When I spoke with him, he was booked solid for a couple of months. He was able to refer me to another company who was able to take care of my emergency repair. He seemed to be very professional and nice on the phone.

We noticed a leak under our sink and could not seem to find the source, other than it was coming from around the faucet. We called Protocol and Erich showed up on time and ready to work. He quickly removed the faucet and showed us the break in the copper tubing that was causing the leak. It necessitated getting a new faucet. Erich waited while I drove to Lowe's to get a new one. When I returned, he put in the new faucet and we found that it was defective. So, he had to remove the faucet he had just installed, pack it up, and wait for me as I made the trip back to Lowe's to return it and get a new one. Upon my return, he immediately installed it and it worked perfectly. The thing that impressed me the most was how calm and understanding Erich was, and the fact that he refused to charge me for the time spent going back and forth to Lowe's twice. He only billed me as though he had come to the house to install a faucet that I already had on premises. I highly recommend him for any plumbing needs you have.

Chuck's second best characteristic is his calm, personable manner. There were difficult challenges involved in modernizing this second floor bathroom in a 91 year old house. A wall, containing shower access, was moved. The vent from the sink was going to interfere with installing a medicine cabinet. We saved the original pedestal sink, which turned out to be impossible to fit with a modern drain. Chuck made several trips and tried several options (and I think bought a few drain pieces that didn't work) until voila! He had solved the problem and everything worked like a charm. I can't overstate that this was a very thorny challenge. Chuck was always calm, always cheerful, always demonstrated confidence that the outcome would be satisfactory. And therein lies his first best characteristic: his professionalism. Behind this excellent employee must be an excellent company, Protocol Plumbing and Sewer.
Description of Work: As a subcontractor on our bathroom remodel with Kitchen Plus, Chuck Garibay came as soon as the demolition was finished. He worked closely and cooperatively with the project manager to decide the placement of all fixtures. When the tiling was finished, he returned to check the installation of all plumbing fixtures, caulk the toilet and sink, tighten the shower, and make sure everything was working as it should.

Protocol Plumbing, it's employees and owner Erich Klemp are a homeowner's dream. Honest, ethical, professional, I can't think of enough positives, but you get the idea. We had several issues in our 17 year old house. He looked at each one, made suggestions, offered alternatives, never pushy. We didn't realize that the old water heater had far outlived it's normal life span, but he said we were about five years overdue. He also showed us debris in the faucets that had come from there via faucets in kitchen and bath. It was a no-brainer to replace it. He didn't try to get me to buy a new sink, but in the process of replacing the hardware, showed me how it had badly rusted. I asked if he could find a sink for us and he had it within a day. I also thought I might have a blockage in the pipes, because the toilet was plugging on a regular basis. There was no clog and the problem was basically the same as the sink, that is, that the builder got the cheapest things he could find and because they had steel insides, instead of porcelain, they both suffered from lots of rust and clogged vents. I found out about the toilet on the second day they were here. I asked if he could recommend one that I could get at Lowe's and he did. I said, "If I go and get it, while you're doing the water heater, would you have tine to install it today?" He said that he'd make the time. And so he did. One other note that reflects his ethics. The upstairs was remove on Thursday, by his employee and the new one came with them the next day. After Erich had installed the new sink and hardware, he called me up to look. He pointed out a very small chip in the counter tile and asked if that had been there prior to their visit. I said that I couldn't remember any incident that might have caused it, but we've been in the house for quite a while and I couldn't swear to it. He thought for a moment and said, he thought it probably happened when the old sink was removed. and said he was giving me the new one at half price. I said he didn't have to do that, but he wouldn't hear of it and said it was the right thing to do. If he'd just walked away, I never would have known. I think this speaks volumes about his character. Any future jobs will certainly go to him and I'd give him a AAA rating if I could.
Description of Work: Installed new sink, hardware, new toilet in upstairs bath. New toilet seal, downstairs bath, new hardware for kitchen sink. New hot water heater.

As everyone has stated, Erich is very professional, polite, thorough, responsive, etc. etc. Perhaps where I made the mistake was to not get a quote for services before having him come out to the house. Within about 15 minutes, he realized the issue was not actually with the toilet itself because he tried snaking it and removing toilet to look for clog. He explained that it must be a septic issue and showed me where the septic line was that had standing water. I am happy with his service, however I can't help feeling that $220 was a lot of money to spend to end up not fixing the problem. I understand some parts were involved that I need to pay for, and time for the labor as well - but he was here and gone in less than one hour so $220 seems quite outrageous to me. In the future, if I have an issue I KNOW is plumbing related, I would use Erich as he seemed like a quality worksman. However, I will get a quote for a house call before hand so I will be better prepared. I wouldn't have a problem paying that if something were actually fixed, but again seems a high price to pay to end up sending me elsewhere to fix the problem I was having.
Description of Work: Evaluated why my downstairs toilet was not flushing properly. Attempted snaking the toilet, lifting toilet to look for clog, and investigating septic drain to understand why toilet wouldn't flush even though there were no clogs or problems with the toilet itself.

