I needed help finishing stairs and railing on a deck project that I had done myself. Clay was very good about taking over my project and completed the work in 1 day. In the busy summer season I really appreciated that he took the time between jobs to help. He and his helper did a great job on the deck and cleaned up when done. They even hauled away the scrap wood from my project.

Was really looking forward to working with this contractor due to all the great reviews, but after accepting his proposal, he canceled the job 2 weeks prior to the agreed upon start date, by which time I had lost any chance of getting another contractor until late summer which caused a lot of other problems with our project schedule. Totally unprofessional and avoidable situation in my opinion.

First off I thought I had submitted this review last spring. I wrote it but didn't hit submit. Let me start by saying I cant say enough good about Clay and his one man crew. Clay came out and gave me a written estimate. Clay provided a new estimate every we time we changed our minds about material and work needed. He was genuinely intent on building the deck to meet our needs. Well he stayed on budget and more impressively stayed on schedule. But most importantly Clay is the consummate professional craftsman. He work ethic and workmanship is exceptional!!!! We were and are extremely pleased with this great upgrade to our home. Thank you Clay! I repeatedly recommend Advanced Decking to my friends and family. As a side note: this work was performed in April of 2018, In Jan 2019 I noticed that a couple of screws had broken. I called Clay, and he was very responsive and came out to the house and repaired\replace the bad screws. To be clear this I feel was a defect of the screws and not of Clays workmanship. I mention this only as testament to Clays commitment to customer satisfaction.

Clay was great guy and great to work with, very professional. He adapted to some on the fly changes and completed the job on schedule. He was punctual and was very deliberate and accurate in his work. I like the fact that he only works one job at a time. We were scheduled for a particular start day a month and a half in advance and started right on schedule. I guess I would just say he does good work and he does what he says he is going to do and these days that is all to uncommon.

Clay was a consummate professional and an artist. Further we enjoyed watching the progress and the manner in which he constructed our deck. He brought our vision into being as a tangible reality. Clay outlined at the start how he worked with times and days. There were no surprises. He held to his estimate and very easy to communicate ideas to. Bottom line, if you need a deck, whether it be wood, composite, etc., you need to talk to Clay. You owe it to yourself. We have never worked with a better contractor.

Clay at Advanced Decks & Rails was absolutely terrific. He came to the site, listened to us, and submitted a bid that was reasonably priced and exactly in line with what we wanted. When the job started, he was punctual, polite, and kept the job site very clean. Clay did all the work himself and did not split time with other jobs. He provided explanations for everything he did, and when we had difficulty on choosing a railing design, he provided ideas that were based on our input. As the project progressed, any small changes we made were incorporated into adjusted bids which were promptly communicated to us – there were no billing surprises. The overall quality of the work is outstanding and we love the finished product. Clay is clearly talented at his craft, with a great eye for detail. We appreciated his honesty and his commitment to our project. We would highly recommend him to anyone needing deck and rail work.

We were extremely pleased. Clay is such a professional, experienced deck designer and builder. He explained which type of composite would work best for our needs. He listened to the concerns we had with our dog running on the deck. He designed the stairs with different color materials so easily visible going up and down. His quote came back promptly and less than we expected. Advice- schedule early, Clay is busy all year. Once we were scheduled he stayed on our job until completion. Our project completed in 2012 and still looks great. We are having more work done five years later. I highly recommend him!

The only snag came when the materials I needed to match were back ordered so the project was delayed but that had nothing to do with Clay. He did a fantastic job staying in contact with me about the status of the project. I was very impressed with his communication skills by phone, text, and email. He was a good listener and made adjustments gladly as we went along. As funds are available I plan on having him continue replacing the old railing. He has provided with a bid for that work so I can plan accordingly. The materials appear to be top quality as is the work that Clay performed. I would highly recommend Advanced Decks & Railings!!!

Clay with Advanced Decks was the epitome of the honest, knowledgeable, hard working professional. I especially liked his respect for the environment, his not having loud music playing, and his meticulous attention to detail. The estimate was spot on, no hidden surprises. Work done on time. He also knows the materials and is able to give good advice as to the best to use in different situations. He maintained an orderly and clean work site and thoroughly cleaned the site when the job was done. The project turned out exactly as I had envisioned.

The company is a small shop -- Clay Kastler and his wife, and a young helper. Clay was straightforward, low-pressure, and thoroughly professional. He communicated well. He cleaned up. Job cost was approximately $14,000. Important: Clay is an excellent carpenter and he understands construction. But he is NOT a designer. You have to know what you want, and he'll build it. We were pleased with Advanced Decks (Clay Kastler) and would hire again.

Excellent. Clay had good suggestions on the rebuild design which kept the original deck format but allowed for better use of space. His bid was competitive and came in lower than some of the others I obtained. There was more rot than anticipated and he ensured that I was aware of concerns as they occurred. Some of these disruptions extended the job schedule a couple days but allowed me to address the problems. I am totally happy with the work and new deck. He was also flexible when I extended the length of the deck shortly before the work began. The work was done by Clay and a helper.

Fantastic. Clay built a very nice large Trex deck with seating and wheelchair access. Besides being a super nice guy, he was professional in every way and totally devoted to my project. Clay did a great job on my deck, fitting it in between projects and wrapping it up within a week so I could enjoy it as soon as possible. He was professional and efficient and very helpful when it came to deciding the best type of product for the deck I had in mind. I would definitely recommend him for your deck needs.

We couldn't be more pleased with our deck remodel. It's one of those scenarios that you see the finished product and wonder why it took so long to have the work done! After moving into our home, we realized a large section of decking felt unstable and spongy. We asked Clay to come by and assess the overall condition of our deck and provide us with a bid on how much it would cost to a) replace the entire deck and/or b) repair the spongy section and areas where the boards appeared to be rotting/splitting. While some companies might tell you to go with "a" to yield more profit, Clay provided us with his honest feedback that our deck was actually in fairly good shape, but that we needed to address the spongy section as it wasn't up to code and the boards were framed too far apart, which is why they were giving in. We trusted his feedback and went with the latter since it was also more budget friendly. The other reason why we reached out to Clay is that we wanted better visibility to our lake and mountain view. When it came to the design of our railings, Clay shared with us photos from past projects. We agreed on glass paneling for the main part of our deck, but for the side portions, that we would go with aluminum railings. Since we needed a lot of railing, we were afraid a stagnant line of white aluminum railing would look too much like a baby gate. To give the railings some dimension, we agreed on encapsulating the existing wooden posts with a composite sleeve, topped with a decorative cap. It was perfect and achieved the exact look we had in mind.

Fabulous! Clay is a perfectionist and it shows. We've done quite a few of these projects and this was, by far, the best workmanship and professionalism we've ever experienced. We added a few photos taken as the project was wrapping up. They don't do the new deck justice, but we're in the middle of a storm right now, so taking more photos isn't practical.

Clay and crew are very professional. The owner, Clay is very honest and provided solutions that worked with our budget. They are very punctual, reliable, and the work is excellent.

It really should have not taken a year for me to write a review. But for it to be still on my mind says a lot about Clay and his crew. This is the most professional man there is. Every good review you read about him is spot on. He did an outstanding job on our deck and we couldn't be more happy. He is very dedicated to his work and it shows. When he is doing your job it is the only one he is doing and stays until he is done. Every question we had from start to finish was answered and never with a bothersome attitude. He is very communicative man as well as one of the nicest people you will meet. I really could go on and on about the details but will just say that this was the best experience and you wont go wrong when hiring Advanced Decks & Rails.
