James installed a cabinet that I had held back during the initial remodeling done late last year by Cox Custom Remodeling. Although it took a few phone calls to get James to respond, he came out did a good job installing the cabinet. The install went smoothly and the cabinet looks nice. Thank you, James!

Provide came out and reviewed our job which is to complete a finished basement. He was friendly enough and I shared with him that I have not heard back from other contractors. I specifically asked him if he didn't want the job or wouldn't do the work to please let us know so we could move on to another contractor. Never heard back from the guy. Very unprofessional.

I worked very closely with James, checking in with him every day in the morning to see what was going to get done each day. Duration of project was about 2.5 months. James is a good communicator and more importantly a great listener to customer needs. There were countless times throughout the project we had to discuss/review options, James always had a solution to my varied requests. This project entailed both framing and finish work, including the decking, soffit and barbeque area. I was impressed with the quality of framing but more impressed with the finish work and his attention to detail and making sure the job was done right. His expectations ran down to all of his subcontractors, so I never had a concern with regards to who was going to show up to do the concrete/electrical or other tasks. Starting from a design on paper for this outdoor living area, James delivered with a finish project that went beyond my expectations. I highly recommend and trust James as a contractor/builder. I plan to use him for future projects on our house.
Description of Work: James at Cox Custom Remodeling built a covered outdoor living area approximately 1,000 square feet. The structure consists of all exposed beams and posts, pine soffit, and a composite deck surface. I have only used Angie's List a few times, with a job this size I was really hesitant to cold call contractors to get the job complete. I would say my expectations are pretty high, James and his crew met and exceeded all aspects of the job.

It?s nice to find an honest contractor. I met James Cox through Angie?s List and my first project was to caulk and paint the siding seams on my house. Not an easy task because it?s a two story house on a hill, so the backside of the house is three stories high. James gave me an estimate and when his subcontractors came to price their work for him, their price was $1,300 lower. Rather than keep quiet about it and make a nice profit, he called me to let me know. I?m very impressed by his honesty; something you don?t often see. I?ve got several remodel projects to get done and I?m looking forward to working with James on these. Thanks James!

James Cox, owner of Cox Custom Remodeling, along with his lead Sean and the Cox crew, turned my desire for a better home for myself and my parents into reality through skill, pride in their work, honesty and attention to their customer?s needs. Their attention to detail and adherence to the project schedule resulted in a high quality job completed in a very reasonable timeframe. I highly recommend Cox Custom Remodeling to anyone who desires to improve their living environment and wants the work done right. Throughout the remodeling project, James constantly asked for my feedback on the work being done. He met with me 3 times prior to beginning work to insure that he understood what I wanted done and to inspect the house to insure that the changes I wanted made could be done without requiring major structural work. At one of the meetings, James brought in the electrical (Quantum Electric) and plumbing (Cascade Service Solutions) contractors that he works with so that they would understand the work to be done. James arrived on time for each meeting. This punctuality by James and his crew continued throughout the entire project. James, his crew, and his subcontractors all responded to any feedback I gave with a positive attitude and did their best to meet my needs. All costs for the remodel project were fair and there were no surprises. As the project progressed, James kept me up to date on the cost breakdown relative to the original estimate. This communication helped me to make informed decisions about materials such as flooring, cabinets and the new water heater to fit within my budget. I never had any worries about how much money I was going to be billed for, which allowed me to concentrate on working together with James and his crew to turn my vision of what I wanted my home to be into reality. In my past I have had 2 houses built and have also personally built media rooms in each of the houses. I have worked with a lot of contractors in the construction industry and have been frustrated many times and satisfied few times. My experience with Cox Custom Remodeling during the remodeling of my home has restored my faith that there are contractors who know what they are doing, are ethical, take pride in their work, and never forget who their customer is. This is the essence of being professional. As a side note, I found Cox Custom Remodeling through Angie's List. The reviews and information I read were very helpful in deciding to choose Cox Custom Remodeling for my project. It ended up being a good decision. Thank you Angie's List!

