Description of Work: I called the service provider around noon on a very hot Saturday. My air-conditioner wasn't working, and the house was getting hotter by the minute. I wasn't optimistic about getting a service-person to the house the same day, and on a very hot weekend afternoon. The person who answered the phone at Ballard Natural Gas was incredibly courteous and helpful. She told me the only service-person available was very busy, but could arrive around 6:00-7:00 p.m. that evening. She gave me instructions about how to reach her if I had any additional questions later in the day, which involved using an emergency number and leaving a message with the answering service. I did this, and sure enough, she called me back within less than five minutes to answer my question. She even gave me the three-digit cell phone prefix of the service-person who would be calling me, so I would recognize his number when he called my cell to let me know he was on his way. I did get a call from the service-person, Mathew Ahrens, about 15 minutes before he arrived, and right on time. It was the end of a very hot day, and he had clearly been working hard all day. He was courteous, checked the air-conditioning unit; managed to change the filter in a tiny attic space. He made sure the unit was working optimally, and gave me some instructions about how to keep the unit running smoothly. He was professional, competent, courteous, and efficient. My house wasn't his last stop of the day, and I couldn't have expected better service. I would use Ballard Natural Gas Service again.

Description of Work: Two days earlier my furnace had stopped working. The motor came on, but the gas didn't fire up. I called Ballard Natural Gas on Wednesday morning about 8 am, and they said that a technician would be at my home between 3 and 5 pm. The technician, Levi, actually called and arrived 30 minutes early. Levi quickly diagnosed the problem, showed me and estimate of the cost of repair, and then repaired my furnace in about 30 minutes. Voila! Heat! I was definitely impressed with the service and I would call Ballard Natural Gas again and refer them to my friends.

Description of Work: Our gas furnace stopped producing heat. We called around to several services and they were either too busy, or did not respond to my phone calls promptly. I started calling at 7:00 am. Ballard said they could come between 9 and noon and did so. The service man was professional & explained clearly what the issues were and what my options were. In the heat of the moment, I probably bought a bit more than my old furnace deserved.

Description of Work: When we decided to convert from oil to natural gas, we had a number of contractors give us bids for a new high-efficiency furnace, air cleaner, gas hot water heater, gas logs for our fireplace and piping for a new gas range. Chris Young came to our home and did a very complete bid, taking into account heat loss in each room, etc. His was the most complete bid we received, and BNG beat all three competitors on price as well. Chris was available to answer questions as we made the decisions on all of the equipment. BNG was ready to do the work when we were ready, but we had to wait for PSE to install the gas meter. The meter was installed on a Friday and Ballard started work on Monday. It was a two-day process because we were having so much done. Jay was our installer and he did a great job - and he cleaned up after himself. We had him use the garage to do the staging for the installation, and when he finished the work the garage was cleaner than it was to begin with! After the installation was complete, Chris returned to make sure everything was done properly and to show us how to operate the systems. Ballard Natural Gas was a pleasure to work with.

Description of Work: An old gas furnace was replaced with a new 2 stage Lennox gas furnace. Chris Young, the heating consultant, came out to the house and described what heating options were available. He explained the benefits of one over the other and what could impact energy costs as well as comfort. He then explained exactly what the installation would involve. He was professional, knowledgable and courteous. A few days later, the installer, Jay Chapman, installed the system. He too communicated the process involved and answered all of my questions. He performed the work perfectly. How do I know? Because, after the heating system was installed, Chris Young returned to walk through the installation with me. He explained how the system could best be maintained and showed me how to change out a filter. He had a checklist to make sure the installation was done correctly and explained how to shut the gas and power off. I am so impressed with the quality of workmanship and communication from both of these gentlemen. I highly recommend them!

Description of Work: When I called to inquire about a heat pump/air conditioner. they sent a Rep (Vern) the very next day. After talking we decided on a heat pump. Vern checked sq.footage, heat vents,air intakes, the existing furnace. The next day, Vern returned to go over with me his calculations and suggestions on a specific heat pump and adding one air intake and one heat vent in my house. Five days later, Jay began the installation. The very next day it was fully installed and running. A wonderfully efficient job from start to finish ! Vern and Jay were great to work with, answering fully any questions or concerns. And with our weird Seattle weather, I've used both the heat and cooling functions in the week since the installation. They worked beautifully ! A huge thank you to Ballard Natural Gas Service.

