We hired Archstone Masonry to build some pillars in front of our home. This included a speed bump so the dogs couldn't get out and to close the gap between the gate and ground. They charged us extra to build the speed bump but it was not tall enough. We voiced our concern but was ignored. Upon repeated attempts to get the bump raised we were finally told that it would cost us an extra $750 to redo it since he wasn't really in "this line of work". Our main concern from the beginning and the reason we installed a gate was to keep our animals inside. To date, the dogs continue to escape. We are extremely unhappy with Archstone Masonry. My husband went to the store to get sandbags to fill in the gap, temporarily. Further, the last communication I had with him was to let him know I was unhappy. His response was to chastise me "for sending him an unkind email and to watch how I talk to others". And that "he gave me a good price on the pillars and shouldn't be held accountable for the speed bump" we paid for. I would say this company needs to work on customer service and satisfaction as they claim. I cannot leave this review without saying...the pillars themselves look great....I was just hoping for a more professional handling of the items of dissatisfaction. We even offered to pay to raise the speed bump when he first told my husband it would be about $250....then he added onto the price.

Response from Archstone Masonry
We never in stalled a speed bump, just a poured concrete section between the columns and the speed bump is just a raised concrete section that goes across the drive. The cost to pour a concrete section from column to column was 750 ( my direct labor and material cost ) which is the same cost that we hold firm on and by no means are making a profit on this at all and I wouldn't expect to. I just figured you would of called me and discussed it than throwing me under the bus. The message you left on my voice mail was not very respectful and was a month or two after we sent you the bid. I'm here to help but communication goes both ways. Communication on my part has been ( from what I hear from others ) our strong point. Everyone has their own opinion and wish you would of just called after I sent you the bid ( not two months later when your angry ) and discuss it as I do care about your dogs safety. Wish you the best.

They ended up having to make a repair on my chimney. They also recommend replacing the entire chimney, I explained I couldn't afford that right now so they just filled it. The provider was professional and understanding. He was a about a half hour late for the appointment but did call. I would suggest to be honest with the pricing up front. They couldn't give me a up front cost. I did pay more then I had expected to and think they were a little higher then other companies. I would use them again if the pricing was right, I don't want to spend $5,000 on replacing my chimney.

Wow I have to say I'm shocked that I received a B on price! She paid 135 for a inspection and chimney sweep. Which was inspected prior to main work was completed. Here's the actual cost and what was done. Installed two stainless steel rain cover caps ( our cost 89 x 2 ) installed new flue liner to allow for covers to function properly ( 22.00 ) Swept chimney flues, sealed crown (55.00) with acrylic crown coating ( retail $285-600 ) and this was on a two story house that we had to have two men go out there to do the small job. One to hold the ladder that was 20' to the base of the roof!!! Lets see what my profit was here? Direct materials (255.00) (and direct labor ( 2.5 hours, 52.50 per man per hour ( 131.00 ), that's with workers comp no profit ) so total direct cost is $386.00 all that for 54. bucks. I knew I wasn't going to make any money on this and don't expect to on something so small. I always feel that if I gave a fair price (as you can see we tried) they might call us down the road. Well you can't win over everyone.

The owner of the company was very professional and communicated well. He did a great job at offering suggestions and solutions to any potential issues. He worked with my schedule and was able to get the work done in the agreed upon time frame. The guys he had working with him were top notch. They were very professional as well and I enjoyed having them around for a couple of days. I am very happy with the outcome and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company to my family, friends, and neighbors.

Everything went PERFECTLY! Everyone involved was totally reliable, efficient, and topnotch. They took down the bricks from the chimney, cleaned them, then reused them; it looks brand new. They spent at least an hour cleaning up so when they finished, I couldn't even tell that they had been there (except my chimney looked happier). Plus they finished a whole day early which made the cost much less than the original estimate. TWO THUMBS UP!!!

Jerrod and his crew are the best. Showed up when expected, cleaned up the area before leaving, and went beyond by sweeping out the chimney and inside the firebox for no additional charge. The work replacing the brick on the outside of our fireplace was exceptional. They didn't have the same style brick, but the way they installed the new brick made it look like it was always like that. They also only replaced what was needed. Jerrod bids a little high trying to account for anything they may run into, but actual cost was much less. I would hire Archstone Masonry again for any stone work.

