Attempted to communicate by calling Jim Horswill's Angie's List #. Called repeatedly for five days in a row and left Voice Mails. No response at all! Perhaps Mr. Horswill uses his Voice Mail as a Filter?

Jim came out to hang a laundry room door for me that previous handymen turned in to a fiasco. He wasn't able to actually do the job because the door wasn't prepared properly by the earlier guys. One of them had broken the replacement that we had purchased and bought us a new door (door #3), but didn't have it beveled or trimmed to the original specifications of the original door. Jim took the time to explain to me what was wrong and what I needed to have done to correct it, including doing all the measurements and math for me!!! He also gave me advice on some other projects I had questions about around the house. He didn't charge me for his time, but I gave him $20 anyway, because I appreciated him coming and helping me out. He was very professional and friendly and knew what he was doing. I'm glad that I found him and will definitely call him in the future!

Called Jim to let him know it was now in very bad shape. He said "Oh, that was just a Mickey Mouse fix. I'll go to Home Depot and pick up an aerator. That'll fix it." Thanked him for his time and told him I would go to Home Depot myself, I wouldn't be needing him again. I went there and purchased the exact same aerator (a PLUMBER there said that is standard and exactly what he'd use or could buy ANYWHERE) I bought and used for 21 years and the same as the two he tore apart. Still have a drip but it isn't showering me. Right back to square one only the drip is much worse and I'm out $6.89 for the new aerator and $65 that I paid Jim for the damage he did. I even had to write up my own receipt. He mumbled that would be "okay" and I made sure he signed it. This "Handyman" would be handy only to stand by commenting or running to the store while the customer did the work.
Description of Work: He might have THOUGHT he provided services, but left the faucet in worse shape than it was when he finally arrived! Called him Apr 25, showed up May 3. Excused it because he lived in Marysville and this was not an emergency. Then found out he's working right down the street from me so he could've stopped by much earlier! I had a small drip in the kitchen faucet. I bought a new aerator in case it would be needed (actually bought two just in case). He took at least 15 mins to figure out how to take the cap off the faucet. Whoops! "I thought I had a #3 Phillips but I don't", after almost an hour he returned from the store with one. Then another hour while he took it apart and went AGAIN to Eddie's Plumbing for a washer. He said he got advice there on how to fix it. Then when it finally was put back together he fiddled with the aerator (It never had to be taken off in the first place!), took mine apart and put part of a new one together with it. After over three hours, he pronounced it fixed. After he left I went to turn it on and got a complete shower right in the face. Water was squirting all over the kitchen! The drip was no longer a slow drip. It's a good one now!

Jim has a terrific work ethic, you really get your money's worth and he knows what he's doing. He was great to work with. I did part of the work myself with his advice and he was happy to have me as a helper. His approach to some of my issues saved me time and money.
Description of Work: Installed exterior door, replaced countertops and backsplash, repaired water-damaged wood floor, installed interior trim, built new exterior deck railing.

Jim was great. When I called him we made an appointment and he showed up and got to work. He was professional but also friendly and he obviously had a lot of experience, so he instilled a feeling of confidence. His services are not cheap, but he does excellent work and we were very very happy with the results.
Description of Work: Jim found and replaced parts on the doors in two of our bathrooms. He also replaced a step-down from the house to the garage to make it easier for me to reach the step. He also made sure it conformed to code. He also replaced the garbage disposal and the faucet on the kitchen sink.

He did a top rate job on the repairs that he did. I had a long list of other things that I wanted him to do and for some reason he never called back or came back to finish the list. I also referred him to a friend of mine and she had the same experience, he just disappeared.
Description of Work: The handyman repaired some things around my barn...plumbing and a vent on the roof, and a few things around my house. He also repaired a piece of drywall that had gotten wet and molded from a leak in the shower, and repaired the damaged caulking that caused the leak.

I saw Jim's truck with his phone number on it at a stop light when I was driving home from work one day. We didnt need a handyman at this time but something told me to take his phone number down. Boy am I glad I did. We called him and one other handyman because we realized the lower unit of our four plex had tiles that were damaged in the shower and the wall behind them had gotten wet. Jim returned our call right away(unlike the other company). The other company had an appointment to give us an estimate and they never showed up. Jim was prompt, courteous and gave a free estimate. His only down fall was that he didnt have the ability to take debit or credit but he said he was going to look into it. He said it would take three days and in three days the job was done. He charged us exactly what he quoted, cleaned up his mess and he even went all over town to find the right tiles to match our old 70's style tiles(without an extra charge for the gasoline). He replaced some wallboard and the tiles and caulked the whole tub. He gave us a senior discount and his price was very reasonable. It was a beautiful job and we would definatly hire him again.
Description of Work: Jim Horswill gave a free estimate, replaced 6 shower tiles that had come loose and the wallboard behind them.

Jim has twenty years experience working with contractors. He now works on his own for smaller jobs. He is reasonable and honest; charges by the hour. He does not waste time. Jim is punctual, calls you back, and interested and concerned about the job. Called almost everyday to check-in and was flexible with me. He is a very nice guy. He is an excellent finisher for wood.
Description of Work: Jim painted my bathroom, installed the vanity and lights. He did custom work to install the vanity and plumbing. I knew him through my mushroom club. He pressure washed my sidewalks and deck flooring as well. This was an ongoing project during the summer. He is great at finishing wood.
