Arnott Construction Services

We have not yet begun the project due to scheduling and lead time on items, but we are under contract and plans are in place to begin the end of February. We have been very pleased with John Arnott and look forward to working with him to complete our project. I will definitely provide reviews when we are complete. Can't wait!!

A kitchen design plan was included in the big deal. He would not do the design unless I had the whole kitchen remodeled.

Arnott was great. After a full electric rewire we needed our basement ceiling repaired plus multiple holes patched and they did a fantastic job. Props to their cleaning service who came in after to clean up all the electric and dry wall dust.

Mr. Arnott and his company were the best construction and repair company we have ever worked with. From the estimate, to the communication and the performance work, everything was exceptional. The Arnotts went above and beyond and even provided some other services at our request which they were able to help us with. They came in right at the estimate for time and money, something I've rarely experience when working with home repairs. From the beginning the communication was very good. We received an estimate and many helpful recommendations. They also helped us do some additional work that made sense at the time and yet they also talked us out of some work that didn't make sense to do. I found them fair and honest and I really enjoyed worked with the Arnotts. The conclusion of the project was exactly the day they said it would be done. They left our house clean and well looked after and frankly, I feel like they pulled off a bit of a miracle, you can't even tell that there was ever a problem with the doorway. I can't say enough great things about Mr. Arnott and his company. I would absolutely do business with them again.

The project went quite well and we are very pleased with the results. We?re happy with the quality of the work. We got several bids for the job and John?s was the lowest. The project came in on budget! John was flexible and worked with us to stay within our budget when changes needed to be made. The job did not finish on time, but the delay was due to a flooring change we made, not the contractor?s fault. John?s crew consisted of his father, sister and one other worker along with sub-contractors. It was nice to work with a family business. John promptly communicated with us via email, calls and in-person. We hope to use Arnott Construction for future jobs.

The contractor came out a few times and brought different people with him. I wasn't quite sure why there were so many people and so many visits and there didn't seem to be a clear layout expert, there were two cabinet people, one designer and then the contractor. They provided a number of good ideas which I appreciated. The schematic that I received however, was not a 3D rendering, it was more a 2D layout with dimensions. I was a bit disappointed in that, but I really appreciated all the ideas and discussion. When the time comes for a kitchen remodel, I will have some good ideas for how to layout my challenging kitchen configuration.

I wasn't impressed. They started out and then took forever to get everything to me. That took about 2 months. The idea in the way they advertised showed that they were to give a 3D plan for a kitchen or a bathroom remodel. They came out with the assumption that they wanted to do a remodel but all I wanted was a plan. The final product did not explain the scope of the work. It was unsatisfactory. The communication wasn't great. It was good in the sense that I did not lose a lot of money. If they could not come up with a plan, I'm not sure I can use them as a contractor.

John Arnott was great. I didn't end up using him, but if I need his services again, I will definitely call him.

The estimate was very thorough and the guy really knew what he was doing. The price was also competitive but I chose another co. just because they had already setup a lot of the work already, structural engineer but I could have easily picked Arnott instead and may have been just as happy.

John and his crew did excellent work, and were a pleasure to work with. John was easy to work with and very responsive to our ideas and changes. He was always cheery and positive and his pricing was fair and reasonable. We added some work as the job went along but he was good about giving us pricing for the changes we made and the total cost was as we had agreed.

Time was at a premium for us and were not able to go to the showroom. Rather than drawing a plan, we felt he was obliging us to hire him for the complete remodel. We were not ready to actually do the remodel, simply wanted an idea to see if it really is feasible.

Received refund since services not provided.

The design wasn't exactly what I thought. They were very nice and professional and I am actually having him come back in a few days for another estimate.

My wife is planning to do a kitchen remodel sometime in 2016 and we purchased the $69 "Big Deal" in order to meet the contractor and get a drawing of the proposed project. Due to the "big Deal" purchase being made during the holiday season we asked the contractor to delay the site visit until mid-January. This delay also gave us time to give further consideration as to what we wanted out of the remodel. The contractor came to the house with his "cabinet guy" to look at the site, discuss options, take measurements, and come up with a preliminary design drawing. I have to say the owner was very pleasant and seemed to understand the general overview of the job. We are now six weeks after this visit and have not received the drawings. We were not expecting architectural drawings but more of a concept of the job showing locations of cabinets, appliances, etc. My wife has contacted the contractor on multiple occasions asking for the drawings, but to date nothing has been forthcoming. In addition the contractor stated that he would refer us directly to his architect to discuss any details, but this never happened. My wife was totally up front with the start date of summer 2016 but the contractor seemed to be taken aback that we were looking that far out and at that point the "urgency" on his part seemed to disappear. At this point we would be just as happy just to get the $69 back and find another contractor.

