Very well.
Description of Work: We had a 100 foot retaining wall removed and replaced with new retaining wall with brick fascia. Jerrod and team were amazing. The finished product is far superior than we imagined. They were professional, timely, respectful, cleaned up daily. Couldn't ask for a better team. The project was expensive and did cost more than the original quoted price, but we are very pleased with Jerrod, his team and the finished product. Would definitely hire him again and soundly recommend him.

Description of Work: We had some companies come out and give us an estimate on masonry repair that our roof needed. We called Archstone and they actually had some time to come do the work the next day, which was totally fine with us. They came out and did the first part of the job quickly and were back to spray on the sealant 3 days later. They did a great job. We were very flexible, which was important to getting our job done quickly.

Description of Work: This contractor deserves a triple gold star as he is responsive, shows up on time and his crew does an exceptional job. They were careful, cleaned up beautifully and the result was amazing. They rebuilt two chimneys in brick for me that were difficult to reach and challenging and I can't say enough kudos about them. Wonderful job, great crew, fabulous communication, showed up on time and were terrific. I will use them again for all of my masonry needs and eventually to replace my driveway with pavers.

Description of Work: They replaced a portion of a concrete block retaining wall which had been knocked over by a hit & run driver. Their finished work was very good. They forgot to add sales tax into the bid, so I had to request an additional sum from my insurance company to cover that. Other than that, the experience was top notch.

Description of Work: Archstone repaired some brick that has been detaching from the house for years. They had to find a couple of bricks to blend in with the colors that are no longer available for purchase and clean up the old brick so that it could be re-used. They did a beautiful job. You can't tell that there was ever anything wrong. I.E. it looks like brand new.

We bought an Angie?s List Deal for $300 worth masonry and chimney inspection from Archstone. We don?t use our fireplaces very much, but we were concerned that over time the masonry might be deteriorating from weathering and moss build-up. Jerrod, the owner of Archstone, was pretty easy to contact, and we had an appointment within a week or two. Jerrod was very personable, he listened to our concerns and questions while he patiently explained what the inspection entailed, making sure that we understood what our deal would cover. After he did his inspection, he went over his observations with us, and offered his suggestions on what he thought was necessary to maintain the fireplaces and chimney. He relieved our concerns about chimney, that it was not as bad as we might have thought, but there were he could do ensure it would stay in good shape. He gave us an inspection sheet, which described every thing he found, and he outlined what the repairs would cost, if we chose to have him do some or all of them. During this discussion, he pointed out that our chimney cap, which covers two flues, was made in such a way that it allowed rain to drip into one of the flues, causing some moss build-up. Since we rarely use the fireplaces, this moss build-up could cause problems in the flues and in the masonry. A sweeping of the flues would remove the moss, but there was also the issue of the concrete caps. Over time they had deteriorated, allowing moisture to penetrate. Moss was growing in the cracks and this would cause additional problems in future. Another problem was an air vent in the lower fireplace that wasn?t properly installed, and needed to be replaced. We had to decide whether to stick with just the deal we purchased, or also go ahead with the repair work Jerrod was suggesting. Jerrod did not pressure us into doing any of the work, and instead, offered his opinions on how long we might wait to have this kind of work done, if we wished. Since we already had some idea of the work that might be necessary, we were prepared for the extra cost. We agreed for him to do the work, and he made the appointment for the next week. On the appointment day, Jerrod arrived on time to start the job and set about putting the scaffolding in place and gathering the necessary equipment. We were particularly pleased that he protected the area around and under his scaffolding with large tarps to catch debris and possible wet concrete droppings. We were equally impressed that he was able to pressure wash the chimney brick, chisel out the old crowns, remove the stainless steel cap, add the new concrete, and replace the old air vent in the lower fireplace all in one day, working alone. After he finished for the day, Jerrod told us the stainless steel cap would have to be custom made, as they are made on demand by the company he uses, and should take only a couple of weeks to complete. The deciding factor to installing it would be the weather. He also tried to help us out with the cost of the cap, suggesting that he had recently taken one off the chimney of a family member. It was in good shape and he thought it might be the same size. That would have cut our costs for having one made. As it turned out, it was not the right size, so we weren?t able to use it. Nevertheless it was the gesture to offer us a savings that impressed us. Not every contractor would be so helpful. Getting the cap in place took a little longer than we expected, as the weather took a wetter, colder turn, preventing him from finishing the job. By the 2nd week of January, however (roughly 5 weeks), Jarrod called to say the cap was complete, and the weather was looking more favorable. The day was set to get the cap on and the flues swept. Again, Jarrod was right on time. He even called ahead of time to tell us he was finishing up a prior job and was coming right over. In only a couple of hours the flues were done, and the cap was in place. We couldn?t be happier with Jarrod and his work. We are confident out fireplaces will last for quite a bit long now. Thank you, Jerrod!

