Ballard Natural Gas Services was very good. The furnace has been running well for about a year now and continues to do so. They have offered me a complimentary service which I still need to call them about. I would say they are very easy to deal with and they did a great job installing the new furnace.
Description of Work: Ballard Natural Gas Services removed my old furnace and installed a new one.

Ballard Natural Gas was excellent to work with. They were very responsive and flexible with schedules. Mathew was our technician, who did an excellent job on the repair work, leaving no sign that anyone was even there. We were so pleased with their service, we signed up for their annual maintenance plan on the spot, in addition to purchasing a case of furnace filters.
Description of Work: Our furnace was making some aweful noises which seemed to be coming from the inducer motor. We had just purchased the house about 8 months previous and I only called Ballard Natural Gas since they were listed as performing a previous service on our furnace prior to us purchasing the house. It turned out the inducer motor and wheel assembly needed replacement. In addition, they found that the heat exchangers were cracked and needed immediate replacement. Lukily, Ballard Natural Gas was the original installer of the furnace and had all of the records, which indicated this had a 10 year extended warranty. Therefore, all parts and labor were covered. We only had to pay the intial service and inspection fee of $149. The parts and labor for the inducer motor and heat exchangers was covered by warranty.

I contacted them for a bid on a water heater. They were VERY prompt to respond and professional. I think they were one of the first to call back. However, their bid for the water heater was the highest I have received thus far and I am only getting bids from A-rated Angies List companies. Needless to say I do not feel I will be choosing them as their costs abd fees are HIGHER than everyone else

I had a great overall experience with Ballard Natural Gas. I had them out to give me a quote on replacing and moving the location of my existing furnace. The furnace didn't have to be replaced, but it was 20 years old and would have probably died at an inconvenient time. The sales rep came out and talked through their various models and different features. I ultimately settled on the 95% Trane with the two-stage fan. They seemed really interested in getting my business, but not in a high pressure sales kind of way. The sales rep ended up throwing in some annual maintenance and a duct cleaning and with their already competitive price I was sold. We scheduled the walk-through and I talked the installer through where I wanted the new furnace installed and where I wanted the new duct work run. A few days later, they came out in the morning to do the install while I was at work. Only small disappointment was that their install team noticed some questionable gas piping installation that they said they would fix, but didn't. This wasn't in the agreed upon install, but it would have been nice. The install was done really well, everything was clean, the duct work was sealed properly, electrical was nicely run, and they even ran a new gas flex line and installed my earthquake straps on my hot water heater. The furnace is working great and I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Replace existing 20 year old furnace with new 95%, high-efficiency Trane furnace.

The technician diagnosed that the gas valve (a $600+ part) was bad. He also reported that the Thermocouple should be replaced, because it wouldn't cost much more to replace it at the same time, they are a common failure item and I'd save the cost of a second service call plus the labor to replace the thermocouple. That seemed like an excessive amount for what I expected was a $100 part, so I went to the tenants home and troubleshot the furnace myself. It turned out that ONLY the thermocouple was bad, the furnace has been running ever since I replaced that one inexpensive part. I told the Service Manager at BNG what happened, she said she would talk to the Tech and get his side of the story. She didn't call back, but they DID end up waiving the original $100 service call charge. I would hesitate to call them for service again for fear of another misdiagnosis and/or overcharge.
Description of Work: Had BNG do a service call on a tenant's wall furnace when he could not light the pilot at the start of the heating season.

Overall it was terrible; I would never recommend them again. They failed the city gas inspection three times; they did not wait for the inspector; I had to. They installed leaky pipes; they failed three times before they passed. It was terrible. I will not use them again in the future.

The installation went smoothly, with only a few typical glitches--why do installers never close doors behind them unless emphatically asked to?--and a few things were left unattended to on their departure, e.g., appliance wires left un-re-connected, the new high-tech thermostat left unprogrammed. On the whole I was very satisfied with the process. But I would also suggest that BNG needs to polish its service provision, including its internal communication system: The caller rarely reaches the same person twice, and the persons reached do not always, or even often, pass requests and information on to each other accurately (or at all).
Description of Work: My gas furnace ceased to function reliably in late October. I placed a service request with BNG. The could not provide a repairman for five chilly days. When the man did arrive, it was somewhat after the end of the 2-5pm window promised by the company. It did not take him long to determine that my furnace was on its very last legs. Not surprising since it was 25 years old (which I was not aware of). In fact he didn't want to work on it at all if he were to be held responsible for the outcome. I requested an appointment with a salesman. He made a very clear presentation of the alternatives and we quickly settled on the right choice for a new furnace for my circumstances. He was able to schedule an installation with only a few more days' delay.

