They did a quality work and I really like the way they changed the roofing. We found a problem but they came back and fixed it right away.

Run away from Mountain Goat Roofing! This is NOT an honest company!
Description of Work: Unreasonable estimate on second project! Aza outright refused to justify his outrageous bid on our second project! Claimed he could not share with me how he priced the job. Only gave me his bottom line price. Are you serious?!?! Portrays himself as always being "Blessed" and tells you to have a, "Bessed Day!" I now believe this is simply a smoke screen to mask his truly shady business practices and falsely lead you into thinking he is honest. DO NOT TRUST THIS MAN to be straight with you! He DOES NOT have your interest in mind.

Response from Mountain Goat Roofing
I am confused as to why after explaining our costs associated with this project over several calls and emails - he refused to look elsewhere. Finally he threatened (in his words) to "blast us on social media", because he didn't like the bid. The estimates are always free. Certainly the online review is his prerogative, however it needs to be at least accurate, please. If I'm "dishonest, shady, or not straight." I would be very anxious to see any evidence that would support that language, at all.

Very pleased with the job and the company. Roof looks great. They are trained to give the Certainteed 5* Warranty and offer a 25 year Workmanship Warranty. We did the SureStart System so have a complete and transferrable warranty for 15 years. They came when they said they would and kept us informed about a one day delay due to noncompletion of a previous job. Aza Cline is a quality tradesman and his folks are too. House is only 1000 square feet so the price is a little steep. Decided to go with them for the better warranty .... he was the most expensive of the quotes that we got but he also offered the very best warranty and he was the one that gave the best explanations of the product choices and factors to consider, so that we could make an informed decision. He came back and picked up nails with magnet when the job was done too. House is in the north end of Seattle and everything costs more here.

No complaints with the new roof and the crew were great. Only complaint is the owner is too busy to follow up on his promises or respond to questions. So, this is a good outfit if you don't need any handholding.

SUPER. They did everything they said they'd do, and showed up on time. They cleaned up thoroughly and made sure there were no nails in the driveway. They were very clean and professional. When I got the bid, Aza took the time and looked at it and walked around with me and explained everything in detail. I got other bids, and one guy never even got out of his truck and asked me how many layers of roof there was. I could tell Aza likes the work he does, and would provide quality. I was not disappointed and was very impressed.

Mountain Goat's price was extremely competitive, but he spent quite a bit of time on the roof and talking to me about the roof, but I had to call back twice to get the bid. He said it would be back in a few days. He basically lost the job by not calling back in a timely manner.

The owner was on-site to help do the work. I was highly impressed with that and they did an excellent job. I was very impressed on how well they did what they did. My interaction with them was good. The roof is working just fine. I would use them again in the future if I needed roof work, but I hope I would not need it again.

We were referred to Mountain Goat by one of the best respected building inspection company owners. We proceeded to contact them and obtained a bid for premium asphalt shingles for our 4000 square foot home and detached 3 car garage. The entire process was professional and pleasant. They communicated well, were timely and kept us posted, and did a great job. This re-roof was done in 2008. Last year we had a small leak after a massive deluge of rain one day. It appeared to be from around the edge of a flashing. I contacted them and they were out the next day and repaired it. Recently we remodeled our kitchen and needed to remove an old exhaust fan motor in a housing on our roof and revert to a more standard vent. I contacted Mountain Goat to see if they would be willing to do this for us rather than have the general contractor on our kitchen remodel attempt it. Mountain Goat was great - they sent out someone to remove the old exhaust housing, place a new vent, and reshingle/reflash the area involved. I highly recommend this company as they have more than exceeded our expectations over the past 6 years.
Description of Work: Mountain Goat Roofing replaced our roof in 2008. I am writing this review now because we recently had occasions to work with them again and back in 2008 we were not members of Angie's List.

