I like to know how everything in my house works and he was happy to let me watch the water heater install/house water main handle replacement and explain everything to me. He even noticed that the earthquake straps from the prior install of my water heater were incorrectly installed into drywall only and not studs and fixed it for me. From the time Hamblen & Sons reached out to me to the moment they finished the job, they were knowledgeable and professional with a great sense of humor. They know how to build a rapport quickly. They replaced my old water heater and plumbed my kitchen for a gas stove in roughly 3 hours. At the end of the job they came to me and told me that they were knocking off $150 for work that was estimated, but not needed. Honest and dependable service. They put me in touch with Judd & Black for them to assist me in choosing the right gas range for Hamblen to install at the same time as all other work was performed. Hired Hamblen and Sons to install an LP gas line under my house. These guys are great, work was done to impeccable standards with the installer even using part of the house shavings to color the grout! Communication was spectacular with the owner Tim and work was done very fast and efficiently, even better was the work cost was under shat they had quoted!!!!!

If I could give 10 or 20 stars versus a mere 5 stars, I would. I'm sure many of you can relate to my next statement: When dealing with a contractor, mechanic, or used car salesman, I'm afraid I'm going to be screwed. To counter this possibility, I try to sound as serious and knowledgeable as possible. It's my own vaccine called "don't screw with me itis." My wife has said on these occasions that I sound mean and scary while injecting this "vaccine" to others. Tim Hamblen took it all in stride. He spoke to me as if he heard what I said and my concerns. He spoke with me patiently and explained things. In the end, we spoke for over 30 minutes, set his son to come out the next afternoon, and he even ended telling me a corny "Dad's joke". After we spoke, I received a call from a different plumbing contractor. I explained that I was already set for my plumbing needs. This contractor stated an opinion of what was wrong that went against what Tim had said and what I had researched previously. In the moment, I questioned my research and Tim's judgement so I thought it would be a nice idea to get another quote. I set this contractor up for the next morning. When this contractor and his dad came, they gave me a far lower quote. It was so much lower that I dropped my principle and wound up calling Tim to cancel. Before I said yes to the second plumber, I had some nagging concerns. Even though this company had good reviews, the son (the contractor) seemed to be in training. What the son had stated the prior day on the phone was wrong. He made another questionable statement as well. Also, in my presence, the dad had to correct the son at least twice when they were looking at my water heater to give me a quote. I asked them for time to make a decision, and they left. As Drew Hamblen was scheduled to arrive in several hours, I wanted to give them as much time as possible to fill the slot; therefore, I called Tim cancelling Hamblen and Son's service call. I simply had to think things through. How do I know I made the right choice? Four reasons - two for the other guys and two for Hamblen. 1) After I decided to go with Hamblen & Sons, the second contractor complained to me that he had to pay Home Advisors $50 for the referral despite the fact that I deliberately unchecked the box that I wanted quotes. Even had I asked for Home Advisors to pass on my info, I should not be blamed for you not getting the job. 2) When a novice knows more about the potential problem than the expert, that's trouble. What's worse, the second contractor's ego in how he presented things as the gospel truth was just asking for trouble. On the other hand, on behalf of Hamblen and Sons, 1) The way the father spoke to me both before getting the job and after getting rejected, speaks volumes not only for his plumbing knowledge but his grace and kindness. 2) Although Drew and I spoke far less, the quality of his work speaks volumes. I am happy with the job, the price, and the professionalism.