Description of Work: My heat pump would get covered with ice when the outside temp was below 35 F. I called Ballard Natural Gas, and they suggested that I first try changing my filter, which I appreciated because that would be far cheaper than having to have a repair guy come to the house. That didn't solve the problem, so the repair guy came to the house, determined that either the sensing unit or the control board had died. The proposed plan was to order both parts, and then replace one at a time to see which part was broken, which I appreciated, because this would be cheaper than just replacing both parts without thinking. Unfortunately, both parts came in a matched set, under one part number, so we ended up replacing both parts after all. Now the heat pump works just like new.

Description of Work: On May 26th I had Ballard Natural Gas out for an estimate. I was quite satisfied with their presentation and am still exploring my options.

Description of Work: Completely replaced gas furnace. Did the paperwork to apply for 1500.00 government rebate and 250.00 rebate from local utility. Came back a week later to check that everything was performing well. Very nice and explained things well.

Description of Work: They gave me a bid on the installation of a ductless heat pump, they were about $500.00 below the other bids I received, so I chose them to do the work: Taylor, their estimator is wonderful to work with, and very responsive. The only problem I had was their insistence I use only their chosen electrical contractor to do the electrical portion of the installation. The electrician from this particular company insisted I install a new electrical panel, since my house is legally zoned as a duplex, I would have to install 2 new electrical panels, along with updating the meter configuration and placement on the outside of the house. Needless to say, this added a HUGE additional cost to my installation, which I hadn't been prepared for. The last straw came when City Light finally divulged they had connected insufficent wiring from their their poles to my house, in spite of the fact that the house has had 2 outside meters (and 2 separate billing accounts) since the early 1960's. City Light informed me that it was going to cost ME over $900.00 for them to upgrade my incoming wire to the appropriate level for this property. I don't feel I should have to pay for City Light's mistakes, so I cancelled the job. Ballard Gas was sympathetic to my dilemma and offered to put up half of the $922.00 City Light was asking for. I appreciate their offer, but I am contacting an attorney to resolve my dilemma with City Light. I can't speak for their work, but they gave me a good price, and tried to give me good customer service.

Description of Work: The gas logs installed by Ballard Natural Gas two years ago were inoperable because we smelled gas and turned off the supply to the fireplace. I called Ballard Natural Gas. The scheduler was able to have a person come out the next day. This person was very nice and tried hard to get the logs working again, but didn't have the part needed to install a new gas line. He promised to come back the next work day, which he did. He also determined that the parts were under warranty when giving me the cost estimate. This turned out not to be the case, but Ballard Natural Gas stood by their original estimate. The logs were beautiful and the flame was perfect. A few days later, I couldn't turn on the gas log fire, so I called the company back. Even though I called on a Friday, a very nice gentleman came by Saturday morning and showed me how to re-light the pilot light. He also made a couple of adjustments--at no charge. Ballard Natural Gas also installed our new furnace two years ago. The service and furnace are topnotch.

Description of Work: I had them install a new furnace, a Trane, 80% 2-stage. I've had nothing but problems with it and the thermostat. My gas usage has doubled even though I was assured my gas usage would go down significantly. The furnace runs all the time, even when it's reached the programmed temperature, it continues to run for at least another 10 to 15 minutes. Sometimes I only get cool air coming out. The technicians have been here twice, but don't seem able to fix whatever is wrong. Last week I called again, but I'm still waiting for them to return my call. It's been 4 days, not including Sunday, and still no one has responded. Either the furnace or the thermostat or the technicians are faulty!

Description of Work: These people got great review on Angie's List but I have to say they NEVER called me back! I waited on hold for a long time to get help, then a person said if I left a voicemail someone would call me back right away but no one did. Turns out they are getting bad reviews from other people who have used them. Beware. They are never getting my business and I am using North Park Heating instead.
