Description of Work: I could not be happier with Ronnie and his crew at Country Carpenter. I went for bid with several different companies and Country Carpenter was not the lowest bid but I hired Ronnie due to his responsiveness and professionalism. He always responded to my email inquires in a very timely manner and never hesitated to swing by if needed. Ronnie listened to what I wanted and provided suggestions and design ideas for an awesome backyard deck! He was patient as my wife and I made changes during the process. Country Carpenter was booked out several months but the job was started exactly when he said it would! I was very pleased with that. The crew was professional, skilled, and friendly. The job site was kept tidy and the work progressed at a nice pace. I can't express enough what a great job they did! They took the extra time to make complicated cuts to match the curve around my hot tub rather than just squaring it. We also had a custom fire-pit built with a beautiful round granite top, however, the first time we used it, the granite cracked completely through. We really didn't worry about it because we knew Ronnie would take care of it and sure enough he did. Ronnie had a new granite top cut for us with a larger diameter and installed it. Worked perfectly! We've been using the fire-pit and deck for a year now and couldn't be happier! Country Carpenter did an amazing job for us! I would recommend them without hesitation!

Description of Work: Total rebuild of 560 sq ft deck using Trex decking. There was a 2 month delay getting started but they finished it by the end of October as promised. The support structure is massive with two 2x6 where deck planks end.

Description of Work: We needed repairs of our old patio- some dry rot and issues with roof support. We had multiple companies coming to provide estimate and no one actually did after they fail to persuade us to build a new patio. |Ronnie came, and gave us very reasonable estimate in timely fashion. There was more damage then we expected and Ronnie addressed all the issues, and not only that he was very receptive to our comments but also patient to explain what is possible and advised with decision that needed to be done. Now we have a save and nice patio - thank you Ronnie. I highly recommend this company :)

Ronnie provided great service and provided exactly what we wanted. Ronnie is great to do business with because he listens to what we want. They were very punctual and communication was exceptional. I would not hesitate to hire him again.
Description of Work: Country Carpenter was great. They were very responsive to my needs for resurfacing our deck. They were attentive to what I wanted and provided excellent service to achieve that end. Great workmanship that has stood a (short) test of time with flying colors. Ronnie was very reliable and they arrived on our job when they said they would. They didn't overcharge for the extras we had them do. In fact, I thought they were more than reasonable with those. I am very satisfied with the work they did and would not hesitate to call them again for our other carpentry needs.

Ronnie and his crew started on Monday while my wife and I were both at work. The progressed quickly and by Wednesday the hot tub was positioned on the new poured slab. Thursday the electrical was in and the deck was taking form. Friday at 5pm the whole project was completed. New stairs from the original deck, skirting around the original deck and a new deck with Trex decking and privacy screening along with a great trellis all in cedar and professionally sealed with top notch products. Ronnie and his crew were professional, courteous and very clean the job site was always spotless when we came home and the quality of work is outstanding. I would highly recommend Ronnie and The Country Carpenter and I plan to use him again for future projects.
Description of Work: We wanted to build a second deck to put out hot tub on and open up the original deck attached to the house for seating as the hot tub took up nearly half the deck area. We chose The Country Carpenter as he specializes in out living spaces, has a great website and some great reviews on Angie's List. Ronnie came out and took a look at our project and the space we had available. He quickly recommended we pour a slab for the hot Tub and build a deck around it. He also recommended some privacy screening from the back alley and the neighbors. He also took some of my ideas and incorporated them as well which included a set second set of stairs from the main deck down tot he yard and screening around the underside of the original deck. He provided me with a quote a day later and we decided to move forward with the project.

Ronnie helped plan, select materials, design, build, clean and haul the debris. Even when there was a change order, Ronnie never complained and came to the rescue. He's a good man.
Description of Work: Ronnie is probably one of the best contractors we've hired. His attention to quality craftsmanship, selection of appropriate materials, knowledge, attentiveness to our concerns, personable and a very good listener. Really helped us create exactly what we were looking for. I would hire Ronnie again without a doubt. He was a pleasure to be around - great attitude and a good sense of humor. Thanks for a great job, Ronnie! D & I

The project went well from start to finish. If we ever had any concerns, Ronnie was more than willing to work with us on whatever the issue might be. We were always well informed on how the project was progressing. We couldn't be happier with the outcome of all the new outside additions to our home.
Description of Work: This is the third time we've had Ronnie and his company, Country Carpenter do work for us. This time, Ronnie replaced an existing deck with the Trex product. In addition to replacing the decking, Ronnie added railing and a firepit. He also installed an arbor and lamp post in our garden areas and a wooden trellis over our garage. Ronnie took our ideas on all the projects and came up with great ideas that resulted in perfect finished projects.

