which was around the average quote. I would definitely recommend getting a bid from them. I think they would have done a very good job.

The work was done quickly and very well. We are very pleased with the look and with the job. Well done!

Communications with company were poor and roofers did not speak English. Yard, deck and shrubbery not protected as assured. Gutters were good before tear-off but now leaks at the seams. Looks like I will have to have gutters and downspouts replaced. During install, equipment caused a circuit breaker to flip. Lost power to the garage where I have my freezer. Crew did not report the loss of power and I only discovered it late in evening when I went into the garage. I feel that I paid a very high price for quality assured by my neighbors and Angie's list and am disappointed (i.e. several neighbors used this company and were very happy but apparently I needed a male presence to assure quality job). I was very happy with follow-up to my concerns. They went the extra mile to make sure my skylights and solar shades were working well. They also sealed some seams in my gutters and cleaned up irregular roof line and returned to clean up asphalt marks left on the deck by the tear off.

My first experience with Star Roofing was having an evaluation of the current roof. Kris came by and climbed up to the roof to thoroughly examine its existing condition. I felt he gave an accurate depiction of its current state and what my options were. At that point, I decided to replace the roof based upon the information presented. We then talked about the different options and I never felt pressured to pay for any unnecessary upgrades. At that time, I told them I need to look at other companies and get other estimates which they understood. Even during my evaluation period of other companies, I never got a hard sell and they basically gave me the time to decide whether to go with them or not. About two months later, I went for the mid quality with minimal decorative accents. At that point, things moved really quick. Basically, I got a call scheduling the the roof replacement the next week after I put a deposit down. The first day they came earlier than expected (very punctual) and removed the old roof and laid out the barrier lining along with replacing any rotted cedar board. When working around the skylights, they was expected debris that fell inside the house, I wish they warned us ahead of time so I could laid down a tarp for easy cleaning later. The second day they came with a crane and hauled a pallet of shingles on the roof on a make shift platform. It was a little disconcerting as it did shake the house with great force and I wish they warn us ahead of time. At that point, they put on the new shingles which took two days. All in all, it took 3 days total. I am quite pleased with the quality of the work. It looked great. I appreciated how it fast the process was and how they cleaned up after themselves. All in all a good experience. I would definitely recommend them for roofing to friends and family.

I own a rental property and my tenant called me saying the roof was leaking over the garage and onto the electronics so I immediately sought out to find a good roof repair company. The A rating on Angie's list was what originally led me to Star Roofing & Construction. I called them the same day my tenant called, which was a Monday. I got a friendly receptionist who took my information and said someone would call me that day. Great! Monday: No call. Tuesday: No call. The tenant called again on Wednesday understandably worried about the leak. So I called Star Roofing back and mentioned that no one had called. The receptionist politely said they must have gotten busy but she would leave another note to call. I asked her to place some importance on it and gave the tenant's number directly. She took it down and said no problem. Great! Wednesday: No call (to myself or tenant). I called back on Thursday. Got the same receptionist who made the same apology and said she would make sure we got a call this time. Okay good. My tenant was upset at this point, and rightly so. But I assured them we'd be getting a call from Star Roofing shortly. Thursday: No call (to myself or tenant). I called back on Friday, annoyed. The receptionist apologized again and said she would personally speak to the tech and make sure I got a call. Okay. Friday: No call (to myself or tenant). I called again on Monday morning, very annoyed this time. Got the same receptionist who told me the same story. This time she offered me her personal word that not only would she ensure I got a call today, but that she personally would call me back in the afternoon before close of business to make sure this was taken care of. Monday: No call (to myself or tenant). This was over a week ago - and still no call as of the time of this review. I have since moved on and contacted another roofing company. Okay, I get that there have been floods and a lot of companies are busy. But there is no excuse whatsoever for how this company does (or rather does NOT do) business. Not only did their service people not return my calls, but the same receptionist who I spoke to 5 times and who offered me her personal word that she would call me back -- also failed to do so. 5 times. I was extremely calm and friendly during every conversation with the receptionist. I never raised my voice nor insulted anyone. On the last two calls I was annoyed, but nevertheless I was very diplomatic. I will leave it to you to draw your own conclusion from the experience I've presented. However, I can assure you that I will never recommend nor do business with this company again.