They replaced the back firebox bricks, resealed around flashing on main chimeny, and placed rain cover on furnace chimney. Very good job and did their best to make a messy job not so messy and cleaned up after. Very pleased and will use them for some general masonry work on my house this spring.

They came out, looked at my chimney, affirmed what the house inspector had said about the need for repair, gave me a bid and got me on the schedule right away. The rebuilding and tuckpointing work took a full day and that alone made my chimney prettier than all my neighbors' chimneys. The next day, the owner came back to paint - not his core services but it was a reasonable rate for the small job - and install flashing. Now my chimney looks fresh, clean, stable and safe.
Description of Work: Rebuild the concrete brick chimney from the roof line up, install a new chimney cap, tuckpoint/reseal crumbly joints elsewhere and paint to match.

He came out to give me an estimate. I had a previous estimate a few years ago for $200 for the same work. He quoted me $500 or $550, so I would have had to pay $200-250 more. It ended up not being a good deal for me and I am going to just do the work myself. He also missed my first appointment although he did ½ an hour later to reschedule.

Response from Archstone Masonry
I met with the Member to discuss his repair on his fireplace stack. I had an appointment set up late in the evening and was unable to meet due to the sun setting (still offered to show up)a little earlier than I had expected. I rescheduled with him on a Saturday (which I usually don't set appointments for!!!). His chimney was not accessible with any of my ladders or from the roof and I told him that I have to set up scaffolding (an added cost of $250.00) . No real mason would do a repair off of a ladder especially one that is 28' tall. The chimney was in very poor shape!! It really needed to be repointed from the roofline up. The bid I gave him was very fair and was going to cost him an additional $250.00 He has a $300 dollar credit. So yes the total was $550.00 Out of pocket cost would be $400.00 Includes scaffolding!! He was saving over 30% Let's see I thought that was reasonable. I feel he's looking for a non licensed contractor without a bond and insurance to do the chimney. But I need to keep the doors open and can't afford to do the work for that price! I have never had a bad review. Thanks Member:( This is not fair. If he were to get another bid from a licensed contractor , I'm sure that it would be much higher than mine.

My renters requested that the chimney be swept shortly after they moved in. I looked on Angie's list for a service nearby. This service didn't have many reviews but they were A's all the way. I set up an appointment and the owner showed up on time and did a great job. The renters told me there was no mess at all left behind, which was a big worry for both them and me.
Description of Work: The $100 I spent included tax, so the service alone was $87. Available on short notice, very great to work with. I will definitely use this service again.

Jerrod completed the project on time and on budget. He works really hard and puts in long hours to make sure he meets his his commitments.
Description of Work: We would highly, highly recommend Jerrod and his company, Archstone Masonry. Jerrod created a stone wall masterpiece in our living room that included the installation of a gas fireplace and lighted niches. We had a plan design that we shared with him and he was able to suggest design improvements to the whole project. He worked with us on materials selection and through his supplier recommendations, we found that we could install real stone for close to the same price as manufactured stone. He was very skilled and artistic in how he fitted the stones together. He was also very conscientious in containing the construction dust. Our living room was once the least favorite room in our home and now we love it! Thanks Jerrod!
