Huntwood Industries Cabinets

Where to even start with Huntwood. Things started out great and just keep getting worse and worse....we're over 5 months into dealing with them and I don't see any end in sight. Cons: -Cabinets arrived in November and it's now April and I'm STILL dealing with these issues. Cabinets arrived with many many defects out of the box. Edge banding issues, bubbles in the veneer finish, chips in orders, over-sanded corners, dents, and scratches. Terrible quality in repair work: In an effort to save themselves from a full replacement, -Huntwood sent a technician (who people keep saying is the best) to perform repairs. This resulted in discoloration of the corners which drew the eye to the area even more. The technician got adhesive spray on our brand new refrigerator, which we were able to remove, but still. Basically put a band-aid over gaping wounds - not totally the tech's fault. Send them to repair something that truly just needs to be replaced and that's what happens. -Huntwood sent a customer service manager who tried to tell me that what I was seeing was incorrect. Despite several others from Huntwood acknowledging and clearly documenting obvious issues. Was then told many of the cabinet fronts would be replaced and was given a list (finally). Only part of that list was ever replaced and no explanation as to why. -The 1st set of replacements arrived the first time with a completely different stain color, so I had to refuse those. -The 2nd set of replacements arrived the second time looking good, but the installer mis-drilled the holes for the handles (which I supplied before he installed) and had to be replaced. -3rd time they came with "replacements" they arrived with the ORIGINAL doors with all of the damage which was the entire reason for the replacement in the first place. They had obviously used those original panels to perform poor repair work that just looked awful. -Overall - received poor communication throughout the entire process. Almost zero status updates were offered - I had to hunt this down every time. Don't be fooled by Huntwood's showroom or their expensive cabinets. These are no more quality than you would get anywhere else - truly. You will not get consistent looking cabinets and god help you if you end up needing any repair work. I truly regret choosing them for our kitchen, as this whole process with them has been a nightmare. The remainder of our cabinets in the house we got from a local cabinet maker who delivered amazing vanities as well as other custom cabinets. None of these had one issue and are very high quality and I'm very much regretting not just going with them instead. My husband and I put a lot of time, effort, and money into our remodel and the rest of the house looks awesome. I'm very sad that I have a beautiful new home with a subpar kitchen.

Avoid at all costs! Cabinets arrived damaged, poor finishes, incorrect sizes, and some were even constructed upside-down! I had to pay my contractor a bunch of extra labor costs in order to get them installed correctly, for which Huntwood refused to reimburse me. Nobody knows what's going on there. Replacement parts also arrived damaged and the wrong size. I had to have 2 field service days to get everything right, and there are still problems that I just don't want to deal with them about. They seem to care more about their bottom line than manufacturing a good product. Once they have your money, you're screwed.

Sale Rep/ Design consultant first made it to the initial appointment an hour late without any contact. We had to call the store to track him down. He finally showed up and promised to get quote back within the next couple days. Three weeks later after several empty promises of delivery of a quote via email and phone call (i followed up with him), nothing came through. I then tried to get a hold of the store manager in Kent to see if he could get involve to expedite my quote but no luck either. The manager apologized and said the rep was new but will get this to me within a day or two. Yet, it's now been another two weeks and we still didn't hear from them. This is unacceptable but we were glad we didn't get a quote from them. Else, we might commit business with unreliable company with our two kitchens. This is just review for the experience we dealt with the staff in Kent showroom, not the products.

I visited two other showrooms the same day I went to Huntwood and went through the same process with them. The other places had bids back to me within a week, and I still haven't heard back from Huntwood.