We loved working with James and his team! From the start he was very responsive to our emails and calls, understood our vision and had ideas about how he could make it work. The quote he provided was comparable to others we received, but he was so much more thorough and professional than any other contractor we had out that it was a "no-bainer" to go with him. On the scheduled start day his team was right on time and got to work quickly. When I checked out the progress mid-day and requested a change, they were quick to accommodate the request. The project was broken up over a few different days since we had to wait for some of the materials for the railing to come in, but overall it took less time than estimated. James's team was so friendly and professional, and we really appreciated how carefully they cleaned up after themselves. Over the past two years, we have had several other companies do work on our house and always had issues with the work, cleanup, responsiveness of the owner, etc. We didn't run into any issues at all with Cox Custom Remodeling! The finished project looks great, and we could not be happier! We will definitely be calling James when we are ready to tackle the next project.

James Cox was recommended to us by a local lumber store when we were researching ways to update the 1979 style exterior on our home. He was prompt with his bid and scheduling the work. It was evident that his crew took pride in a job well done, and we were very happy with the job from start to finish. We will definitely consider him for future projects.

We found James to be responsive and competent, and he is trustworthy which is an important and valuable attribute when having someone into our home. His pricing was very fair, the job was done promptly, and the quality of the work could not have been better. On top of that, he?s a super nice guy! Cox Custom Remodeling will definitely be the first call we make for future jobs.
Description of Work: Recently someone attempted to kick in both our front and back doors. The jams were split, the jack studs on the front door were badly damaged, and the interior side drywall was compromised. The back door faired better in that only its jams were split. James was able to remove and replace the studs on the front door and he adjusted the door so that it operates better than it ever has. He repaired the jams on the back door to perfection, and adjusted that door as well. Additionally he adjusted a third door, the entry to the garage, that had never been hung properly. Hubby and I are remodeling our kitchen, and had most of the underlayment pulled up, but were not sure how to get it neatly out from beneath the door threshold. While he was here, James did that job for us as well without being asked!

A friend of mine used James Cox of Cox Custom to install his kitchen cabinets. I really liked the job he did, so I contacted James hoping to do my kitchen in the same manner (getting cabinets from Canyon Creek at cost, and paying James and his crew based on $50/man hour). I first contacted James on March 8, 2013 by leaving a voicemail and then sending him an email with more details. James replied the same day and we set up a call for the next day to discuss. On March 16, 2013, I got a quote for both the cabinets (from Canyon Creek) and for the install from James. I was good with the costs, so we scheduled a time for final measurements on March 22, 2013. The morning of the final measurement, I got a call from James that he had to re-schedule due to the freak snow storm north of Seattle. It's at this point where communication disappeared and James was no longer responding to my calls or emails. It wasn't until April 9, 2013 that James finally sent me an email appologising for being late, but expressed interest in doing the work. He had some worries about the security of his tools since I'm in a mid-rise condo. After this, I never heard from James again.... the date I'm writing this review is May 23, 2013. I asked my friend who had his cabinets installed by James Cox whether he had ever run into non-responsiveness. He didn't have any issues when working with James, and he was quite happy with the quality of work. I'm just sad that it appears that James didn't want to do the work for me, and instead of telling me directly, he just ignored me and basically let it fizzle out. In the end, I decided that if I wanted to have things done correctly, I needed to pay for it. Based on the recommendation of another friend who recently redid their kitchen, and a search for Angie's List for that company's feedback, I have decided to go the custom cabinet route for my kitchen with Keystone Kitchens in Woodinville.

