They did a good job. They did quality work and cleaned up after themselves. One of the guys broke a light fixture and went and purchased a replacement himself.

PK Electric did a good job. I called PK Electric on a Thursday, before Super Bowl Sunday. They came out the next day! I thought that was great! I called 3 other places, and they weren't able to come that quickly.

When they first arrived to fix the lighting in the bathroom, I asked them to look at the circuit breaker box and tell me what needed doing. They suggested I was probably not up to code, and they pointed out some bare wires on the roof that might at some point cause an explosion. They fixed that right away. They tole me to call and get the estimator out ther, so I did. They ended up spending more time with us than they had expected. They stayed late at night so we wouldn't be without power, and came the next day as well. They stayed with their original estimate. I was impressed!
Description of Work: The electrician and his journeymen repaired a light switch, then removed an old circuit breaker box and brought it up to code with a new one. They repaired some hazardous situations they found in the course of their work.

Overall the experience was solid and positive and the communication throughout was extremely comprehensive. This was a relatively small job during the holiday season- thus they changed out crews a couple times- but always called the day or more prior to coordinate when they would be at the house and what they would do. Because of the holidays, and also due to some problems inherent in the old wiring, the job took a bit longer than normal but they kept to their bid price and did as much troubleshooting as required to deliver a completed service. I've had one other whole-house re-wire experience before, and PK Electric did a far better job than the company from my previous experience. Rewires however present some challenges: depending on how extensive (total rewire vs. partial rewire of knob and tube, etc.) there will be additional carpentry and plaster repair work to be done that is not included in a rewire situation. In my case I had a carpentry contractor on-site the entire time so this was addressed quickly. Also, like many jobs involving renovation or remodeling, the scope of work frequently changes as you become more familiar with the issues at hand. During the course of their work, I found additional areas of the house that needed attention, so PK's project leader simply kept to the original scope of work (including permit inspections, etc.) and then sent another crew out later to do the additional work, a garage rewire that involved exterior trenching. They were able to trench about 30-40 feet and do the entire garage rewire in about 8 hours with a crew of three, and the final product was very nice. In summary, I would definitely use them again; I didn't have a tight time line nor did I expect to see exactly the same crews on my job every day, so if you are flexible in those areas, I would highly recommend PK Electric for future work. The communication flow between their project leader and me was excellent, and they kept the costs completely within the parameters outlined in their bid.
Description of Work: After checking Angie's list for an electrical contractor to do a vintage house re-wire, I selected PK electric based on 2 factors: 1-the speed and comprehensiveness of their bid, 2-their price (about 60% of a competing bid). The scope of the job was to rewire several rooms and circuits in a 1924 home that already had some electrical upgrades including a new 200-amp service panel. The specific focus was the main floor of the house including 2 bedrooms, a newly renovated bathroom, the kitchen, mudroom, fireplace room, and a couple exterior power/security light additions.

It all went great. He got to work right away. It was freezing out and I know he was extremely cold. But he worked non stop and got the generator installed. He explained how the system worked and we all got to attend the game as planned. The winds never got to the levels they had predicted, and we haven't used our generator, but we are prepared. I highly recommend PK Electric.
Description of Work: It was Saturday, December 20th and in addition to predicting snow, they were predicting high winds. We lived through a storm two years ago where we lost power in December for three days. We decided to spring into action. My husband found a generator. In the meantime, I called PK Electric. This was the second time we had used them. I was prepared to get an answering machine on Saturday morning, but Michelle answered the phone. I explained we wanted to have our generator installed and really pushed when we asked that it all get done before noon so that we could attend the Gonzaga-UConn game in Seattle. After a few phone calls to exchange information, a very nice plumber showed up.

When plugging in a vacuum, the socket shorted out. I called PK and they sent Mike out in the next hour, who replaced it, and checked the wiring around it to make sure there was no fire hazard. He even checked a porch fixture when asked at the last minute and had suggestions that we could do ourselves. I had to do this over the phone, and the service was prompt and courteous.

