Fine...I paid $89 for them to tell me all my plumbing looked great. I guess on the bright side the didn't try to sell me something I did not need!
Description of Work: Not much, the ad wasn't very clear as to the specific action to be performed. For $89 they would be a seal caulk on your outdoor faucet, not a replacement.

Dear [member name removed] Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We're new to doing these Angie's list big deals and have learned a lot about how they write the copy. It did not have enough specifics for our standards either. We know for next time, and are sorry for any inconvenience to you. We appreciate your choosing us and hope to serve you again in the future. It took a little time to get the appointment on the books but all call backs were timely. The day of the appointment went well with a little bit of delay but still timely. The rep was very kind and respectful of our home. He went through our entire home checking valves hoses and lines under sinks, washer, water heater, faucets, toilets, and crawl space. He provided an estimate for a tankless water heater and updates to systems.

The wording on the deal was not specific enough. I have an outdoor faucet that needed replaced. The deal was for a faucet type that I did not have, so it would not apply. The gentlemen that came out was very good and understanding about my issue and helpful.

The inspection was okay. However, the services that he offered to do were so highly overpriced that we wouldn’t use them. We had concerns about water leaking in the tub area that might be going through the sub floor. We asked him for an estimate on some slow drains and things that needed snaking. We also asked him about replacing a faucet. He was good in his inspection in the crawlspace. The plumber was at the home for at least an hour.

The initial call out and estimate from Eric, one of their managers, was great, and he also provided ballpark guestimates on running a sub-panel for a planned hot tub and an automatic standby generator and transfer switch. A few days later when the technicians came out they were very professional and competent. I had the attic cleared out as I was doing a DIY air sealing and insulation job so they were able to access it easily and ran the new wiring to the new overhead box and switch effortlessly. The ceiling fan went in easily enough and even though they had to open a small hole in my sheetrock to make the wiring run to the switch I was still happy with the results, he patched the hole and I just had to spackle and paint the next day. The troubleshooting for the outside lights and GFCI outlet was a little less smooth, but that was not of any fault of the techs. It seems the previous owner did some interesting non-standard DIY "rigging" that led to a few shorts, one which ended up blowing the photo-senor eye that turns on my porch lights. Even though this really wasn't their fault they credited back the cost of a replacement unit and replaced it on the spot for no extra fee. They were able to get the outlet running but not the in-ground driveway lights. They were able to isolate the problem to a short (most likely a wire break in the underground run) and offered to continue on, but at $85/hr and with the prospect of digging trenches all through the garden beds I decided it was best to leave it as it was and have them disconnect the wiring so it wouldn't short out again. Later I pulled up the lights myself and replaced them with low voltage lighting from HD. All in all I was satisfied with the work, the price was a bit high but competitive with other vendors, good electricians aren't cheap. My only complaint is that I called Eric back later on to ask a few questions about the other quotes and never heard back. I will be trying again to see if I can get an official quote because I would like to get the generator installed before the winter, and maybe the hot tub next spring.
Description of Work: Installed ceiling fan (new run to new overhead box and new switch) Troubleshot and repaired outside GFCI outlet Attempted to troubleshoot outdoor lighting but it became obvious this would end up costing more than it was worth.

Well I was thinking I'd end up with a 'fix it' list for my house, but got the feeling that the inspection was more about getting a foot in the door for a sales proposal. Perhaps the existing plumbing in my house is just too far gone and loosey-goosey to warrant doing any more patches, but I definitely wasn't expecting a quote for over $10K! I might have purchased a home that has too many plumbing problems I guess :)
Description of Work: They looked at my current plumbing and borrowed a pen to write up a complete house re-plumb of the water supply to all fixtures & appliances.

Dear [removed member name], Thanks for your feedback. We appreciate your comments and we will make sure the plumber understands. It's not our intention to be salesy. Washington Energy (old Washington Natural Gas company) gave a bid. When I questioned how the bid was constructed, the representative said they had had problems with a spread sheet and re-submitted their bid - which reduced their estimate from ±$800 to less than $500.00. They actually apologized for the mistake. They were on time, efficient, careful, cleaned up after their work was completed. We had our general contractor inspect the basement area after they were done with their work. He too had glowing reports about how professional their work was. One of those rare home improvement projects that works exactly as it was designed to do, by professionals who were excellent

Suggested a lot of replacements. The absolutely necessary version would be $1343. The better version would be $1921. When I recovered, I decided to get some more estimates. The company I finally hired to do the work said that a lot of WES recommendations were unnecessary. Their absolutely necessary version came to $486. There wasn't a "better" version.

