I have hired Burrows Draperies for 25 years in three houses. They are capable of very high end window treatment construction and installation, where they really excel, and simple ones you can get anyone to do. In addition to wood slat blinds and motorized louvred fabric blinds, I have had them make draperies out of cotton blends, fine silks, heavy velvets, ultra suede, and even a gorgeous faux fur. They all turned out absolutely perfect and beautiful. The supervision of their workroom is precise and the installation is high quality, sometimes creative when the existing window construction requires it. They know what they’re doing. When there are manufacturer or vendor problems they do the troubleshooting and are prompt with resolution. I won’t use anyone else and always recommended them to friends.

ceiling rods were installed wrong, i had to call and have him come back two or three times to fix and one time he was very angry at me, the rod is still wrong and the drapes do not slide smoothly, there is a gap so the drapes get stuck at this gap everytime and i don't want him to come back but the job was and still is a mess. The sun blinds were measured wrong and do not cover the whole window so there is always sunlight piercing through. It's a mess. i want the job fixed but i don't want to call him.... never never never use this company....

He was rude and condescending, implying we were too low class to bother getting a bid from his company. There was only one fabric he could think of that would be appropriate when there is a cat in the house and they don't sell it--they only deal in high-end products. I will never deal with this compay again and higly recommend against them, it was a most unpleasant experience.
Description of Work: We lined up three companies to give us a bid on new curtains for three rooms in our house. The person who came from NW refused to give us a bid at all once he found out we have a cat.

The traverse rod on our very long wall of windows failed. It was bowed and came unstrung. Thinking we'd have to buy a new one, we started calling around for repairs or at least advice. Not even a callback from other (highly rated) Angie's List companies. At Burrows Draperies, my call was answered by a person (not voice mail) who was knowledgeable and asked questions about the job, then told me when to expect a call back. The call came as expected, and purely by luck, John was available AND in our neighborhood. So within 10 minutes, he was at our door. John Wood behaved as I wish every contractor would. He was careful, knowledgeable and honest. He talked us out of buying a new rod, and proceeded to re-string, re-align, un-bow, and tune up the rod, then rehang the mounds of curtain and make fine adjustments--all in less than an hour. The system works better now than it did even when it was first installed some years ago. This is old-fashioned good business, and I treasure it. John surely can count on me calling him first when I'm ready to order a new window treatment for my OTHER 20-foot wall of windows!
Description of Work: A very small job, but so well done!

One word: awful.
Description of Work: Services were not performed. Here is why: Burrows Draperies plainly refused to take my job. Overall - wasted my time and did not treat me well. I needed window treatments fully re-done for 2 rooms, one hallway with 3 large windows and some curtains altered in couple of rooms. Yes, I admit, some of the windows were pretty large and tall, but dining room and guest bedrooms had regular-sized windows and standard ceiling heights. Mr. Burrows came to give me an estimate yesterday, took a look, plainly refused to take ANY work and was very curt about it. I was asking if he would at least make draperies for couple of rooms - forget about the large tall windows - but he just walked out on me. Unbelievable. We have an older house and I am very experienced with doing house projects. He was always rushed on the phone and I could not even describe the scope of the project to him properly. I had to leave work to accommodate HIS schedule (who is the customer here?) and waste half of my day. When I checked their website beforehand, they did show very tall windows with somewhat outdated draperies - well, we could always changes a style, no problem - so I assumed that making curtains even for tall windows was not an issue for this business. Why were their services misrepresented? I don't understand why I was treated in that way by Mr. Burrows and why my job was plainly and rudely refused. I have never experienced anything like this from many contractors I have dealt with.

This is the fourth time in twenty years i have used Burrows. I checked pricing with other vendors this time around and Burrows still had exceptional, and the best, pricing. The quality of their products, customer service and level of professional has always been and continues to be excellent. John was punctual, thorough and left no clean up for me.
Description of Work: .i replaced a damaged two way blind for a large front window and installed three new two way blinds in two other rooms. The color of the new blinds fits right in with the existing blinds. you wouldn't notice they were new unless you were told.

We have used Burrows several times over the past 2-3 years. They are the only company I would use for draperies: they are local and do their own work. John Burrows gave us a good range of fabric choices from which we found just what we wanted. The cornice boxes are beautifully executed, and were a perfect fit (and his suggestions for height to balance length were "spot on"). Burrow's policy is to allow 2.5 times the width of the wall for fabric, so the drapes are beautifully full. The work was completed on the day they said (some luck for availability of the fabric involved), and installation went smoothly and quickly. The mini-blind purchase was successful These, too, went as planned - arrived at the scheduled time, fitting properly. I will repeat: Burrows is the only company I would use for draperies, or any window treatment.
Description of Work: Within the past year we bought custom made, pinch pleat draperies for our living room and dining room; in each room they extend the entire length of a wall. We also had cornice boxes made to cover the tops of the drapes. This spring we bought mini-blinds for several windows. The dates of service are an estimate. We contracted for the drapes a little less than a year ago, and have bought the blinds through this winter and spring. The dollar total is for drapes and blinds.

They were professional, courteous and very timely. My drapes required some extra labor to match previously used to unused fabric, and they came up with the idea for the fabric covered valance, which created a great look. The workmanship on everything was impeccable, and they were very prompt in completion. I highly recommend them!
Description of Work: They utilized fabric from my existing curtains and additional purchased yardage to make new lined draperies, created a custom fabric covered box valance, and installed the drapery hardware, drapes and valance.

referred by Joslin intriors as a family business that worked with old curtain fabric. many companies won't because they want to sell their fabric to you as well. Or they claim, for hygenic reasons, that the workers don't want to handle old curtains. Any way I had designer chintz fabric that had been custom constructed into drapes and bell style valences with custom fringe for my previous home window treatment. But they did not fit the new home windows. This same fabric was on a chaise lounge and matched my bedding, rug, and other other articles in my bedroom suite. It was in good shape and clean and I saw no reason to reinvent the wheel here so I was able to get this company to do the job very reasonably. They were quick, professional, friendly. Warning; you must be very specific about your design plans and measurements
Description of Work: made a new curtain valence from an old curtain valence