We decided to replace our circuit panel because we were tired of tripping circuits. Now, I'm no electrician, but I was convinced after talking with PK Electric that replacing the panel would increase our capacity. It was only after the work was performed that I was told that the new panel would not increase capacity at all. Extensive re-wiring needed to be done to achieve that but PK would be happy to do that work for a substantial additional fee. Two new circuits had been added to our den for the computers, but that was it. So, in our viewpoint, we paid over a thousand dollars each for two new outlets. In addition: The new panel box is huge. When I complained about this, I was told this was the standard size. A smaller size is available, but I was not informed about that option until after the installation. I was told the smaller box could be swapped out for the large one, but PK would in no way repair the gaping hole that would leave in the wall. Which leads to item three: The wall was butchered. A huge section of wallboard was cut out in three pieces to remove the old panel and install the new one, two studs over. The three chopped up pieces were then nailed back onto the wall. The old panel box was left without a cover leaving all the wires inside exposed. This in a house that has a child in it. The contractor left a total mess behind. Our walls have blown-in insulation and a great deal of it fell out of the wall when the pieces of wallboard were removed. PK picked up the larger pieces of insulation by hand but did not vacuum the work site at all. There was insulation dust all over the room. When the city electrical inspector examined the job, it was rejected. The work done by PK Electric did not meet code. PK had to come back to correct their work and then we had to make a second appointment with the city inspector. PK Electric was extremely unresponsive during the entire course of the job. It always took repeated calls to them to get any response or call back. We were promised immediate correction of the exposed wires in the old panel box and waited over a week before anyone showed up. When the inspector rejected their work we again waited over a week to have the work corrected. Over all, I found PK Electric to be incredibly unprofessional and I would never use them again.

IN ADDRESSING THE HOMEOWNER’S CONCERNS IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE THREE ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED: 1) THE SCOPE OF THE PROPOSAL AND THE REASONS BEHIND OUR RECOMMENDATIONS; 2) THE LOCATION OF THE WORK AND THE DAMAGE; 3) THE INSPECTION AND RESCHEDULING THE PROPOSAL: WE WERE CONTACTED LAST SPRING TO PROVIDE A PROPOSAL THAT WOULD ADDRESS THE OWNERS CONCERNS THAT CIRCUITS WERE TRIPPING IN AN OFFICE AREA OF THE HOME. OUR CONVERSATIONS WITH THE HOMEOWNER AND OUR PROPOSAL SUGGESTED REPLACING THE OBSOLETE ZINSCO ELECTRICAL PANEL WITH A NEW 30/40 PANEL THAT WOULD PROVIDE THEM WITH THE CAPACITY TO ADD ADDITIONAL CIRCUITS WHEN THEY DECIDED TO INCUR THAT EXPENSE IN THE FUTURE. THE PROPOSAL ALSO INCLUDED ADDING OF TWO CIRCUITS TO MEET THEIR IMMEDIATE CONCERNS FOR THE OFFICE AREA AND GROUNDING THOSE NEW OUTLETS. IN THE FUTURE THEY CAN UPGRADE THE SERVICE COMING INTO THE HOME FROM THE CURRENT 125 TO 200AMP. AS WE DISCUSSED, THIS WOULD MEET THEIR IMMEDIATE CONCERNS AND BE A FIRST STEP TO START ADDRESSING THEIR LONG TERM OPTIONS. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE ‘EXTENSIVE RE-WIRING’ MENTIONED IN HIS NOTES – AND YES, UPGRADING THE SERVICE INTO THE HOME FROM 125 TO 200AMPS IS EXPENSIVE. LOCATION & DAMAGE: THE OLD PANEL WAS LOCATED INSIDE OF A CLOSET AND ELECTRICAL CODE REQUIRES THAT IT BE MOVED OUTSIDE OF THE CLOSET. THE HOMEOWNER AGREED TO PLACE THE NEW PANEL JUST DOWN THE WALL FROM THE CLOSET. NEW PANELS ARE NOW 14-INCHES WIDE AND WILL NOT FIT BETWEEN THE STUDS OF THIS OLDER HOME AND THIS REQUIRED MORE EXTENSIVE CUTTING OF THE WALLS. THE HOMEOWNER DECIDED ON A LARGER 200AMP PANEL RATHER THAN THE SHORTER 125AMP PANEL IN ORDER TO HAVE OPTIONS IN THE FUTURE – ONE OF THE GOALS. THIS TYPE OF WORK REQUIRES CUTTING INTO THE WALLS AND OUR ELECTRICIANS MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO KEEP THE WALL DAMAGE AT A MINIMUM. OUR PROPOSALS ALWAYS INCLUDE A STATEMENT OF EXCLUSION FOR CUTTING, PATCHING AND PAINTING. WHEN WE MAKE CARELESS MISTAKES WE WORK WITH THE HOMEOWNER ON THE REPAIR. IN THIS CASE OUR ELECTRICIAN MADE EVERY EFFORT TO KEEP DAMAGE AT A MINIMUM UNDER DIFFICULT CONDITIONS. THIS IS THE FIRST I HAVE HEARD OF THE MESS THAT WAS LEFT AND THE ELECTRICIAN RECALLS CLEANING THE AREA. THE OLD PANEL INSIDE THE CLOSET WAS REPLACED WITH A JUNCTION BOX AND IT WAS NOT COVERED WHEN THE ELECTRICIAN LEFT – HE RETURNED THE NEXT DAY WITH A COVER – BUT THE HOMEOWNER IS CORRECT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED IMMEDIATELY. INSPECTION: THE INSPECTION DID NOT PASS AND WE SCHEDULED A RETURN WITH THE HOMEOWNER AND RETURNED TO MAKE THE CORRECTIONS AND RESCHEDULE A FINAL INSPECTION. FINAL COMMMENT: FOR THE $2,200 THE HOMEOWNERS HAVE RESOLVED THEIR OVERLOADING PROBLEM FOR THE OFFICE AREA, REPLACED AN OBSOLETE AND DANGEROUS ZINSCO PANEL AND HAVE MOVED TOWARDS EXPANDING THEIR POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL CAPACITY.