At first I was just excited to get them out to our house with a leaky roof. After the first real storms in early November everyone was really busy. They were able to get out quickly to give us a diagnosis. I got a call from John who said the roof looked fine and that with a little cleanup we should be ok. The gutters needed cleaning and the storms had left debris and pine needles all over the roof. He quoted me $250 to clean off the roof and gutters. I gave the go ahead with the contingency that if the roof continued to leak we could apply the $250 to future repairs. I was a little skeptical and found out later from our tenant that they never even entered the house to see where the water was coming in. About a week later when the rain came back the leak came back. I called Star Roofing and was told that someone would be contacting me soon. I called multiple other companies because everyone was really busy with the foul weather. After I hadn't heard from them for about a week I called again. Same story. They were really busy but would call back when they could. Never heard back. I called one final time but by this point had managed to get three other companies to come out and take a look. It turns out the roof is in it's final stages and 3 different people have suggested the roof be replaced. A simple returned phone call would've been greatly appreciated.

I have a torch down roof put on by a different contractor just before we bought our house last year. Whoever put our roof on didn't do a stellar job of sealing everything. With the heavy rain, water started seeping in at the vents and seams. I called Star Roofing this morning and asked them to take a look. They were able to come out in a few hours and reseal all the vents and seams. I didn't want to redo the roof, just shore it up a bit. I was very happy with the quick service and the reasonable cost. Thank you for making my coming holidays brighter!

Called on Thursday Morning for a leak that happened during the storm. They stated they would be able to come out on Friday at 1:00. I took 1/2 day off work to meet with them. 1:00 comes around and no show. So at 2:00 I called and they said the crew was on the way and they should be at the house in about 5 min. Still waiting at 3:00, called and the person stated that the crew is in Marysville and will be at the house, now. At 4:00 still no show, it was getting dark so I told them to forget it!

We did get few quotes. They were the best and fastest. Did hire them and it was all good. Will use them any day.

I had contacted several roofing contractors and compared prices, their presentation, their warranty and whether their proposal would meet my needs. From the very start I was very pleased with Star Roofing. They were very prompt in coming out to make a presentation and give me an estimate. Their staff person (Kris) was very easy to work with, listened to what I wanted and was willing to work with me, even willing to do at no additional cost minor repairs that were not directly related to the roofing project. He made the best presentation, addressed all of my roofing needs, gave the best price and offered a superior warranty for their work, compared to the others I had contacted. When they came out to do the job, they were punctual, brought a full crew and were fully ready to begin work immediately. They had sent a dumpster in advance and began the tear-down as soon as the crew arrived. They were careful to protect my plantings and other parts of my property and were scrupulous in cleaning up after themselves. Start to finish it was a two-day job, with the exception of detail work that needed to be done to my front porch roof (which was included at no additional charge). They sent a man out on the third day to finish the porch--in the rain--and the job was complete. All of their staff was professional and conscientious at all times and in all ways. They did everything that had been promised and in a manner that was entirely to my satisfaction. After the work was completed, Kris came out to inspect the job. He responded to all of my questions, even getting up on a ladder to address one of my specific questions. Final payment was not asked for until he was sure that all of my questions had been addressed to my satisfaction. Star Roofing is clearly about doing good work and their goal is to have a satisfied customer, which I am. A few months later I had a new concern and they sent out someone to once again look at the roof and at my specific concern. He assured me that the job had indeed been done correctly and as they had said it would be. I got the clear impression that if I had further questions at a later time, they would be glad to send someone out again. I would recommend Star Roofing to others with no hesitation. They did excellent work and, I believe, gave me the best value for my money.

This is a mixed review although based on the company's current staffing, I would highly recommend them. Last Fall I called Star Roofing to repair a leaking skylight. They came out and identified a few potential areas that could be the problem and repaired them. Unfortunately this didn't solve the problem as it started to leak again this winter. Once again they came out (free of charge) to fix it again. Once I felt comfortable it was fixed, I hired someone to repair the drywall and repaint the inside this Spring. So come the May rain, it leaked again!!! I called and spoke to Jimmy who was incredibly responsive. He explained that the company had done some reorganization so now have more experienced staff. I shared my situation and he came out immediately, diagnosed the problem (need wider metal sheathing around the skylight to divert water) and fixed it at no charge. No questions asked. He then explained that our second skylight would need the same repairs, otherwise it would eventually leak. I approved it and he came out as soon as his schedule allowed (within a week) and repaired that skylight. Given their current staffing, I highly recommend them.

We called quite a few roofers, none of whom were interested in our small job. Star call us right back and sent some one out that same day. The roofing expert was polite. Got up on our slate roof, took up about 6 tiles, found the problem, applied caulk and fixed the problem. He took pictures and explained what he did. It was well worth the minimum charge of $250. We were so relieved and felt like they cared.