I had some businesses tell me the chimney shouldn't be repaired and needed to be rebuilt. Jerrod identified where the problems were and felt the repair was appropriate. He was prompt on his replies and scheduling. The rain cap was not available when the work was completed but was delivered and added 2 days later. Jerrod was helpful with explanations on how to care for the chimney going forward.

I found Archstone on Yelp and decided to contact Jerrod in regards to a quote because he is local. Jerrod was the only one who responded to my inquiry on the same day, was able to come take a look at our chimney the next day and got us our quote very promptly. While, we did compare quotes from all the other companies, Jerrod was the only one who wanted to add a little design element to the chimney where the transition was from the old brick to the new. We agreed to the proposal and Jerrod and his crew were able to start the next day. To no fault of their own (it was very rainy and cold) the work took a few days longer than anticipated. The crew arrived promptly every morning and remained organized and cleanly during the whole process. We are so pleased with how the chimney turned out and it truly provided the face lift that our house needed!
Description of Work: We bought a fixer-upper in 2015 and the chimney had been seriously neglected for some time. Our chimney runs through the entire front of the house so it is a focal point that contributes toe "curd appeal" of our home. The brick was spalling and our inspector told us that the top 7-8 feet would need to be completely rebuilt. We collected a number of quotes in 2015 but since it had been two years we had to reach out again and get our bids adjusted for the current market.

They did an great job on the masonry, but I bought the $99 you get $300 credit off the bill, and I got the bill, and did not get the $300 credit. I called, and he said he factored the $300 credit into the bill already. I question that. He did do an great job. I call and he said hey this is why, he did do satisfactory work. I thought I was getting an benefit of getting ahead of the $300 credit, and I never saw that I was getting the credit. I am happy with the work that they did. I didn't rate them because of the credit issue, they did an great job, I just was kind of mist about the $99 for $300 credit, and this is why I should not try this stuff with Angie's List. They explained everything right, and came when they said that they would. They did not have to come in, because it was done outside.

Jerrod was very helpful and worked with images from the inspection report to create an accurate estimate. He also was very flexible in accommodating our schedule. Jerrod and his masons were great to work with. I was able to juggle the schedule around to accommodate my insulators and my roofers, and it was not a problem for Archstone. They were flexible and very responsive to calls, texts, and emails. My chimney looks really good too! They removed the original stone, cleaned it, and reused it to maintain the look of the house. I am very happy with how it turned out. I have other stone work that needs to be done, and I will hire Archstone again to have it done right for a fair price.

This is one of those extremely rare occaisons where I never met the guy in charge in person but his team did great work so I'm not complaining. We were told by our home inspector that the crown cap on our chimney needed to have masonry/repairs done. After some heavy rains, yes we were getting water damage through the chimney, inside the house the brick is painted white and there seemed to be rust colored stains in some areas where the mortar was. I read the great reviews on Angie's List and bought one of the featured deals for ~4hrs of labor. Jerrod's team did not disappoint. We scheduled an estimate which I didn't have to be home for since it was, of course, outside work. We finalized a quote and scheduled by email and phone. Jerrod estimated needing a couple more hours (6 total) to finish the work, which in the end was accurate. We did have to move the time a little last minute, but since they never had to step inside the house, it wasn't an issue. The person who came out was very professional. He was out there several hours and seemed to finish in the expected timeframe. You can't really tell results until the rain comes. So far, haven't noticed anymore water damage, then of course time will tell. I will update if there is any change with that but, again, seems like a job well done.

We called Archstone Masonry to repoint an entire brick exterior wall as the mortar was quite old and in need of repair prior to the installation of a new deck. To his credit Jerrod responded quickly and was able to get us on Archstone's schedule that week due to a cancellation, which was critical as we were having deck work done the following week. The price for Archstone's work was fair given the scope of the project and timing. Archstone performed the actual repointing work in a satisfactory manner. However, the follow up acid wash to remove the haze off the brick from the new mortar was extremely unsatisfactory and absolutely unacceptable. Archstone missed large areas around two window sills which are still extremely hazy and look quite poor compared to the rest of the brick exterior. I am not sure how we will be able to remove the mortar haze at this point as we now have a new composite deck underneath, and I can't imagine an acid wash would be any good for the decking material. Also, during the acid wash Archstone allowed the acid to drip profusely onto a brand new concrete driveway slab which caused a permanent stain. This greatly affects how the concrete looks and there is nothing we can do about it at this point. Not cool given how expensive the slab cost and now we just have to deal with it due to their sloppy workmanship. Our big mistake was paying Archstone in full prior to a full inspection of their work following the acid wash. Archstone ignored five emails from me after paying them so I guess we are just S.O.L. at this point. Not a very professional way of doing business. Very strange as well since Jerrod and I had agreed for them to perform additional repointing and chimney work totaling another $15k+. I guess they're so busy it is okay to blow off existing customers, but the next downturn won't be kind to outfits like this. Given the complete lack of response and zero follow-up once they were paid I would never use them again.