Scott arrived on schedule on the 19th of November and gave us an estimate for the same services as listed above. He was very thorough and was willing to answer all of our questions. We live in a 1950s ranch style home and the wiring in most of it does not have a ground wire so that is why we had a GFCI installed. I had thought I could just by a box of receptacle and install them myself but I ended up returning them because I was not sure what to do once I took of the covers and exposed the innards. We received an estimate that very day and set up an appointment for the work to be done. On the 25th the electricians arrived on time and set up to do the work. The track lighting they installed was a new type that we purchased separately and it did not require a transformer the reason we purchased them. They got right to work and did a beautiful job. I loved how organized they were, they laid out the fixture first and then proceed with the installation. It required a little bit of detective work to find out why the 1 outlet did not work. But they went up in the crawl space and found out what the problem was and fixed it. It was something to do with a old garage door opener that is no longer there. They finished up and cleaned up everything and were out the door on time and on budget. Thanks to you all! And a happy holiday!
Description of Work: They installed 2 track rails, troubleshooted and repaired 1 receptacle, replaced one receptacle with a GFCI also installed a dimmer switch for the track lighting.

The work went extremely well. The electricians were on time and worked diligently on all the items in the punch list of work. I would definitely recommend them and would hire them again for work.

There were two employees here, one was obviously getting oriented and then later on told me it was his first time on the job. The other one had experience. After they left I discovered the lamp still wasn't working. In my bedroom where they had worked on outlets, I had a clock radio on my night table and that wasn't working properly. This is a family run business and I called them and told them about the clock radio. They called me back and said he didn't drop it, but he did come back out. It was very tense while he was here and he was here for awhile. After they left the clock radio still didn't work. I called them and told them to just forget about this, I didn't feel up to it and so I just gave the radio away. The way she handled this situation was terrible. They are quite expensive and I would never use them again.
Description of Work: I had several things done. A table lamp had a socket that didn't work. I had taken it to a lamp place before, but it went off again. It was very heavy for me to carry so I thought I'd put that on my list for them. I was doing some interior painting and rearranging of furniture and had some outlets I wanted changed in certain rooms, there were maybe 4 outlets.

Andy came and gave us a proposal for work to be done. It was reasonable to us. They started work as stated. They were very professional and the work was very good. Our house was built in the 50's, so it was a challenge. The kitchen outlets were all wired together, so the coffee pot and microwave could not be used at the same time. The electric panel to the house was obsolete and you could not get the circuit breaker anymore. In two days, they had everything done and we had to wait two weeks for the generator to arrive. In one day, that was hooked up. We will no longer have to wait for the power to come back on in a storm. I love it and these wonderful guys at PK Electric.
Description of Work: Service and panel upgrade to 200 amps and install new mast directly through eves, above roof. Power connection to new heat pump. Added two circuits in kitchen.