Bottom Line Up-Front: Love the looks and quality; but, poor service/follow-through. I might use them again; however, would have to carefully weigh the cabinets' pluses against the service minuses. I would look long and hard for another source before going back to them. The looks and quality of the cabinets are excellent; unfortunately, follow-through was lacking. I was looking for a special look and sturdy cabinets; and found what I wanted at Huntwood. I was also able to get "up-grade" to plywood boxes at no additional cost. Several cabinets had "organizing inserts" that Huntwood installed, without any issues. However, I also had a special cabinet design, which they totally got wrong on the first try. The cabinet sent didn't not match the specifications provided (doors/drawer front didn't align to match adjoining cabinets) and they didn't get a special hinge right, so one door didn't open as designed. Extensive emails and phone calls followed; and finally I personally had to draw the cabinet specifications and email it to them. Finally, four weeks later, I got the correct cabinet. In addition, all the cabinets were shipped with the wrong drawer glides. Again, numberous calls and emails, and finally Huntwood sent some; but only half the number needed. Another 10 days, and calls and emails, before we finally got the rest. But, the glides were sent without the necessary attachment mechanisms. Again, more calls and emails, and another 10 days, before we got some, but, again, only half the number needed. I had had enough, and ordered the remaining myself from a supplier, and got them in two days. Huntwood said the would reimburse me the cost of the mechanisms I ordered myself; however, I never received the payment.

The first shipment came and was unloaded into our garage. The finish was poorly done on all of this shipment and we refused acceptance. The second shipment came about a month later. The finish was much improved and was acceptable, however there were mistakes in the specific cabinet sizes ordered. Again these specific cabinets were reordered. The third shipment arrived ok with the exception of frieght damage which agaiin was reordered. This final shipment arrived ok. This entire process took four and one half months. Our contractor had to leave our job and return to complete. Obviously we do not recommend this supplier. As far as do's and dont's I would suggest using a cabinet suppliers standard colors and not a custom finish. Be very specific on sizes, orientation for hinging and fillers when ordering and double check the written order before it is processed.

On the morning of the job the carpenter arrived but the materials were not on site. After checking with the office he informed us that a mix-up had occured in that they were expecting us to pick-up the materials. We informed him that we were not notified of this, so he left and returned in about 2 hours with everything and went to work. As the installation progressed he had us check a couple of times to ensure we were happy with the finish and wood grain, before he progressed the the next step. We are extremely happy with the quality of the workmanship, and the professionalism of the carpenter. Our new surround looks great! Having never contracted for this type of work prior, I am not sure if the price was competitive, however, this was only business we contacted who assured us they would meet our timeline. We were required to pay the full price up-front, which seemed a little odd. I think half up front and half upon completion would have been less of a concern.

I am a GC (38 Years) I've used Huntwood Cabinets off and on for years with no problems thru an outside, very experienced sale person. I had a customer ask me to remodel their kitchen. To get ideas I told them to go by Huntwoods showroom as well as others to get ideas. They informed me later that they ordered cabinets from Huntwood. After looking at their cabinet order, the dimensions of the appliances they were planing to use were not going to work with the cabinets ordered. Why didn't the salesman catch this!!! I called the sales person and he told me that the order could not be changed?!?!?! (3 days after the initial order) NO CUSTOMER SERVICE THERE!!! I had to go to Mr. Huntwood and he reduced the bill several hundred $ but!!!. The salesman was/is very inexperience in designing/placement of cabinets. My customers, I feel, were over charged and were sold hundreds of dollars of materials they did not need. Then to really get me upset -- when I went to pick up the cabinets (after putting $4k++ down and having the rest of the $ in my pocket) Huntwood told me I had to pay the remaining balance 5 days BEFORE I could pick up the cabinets. After raising some stink I did get the cabinets that day.

Everything worked out well and it was a very positive experience. They had competitive prices as well. Everything was made to measurement and not lifted off the floor.

Order was late first, due to Huntwood moving and delays in getting their machinery up and running, then because they sent some cabinets not to stated size and not correct configuration of interior of cabinet. As our cabinets were one of the first orders, after getting their new facility up the face of cabinet quality is not what I expected. We had to have several doors replaced. They seemed to try to meet up at least halfway. Each order delivery was late and with no call to notify of the delay, on the scheduled day of delivery.