Star Roofing's response was okay. We had a leak in the skylight and found out that the cover had blown off during a wind storm. The repair person screwed it back on. I never received a bill and honestly, I had forgotten about it. Today, March 26, a bill finally came. The date of service was highlighted and there was a note "Please pay upon receipt" The reason for my poor rating is the fact that it took them 3 months to send the bill, then act like I am dragging my feet paying it. That made me pretty upset. I would have paid the totally overpriced service call right away if they would have had there act together. Star Roofing! Get the money right when the service is performed like everybody else does. Not a happy camper!!!

They did a good job. Good interaction. Work was good.

We own a townhouse, which is one-half of a duplex. Our property is two-stories; the other half of the duplex is mixed, with 1/2 a single story and the other half a 2-story. The entire duplex needed a new roof. We knew our roof was in better shape than the other half of the building. Star was great at responding quickly to our initial call, getting back to us within one day. We made an appointment, and the rep showed up on time. We talked about the work needed, and I explained we were taking bids. The rep wanted to know who else was bidding. I found that odd; to me, if you are going to make a bid, make it without needing to know who else is bidding. When I explained our situation-needing to roof the entire property-we discussed the process. When I raised the possibility that we might need to have each property re-roofed in two-phases (the owner of the other property was facing heavy financial issues, and was considering using a different roofer to save money if needed), I was told by the Star rep that the roof material manufacturer would negate any warranty since the property would be roofed by two different companies. I looked into this and found that it was not true. Then we discussed materials. The Star rep provided a sample board of different material, which he said I could hold onto and share with my partner. Great! At this point, the Star rep went to measure the roof. He walked around our property, taking measurements of the property. Once he was done, he told me he'd prepare an estimate and send it to me. I asked if he was going to take an actual look at the roof, and he told me there was no need. He then packed up and left. He then sent me a estimate the next day. (He was the fastest to send us an estimate, which is commendable.) We went with a different company instead. Here's why: 1. The fact that the Star Roofing rep wanted to know who the other bidders were was a red flag to us. Every bidding process is a competition, and you should be confident to provide an estimate without caring who the other bidders are. Star was the only bidder to ask this info. 2. The warranty for your roof applies to the roof on your property, even if the property is only half of a duplex structure (at least in WA). Not all duplex-property owners replace the entire roof of the entire duplex at once. 3. Without actually looking at the roof, the Star rep didn't know the extent of damage to the duplex. Our neighbor's half of the structure had some bad damage, which required add'l work; the other bidders all inspected the roof by climbing on top and looking it over. And each of the other bids included the work needed to repair that half of the roof in their bids. 4. Star's bid did come in on par with the other bids. Lastly, we decided to go with another contractor. I called Star and left a message to that affect, and asking what we should do with the sample board of roofing materials that the rep left with me. Star never returned the call, and two months later I had to take the sample board to the dump. So, no I wouldn't send any business to Star Roofing.

Called for an estimate around the first of November. On November 4th Kris Pelan from Star came out to my house at the appointed time reviewed my roofing needs and within a couple of days returned to go over his estimate and reviewed their contract and what I could expect from his company. (very detailed) On 11-11-14 we selected the roofing material we wanted and signed the contract. Kris stated that they were about 3 to 4 weeks out and on 12-8-14 they completed my roof. They took great card to protect my home and property and protected my recently new drive way. Kris was very professional and gave me a high level of confidence that my project would be completed as agreed. His crews did a great job and the clean up exceeded my expectations.

Called on 10/23 for an emergency visit. Gave explicit instructions on where to look for leaks as I had discovered where they were in the crawl space. Visit was on time and as planned. After visit they promised a written estimate. Called two days later on a Sat. 10/25 to ask for estimate. They called back Monday 10/27 and Sam stated they were very busy and he would get me the estimate the next day. No worries, I totally understand the rainy season. Never heard a word from them. Called on Friday 10/31 4 days after they called me and asked for the estimate again and timing. Very kind receptionist told me I would now have to call someone else named Chris to get him up to speed on my issue, ask him for an estimate, and he would get back to me. No. I'm not chasing you guys all over to get an estimate you promised me. It's now almost two weeks later and Sam never called me with anything. I want to pay you! I really do. I just can't with the service, the responses, and lack of ownership like this. Moving onto another company.

We have a tri-level house, with very little space between the roof and the inside ceiling (no attic). The house is over 50 years old, so it presented some challenges, but Star took care of them as they came up, at no additional cost. I would recommend them to anyone! The date of service is a bit of a "guestimate" - because I don't remember exactly when the roof was done. It was about 3 years ago though, +/-!