The tech called first and arrived exactly on time. He expained the the problem carefully. Next, we had an appointment with Matt, who checked out both apartments and made recommendations based on our needs. The Lennox furnaces we chose which were installed just as described. Matt came for a follow-up visit and made sure that the furnaces were working well. We are very happy with the furnaces, and the professional service we received.
Description of Work: two new Lennox furnaces were installed in our duplex, replacing old ones with cracked heat exchangers. Some ducting was realigned, and battery-operated filter monitors were installed.

The technician called when he was about 10 minutes away, and arrived within the window of time that was scheduled. After slipping on some plastic booties, he entered and I showed him to the furnace. He performed the routine servicing on the gas furnace, and explained all the various steps that he was going through. He was very patient and answered all of my questions. He was quick to point out that we are going to need a new furnace soon since any of the components inside our 22-year-old furnace "could fail at any time". He did a carbon monoxide test and it passed within the allowable limit. He encouraged me to buy a new furnace. I do feel that the advice he gave me was not to make a sale, but rather a cautioning that we are at the end of the lifetime of the current furnace.

The duct cleaning crew were first and arrived on time and completed their work in the time scheduled. They were professional and I have no comlaints with their work. The furnace part replacement was done by a lone technician and he also arrived on time and completed his work in the alotted time. He replaced a circuit board that was failing and was still covered by the furnace's original 10 year warranty. The warranty will expire within a few months and if this repair had to be done then I was told it would run somewhere around $1200. Needless to say I was glad to avoid that as there was no out of pocket expense to me. The problem was discovered by another BNG technician during a furnace maintenance visit. I have no complaints about this service either.
Description of Work: This report covers two separate services performed by different crews on the same day. The first service was duct cleaning and the second service was replacing a part in my furnace that was covered under warranty.

Gas fireplace wouldn't stay lit. On the phone they suggested that a routine clean/service would probably fix it. Tech arrived at scheduled time and performed recommended service; problem is indeed fixed. The tech was clean, polite, quick and orderly. The only minor complaint I have is that he unplugged my entertainment system to plug in his vacuum cleaner instead of using the empty socket right next to the fireplace. No harm done, it was just a little annoying.

A appointment for a quote was set up, they came out took a look, made some measurements then after placing all the information in the computer I was given a quote. Later that day I was informed that a small error had occurred during input to the computer and that the cost would be approx. $600 more than what was quoted. The company worked with me and we split the difference, so while I was quoted one price, it actually was more. I was going to go with a different company but they couldn't schedule an appointment for about 3-4 weeks out so after balancing what we needed and when with the cost of waiting we decided to go ahead with Ballard. The company requested a second visit to a**** the work they were going to do and it only took a few minutes. The installer showed up a bit earlier (which was a good thing) and got started immediately. The job took longer than expected only because both of the previous assessments were off a bit but the job got done and I am very pleased with the worked performed. Ballard Gas is a family owned business and while they might be a little pricier, you do get the assurance that the work they do will be done right, and if something unforeseen should arise, that they will work with you to make it right. This was the second time that I have used this company and expect that we will continue to use them in the future. The air in my home is remarkably better since having had this duct work installed and I'm happy that I know it was done right the first time.
Description of Work: We had a "return" air installed. Our furnace was drawing air from under the house, so we had Ballard Gas install new duct work to close the system and properly reuse the air from the interior of the home.

These folks are a really pleasure to work with. I got a three different bids for the work, they were right in the middle and their bid used higher quality equipment. What set them apart from the others is I knew they had the skills to do all the work needed and do a quality job. Due the the nature of my remodel, I needed them to come do the work in phases and they were very responsive. When it was time for the duct work and piping, they were there. When it was time for the final system turn on, they came out the next day.
Description of Work: Remove existing oil heating system, install Heat Pump, Gas Furnace, Run Gas Piping to the Furnace, Kitchen and Fireplaces, and install duct work in half my house that was previously heated by electrical heaters. Oh, and they installed a Navien tankless hot water heater also.

