Since a new Bryant Heat Pump had been installed a year ago, I assumed it carried Bryant's standard 5 year warranty, which would cover the replacement cost of this "defrost control board". WES stated that the new heat pump was considered a "part" of an installed system, and carried no warranty, so I owed them $800 for the defective control board. I contacted Bryant and they said that my heat pump carried a 5 year warranty and the defective control board was covered. I notified WES of this discrepancy, and they honored Bryant's warranty. I was satisfied in the end with WES's repair, but it took some aggressive tactics to make my case. I was disappointed that the burden to prove the warranty coverage fell to me, the customer.
Description of Work: Replace a "defrost control board" in a Bryant heat pump that was a year old in 2015. Washington Energy Services installed the original heat pump in 2004, but it had been upgraded to a newer model in 2014.

Lots of talk but very poor follow-through, install date was later than promised and then it was aborted by the techs due to sale's person's error that would have cost me over $700 more than originally quoted (and ended up costing us a couple extra weeks without a/c) if I hadn't brought my concerns up to a manager, and it was very difficult to get in touch with anyone when I needed to- in one instance I asked for verification of our maintenance plan in writing and I was told by the coordinator that she had to verify it with the manager and would get back to me- I sent several emails asking if she'd gotten the info yet and then called a couple times over several weeks before I got through to a manager (on a 2nd call after he hadn't returned my first call) who finally verified it and sent to me... Installation itself, once completed has been fine, but it was much farther out than originally promised and there were issues with the install... They came to install and couldn't complete the job. We were told the sales person or manager would be in touch by end of the day or early next day to talk and reschedule, but I didn't hear from anyone and had to call them back at the end of the next business day and they said they'd have someone contact us the next day... The sales person who messed up didn't seem very apologetic and said that it was more difficult than he thought and he'd have to increase the price significantly, but then I spoke with a manager who apologized and the install problem was figured out and it was installed for the original price quoted... **Note that the original price they quoted was already slightly more than 2 other companies who both had told us at the beginning that it was a difficult install and that's why their quotes were so high!** The sales person talked a lot, was asked some difficult questions, gave us a quote, and promised an install date about 2 weeks from our meeting, but none of it came together as he said it would. He was very difficult to get in touch with, and when we were called a week later to schedule, that gal told us it was 2 weeks from talking to her, not him (which I specifically verified with the sales person when we talked). Of course due to his error, it ended up being even later... And as for my questions, after calling and asking for answers because he didn't get back to me himself, I still never did get a good answer and called the manufacturer myself. The whole process was HORRIBLE and LONG and if we hadn't already started working with them early on, we would have gone with someone else... but everyone else was booked out later because this all took so much time that it was changing seasons! The only reason they get a D instead of an F is because ultimately the a/c works, and even though the manager wasn't easy to reach and didn't return calls, I was able to get through to him and he did follow through with our original quoted price and maintenance agreement. I can't give a C because C is average, and there was absolutely nothing average about this experience. And as for price, if they really would have quoted us nearly a thousand more because of the difficult install, that would have put their price far over the competitors who already acknowledged it was going to be difficult, so D...

Initial audit went well - easy to schedule, provider showed up on time. We were presented with three packages of recommended product options (e.g. "bronze", "silver", "gold"). After reviewing we asked for an updated estimate where some of the options were added and some were removed. This process took awhile of back and forth throughout which our contact was fairly responsive. Understanding the various pros and cons of the individual options was never fully clear and after sitting on the information for a long time, we finally settled on a customized package. Because so much time had passed, it took the scheduling team a while and some back-and-forth correspondence to locate our file. Finally, we were able to get the service scheduled. We were told it could be up to three days of work. On the first day, two individuals showed up to prep the attic and crawlspace. They arrived around 10 and was done by 2. On the second day, they brought an additional worker and worked from about 9 to 3. They didn't need a third day. They were courteous and professional and kept the house clean as they worked. They took before and after photos which they allowed me to download from their camera's SD card to my computer. I was told that I'd receive a call to schedule an appointment with a tech who'd come out to review the final work. After three days, I made the call to schedule myself. I spent nearly 20 minutes attempting to explain what I was trying to schedule (I guess I shouldn't have used the phrase "follow-up audit" as an "audit" means the initial consultation) before finally getting the appointment made. In the meantime, our pest control provider came to check the crawlspace traps and noted that the workers had left dozens of 12-18" metal pins scattered across the ground. As part of the batt reattachment service, they'd pulled out all of the pins that had been holding the batts up and used different means to reattach the batts. But they didn't finish cleaning up. When the tech came to examine the work, he cleaned most of the pins up as he reviewed the crawlspace install. He was also friendly and professional and though he arrived significantly after the originally scheduled time, he had called me in advance to let me know he was running late. Sadly, he observed that not all of the work had been completed - the workers forgot to reinsulate the main trunk in the garage, which I myself missed - so said he'd have the office call me to schedule that work. After two days of waiting, I called them and scheduled the work. As of this writing, that appointment is still in the future but I'll ensure they remove the rest of the pins and complete the full scope of service. When the providers are here, they're great. However, getting them here and understanding the relative benefits of the service options (e.g. What's the benefit to doing r-49 insulation over r-30 for an extra $350?) was challenging and at times frustrating. I'd probably hire again but would do so knowing that I'd have to do a lot of legwork. Overall, I'm glad we had the work done but I'm more glad to have this behind me.