I got many bids for my leaky roof and Mountain Goat was right in the middle price wise. Aza (owner) came out right on schedule and did a temp fix for my leaks. Then we scheduled the replacement for Feb as he had a 6 month waiting list. I continued to get bids while waiting for Aza, but no one could match the price for what he was doing and upgraded material (40 year). Feb 14 came and his crew was right on time, did the whole job in 2 half days and 1 full day. There was a crew of 6-7 young men who worked very hard and cleaned up every day. Bottom line, my roof looks awesome, now all the neighbors want their roofs replaced. Our house is 2500 square feet, 2 story, 15 years old, had builder grade roof that wore out from pressure washing too many times. Such a pleasure to have a contractor who keeps all promises, 2 big thumbs up!

Manager, Aza, was friendly. His presentation was professional. However, he assured us he always worked with his crew. He appeared on one day only. Our garage attic is full of debris from the old shake removal. Our new skylight nearly blew off in the first windstorm of the season.
Description of Work: .Recently, The owner of Mountain Goat Roofing contacted me regarding my review of his work done last October. He was very focused on making things right. The skylight was repaired and the attic was cleared of old shake debris. We were impressed on his follow through. We have elected to change the companies overall grade. I would change the grade to a "A". Would we hire him again? Yes!

I was very satisfied with Mountain Goat Roofing from start to finish of the process. Aza Cline spent considerable time in our initial meeting after inspecting the roof and describing in detail the work to be done. He saw the evidence of leaks that I had noticed and put me at ease that there was little risk in my decision to delay the work for several months. He was flexible on scheduling and his bid was under the other local roofing contractors, all of whom were highly recommended. I was pleased that Mountain Goat Roofing was a smaller company and that Aza was directly involved in the work with his single crew. He estimated that the entire job would be completed in 2 days, and this was accomplished despite high wind and rain during the first morning. Considering the challenge of the wind, the crew did a great job on clean up of the old roofing materials. Aza made one adjustment from the initial proposal to provide better ventilation, but kept the cost at the original estimate. There were no surprises and I was relieved by his report on the good overall condition of the structure. There had been an ongoing problem previously with the old roof of water seeping onto the faccia board leaving streaks and stains. This problem has been corrected with the new roof.

First, Aza was the ONLY person (of the 4 quotes we got) who actually got ON the roof to inspect it. I felt his quote was fair and competitive right from the start. He gave an extensive list of addresses we could visit that had the same roofing material and colors that we were considering so we could see what the end result might look like. The crew was very professional and they were always hard at work. They were friendly and courteous too. They had our old shingles removed within just a couple of hours and were able to complete the job from start to finish in just 2 days (my roof is about 24 squares). They were very thorough with their clean-up, including cleaning the gutters. During the job, the owner had a couple of suggestions on other work that could be done but he was very clear that it was just nice-to-have and there was no pressure at all to sell such additional work. I can tell Aza's done this for a number of years--he had the proper documentation to do the work properly and legally and the roof looks and works great.
Description of Work: The price indicated above INCLUDES sales tax. They installed new flashings (including those for 4 skylights), ridge vents, inspection of the existing underlay (we were ok) and installed new shingles, full clean up.

Aza came into our house with examples of materials that would be used and explained the value of each and the meet or exceed quality of existing codes and standards in the roofing business. To be honest, there's a lot of technology that has gone into roofing that we weren't aware of. We were not overly shocked by his estimate, we had other bids and his was in the middle. Aza and his crew arrived at the scheduled time and went to work laying tarps over the gardens and deck. Then the removal of existing shingles and sub roofing material began. At end of their day, they had stripped the roofing, inspected and replaced plywood, and had secured the sub roofing. When they removed the tarps, there was not left much behind on the ground. Next day back as scheduled, and at end of their day, our house had a whole new look. We had a dark red roof and our choice for new roofing was the Energy Star - close to white. It was a sunny day and the roof was pretty bright. Everyone working seemed to have their job and knew how to get it done without leaving a trail of refuse or blood. Last roof replacement I witnessed left a little of both. Two day transformation. Mountain Goat provided the work crew and materials to do a great looking job, and for a job well done.