I had called Ballard Natural Gas to perform an annual maintenance on my ancient furnace. Before the service date, my year-old Navien tankless water heater started showing an error message, and the hot water was undependable. I called on a Saturday and they sent Shawn Forney out. He was unable to fix the problem because Navien's diagnostic support staff were unreachable. Still, he took the time to look it over, and he gave me some tips on how to reboot the system to get hot water until the next service. He did not charge me for the visit, even though he was technically supposed to charge for his time. On Monday, Shawn returned and ended up replacing the control board of the Navien, on Navien's recommendation. He performed the scheduled furnace maintenance as well. Shawn worked quickly and efficiently, and at the end of the service, he suggested that we look into getting a new furnace. Now, we've heard this before from Ballard Natural Gas, and I know that it's a reasonable suggestion, considering the furnace is over 40 years old and seriously inefficient. However, Shawn (and the others before him) never pushed the issue. He simply gave me some information to read on his suggested replacement. Three days after the installation of the new control board, the Navien system began failing, with no error code to help us figure out what was wrong. Finally, it stopped running altogether. I called Ballard Natural Gas again, and Shawn was here within a couple of hours. He spent nearly an hour on the phone with Navien, who told him that the new control board must be faulty. They planned to send one overnight, but it was a Friday and that meant we would not get the board installed until Monday. I told him to tell the Navien people that I was a very unhappy customer. Shawn called within a half-hour of leaving my house to tell me that he had decided to call his office and ask them to unpack and take apart a new Navien system so that he could take its control board and replace ours that day. He came back out and did just that as soon as he could get to his office and back. What excellent, caring service! This report is far overdue, because I've been such a happy customer of Ballard Natural Gas for several years now. Their reception and service staff are friendly and professional, and are willing to go the extra mile to be helpful. I feel that they are loyal to and honest with their customers, and they never push an upgrade or a sale. When our furnace does finally die, I will be calling them!

My initial contact was with Vern Ledford. He was very professional and gave me a very detailed quote; he had great ideas how to achieve some of my requirements as he used to be one of their installers/techs. For scheduling we broke the work up into two chunks, two days for tankless water heater and ducting, and one day a week later for running the gas pipe and key valve. Vern followed up with me after the initial meeting and then came over one more time to explain the process, sign paperwork, and take a deposit. When it was time for installation, Jay arrived and was incredibly fast and effective. By the time we got home in the afternoon, the tankless water heater was already up and running and programmed. The next day Jay showed up bright an early again to get the ducting done, which he finished in half a day. Vern showed up on the morning of each day to see how things were progressing and to explain any issues that may have arisen, which made me feel very good about their portion of the remodel work. Both Jay and Vern were willing to answer my questions without reservation as they came up and Vern's follow up has been great. I will definitely use them again in the future and would recommend them without hesitation.
Description of Work: We hired Ballard Natural Gas to do the following: install new tankless water heater system and remove old water heater, move around existing ducting and add cold air return for basement remodel, and run natural gas pipe and install key valve for a new gas fireplace.

We got three total bids to install a new gas furnace and hot water tank; Ballard Natural Gas fell in the middle in terms of cost, but their professionalism set them apart. Matt Cannon was our sales rep and he took extra time to walk us through the process and answer all of our questions. He was extremely thorough in putting together his bid. Because I was uneasy about the gas pipe installation process (and because we have been consistently burned by contractors after years of remodeling), Matt recommended Jason Tolman, their Lead Installer. Jason showed the same professionalism, expertise, and patience, taking the time to point out issues with the house that were not even related to the gas piping. He was prompt, courteous, and at the end of the job, cleaned his workspace until it was spotless. I honestly can't recommend this company highly enough. Thanks to Ballard Natural Gas for the great experience!

Another great experience with BNS - they also replaced our furnace in our old house. Their bid was the most detailed and descriptive, ran the most tests inside the house for heat loss and had competitive pricing. We have some airflow issues inside the house and they recommended ways to improve and equalize the temp with a variable speed fan in the furnace. They completed the install in one day, even though it took the installer 12 hours to complete. Very satisfied and would work with them again.

The entire experience was first-rate and the service provided was outstanding from start to finish. This team really understands what customer service means in practice; they respect the customers time and intelligence, taking great care to be punctual and going to lengths to explain the details of what would happen and how the equipment worked. The bid was very clear regarding the scope of the work to be done and the equipment included (a full print out was delivered on the job site). During the final design walk-through the technician removed some unneeded components and cut the bid by several hundred dollars. The quality was great and they stand behind the work with a solid guarantee. I highly recommend this company.