Because summers in Seattle aren’t what they used to be, my husband and I decided it was time to install air-conditioning. And working with Washington Energy Service from estimate to completion was great! Charles from WES was a gem to work with. From the initial meeting to the very last day of installation, he was there every step of the way. What my husband and I really appreciated about Charles and WES was the fact that they were willing to work with us in pricing. We initially got a really high estimate from them (and other companies) and were afraid that we wouldn’t be able to get air conditioning, but after talking with Charles and letting him know that their estimate did not fit within our budget, they really went out of their way to meet our needs. When it came time to do the installation, the techs, Chris and Patrick worked on the AC installation. They were great. And really knew what they were doing. They were working so hard, we bought them lunch! They even worked overtime to make sure that the thermostat was working properly. They worked really well with our electricians and everything went smoothly. They showed up exactly on time for the installation and had the project completed in an entire day. I really appreciated that they cleaned up after themselves and left the area spotless. And this wasn’t our first time working with WES, they also installed a brand new water heater when ours died last year. I would highly recommend WES and will definitely use them again if I have additional projects.

crews showed up as planned. this was a 2 day installation. installation was smooth and they cleaned as they went. once completed everything was clean and tidy. I was taken through the system with plenty of time for questions and how to operate the system as well as inspect the installation. there were no installation problems that came up or any addition costs. Washington Energy services did all the paperwork associated with permits, follow up inspections and working rebate paperwork with PUD. truly a turn key installation.

They recommended a very good model of heat pump and they installed it. They had to do some extra site work where was it was installed and they did that. They trimmed back some shrubs to make it work better. They gave us advice as to where it should be located as to where we wanted it located. They had to tie it in with our existing system. They left the furnace in place and had to tie it into the furnace system. They did not finish what they needed to do with the thermostat for the furnace. They had to come back and fix that later, which they did. My wife says there was a series of little things. It was the price they gave us and we agreed to. My wife had a slightly negative experience with one of the electricians that came out afterwards.

I can not praise this company any higher. They were phenomenal. We had aluminum framed windows from the mid-80s that sweat like crazy and I had mold issues around several of them. Many of the seals had broken. After speaking to four different companies (one came out and measured but never provided a quote, one used high pressure sales tactics, and the other didn't even measure the windows), Washington Energy Services was the most professional, extremely responsive, and provided a number of rebates (both manufacturer's and SnoPUD). They arrived on time, got the job done in less than the three days they estimated, and the product looks outstanding. The windows also have a 25 year warranty, transferable to future owners. If there are any future issues with the windows, they will be here to make the fix. Todd Brown was the salesman and communicator, and Ben and Jim were the installers. All were awesome to work with. You can't go wrong with these guys.