From beginning to end, working with James was a great experience. After waiting for two years for my husband to do the kitchen crown molding, I started looking for a pro. I found several pros on Angie's list, and sent out emails with a description of my job. I needed someone who was willing to take on a smaller job, about a 1/2 - 3/4 day job. James, from Cox Custom Remodeling, called me back right away. I sent him some pics of the kitchen cabinets and the crown molding that I already owned. He sent me a written estimate that evening. I let him know the estimate was acceptable and to please put us on the schedule. Yesterday, James and David came out promptly at 8 AM and got to work. Of course, by the time James got here, I had a few other jobs to add to the job -- an island end panel that needed an outlet cut into it and installed, and light valances installed. He was more than happy to add the extra work. The end result couldn't have been better. After two years of waiting, the kitchen is actually COMPLETE and BEAUTIFUL! James is truely a carpentry genius!!!! Wow!

I met with John and an associate of his David Soule. They came to my home, got the details of my project, measured items out, etc. David provided his guidance and ideas to what I might consider in my project. He crawled up in my attic space and looked below in my crawl space, walked around my roof and evaluated the job very thoroughly. He also came back to me with an estimate of how much his detailed estimate would cost. John didn't do much of any of the scoping of the project or talking. I had contacted John, expecting John would be the driver in this venture. What I was expecting was an overall estimate bid from John on the work we discussed. I never heard back from John. I received several follow up calls from David to see if I had made a decision. Unfortunately, I couldn't even consider them since I never received a bid. I called John twice to see if I would be getting his bid anytime soon. I never received a call back. Nothing. That's really too bad. I would have loved to have worked with David. He was the one that inspired confidence in the entire setup. I will not be calling Cox Construction again. I might call David Soule though. He really knew what he was talking about.
Description of Work: I asked Cox Construction to come and review a home remodel project and provide a bid. The work entails removal of 2 non-load bearing walls, one of which has a fireplace in it. Framing in a laundry room, installing interior doors, installing hard wood flooring, trim work and general finishing work, painting. That was phase I and/or possibly II of my project, depending on cost. Phase III would have involved expanding the existing home structure out to the back yard to create a master bedroom, master bath, laundry room.

Response from Cox Custom Remodeling, LLC.
Each potential customer is extremely important to me and my business. It is a matter of personal pride to me, to carry a customer's home remodeling vision to completion. It's very upsetting to see that I let Member down. Initially, I was surprised to receive such a low-scoring review from a potential customer. All of my experiences with customer feedback have been positive. After reading Member's comments, however, I see that I failed to deliver, in more ways than one. After reading this review, I immediately contacted Member, hoping that I would be able to salvage her opinion of both me and my company. I apologized to Member for my lack of response, and, while taking accountability, explained that I had been dealing with a family emergency. Regretably, while dealing with that event, I did not follow up with Member as she had expected. In the future, this type of situation will be handled differently. I now have procedures in place to ensure that, while I am unavailable, business will still run smoothly. Feedback like this is difficult to deal with, but ultimately, I am glad that I was able to improve my company's processes because of it. To Member: Thank you for your review. Although I was not able to complete any work on your home, I hope that you found a company that made your home remodel go smoothly.

Very prompt, professional, on schedule and budget. Much of the crawl space work was made more difficult by a 16 inch clearance. I feel the 40-year old house is now more sound than the day it was built. Based on the work completed at this site, we then hired Cox Custom Remodeling to build a deck to cover a broken concrete patio at another site. We were entirely pleased with both jobs.
Description of Work: Repaired extensive water-damaged house substructure. Installed drains and sump pump. Repaired rotted deck. Entirely replaced a bathroom including all substructure, interior floors, walls, and tile shower and counters. Also designed and constructed a beautiful, multi-level 1200 sq. ft. deck at another site using composite decking. Again, on schedule and budget. And when each job was completed, the clean-up was complete and thorough.

I was very happy with the finishing job he did on the floor and the book case. He did a good job with the detailing of the custom front door. I have big dogs so he made suggestions about the design that hides the scratches. I am really happy with the job; they did a really professional job. I think he is a little expensive but he does quality work so he is worth it.

He was referred by my inspector. James Cox was a really nice guy. He was really honest about things. The sump pump was $3800. He does everything. He actually brought in someone to do the plumbing and someone else to do the electrical. His price was higher than the other company that I a quote from. The quality so far has been good. He was very responsive.