There were some issues with some of the equipment and duct cleaning, but the response from BNG was very thorough and they addressed any issues during a very complex installation. A few key issues were encountered: 1) During duct cleaning before the install the crew forgot to use a regulator which damaged a few flex duct runs. Result: BNG came out and replaced any of the damaged ducts and refunded the cost of the duct cleaning. 2) A faulty TX valve in the heat pump coil resulted in the heat pump failing under 100% load Result: This was a hard diagnosis that BNG worked with Trane on identifying. One of the owners, Landis, was onsite several times trying to identify the issue. The problem was that the valve would only stick when the heat pump ran at 100%. By the time Landis was able to make it onsite through traffic the outdoor temp had dropped and the heat pump only ran at 50% where the TX valve would function correctly. BNG was prompt and professional in working with us to identify and ultimately fix the issue. I've never seen an HVAC company have such dedication in identifying an issue. 3) There was a communication issue between sales and the technicians where the old furnace was supposed to be left onsite for a donation to a non-profit. Result: The old furnace was already scrapped, which was unfortunate. 4) The steam humidifier was too small to provide enough humidity inside during the heating season Result: BNG replaced the humidifier with a larger unit at no cost. Installation summary: I chose BNG because they provided the most thorough and accurate sizing of the furnace and heat pump in their bid and were able to beat two other Trane dealers with their pricing. When the project kicked off the installers stayed all day and completed the entire installation in one day, which was amazing for such a complex system. In reviewing the installation I expressed some concern about the sealing of the refrigerant line through the crawl space as I was concerned about pests gaining entry. BNG fabricated a cover plate for the crawl space entry that would require a rodent to have a cutting torch, a week worth of time, and a mission statement to get through. While there were some issues with the equipment and some of the work, BNG didn't hesitate to ensure that we were satisfied with the outcome. I'm also not surprised about having some issues with such a complex system and installation. I've referred several co-workers to BNG and everyone that has used them for installations has been very satisfied. We also used BNG recently to purchase and install a new Trane XL950 thermostat to take advantage of the Comfortlink II technology across the system and absolutely love it!

We ended up with a pre-inspection because the job was larger than what they had scheduled for the time slot. So, we rescheduled and I asked for an extra discount at that time and received it. As the work required going all over the house, and we had had a preview, Levi did do a nice job of letting us know what would need to be moved ahead of time and after we moved as much as we could by ourselves, he helped us do the rest - and put the hardest ones back with us, which we appreciated! My husband asked, after the fact unfortunately, whether the air intake for the house had been inspected and as it was not on the usual job checkllist for air duct cleaning, he was greatly disappointed that it was not done. Plus, Levi forgot to turn the whole house heating system back on, after turning it off to clean the air filters to the furnace, and a couple of the settings on the thermostat were different than what I had left them. They do have a checklist for the job, but I think they need a more detailed one, so that the customer, and the company, can know exactly what was and wasn't done at that time and on that place. Otherwise, I would say that they are a reputable company doing reliable and quality workmanship.
Description of Work: We had a total air duct cleaning service. It was expensive as we had more vents than we had thought, but I did ask for a 15% discount which they were kind enough to give us but in general, one should not expect more than 10% discount from them.

The first time I made an appt. the crew was running late and didn't call until a half hour later. Unfortunatley by that time I had to leave my place. I was surprised someone from the office didn't try and reach out to reschedule- I did that a couple weeks later myself. The next time, he was right on time. The service was pretty basic and while my fireplace was initially working this last few weeks, it has gone dead again. He did say I had an electrical issue that needed to address. And to no fault of his--my only option is a $300 remote control fireplace starter. I would consider using Ballard again.

Our 7 year old water heater died on Thursday night and I called Ballard Natural Gas on Friday morning, desperate, since I was painting the interior of my house and needed hot water. They had a tech out by 9:30am on Friday and when we expressed an interest in the tankless water heaters, they had a salesmen out soon after. The salesmen (Vern) went through all the pros and cons of the various systems in a very low key, no pressure, but very informative way. Given that our old water heater set up was unusual and very expensive to replace, we opted for the tankless system. Vern managed to get the installer scheduled for the next day and we had hot water by 3pm on Saturday. Ballard Natural Gas did not charge us weekend rates, and were very responsive and professional. They have a wonderful staff and we will be using them for future service calls. We have had no trouble with the new system other than keeping our teenage son from taking even longer showers, since he has endless hot water now. I would highly recommend Ballard Natural Gas to anyone.