I'd love to be able to say that all went well with Washington Energy Services, because the end result in our home seems to be working quite well. But, unfortunately I can't do that. When it came time to replace the existing (and defective) hydronic heating system in our home, we knew that the best, and likely only, option was to go with a ductless heat pump. We asked for bids from five companies and selected Washington Energy Services for a combination of reasons: 1) Price. They came in at the lowest price. We would easily have considered a 2nd or 3rd lowest price option, so while important, this wasn't a deciding factor. 2) Options. WES was the only contractor that provided us with three options for the new equipment (they labeled them Good, Better and Best, with corresponding increases in price). We liked that. 3) Timeliness. Charles, the sales guy from WES, promised to get us the bid quickly, and he did. Some others took noticeably longer, and we take the efficiency with which a company can provide an accurate quote to be indicative of the quality of the company. In fact, months later, we're still awaiting a reply from one of the five companies we'd asked to provide a quote. 4) Completeness of bid. WES's quote included absolutely everything. We liked that. Some others did not. 5) Experience decommissioning the old, faulty, system. They've done it plenty of times before. One of the other companies hadn't ever heard of it. THE GOOD We really like the new Fujitsu ductless heat pump they recommended and installed. Both the heat and the air conditioning provided by the new system work as expected and as promised, so our home is toasty warm or pleasantly cool, depending on the weather outside. Everybody at WES with whom we dealt on this project was pleasant, polite and professional. Very, very nice people -- even to the point of asking if it was OK to use the bathroom in our home when they were there for a very long day of installation. They cleaned everything up very nicely when they left. But, then. . . THE NOT SO GOOD This was quoted as a one-day, fixed cost, job. It wasn't even remotely one. The install crew had to come back for about five hours on the second day to complete the project. Fortunately we'd scheduled the install for a Friday, so the second day was a Saturday and we had the flexibility to be home that day. And, yes, the lead installer was VERY nice about explaining the situation to us, but they were nowhere near done by the end of the first day. Yes, since it was fixed cost, there wasn't a single penny more that we owed, but the timing was way off. They used our neighbor's outdoor outlet to power their tools without asking. That's a no-no. Their subcontracted electrician obviously didn't work for them, as he didn't have the same type of gracious personna as everybody from WES. He got the job done, but he also parked his van in our neighbor's private parking space. I doubt that he'd like it if we parked in his driveway. (BTW, the WES guys very nicely asked if they could park in our private spot. Of course they could! Because they asked.) When they repurposed our hot water heater to provide only hot water, for some inexplicable reason, they left the pressure release valve to drain out onto the floor. It previously had not had this "feature," and so we now sometimes get water on the floor. But, the most egregious issue was that they didn't even apply for the mechanical permit for the job until AFTER the job was complete. When I noticed this and called our primary contact to ask about the issue, he just sort of gave me a mumbling reply. He knew it wasn't right; I'm not a contractor, but I know it wasn't right. If an inspector had come by, there would have been issues, obviously. Yes, I know that had there been issues that WES would have handled them professionally and I wouldn't have been on the hook for any money, but you don't do this. I posed a review about them on Yelp (most of this review is the same as I posted there, with a few updates, including this paragraph). Jonathan Rundle, their digital marketing director, replied to that review quite quickly, noting that a manager may reach out to me to discuss the issues we had. I quickly noted his use of the word "may" in his reply, which implies no obligation to do so. As I pretty much expected, I never heard anything from one of their managers. NEITHER GOOD NOR BAD It took many weeks after signing our contract to get on their schedule. From our perspective, this was a negative (because it was getting cold and we didn't have heat!), but one could look at the inverse and also say that because WES is generally good at what they do and do it at a fair price they're very popular. IN CONCLUSION Would we use WES again for a project of this nature? Probably. We're pleased with the finished product, and much of the path that got us here was good. Other parts were not good -- especially the permit issue, which they just pretty much shrugged off. I recommended them to my next door neighbor, and she has had a horrible experience with them providing a new hot water heater. So, YMMV.
Description of Work: Washington Energy Services did the following for us: -- Decommissioned our Kitec hydronic heating system -- Repurposed our existing hot water heater from doing double duty for both the heating system and providing hot water to just providing hot water -- Furnished and installed a new Fujitsu ductless heat pump system in our home

Hi [Member Name Removed], Jonathan here. Thanks for also sharing your review here. I assure you we have had internal discussions with our employees specifically about your install experience. We have taken this experience and learned from it. In your review on yelp, you ask the question "would we use WES again?" your answer was "almost definitely." It appears you've reconsidered for the Angie's List review and have changed it to read "probably." Before now, it appeared you were happy with the service and product and it likely did not warrant further exploration. The yelp review concluded "We're pleased with the finished product, and much of the path that got us here was great. And I know that they're going to read this, reply and address the issues, so I really don't have qualms about that." Which led us to believe we had a happy customer that experienced some unfortunate bumps along the way, which we promised to address. If there is something you would like us to address additionally, please let us know by calling us at 800-398-4663. We're happy to hear your concerns and address anything you may ask of us.

The job took two days to complete. Crews were very professional and efficient. All old widows and sliders taken away and everything was cleaned up when done. Installation was very efficient and the windows look great. I am very happy with the service and the look and quality of the windows.
Description of Work: Replaced all of the windows in my house (16) and two sliding glass doors with new double pane vinyl windows.
