UNDERHILL'S FURNITURE

We bought furniture there and thought we were getting an excellent bargain however we later discovered that the grade of solid wood is actually low grade. We discovered this after visiting with a friend who is actually a cabinet maker and builds furniture as a hobby. We spent close to $10,000 to furnish our home and no one there explained how wood grade affects furniture price. The price is at best average if not a little expensive for the grade of materials used. In addition, we were told that our sofa comes with a lifetime manufacturer warrantee. When we realized that one of the cushions became flat within 4 months after very light use, we tried to contact the manufacturer but was not able to. When we asked Underhills on how we could get in touch with the manufacturer they said that they would contact them on our behalf. After three attempts including visiting them in person twice on this matter we still have not been able to resolve this issue. Needless to say, we feel deceived and will not return there. This all occurred this year, 2009.

I really have liked Underhill's Furniture but the last time I went they were not as friendly. The way the store feels and the way people approach is a big thing for me. It might have just been an off day for them but it is just a pet pieve of mine. I think there are better ways to explain things to potential customers.

The original delivery estimate on the couch was four weeks, which turned into ten weeks, they screwed up with the order and had to reorder it from their factory in China. The beautiful dining room table started to peel and crack at the knotholes within a year, with minor use and careful care. Turns out the fine quality stain finish was actually just a laminate cover. It now looks shabby. When my wife called to ask about having it repaired, she was informed that they wouldn't do anything about it because it wasn't under warranty. Mind you, we didn't say we wouldn't pay for a repair, we just wanted to get our table restored so we can enjoy it for the next 10 years. When my wife called to ask how to get a stain out of one of our couch cushions, she was told that it was in the warranty information and that they didn't keep that information around and she would have to find it herself. The store manager did call back later to give us a phone number he found somewhere.

THE SALESPEOPLE WERE HELPFUL AND COURTEOUS. THE FURNITURE WAS DELIVERED TO THE STORE IN A TIMELY FASHION AND ON TIME SO WE COULD PICK UP. PRICES WERE VERY COMPETITIVE. WE PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED OUR BEDROOM SET AND WERE SO PLEASED WITH QUALITY AND SERVICE, WE RETURNED TO PURCHASE OUR SON'S BEDROOM SET.
