Gave us a quote on a tank less hot water heater. It was hard to contact the right person without a couple of emails back and forth to get a quote. They had less selection than some of the other companies we got quotes from. We chose another vendor due to the make of water heater we wanted (external) We did like the fact that they would handle the entire job start to finish instead of separate plumber and electrician. It seemed to take a while to get them out for a quote.

The entire process took about two weeks. They cleaned up everything behind them - they did a super job. The guys were nice and easy to talk to if we had concerns.
Description of Work: They did an energy audit first. They put a new top of the line furnace (replacing an old, crawlspace one with a new one inside the house), they put in more insulation and sealed our attic. They installed new can lights in our kitchen and living room, and put in a balloon in the fireplace to block off the draft in the flue.

I had originally planned for a sub-$300 repair but, thanks to missteps by former owners, ended up needing a new unit and a lot of work done to correct old DIY errors. Price was steep, but the quality and professionalism of the work was excellent.

We have used Washington Energy for many years and have had very good experiences, until this year. This fall has been a series of disasters with this company. In September our furnace started to malfunction. It took a few days to get an appointment. The technician told us we needed a new control board, which cost over $400. It was installed the next week. Less than 2 wks later the heat failed. We were out of town; our son was staying at the house. Washington Energy took 3 days to come out. They told my son there was a "rare" problem with the new control panel. They supposedly fixed it. Thankfully they did not charge. A month later we started having problems again. A technician came out and said he could not find the problem but did get the furnace going again. Twenty four hours later, the furnace failed again, on a subfreezing night. We called again, and a technician did come out today. He said the new control panel is faulty. He had the nerve to charge for a service call and said we "might " have to pay another $400 for a new control panel. He was not able to get the furnace going again. in the meantime, we had pretty much decided it was time to replace the furnace, which is fairly old. We called Washington Energy and were originally told the next available appointment to meet with a sales rep was almost 10 days away. I called again when the furnace failed for the final time. I was told that even though we have no heat, there was no one who could manage to meet with us for another 5 days. Furthermore, the phone rep could not tell me how long it would take to actually get the new furnace, once we selected one. This company seems to have gone completely downhill. The reps have little knowledge and no compassion. The techs don't know their business and apparently are out to gouge the customer under any circumstances. We are most likely taking our business elsewhere, and I may contact the Better Business Bureau.

I have only a couple minor problems with the insulation team. They forgot to replace a screen window, they didn't double check their work and one of the lights wasn't working and had to be re-wired; and they needed to be reminded to caulk around one of the lights. My biggest problem has been around the inspection and permitting on the gas fireplace. First of all, you call one of their numbers to schedule the inspection. I stayed home all day on a Friday; finally called the City of Bellevue around 3pm to see when they'd be out. Turns out there was a 'glitch' in the system and my inspection didn't really get scheduled. When it was rescheduled the following Monday; the electrical work failed the inspection. I have now been calling for over 2 weeks to get an electrician back out here to correct the problem and no luck so far. He was scheduled for yesterday after 2pm. I called 3 times (one at 5:30 pm) and was told he was on his way and would be calling me. I never got a call. I am so frustrated! They were very prompt about taking my money. The gas fireplace looks very nice; but it's useless until I get through the permitting process. Considering how much money I have spent with this company; I would expect better treatment. Actually, they should treat all of us better, no matter how much is spent. The professionalism rating is not for the teams that came out. They actually were very professional and did a great job. It is for the corporate office getting people out to correct the problem.
Description of Work: I had an energy audit and then they performed two separate projects. One was to install and fix the insulation in the attic and can lights; the second was to install a gas fireplace insert and to install a special filter for the furnace.

They scheduled an appointment right away and arrived when they said they would. They were pleasant and appeared professional and were able to leave us with an estimate to consider. The problem came later. Before making a commitment we wanted to get a second quote. When the second company i called first asked if I considered just having the glass replaced- which would save me considerable money. We hadn't been told it was an option, and of course we were very interested. Then in the same phone conversation, the second company found out that we had Millgaard brand windows. They said that I should speak directly with Milgaard. I was told my windows should have a lifetime guarantee on the seals so most likely, I wouldn't have to pay a single dime. They even looked up the phone number for me to call. Long story short(er)... our windows were replaced for free. Washington Energy Services was in our home. They saw our windows and knew who they were made by. (It was part of the discussion) T hey never once said we had the option of having only the glass replaced...and they never let on that we should call Milgaard to see if they'd be covered by warranty. Never. If we'd gone with them we'd be out close to $10,000. Shame on them. I left a very positive review for the company that led me to such a savings.
Description of Work: They came out to give a quote for replacing windows that had broken seals.