They did the job in one day. I was pretty surprised when they left at 3 and I asked when they were coming back and said they were done. They did well with the cleanup, no damage to anything. Other than a couple tile chunks I found in the yard after the leaves had turned and fallen, there was no evidence they'd been there. Had a water leak during some very heavy rain and the owner came and checked it out personally. At night, still in heavy rain. He determined that it was the chimney cap. Turns out I had dented it in by setting a can of paint on it after the roof was done. Oops, my bad. On Asa's advice I pushed it out, re-attached it, and hit the seams with a $12 can of goo from Fred Meyer. It's been fine since.

Interviewed and received bids from several other roofing companies. Mountain Goat was recommended by two friends, one of them being a very demanding architect. Aza was very communicative and personable. Mountain Goat quote was very competitive. Aza has one team that does the work and he is 'hands on' himself - always on site! The crew cleaned up every evening and the job was completed in 3 days. Aza adhered to the quote even though the amount of work (complexity of venting and work around the chimney) ended up being more than originally planned. Excellent experience ... and my neighbor is having Mountain Goat replace his roof also.
Description of Work: New roof - replaced old cedar shake with new composite. Addressed issue around chimney - has been leaking for years and other contractors were not able to address the problem. Aza walked me through a plan to stop the leakage. So far (has rained hard the last two days), no sign of moisture, yay!

Estimate conducted by the company owner, Aza Cline, who could not have been more thorough in his examination of the roof and his subsequent explanation to me of the issues involved in replacing my roof. I ultimately selected North Creek for the job because the bids were effectively equal but they could get there sooner due to having multiple crews. In the end, I regretted that decision, which is detailed in my review elsewhere. For the record, I also received bids from A Better Roofing, Sound Roofing Systems, Mike's Roofing, Element Smart Roofing, and North Creek Roofing; you can look at my reviews of those companies for further comment.

We contracted with Mountain Goat several years ago. Overall, the experience was mixed. They did decent work at the time, but they never really solved the issue that I had them out to fix....a leak in one of the bedrooms. After a couple years, I once again noticed water damage in one of the bedrooms. Also, we recently had our house painted and the painters noticed that Mountain Goat didn't do a very good job with the flashing. When they did the work, they were late and said that other jobs were holding them up.

After considerable experience working with Asa Cline, I would say that his company does a good job of roofing as long as there are no problems. In 2002 they were friendly, courteous and efficient. However, Mr. Cline is not straight forward in conversations either then or now. He talks in confusing circles and tends to not address direct questions. It was only when confronted with irrefutable evidence that he had installed an incorrect roof application on our house and looking at the interior damage to our ceiling that he agreed to replace it. He refused to engage in any discussion of addressing the interior damage "until the roof is replaced". Once the roof was replaced he refused to address in interior damage. Fortunately, our home owners insurance will probably be able to address most of the work as far as we know. Our insurance company has notified Mr. Cline that they intend to sue him for full reimbursement for the repair work. Repairs will cost more than $10,000 depending on the extent of damage. As a result, I would warn any Angie's List customers against using Mountain Goat Roofing. Mr. Cline is a very smooth character. His picture was featured on the cover of Seattle Magazine in their recent review of housing contractors. He is slippery and evasive when you engage him in conversation. While I assume his company generally does good work, he will not be responsive if you have any problems.
Description of Work: New 40 year roof installed in 2002 with 10 year guarantee. Signs of leaking were seen in eaves for several years until eventually interior leaks started in 2007. Mountain Goat was not responsive. In January 2008 a separate roofing company examined the roof and said that the roof application was inappropriate for our house and incorrectly applied and therefore failing. Mountain Goat replaced the roof in August 2008 at no cost to us after considerable discussion, negotiation and delay. Approximately $10,000 worth of damage has been done to the interior of our home as a result of years of leaking. Mountain Goat has refused to address any and all damage to our house as a result of the failed roof.

