We had a nice visit by the carpet sales rep and had a requested visit by the installer who we were very impressed with. About a week before the install, we were told the original installer we were to have had install the carpet had quit his business and moved to Arizona. The installers who replaced him were two Russian gentlemen who worked for Lowes. We had a few questions for them, but only one of the installers spoke English, and seemed very annoyed by our questions, which were pretty basic and the same ones we'd asked the original installer. They were sweeping the dust and debris left over from the old carpet and had asked us to leave the furnace on to give the new carpet a chance to warm up. This was creating a dust storm in out house. I ask the installer if they would please use a shop vacuum. His response was "sure...have you got one?" Apparently they didn't. We felt they were rushing the job to get to another house they had to do later that day. We walked the job with them and signed off their paper work to get them out of the house. After we took a good look at the work they had done, we were less than impressed. There are gaps on the edges of the carpet on the stairwell. We had already put our house back together after moving all of the furnishings off of our second floor, we found the doorway seems are now separating. Costco is going to replace the stairwell carpet which is an easy fix. However, to repair the doorways, we will again need to pack up numerous bookcases full of books and quite a few pieces of furniture will again need to be moved to our first floor. A huge chore and a major inconvenience for us as neither my wife or I are spring chickens these days. We appreciate Costco's customer service attitude, and we continue to shop at Costco which we really enjoy, however, I doubt I would ever use them again for carpeting. The outcome of this little adventure of ours is still up in the air.
Description of Work: We contracted with Costco to replace the carpet on our upper floor and a stairwell.

It went great.
Description of Work: I got an in-home estimate, signed a contract, got a hold on the contract (so I could cancel it at will), finally decided on the color and agreed to the contract, and the carpet was installed. Mark Novy came out for the in-home estimate. He is very experienced and knowledgable. He measured the rooms, then gave me advice and asked me to make several decisions. I had to decide on the type of carpet, where the seams would go, stair details, and color. He told me there would be a big decreace in price if we put the seams so that 15 foot rolls could be used instead of 12 foot. However, 15 foot wide rolls would limit my choices of type of carpet and color. I signed the contract (without getting other bids as I had planed). After thinking about it for a day, I changed my mind about the type and color of the carpet (I wasn't given a sample to keep). So I called Costco and asked to cancel the contract (Washington has a 3 day opt-out law). They were very nice about it. Mark Novy came back out and went over the decisions and color samples again. Well, I ended up with the same selections. About 2 weeks later they called to ask when to install it. A very big man came out to install it, he was right on time. I had my doubts about 1 guy alone doing the job, but he was about 6'6'' and worked at a fast pace. He did an extraordinary job in about 7 hours. I worked construction all my life and I have never seen a neater job. He didn't mar the walls and he cleaned the floors when he was done. I'ts been 6 months now and I'm still happy with it.

I used them because of their reputation. Their price was competitive. I did have a problem with them and they were able to solve it very professionally. They didn't inform me that by default the stairs carpet would be waterfall style; one that I didn't want. During the consultation they didn't tell me how it was going to be done. They came out and reinstalled the stairway carpeting. I had to pay for the stuff. They fixed that. Their price was $200 cheaper than others. I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: I used Costco Carpet Sales about eight months ago. They changed our second floor carpet.

Contacted Costco and they were very prompt in replying. Made an appointment for a salesperson to come to the house. She could have come out within a few days but we had other obligations that required us to delay the initial meeting. Told the salesperson what the room was used for, how much traffic it received, how many people lived in the house and what type of carpet we were interested in. She appreciated those specifics and was able to bring a selection of carpets that matched our requirements. She arrived promptly on the day of the appointment with a good selection of carpets to choose from. While we looked at carpets she measured the room and entered the dimensions into her laptop. The laptop displayed a very accurate layout of the room which included a curved area where a brick hearth was located that held a wood stove. After we selected a carpet she showed us how the carpet could be installed on the laptop. Either way it was installed two 12 ft. rolls would not completely cover the entire floor. Since seams would be involved she made suggestions but let us decide. Costco requires full payment up front which I was surprised at. If it weren't for Costco's reputation that could have been a problem. The company Costco subcontracts this out to is a legitimate company that has a stable work force which means they don't hire installers off of the street.. The two installers arrived on the scheduled date early. I showed them the room and they went right to work. The only problem we had was due to the floor having about a two inch gradual slope from one area of the room to the other. The installer told me he would have to install an extra tack strip so the carpet wouldn't stretch over the slope with air underneath it which would have caused problems immediately. They had to do several seams which appeared to be very well done from what I can tell. They were here from 9:00 till 2:00. Both very polite men, they cleaned up very well afterwards.
Description of Work: Removed old carpet and pad as well as moved three pieces of furniture to facilitate the install. Cleaned entire floor prior to starting installation of approximately 650 square ft. of carpet on a concrete floor.