We were completely satisfied with the workmanship. Both Jerry and Nick were very accommodating; it seemed to matter as much to them as it did to us that the job was done right. They went out of their way to answer our questions and concerns. And we did have some concerns. We understood, from Mike, that we would not need to paint the trim around the windows because it would be removed when the new window trim was installed and we were given a very short list of things we had to prepaint. In fact, as we understood Mike's direction, we instructed the men who installed our new windows not to worry about installing and sealing the window trim because it would be part of the siding project. We ended up furiously painting trim and the outer edges of the soffits for three days, trying to stay ahead of Jerry, who, as a courteous gesture, caulked the new windows for us and adjusted his work pattern accordingly. We would not have had a problem with painting and preparing had we been properly and thoroughly informed. What Jerry explained to us did not, in any way, approximate what Mike told us. When you are asking customers to pay as much as we paid for this project, your sales personnel and your project crew should always be on the same page. That did not happen for us.
Description of Work: Siding on house. Jerry and Nicholas were wonderful. They went straight to work each day, explained everything they were doing as they progressed, left a neat work space when they left in the evening. Jerry was meticulous in his approach to areas of the house construction that challenged the artistic component of the siding project. We so appreciate his concern that the overall effect was appealing to us.

After waiting a week I called the salesman and told him nobody had contacted us yet. He called back and told us that the air handling unit he quoted us doesn't match up with the heat pump any more, and he expected us to spend an additional 1200.00 dollars for the "right" one. I wasn't happy with this so I contacted the office to talk with a manager of some sort, but they were never available and never called me back. I got my deposit back and feel fortunate that i didn't get stuck with these guys.
Description of Work: They showed up and looked over the house. They wrote up an estimate and left it with me. After getting 4 estimates we decided to go with WES for a heat pump system. The plumbing technician, Mike Oliver, called in advance of arrival to communicate estimated time of arrival. Completed the plumbing inspection and then offered to take care of some identified issues while there (see above details). Also discovered a slow laundry drain pipe which will need to be snaked...didn't have a snake long enough to do the job at present so will arrange to have someone out as soon as possible to do that. Very pleased with all aspects of service provided.

Everything went according to plan with no surprises. The men who did the work were very courteous, hardworking, and efficient. They cleaned all the air ducts prior to starting the job and finished in six hours. They arrived promptly on the job on the day they said they would, and certainly knew what they were doing. They left the garage clean and tidy before they left. I was given clear instructions on how to program the thermostat and the air conditioner itself. The price was the lowest of the four bids I received, and I had had them on a previous occasion to insert a gas fire in my fireplace. l

I had some windows installed last year by Washington Energy Services and was happy with the result so I contacted them about getting an estimate for installing some more windows. I had an appointment scheduled for 9am on a Monday morning, at 9:10 I called Will Beck ( the home energy specialist) to see how much later he would be as I had to get to work and the appt was scheduled for an hour. I received his voice mail and l left a message. At 9:15 I called Washington Energy Services to tell them I would have to cancel the appointment, while waiting on hold for Mr. Beck called me to say he was on his way it was now 9:20. I told him I had to cancel the appointment, he said he had run over with his earlier client. I told him I would have expected a call if he was going to be late and we ended the conversation. When I eventually got through to Washington Energy Services I explained my frustration that at the lateness of the representative of their company and I remembered that when I had the first install done the workman were an hour late (should have been an indicater). I have not received a call back from anyone at the company. I would never use them again nor would I recommend them. My boss recommended them to me originally and I will tell him of my experience. A 12 year old water heater was replaced by a plumbing company (with no problems). After a year the pilot light would go out, sometimes once a week but other times once a month. Not sure if it was weather or garage-cleaning (with a leaf blower) related, I let it go for a few months as it seemed less problematic in the summer. When I woke up to a cold shower Friday, I finally decided to call Washington Energy Services since they seem to know all about both water heaters and natural gas. Called Candice at 8AM, got a call back within 40 minutes by Erin to schedule, and had an appointment for the same day. Micah called at 11:45 and he and Todd were there just after noon. They spent quite some time checking out the water heater installation (which was good) and found a couple possible issues, one was a vent tube that had a slight gap/leak, and some soot/sediment at the pilot light burner itself. They charged a reasonable amount of time (actual time working on the problem vs actual time at the house, not charging for the 10 minutes going over my concerns and checking the natural gas flow, or the 5 to 10 minutes explaining what they did when they were done.) I am optimistic but since it only happened periodically, I can't say for sure the problem is solved. Regardless, the service Washington Energy Services provided was quickly scheduled, reasonably priced, and top notch.
