I really hate leaving a review that isnt stellar....however there were so many issues and I feel and hope that another person in my situation in the future will benefit from my experience. I called several contractors at the start of this project and I found a couple on Angies List and a couple on Craigslist. Since Rod/Bergley popped up on both, I gave him a call. He responded right away and was eager to start the project. I called him on a Wednesday and offered to havw him come do a walkthrough and possibly start on Monday, but he was pushy and came the next day instead. My husband walked him through everything that needed to be done and Rod gave us a price and away we went. My husband was initially put off because Rod ran out of gas on his way to us and arrived ery late, but we were happy to support a small business and he felt Rod was knowledgable. I first met him that Sunday and he was consistently from that point on very late. He was very sick and had trouble remembering what he was doing and made several mistakes (forgetting to screw in blocking before attaching drywall and having to remove it, etc.) He would text me several times a day pushing his arrival time back. The first few days he only stayed 4 or so hours at a time. He used my husbands tools (saw, utility knives, drills, drywall screws, paper, tape, etc.), and had us purchase and pick up drywall for him. I also made two separate trips to Home Depot for him because he didnt have what he needed. There was one issue on early on where a 2x4 stud was sticking out past the others and needed to be shaved down. I told him I'd shave it or my husband would that night and he could get started in the kitchen for now, but he refused. Instead the two of us shaved it down together while he complained that he might need to talk about the bid with my husband. Given his lack of punctuality and such, my husband wasn't thrilled and I agreed to cover the cost of the drywall in exchange. Rod is a friendly and awesome guy to chat with, he has great stories, but he isn't very professional. He came unprepared and consistently complained about gas. I felt that he should have turned down the job if it was too far, instead he made me feel like a horrible customer. I felt as if I had to clean up his messes and get or loan him everything he needed and asked for because he was the one doing me a favor. When I was home I assisted him for the duration and cleaned up for him after he left because I would feel awful after listening to him complain about how much he underbid the job all day. He also left a large piece of drywall the floor and walked all over it, when it broke, he blamed it on the quality of the drywall and left it there until I picked it up. His mudding looked fantastic and I was feeling much better about everything that had occured prior. My husband and I stressed to him the importance of the ceiling looking as if nothing had happened. He assured us he was the best. After he left, I spent the next day priming everything and unfortunately, the ceiling looked awful. He used lots of little pieces to patch it because he didnt want to ask my husband to help lift a sheet ( even though he had agreed to) and said he couldnt get a guy to drive up with him. Because of this, there were lots of taped and mudded joints in the patch. All of which can be seen now. Most of the other patches are flawless, so he is capable of great work, we just didnt get his best:( I contacted him about the ceiling and sent a picture.....he said he wouldnt be able to fix it for a few weeks. After talking with my husband for a time, we decided we would rather pay to have it fixed by a professional rather than have me assist and clean up after Rod again. He got spray texture everywhere...the toilets and kitchen cabinets.....it has been so much work getting it off of everything:/ He was in a real hurry to get texturing done and didn't want to take the time to move and secure plastic....it just blew me away! We have so many neighbors that need patches and work done.....he could have gained a lot of repeat business! Rod really seems like a wonderful person, however as a contractor our experience wasn't a very good one. I hope it was primarily due to how sick he was and that we just got him when he was off his game. We both felt that we shouldn't have had to ask him to come back and I have already contacted another contractor from Angies list to come fix his ceiling job. Unfortunaltely, every bid comes in at around $6-800 to fix the ceiling:( I really hope this was a rare thing and noone else has shared my experiences! In the event that isn't the case, I felt it was my responsibility to share my feelings with others.

Rod provided high quality pressure-treated deck boards. Attention to detail in refitting replaced deck boards was excellent, used custom made shims to align each one. Deck boards run on the diagonal so was extra work. Cleaned up debris and secured all materials and tools each day, very much appreciated since I have two dogs. Also appreciated that he was friendly and accommodating to the dogs so that I did not have to secure them indoors the whole time. Rod is sincerely dedicated to getting the job done right. Will be using again for some drywall repair and misc. handyman jobs.
Description of Work: Replaced 20 deck boards, a platform trim piece and 4 deck stairs.