Erich called me within a few hours after I left my voice mail and was out early the next morning. Even though the issues required far less than one hour to be addressed, he gave us the Angie's List discount for services over one hour. As noted on other posts, he was polite and had a thorough invoice that was very legible. Erich was not only professional, he was very pleasant and personable as well. Both issues turned out to be easily remedied, so we had time to get his opinion on some projects we've been considering in the future. We will not hesitate to call Erich again in the future for plumbing needs.

We were having concrete work done in the garage when a small hole was discovered in the stack pipe. We called Protocol right away. At first Erich was not sure if he would be able to have someone come out today. I explained to him what we were doing in the garage and he was able to have Chuck come and look at it. I expected him to give us an estimate and have to come back the next day. However, he was able to fix the pipe right away. He save us alot of time and rework of the concrete.

see above. The only thing that would have made the experience easier for our family would have been if he could have picked up the toilet at the wholesaler/ supplier, which is located just a mile or so from our condo, rather than asking that our daughter pick it up. But he did take it out of her car for her.
Description of Work: This review is a bit disjointed as an experience but it was the excellence of the company (Protocol)and the plumber (Erik?) who provided the continuity and pulled it all together for us!!! We purchased a small condo 100 miles from where we live so we could spend time with our daughter and grand-daughter. We contacted Erik through Angie's List because the first night we spent in the condo, the toilet over-flowed in the middle of the night and it continued to overflow without provocation or warning in the days and weeks that followed. Erik came by just a few days after we called, met with us and we agreed to proceed by replacing the toilet. In the mean-time, we had an untimely illness and death in the family and were forced to drop everything for almost a year. When we could finally pick up where we left off it was as if it had been 12 days rather than nearly 12 months. Erik remembered exactly who we were and what we needed to have done and came to do the work in short order. Here's where is gets disjointed, our daughter is the one who met him and let him in to do the work, we were never there and never saw him again, and my husband paid the bill and I'm the one writing the review. But after speaking to all involved, we all agree it was a great experience at a great price. The funny thing is that all through our plumbing difficulties as we searched for a plumber in a new town, our daughter kept saying, " I have a plumber I really like and trust......you should call him". And I kept saying, "thanks, but I want to find someone on Angie's List". When he came to the door to do the work it turns out that her plumber was our plumber too!!! We are planning to call him in the next few months to help us replace our hot water heater. He's a gentleman and very good at what he does!!!

We had a floor drain in our laundry room that was backing up and flooding. Erich came out quickly. He was very responsive to all my questions. He clearly explained what he was doing and why he was doing it. He methodically determined that my sewer was fine and not causing the issue. Even though our plumbing in that area is a little funky, he was able to clear the drain from a nearby shower and fixed the problem. Erich is very personable and easy to talk to.

Quick response and setting of a time to perform the work. Arrived on time, had to change some things because of the size of the Rheem Marathon water heater. He had to get another pan and added a turnoff valve. Cleaned up after the work. Would not have know he had been here except for the new hot water heater.

How could you find a better plumber? Not a chance. He is so diligent and responsive. Cares about the quality of his work. Reasonable pricing for excellent work. It doesn't get any better.
Description of Work: Other workers in crawl space reported some water "drops" on pipes. Called Erich to make necessary pipe repairs. He came that day because he had already fixed a broken pipe and wanted to check if there was a problem there. There was no problem with his work -- It turned out the water "drops" were just condensation because the pipes were exposed to the cold (this was between time when old and damaged insulation was removed and the crawl space aired out before new insulation was installed). Erich checked all the pipes (taking the opportunity because they were already exposed) and explained how the condensation was natural. He also gave me advice about making sure the pipes did not freeze during a freezing weather spell before the installers returned with the insulation in a few days. He did not charge me, because he said he came to check out his work from before (which of course was fine - no problems at all).

I had used Erich before to replace and install a new vanity and toilet in my powder room after a water leak destroyed the floor. When the insulation installers spotted a leaking pipe under a different part of my house, I called Erich and he fit me into his schedule immediately. He went into the crawl space and found and replaced the broken pipe. It was shooting up into the sub floor. He went through my house upstairs to locate any potential damage to the sub floor or walls. He found the damaged wall in a garage alcove hidden by my stuff. He took photos for me under the house, and I used his thorough invoice to communicate with my insurance company about any damage caused by the leak for my insurance claim. He is totally honest and trustworthy. I have had one leak which destroyed my bathroom floor and lead to the unfortunate discovery of many other problems under my house with the drainage and insulation. At various times I've called other plumbers. The estimates for small jobs (like installing a sump pump that I had already purchased can vary from $1200 to $300). The plumbers know that you want to repair leaks and water problems immediately, and other plumbers will take advantage with outrageous bills. Erich is totally reasonable in his pricing for diligent and dependable work. Since I found him, I avoid all the other plumbers. I give him the highest recommendation for the honest and diligent plumber.