The essence of my experience: The work done on the deck is excellent. The detail and the construction are first rate and I've gotten compliments from relatives and neighbors about it. In the end, it was a good decision to go with Ronnie and Cedar Craft. Construction skill, flexibility, and easiness of working with Ronnie and his crew are the strong points of working with Cedar Craft. Communication and punctuality are, perhaps, the weakest points for Cedar Craft. Now, some of the details.... Out of the 8 contractors I contacted via Angie's List, I received responses from 5 and bids from three, with two in the $16-17K range and one at $25K, all for the same size and design of deck as the existing one with the addition of stairs. I had only chosen contractors who had "A" ratings and was surprised when I didn't hear back from all of them. I guess the recession hasn't hit some as hard as others and they were willing to turn down work... The issues (small in comparison to the satisfaction with the final product) I have regarding communication and punctuality might really annoy others, so I'll disclose them, though hopefully they will not come up when you work with Cedar Craft. Ronnie, the principal, was 30 minutes late for the initial bid meeting, due to traffic. He was also over 45 minutes late for the meeting to sign the contract for the deck rebuild, apparently tied up setting one of his crews up for the day. The tardiness was not so much of the issue as was the fact that he didn't call either time to say he was going to be late (the second time I called and e-mailed him to say I had to reschedule because I needed to get to work). He was able to reschedule for that afternoon and he did apologize, but I must admit I was a little wary at that point. The other issue was one of scheduling. Originally, he was going to start work towards the end of June but he said he could move us up in the schedule to start in mid-June. Great! More time to enjoy the deck in our limited summer! Unfortunately, didn't quite work out that way. He'd given us an estimate of 3 days for demolition and 1 week for construction. Unfortunately, he also mentioned that he was going on vacation for a week after the first 3 days, so nobody would be coming out to work during that time. We thought that they would be done with the demolition in those first three days and we'd have a back yard free of debris while they were gone. This was not the case and we had a large blue tarp draped over the back of the house for almost 2 weeks by the time it was taken down. Since this was "Juneuary" this year, the house was additionally dark and gloomy and our dog couldn't use the back yard for his trips outside, due to construction materials, debris, and nails that were scattered around the demolition. Eventually the debris was carted away over the remainder of the job, pickup truck-loads at a time, but with the rain after the first weekend and the additional gloom in the house, we did wonder if we'd made the right choice. His workmen showed up early each day when they came to work and worked until about 4 each day, though the last 2 days were probably 10 or 12 hr shifts to get the deck completed. Often times, though, there was only one person working at a time, sometimes there were 2. It became obvious that the deck wasn't going up in a week, and this, while obvious at the time, still wasn't communicated to us. So, after 3 weeks, the deck still wasn't finished and it wasn't until the last 3 days that it really took shape. We did wonder sometimes what actually was going on while they were working, since progress didn't seem to be happening. In the end, the final product was definitely worth it and their flexibility with some of our changes was first rate. We wanted a slide for our daughter added to one of the staircase landings and that was taken in stride and incorporated into the end product without a hitch. Ronnie's recommendations of materials and color was also well thought; it was obvious he'd been doing this for a while! The deck, while a simple design, is visually pleasing as well as highly functional. My guess is that Cedar Craft could easily handle more challenging designs as well. Hopefully, the scheduling and timing issues we experienced were aberrations and not the norm. I have no worries about any of the workmanship and/or materials and know that this deck will have a decent lifespan with minimal annual maintenance. Ronnie did also offer to come back if there were any issues; I don't think this is just lip service -- he genuinely wants to stand behind his work. I wholeheartedly recommend Cedar Craft for anyone who wants to get a deck or other construction done.
Description of Work: Demolished and removed old deck attached to 2nd story. Built new deck with Trex and Cedar in place of old deck, adding stairs to ground level. The underside of the deck was waterproofed as well with an interlocking vinyl and gutter system.

Response from Country Carpenter
The company name is Country Carpenter and not Cedar Craft. I thank the member for his right up. I may have been late for a meeting, but I don't know how that went without a courtesy call. Sometimes things just happen that are out of control with timelines as anyone would know in the Seattle metro area. I do take my work to heart and this write up will definatly make us better as a company and a patron. The little details count. Ronnie Cearley Country Carpenter

They were very true to budget and the estimated time frame of completion, they were right on schedule. They kept the work area clean each day. They were very friendly and courteous and just did a beautiful job. We're just super happy with their work and would absolutely use them again!