My sewer backed up flooding almost half of my finished basement. John promptly called me back after I left my first message and work with me to set a time to review the damage. He was very good about working with my insurance adjuster to arrive at a bid that aligned well with the insurance estimate. There was a laundry list of items that need work including: * Completely replace old shower and mud pan * Fix existing incorrectly installed plumbing * Replace drywall and insulation * Painting and texturing the new drywall * Replace missing / damage flooring and trim * Replace and install damaged cabinetry with new more attractive cabinetry than originally installed before flooding A few items were done outside of the insurance repair work since I was already having work done, including: * Install a fan in my upstairs bathroom * Expand and improve downstairs shower I was very pleased with John and his crew (thank you Al and Anna) and with the couple of folks he worked with to install the shower walls and glass (whose name escape me). John communicated with me all during the reconstruction work and moved quickly to make the affected space livable again. After the work was completed I couldn't even tell where the drywall had been replace. The paint and textured matched so closely. The new shower is much better to use and more attractive. The new cabinetry is of higher quality and looks better than the old items while still staying inside the insurance estimate. Overall, the best statement that I can make is that I will be using them again for future work I need to my home.

There were some problems - his computer crashed and he lost his first design and so had to come back to remeasure. I was pleasantly amazed at how hard he worked for a $69 big deal. The designs are great and I will be calling him when I am ready to do the work.

Very professional, high quality work. Initiated and completed on time. Would use them again in a heart beat. And I did!!!

Initial contact in mid October 2014 was fine. We promptly got a thoughtful questionnaire to fill out asking what our goals and priorities are, when we wanted to meet, etc. We filled it out and returned it within a few days. Two weeks later we hadn't heard back from John. We called and he arranged to come out. He asked us to send the questionnaire again. We did. He came out, but not at the agreed upon time. He brought Al, a cabinet guy, with him. They took measurements and discussed the scope of the project. They had some good ideas concerning the placement of cabinets in an adjacent room. Part of the job includes taking out some load bearing posts. John said he'd look in our attic next time. We gave John and Al copies of blue prints of our house. After another few weeks we called again expecting to get an estimate and the 3D drawings. John sent the drawings via email. They were very basic, but helped us visualize what the remodel would look like. We asked about the estimate. John arranged a second visit to bring the flooring rep and another person (structural? electrical?). Once again he did not show up at the agreed upon time, but he did come and he only brought the flooring rep. He did not look in our attic to see what changes would need to be made to remove the load bearing posts. We got some more basic 3D drawings with a revision we requested on the window placement. The change in range top placement was not made on the revised drawings. We also got more detailed cabinet drawings and a bird's eye view of what the areas would look like with the walls removed. We got an estimate the first week in December (7 weeks after we made initial contact). The estimate is missing the cost to run a gas line to the range and cost of permits. John said permit costs depend on final scope of work. Overall impressions - friendly guy, not very organized. This is our first estimate, so we do not have a price comparison with other contractors.

He looked at the bathroom and said he could not do the 3 D rendering.

John gave me a bid and when I decided to go with his company he said he could be out to do the work within a week or two (which he did). He and his assistant worked fast and were very professional. He let me know what he would be doing when - great communication. We're all done except the painting of the stairs/fence, so he'll be out again when the weather is warmer.

I scheduled a deal to scope a remodel. John (apparently owner ) called to cancel the day of, after I had taken the day off work to accommodate his schedule. He indicated he would call to reschedule ( did not ). After I returned from vacation and called him, we rescheduled. He called me 10 minutes after the rescheduled appointment time , having not left yet ( at least 30 minutes to an hour away) After consideration I decided that if he couldn't even show up to promote his services, the likelihood of his showing up once potentially under contract were slim to none and opted to cancel our third appointment after 2 no shows. I will be contacting Angie's List to get a refund on the offer.

It went well with John. I got the gate I wanted at a good price. We probably could have communicated better - maybe picking up the phone instead of emailing or texting. In the end I understood the decisions John made and am very happy.

They did not contact me within the two business days as specified on Angie's List. I finally was able to reach them after several attempts and scheduled the appointment for the consultation for Monday 11/03/14 and they never showed or called. I am cancelling the Big Deal and contacting Angie's List for my full refund.

Just was not going to work within my schedule. Had to cancel the deal.