This has got to be one of the best experiences we've ever had with any kind of contractors, especially given that the work involved the water heater installation crew, a sales rep, energy auditor, two crews of insulators, (working at the same time to get 'er done more quickly,) HVAC crew, an electrician and his apprentice and a crew of two to install all the windows and hang all the doors. All of these guys were good at their jobs and seemed to be happy doing what they were doing. The insulation guys went at it hard for two and a half days and didn't lose their cheerfulness even when they realised just how cramped our crawlspace really is. They really worked hard! The HVAC guys accomplished an amazing amount of work in one day. I'd been expecting it to take at least a couple of days and they finished up in one. The windows and doors guys just carried on carrying on, despite me constantly getting in their way wanting to help. They got eight of the windows hung the first day, the back door hung and the big front window installed the second day, all the interior doors. (including four closet sliding/rolling doors,) hung the third day and installed all the hardware, (i.e., door knobs and handles,) plus hanging the truly beautiful front door on the fourth day. Pretty much everybody involved went above and beyond the call and did so cheerfully. This would include the folks who 'man' the phones. An absolutely satisfying experience, front to back.
Description of Work: They Started by installing a new water heater to replace our leaky old one. They did such a fine job of that that we had them do a rigorously thorough energy audit, after which we had them totally insulate both the crawlspace and attic , sealing all holes and securing all the vents, (to keep the critters out ,) and they wrapped all our exposed pipes to protect them from freezing, installed an exhaust fan in our bathroom and vented it out the roof, installed a ductless heat pump, installed 9 new windows, (triple pane, with a Never-Clean-Windows-Again coating inside and out and Lifetime Breakage Warranty,) and all new solid core doors. throughout our entire house.

We were in a bind today because we had a different plumbing company lined up to come out and disconnect the gas line to our dryer as our new dryer is being delivered tomorrow but the other plumber called 1 hour before scheduled arrival to say he was just too busy and wouldn't be able to come. We had scheduled that visit a week in advance! So, at the last minute we called Washington Energy Services (referred by Bob's Heating who we called since they put in our furnace). They were prompt and professional and had a guy out to see us a few hours later. We are having him come back next week to complete the work we had him give estimates on.

I have used Washington Energy in the past for heating and A/C, so when my water heater developed a leak on a weekend, I called them. They called back promptly, on a Sunday. They sent a technician out to do the job the next day. So they are very responsive. I wanted an Energy Star rated unit; however, due to changes in the rating system requiring electronic ignition for an ES rating, I wound up going with a non-ES Rheem, for $1400. They promised to obtain necessary permits from the city, and they charged me a $50 permit fee, and a $70 administrative fee for pulling the permit. The total cost for this new water heater, with permits and tax, was $1800.00. Getting a copy of the permits they supposedly pulled to do the job was a problem --numerous calls and a critical review here was required. The water heater works fine, cost seemed very expensive. The failure to give me a copy of the permits the first time was unprofessional. (Revised 11/2013) UPDATE: WSE contacted me to follow up on an earlier version of my review above to apologize for the permit problems. I now have my permit, and was also offered a refund of permit fees.

I responded to a unsolicited mailing from them to get another proposal to do the job. Their representative came to the house as promised, looked things over knowledgeably, and concluded they could do the job OK, but did not want to put the outside unit where I wanted it to go. They offered an alternative location (that I did not like) that would increase the installation cost considerably. While they seemed competent in every respect, their final price was far above others I had received, and I did not consider them further.

Superior job skills by both James and Chris. It was a nearly impossible removal, with only 1/4" of clearance in the utility and bathroom doors, (with 90 degree turns just outside each,) and 1/2" of clearance going into the living room. Lots of things could have gone wrong and didn't. Really excellent work! Dispatcher Joshua Vallee went above and beyond to get us back in hot water as quickly as possible. Thoroughly satisfying experience!

Washington Energy Service let us chose what type of siding we wanted to use. Teri was extremely professional, extremely knowledgeable, and extremely personable but in the end even with the discount their quote was higher and they were not doing as much.