I had a leak at the shut off valve to the toilet which destroyed the wood floor. I called another plumbing service that offered a $59 discount, and I explained that the shut off valve was leaking and needed to be replaced. They sent out a two person crew and wanted to charge me $427 for essentially 15 minutes of work. When I complained they reduced the price by $150 but would not take the coupon. I had called Erich at Protocol early that morning, and when he returned my call while the other plumbers were working, he clearly stated his reasonable hourly fee. I told him that I would call him first the next time. The insurance company had a water mitigation company come in tear out the vanity and toilet and floor to dry out the bathroom. When it was time to install a new vanity and toilet, I called Erich. He was professional and efficient. His work was excellent and careful. His pricing is honest and reasonable. He is completely trustworthy in his work and pricing. When the water mitigation crew came in, they told me my crawl space was flooded. I climbed in and pulled out the broken sump pump and ordered a new one from Amazon. I called a recommended plumber who estimated over $1300 for simply replacing the sump pump that I had already purchased. They said that the basin was not up to code and the pump had to be calibrated, etc. I ended up getting the external storm sewer company to include it in their work tying my downspouts to a new dry well and they charged $300 for the same work. I told Erich, and he was surprised by the first estimate. When there is a leak causing damage to other parts of your home or flooding, there is great urgency to have a plumber fix it that day. I have learned that plumbers can overcharge and vastly differ in their estimates, because there is usually great urgency to repair water damage and they know you are up against a wall. I now call Erich for everything. His work is excellent and you can trust his pricing. I highly, highly, highly recommend him.

Erich came out to our house for what was originally supposed to be an estimate on New Year's Eve for our "singing" pipes. Originally he thought it'd be an easy fix so he went ahead and started to do some work, ended up staying 2 hours. He realized that our issue could not be fixed that day as planned, apologized profusely and gave us recommendations on we need to do in order for him to get back in to fix the humming. I was very impressed at his willingness to perform the work on the spot and when it couldn't be fixed that day, didn't charge us anything yet. Erich was very personable, on time, and thorough. Overall, I feel as though Erich went above and beyond what we had originally asked of him. We will absolutely be calling him back for this problem as well as any other service needs we have in the future.

Having no water in my kitchen was a big inconvenience. I thought it would take days to get someone to fix the plumbing. ACtually became an Angie's List customer in order to search for a plumber. So glad I did. The customer testimonials were the deciding factor in my choice - which is why I am taking the time to comment on Erik. As I said he was there quickly, had the part that was needed. Understood my need for a separate water line control to the refrigerator, and did the work.
Description of Work: Refrigerator was leaking, turned off water under sink and applied a plug to the line going to the refrigerator. When I attempted to turn the water back on, the connection from the street began leaking badly. So I had to turn off the water. Called Erich Klemp at Protocol, and he responded quickly. Diagnosed the problem. Installed a dual stop so the sink and the refrigerator now each have their own source. thus when the refrigerator is fixed, I can simply turn the handle and have water. Erik was very professional. I would call on him for any future plumbing need.

I telephoned Erich Klemp of Protocol Plumbing and requested that he come and install an extremely high-end replacement faucet in the kitchen that I had ordered directly from the factory. The new unit was replacing another high-end faucet that had been installed during my kitchen remodel. Erich showed up punctually as promised and efficiently installed the new unit. He was very pleasant, dependable and delightful to work with. I definitely will use Erich Klemp of Protocol Plumbing & Sewer for future projects and will highly recommend him to others.

Overall the job went very well. Prior to the job I spoke with Erich after emailing his company and 3 other through Angie's List. Protocol was the only one that called back. We scheduled an appointment for Monday morning at which he showed up promptly. I showed him the work to be done. He gave an estimate and I when he could do the work. He mentioned how busy the were but had one person cancel some work and could have 2 workers there the next day. The following morning he called and said that 1 person, Chuck, would be there at 9 and the other worker was called to a different job. Chuck was right on time, professional and no nonsense. We went over the work to be done and he went forward completing the tasks. At the end of the day Erich and another person stopped by to help remove the water tank and to make sure everything went fine. It was good to have Erich follow up to make sure everything went as scheduled. It really gives the homeowner piece of mind knowing that there are those followup procedures being done by the bosses. I will contact Protocol Plumbing and Sewer when I need their services again.