Response from Mountain Goat Roofing
I AM SURPRISED BUT SADDENED BY THE REPORT GIVEN BY THE MEMBER. I TOO AM A HOMEOWNER THAT EXPECTS GOOD SERVICE WHEN I HAVE HIRED A COMPANY TO DO SOME WORK ON MY HOME. BUT WHEN THERE IS A MISTAKE MADE I WANT FIRST FOR THE DAMAGE TO STOP, SECOND TO KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT, THEN THIRD A PERMANENT FIX FOR ALL THE DAMAGE, FOURTHLY (AND THIS IS THE HARDEST SINCE I LIVE IN MY HOME) TO BE HONEST AND OBJECTIVE ABOUT THE REMEDY. HOW IT’S DONE AND WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT. IN MY EXPERIENCE WITH HIM, I FOUND HIM TO BE CALM AND REASONABLE. THAT IS WHY HIS REPORT IS SO PERPLEXING AND EVEN CONFUSING. IT DOES NOT RECONCILE AT ALL WITH OUR CONSERVATIONS ABOUT THIS LEAK ABOVE HIS KITCHEN WINDOW AND DOOR. HE WILL RECALL I WAS THE ONLY CONTRACTOR THAT PHYSICALLY MEASURED THE PITCH TO DETERMINE IT WAS ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH PER FOOT TOO SHALLOW FOR THE USE OF COMPOSITION, EVEN WITH GRACE ICE AND WATER SHIELD UNDER IT AND THAT THE VERY NEXT WORDS OUT OF MY MOUTH WERE “WE WILL CHANGE THAT HALF OF YOUR HOUSE TO A ROOF COVERING SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR A LOW SLOPE ROOF FOR ABSOLUTELY FREE.” HE THEN BROUGHT UP THE INTERIOR DAMAGE. AS HE CLAIMED IN THE “MEMBER COMMENTS” AREA, AND ALSO AT THE TIME OF THE VISIT – QUOTE “THE ROOF LEAKED FROM ALMOST THE BEGINNING, CAUSING $10,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR OF THE HOME.” I AM READY TO AND HAVE HONORED MY WARRANTY BUT I GUESS MY QUESTION TO HIM THEN IS WHY DID YOU WAIT FIVE YEARS AND 10,000 DOLLARS LATER TO GIVE US A CALL ABOUT THE LEAK? HE DESCRIBES ME AS A “SMOOTH CHARACTER, NOT STRAIGHT FORWARD, DOESN’T ANSWER DIRECT QUESTIONS, SLIPPERY, EVASIVE, A CHARACTER” WHILE QUITE DESCRIPTIVE ADJECTIVES THEY ALL STEM FROM HIS FRUSTRATION AT MY APPREHENSION TO PAY FOR HIS NEGLECT. NEGLECT TO CALL US ABOUT FIVE YEARS EARLIER BEFORE ANY INTERIOR DAMAGE HAD OCCURRED AT ALL. I AM HUMAN AND I WILL MAKE A MISTAKE FROM TIME TO TIME. I LIKE TO BELIEVE I MAKE LESS MISTAKES NOW THAN WHEN I WAS YOUNG CULTIVATING THE REPUTATION WE NOW ENJOY WAS A RESULT OF OWNING MY ERRORS ALONG THE WAY. I BELIEVE MOST PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THIS TO BE FUNDAMENTAL TO ANY GOOD BUSINESS. TO COVER ANOTHER’S ERROR HELPS THEM ONLY TO REPEAT THE MATTER. WHILE HIS FRUSTRATION OVER THIS SITUATION IS QUITE REAL, AND TO A DEGREE I DO EMPATHIZE WITH HIS PLIGHT, TO EXPECT SOMEONE ELSE TO PAY FOR THE CONSEQUENCES OF HIS PROCRASTINATION IS NOT HELPING HIM AT ALL.
