Contractor took a 25% deposit, did poor work and then quit after priming sheet rock. Contract was for priming rock, and trim and painting. He did poor work until held to the standards of his own contract by sheet rock contractor. Then complained and blamed me. Ultimately he quit by sending a letter did not refund any of the deposit and was a pain to work with.
Description of Work: Sullivan Painting Service began work on painting the entire interior of my home. They botched the priming had to redo their work and then quit without warning. Too much drama too little quality.

Response from SULLIVAN PAINTING SVC
A letter of termination of contract was provided and mailed a full 30 days in advance of scheduled painting. A summary of expenses was provided upon request, reflecting that the job costs to-date had exceeded the 25% down payment received, and yet we would not be billing for addtional costs. In summary, we provided a proposal based on the information received from (Removed Member Name), for the interior painting of his house, owner supplied material, this proposal went to contract. From the very beginning (prior to the start of work) (Removed Member Name) attempted to change and modify the contract verbiage and requested additional changes to the contract including not providing the requested down payment. We refused to work without the down payment. After receiving the down payment the painters started work the next day. Painters worked on a Saturday 9/6/14, returned the following Tues. 9/9/14 finishing up and re-priming repaired drywall areas, and again on 9/19 to re-prime drywall re-pairs. Our scope of work was to install 1 coat of primer; we installed 2 coats as (Removed Member Name) was upset because he could see the transition between the GWB paper and the mud. (Removed Member Name) successfully manipulated the job to having the painters upgrade the walls from an industry term of level 4 to a level 5, at the painter’s expense, because his drywall sub did not provide the level 5 putty coat per industry standards. Painters installed 2 coats of primer to meet (Removed Member Name) satisfaction, without having to pay for it. Painter further re-primed after 2 sessions of drywall repair that was outside of the agreement. I have also attached a couple of articles addressing the level 4 and level 5 issues for your reference discussing the subject. During the next period of time, (Removed Member Name) refused to take his supplied paint to the store to have it checked out by the supplier as it was 3 years old, kept in some form of storage, further refused to provide larger 8 x 10 samples of the paint colors he wanted and the finish schedule indicating where the colors would be placed. From this point (Removed Member Name) again attempted to change the contract and sequencing of the work. We firmly told (Removed Member Name), if he insists on installation of the cabinetry prior to painting we would not be interested in continuing the work. We provided numerous opportunities for (Removed Member Name) to allow the work to continue per our agreement, but (Removed Member Name) refused, (Removed Member Name) wanted things done his way, without consultation from the folks who would be charged with providing a successful outcome. We provided notice of termination 30 days prior to the requested painting date. Job: (Removed Member Name) Interior Prime and Paint Steps Leading Up To Sullivan Painting Service, Inc. Cancelling Contract with (Removed Member Name) Attempts by (Removed Member Name) to have wording of contract changed after its execution. Attempts by (Removed Member Name) to have addendums added to contract for future protection after its execution. Refusal by (Removed Member Name) to provide a floor plan that would show color locations. Refusal by (Removed Member Name) to deliver paint to the paint store so that 8 x 10 draw-down samples can be made. Priming: two additional trips to re-prime drywall repairs, (Removed Member Name) insisted the 2nd coat of primer was needed upstairs to “balance” with first floor. Drywall provided was a level 4 and yet the homeowner wanted a level 5. He didn’t like the transition between board and tape lines. Disagreement on sequencing of work: (Removed Member Name) wanted the walls painted before installation of the mill package. I explained that he was risking wall damage. He then wanted the cabinets installed prior to painting, I explained I was not interested in doing the paint application portion of the job out of sequence if the cabinets get installed before the walls are painted. October 1, 2014 (Removed Member Name) called and said the cabinets and trim were getting installed, all except for the bathroom base, and he would be ready for paint on November 1, 2014. At this point I elected to Cancel the contract and not perform the painting. A cancellation letter was mailed on October 1, 2014 to (Removed Member Name) mailing address. Kevin Sullivan