Jerrod and his team did an excellent job from start to finish. Jerrod took time to explain the bid, my options, was timely, and stayed on top of all aspects of the job. Jerrod set a date to get started and we agreed on that date. About a week until the start, we asked Jerrod if he could move it up by one day to not make too much noise during my wife's preschool during the demo. Jerrod was able to move the date up. During the demo, we had the worst rain storm that people in the area have ever seen. Jerrod's crew made the opening in the roof water tight before running for cover. It was a northwest version of a monsoon and the house was kept dry. The next day they completed the project. The chimney looks good and this is one of the best, if not the best experience I have had with a contractor. Thanks Archstone Masonry. .

We debated amongst a full rebuild or partial rebuild, brick or cinderblock, even ripping it all out. Throughout it all and amongst getting bids, Jerrod was very practical and talked me through the options, and even said "You know it's not worth it" a few times, yet he did talk about how he goes the extra mile and has attention to detail like reinforcing the chimney with rebars. Chimney looks great.

Jerrod came out and gave me a very reasonable bid. We discussed his company and experience with repairing brick chimneys and I felt more comfortable hiring Archstone over any of the other 5 companies for various reasons. Jerrods crew arrived in the morning right on time and finished by 4pm the same day. When they were doing the repair they found and issue with my flashing and offered to fix it for a small additional fee which I felt was more than fair. This company and employees are all professional and respectful of my home and property. Clean up was as if they were never at my place. Hire this company if you have masonry work to be done.

When my fifty-six year old 26" wide wall oven quit working I knew it was not going to be an easy replacement as it was built into a ten foot wide chimney with little room for expansion and 26" ovens are no longer made. I didn't want to go smaller so I purchased a 27" oven which required the width and height of the opening to be enlarged. I wanted a mason to do the work, rather than the appliance installer. I found Archstone Masonry on Angie's List and emailed, with attached photos, the company and explained the work needed. Jerrod, the owner, called immediately and set up a date for the work to be done. Jerrod and Dave arrived right on schedule and discussed with me what they would do. Jerrod left when he felt I was comfortable with the work that was needed. Dave worked quickly enlarging the opening and also moving a brick wall inside the chimney. The result was excellent. During installation there was a problem with the bottom trim because of the uneveness of the brick exterior which was not forseen by the installers. I called Jerrod after the installers left and within an hour Dave arrived and made the necessary repairs and installed the trim for me. I am very impressed with how responsive Jerrod and Dave were and the care they took. I am very happy with Archstone Masonry and have recommended them to friends. They were worth every penny spent. .

Jerrod also coordinated with the company I hired to create the gates which was a big help. His crew got the work done quickly and with very high quality. Initial contact: I called Jerrod, and heard back within a couple of days. The bid: Jerrod and a few other companies came out to quote the job. Jerrod looked at the two walls we wanted done and asked about our design ideas. After hearing our ideas, he addressed some issues with the design, and gave us some other options. He also pointed out some other things we needed to think about... things only a mason would have recognized. He asked about the size of the windows, doors, the type of stone veneer we wanted, etc. My point is that he was very thorough and was getting as much information as possible to make an accurate estimate. He gave me a FIRM price for the job. The job: The team showed up on time and immediately set to work. They guys were all really nice and were happy to answer any questions I had. It was finished within a timely manner and the yard was cleaned up nicely afterwards. The walls look AMAZING! Archstone Masonry has amazing talent! The stone veneer looks like real stone, and the masonry is great quality. If you need a mason... don't look any farther than Archstone Masonry! You will be extremely pleased.
