Penguin Windows

The salesperson was an absolute liar. Here is my favorite example: To set up some background, he's trying to show a cost comparison between Penguin windows and some other brand. He starts with the assumption that Penguin windows will save $10k over the course of 10 years (that itself is likely a lie, but who knows). He then goes into his spiel: "So, if you pay $40k for Penguin, and over 10 years, you save $10k on your energy bills, then you're really paying only $30k. If you go with the other brand for $20k, then over 10 years you'll be paying $10k more than you would with Penguin, so you're really paying $30k." Clearly, he's double counting the $10k savings, counting it both as a savings in the Penguin windows column, and as an extra cost in the other brand's column. I point this out to him, and he continues to argue it. What the heck? You're trying to pull a trick like this on an engineer and math major? It angered me so much I had to restrain myself from chasing him from the house shouting profanities. It is very obvious that he's practiced this technique, and it's absolutely unbelievable to think that he doesn't know it's a bald-face lie. It was extremely difficult to get him to leave the house. He claimed that he had to call his manager to report in before leaving, and I told him to call his manager outside. He claimed that company policy forbade him from doing so, because the company employed female sales reps and it would be too dangerous for them to report in from outside. I am ashamed to admit that it was not until after he was gone that I realized what nonsense that claim was. I wish I had called the police on him, to get him out of my house.

It went very well. I ordered the windows a couple months ago, they came to measure within a week, then it was waiting for them to be built. The installers were here on time and finished the job on time. The inspector caught some things I missed in my final inspection and brought the crew out the next day to bring the work up to his satisfaction.

My experience with them was very frustrating and they were very difficult to work with. They were very high pressure with the sale and they changed the contract after we had agreed to the terms. In order to get the work finished with the terms in the original contract I threatened to write them up with the Better Business Bureau. It took them two weeks to get back to me. I advise anyone using Penguin Windows to read the contract very carefully and take your time with the sale.