Eric responded very quickly to my email request for service and was easy to schedule an appointment with. He did an excellent job locating the source of the leak and did a very good repair on the pipe. When we noticed a second leak he did just as nice of a job on that repair. His price was very close to what he estimated the cost to be, even with the second, unexpected leak and even though the job took longer than expected to complete. He has a very pleasant personality and was very professional. He cleaned up his workspace very well when the job was done and made sure that I was satisfied with the quality of work provided. I would highly recommend him and will use him again with any future plumbing needs.

I called Protocal Plumbing and spoke with Erich Kemp, I told him my garbage disposal was leaking. Erich was very easy to talk to he told me he was on his way to another job and would call me as soon as he finished the job he was on his way to. He called back within an hour and said he was on his way that it would be about a half hour. Sure enough he was here with in the stated time. He had to go get a new disposal for me and as he walk out the door he said "you are off the clock. Erich returned about 20 minutes later and got right to work installing the new disposal. Once he was done he checked everything and cleaned up everything. I enjoyed working with Erich and will use him again for any other plumbing work that needs to be done.

After checking Angie's List for plumbers that have received many reviews and also service awards, we called a few to inquire about estimates. I talked to Eric, after learning that not all companies want to come out to give estimates, and they also want to charge for making them. Eric wasn't like that. He was very friendly over the phone and was very willing to come out and estimate the job without charge after I explained to him what we had in mind. On the day of the estimate, Don, who I believe is Eric's partner, called beforehand to say his previous appointment didn't take as long as anticipated and wished to know if it was OK to come a little early. So I can happily say he was very timely. I liked that the first thing he did at the door was to greet me and hand me his card, so I would know it was safe. We discussed the job and Don answered all my questions, then explained what they would likely do to complete the installation. Afterwards, he said he would send me the estimate by email. This was just before a holiday weekend, but by the following Wednesday we had our estimate. His was the lower bid, so we were pleased to offer him the job. We called and set up the appointment for the following week. We pleasantly surprised to be able to have them come out so soon. On the appointed day, Chuck arrived a little earlier than the scheduled time, which also pleased us. Sometimes it's difficult to get people out within a reasonable time, much less to show up early for the job, so this gave us a good impression. Chuck was also very friendly. He introduced himself at the door and explained who he was. He asked if I wished to have him remove his shoes (I did), and I proceeded to show him to the kitchen sink area where he would work. After inspecting the area, he went to get his tools, and he had a large quilted protective blanket, like the ones movers use to cover furniture, to put down on the floor to protect it from his tools. It was large enough to cover the whole area on either side of the cabinet, plus with enough depth for his tools and himself. I was impressed with his attention to details while he was working. He asked questions that helped me understand where the hose bibb would be located, how it would be connected to the water supply, and how high the hose bibb would be be on the outside. He didn't mind that I watched, or asked questions, or talked while he worked. For that, I really appreciated his patience. When he was finished everything was cleaned up, as if he had not been there. And while this is probably considered a "small" job, we appreciate that Eric, Don, and Chuck all made us feel it was an important job to them.
Description of Work: We recently had our 2nd floor deck completely redone, but we realized we should have already had water access included. Since the deck is now deeper than before, it is more difficult to get a hose up to that level from below. We decided to go ahead and have an outside hose bibb installed on the deck. The kitchen sink plumbing faces the deck, so we knew we had easy access to water.

We called for a leaky kitchen faucet and over the phone, Erich tried to help by suggesting a few easy things I could try on my own to fix the problem before he came out. It turns out the leak was both in the faucet and under the sink, and I was able to fix the faucet easily on my own with his guidance, but still needed him for the underneath pipe work. He was very responsive and came out the next day. He fixed the problem quickly, and was very pleasant and professional. Not only did he do the work in a very efficient fashion, he also asked if there was anything else of concern in the house to look at while he was there. I had him look at our old toilets which didn't flush well and he had a few suggestions. I also had him peek at the water heater to determine its age and whether he recommends repair vs replacement. He didn't charge for anything but the work in the kitchen he actually did. His advice was very valuable and didn't cost a thing! Overall, it was a very good experience and we will definitely call him back for any other plumbing work we have!
Description of Work: Fixed leaky pipe under kitchen sink, coached me over the phone fixing my own leaky kitchen faucet, checked toilets and water heater.

First the pipes for the laundry tub and outside faucets were installed. Then the toilet was installed. After the painter repaired the necessary cut in the drywall, the tub was hooked up, the bathroom faucets installed and the undersink filter replaced.

I called as soon as I knew I had a leak. The next day a crew came and fixed the leak in late afternoon. They told me the original drain had been installed incorrectly by the builder, which caused it to break. I am very pleased with their work. I have used this company twice before in 2011, thanks to Angie's List, but did not report. I am very pleased with them and will have them install a new toilet soon.
